PopWatch Planner: Plenty of fireworks with 'Spider-Man' and 'The Walking Dead'

Happy Fourth of July Weekend, Part I. It remains to be seen whether July 4 falling on a Wednesday is the best or worst possible scenario for festivities celebrating our nation’s 236th birthday. But at least we have a returning hero who wears the red, white, and (black and) blue on his sleeve. Spider-Man swings back into action after disappearing for… well, only five years. Andrew Garfield might be a Brit, but he was born in Los Angeles, so his Spidey is more All-American that the current Batman and upcoming Superman. U – S – A! U – S – A!!

Vanity Fair's 2012 Hollywood cover revealed: Katniss and Lisbeth go glam as issue draws criticism

Katniss’ prep team is going to have a lot to live up to after this. The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, embodying an old-school Hollywood look, is just one of the 11 actresses to go very va-va-voom for Vanity Fair (alliteration is fun!) and its 2012 Hollywood issue. Also gracing the cover alongside Lawrence is Albert Nobbs actress Mia Wasikowska making her second appearance, the ubiquitous and unreasonably beautiful Best Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Chastain, and Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara, who undergoes quite the transformation from the sexy-grungy Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to a nearly unrecognizable hybrid of Isabella Rossellini and Judy Davis’ character in The Break-Up.

PopWatch Confessional: Do you read the book before you see the movie? Or after?

Dragon-Tattoo

I must admit, PopWatchers, I broke one of the cardinal sins of the great moviegoing experiences. (And no, I don’t mean passing up on getting Sno Caps at the concession stand, because I definitely did that.) Nay, I saw the movie before reading the book. In fact, I intentionally skipped out on reading said book (for the record, it’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) as I wanted to go into the movie without having unreasonably high expectations that could be shattered. (Case in point: I’m going into Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close with the knowledge that I’ll be let down in one way or another thanks to my admiration of Jonathan Safran Foer’s near-perfect 2005 novel. You’d think I’d have learned my lesson with The Lovely Bones debacle of 2009.) READ FULL STORY »

Ugh, hair. Sometimes you have luscious, deep-conditioned, well-highlighted tresses like Sarah Braverman and the male and female stars of Twilight, and sometimes you look like Bradley Cooper at the beginning of Limitless. We all have our bad days, but sometimes actors must endure entire bad hair seasons. It’s hard out there for a star! Below, our scraggly shortlists for 2011′s Worst Movie and TV Hair. PopWatch Planner is here to help guide you through the holidays with nine can’t-miss entertainment events.

Watch Rooney Mara's visit to 'The Late Show with David Letterman' -- VIDEO

The girl with the busy schedule.

Before heading over to the Ziegfeld Theater for the premiere of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, star Rooney Mara stopped right around the block at The Late Show With David Letterman to talk about, among other things, her football background (Fun faux fact: For two years she was a wide receiver for the Broncos. Take that, Tebow!) and the arduous audition and filming process once again. Check out Letterman’s (who seemed pretty psyched about the film, wouldn’t you say?) full interview with the Golden Globe-nominated actress below, including the anecdote at the 9:40 mark in which Rooney describes what happened to a drunk wedding guest who asked her to dance while she was still trying to shake off playing Lisbeth Salander. Let’s just say, it doesn’t end in a fox-trot for the poor guy.

'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' premiere: red-carpet photos!

While ticket-buying audiences still have to wait until Dec. 20 to see The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in theaters, those who were at last night’s premiere of the film at New York City’s legendary Ziegfeld Theatre got to watch the highly anticipated adaptation. (But, hey, look on the bright side, anxious PopWatchers, you’ll still get to see it one day earlier than you’d originally planned.)

Amongst those in attendance were director David Fincher, as well as many of the film’s stars including Daniel Craig, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, Stellan Skarsgard, Yorick van Wageningen, and, of course, Rooney Mara (mere hours before the announcement of her first Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Lisbeth Salander) looking sleek and sexy in a black and lace peek-a-boo dress. Check out the red-carpet photos below, featuring other Dragon Tattoo premiere guests including Viola Davis, Michael Michele, Taraji P. Henson, Anthony Edwards, and supportive sister Kate Mara.

Emma Roberts is 'The Girl With the Tramp Stamp Tattoo' (and Joe Manganiello is hot in a cardigan)

Whether or not you’re a fan of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, anyone who’s seen the American film’s trailer will appreciate FunnyOrDie’s spoof, The Girl With the Tramp Stamp Tattoo, starring Emma Roberts as a trashy party-girl investigator and True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello as someone clothed. This make anyone else want to see an Emma Roberts comedy? She’s good! READ FULL STORY »
