All right, stop! Searchin' time: MC Hammer launches search engine

File under: “Didn’t see that one coming!” MC Hammer, he of the parachute pants and wiggly run, is trying to shake up the Internet. We’re not talking a viral vid here; Hammer’s launching his very own search engine. According to Mashable, Hammer announced WireDoo, his new “2 Legit 2 Quit” engine, at a web summit in San Francisco this week.

Hammer thinks WireDoo will be a game changer because it focuses on “deep search,” focusing on “relationships beyond just the keywords.” While current search giant Google does factor in keyword relationships, Hammer insists his engine (which is still in pre-beta after a two-year development period) is going to blow it, Bing, and other leading engines out of the water. Hammer didn’t announce a firm launch date at the conference.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Were Hammer’s rap hits and career in the ministry just rehearsals? Is now finally Hammer’s chance to seal his legacy? Will you take WireDoo for a test run? And will you first question be “What can’t I touch?”

CW and 'Hart of Dixie' star Wilson Bethel take on climate change 'head-on... and shirt off'

Climate change is a serious issue. Just ask The CW. The network enlisted Hart of Dixie hunk Wilson Bethel to consider the predictions of “science people” and develop a proactive defense against the global threat. In a pec-tacular video featuring stars from Dixie, 90210, and The Vampire Diaries, Bethel spells out the net’s three-prong strategy, beginning with a vow to “Cut wasteful wardrobe.” “It’s time,” he says, “to Give a Shirt.” See the exercise in totally earnest environmental activism after the jump. Harry Belafonte meditating, not sleeping, during morning interview, says rep

Between penning his memoir My Song, serving as the subject for the documentary Sing Your Song, and speaking out for Occupy Wall Street, sometimes a man just needs to sleep. Harry Belafonte was scheduled to appear via satellite on a Bakersfield, Calif., morning news program Friday, but the 84-year-old “King of Calypso” dozed off before the interview even began. Seeing that Belafonte was out for the count, the anchor explained that he was “taking a little nap.” Update: Belafonte’s rep Ken Sunshine has issued a statement that the singer was meditating and couldn’t hear the anchor’s prompt due to a “technical glitch” with his earpiece. See the full statement after the jump.

Rated Arrrrr! Top 10 most pirated movies of all time

In response to Netflix’s recently released list of the “Top 10 Movie Rentals of All Time,” BitTorrent has release its own — albeit utterly illegal — list of the “Top 10 Most Pirated Movies” of all time. The usual suspects were there, with Avatar (21 million downloads) taking top (dis?)honors, and The Dark Knight tying for second place with Transformers at 19 million downloads apiece. And, yes, of course there’s a Pirates of the Caribbean installment on there. It’s only right.

Still, there is surprisingly little overlap between the lists (only Inception and The Departed). Apparently Netflix users favor Oscar bait while Internet thieves go for tentpole popcorn movies, with the Venn Diagram overlap between those two strangely being Leonardo DiCaprio. So what other movies made the list, and which were the most head scratch-inducing? See the full list after the jump. READ FULL STORY
