'New Girl' star Jake Johnson takes the EW Pop Culture Personality Test -- VIDEO

ew-personality-test-jake-johnson.jpg

Tonight’s New Girl finale sees a definitive conclusion to the will-they-won’t-they saga between Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson). “They come to a point where they’re at a crossroads together,” Johnson recently told EW, “and they address it and do something about it.” After last week’s episode, when Jess’s opinionated father (Rob Reiner) returned and put a wrench in the almost-couple’s relationship, there are a lot of questions to answer: “Yes, they’ve got a thing together; yeah, they like each other a lot, and there’s chemistry,” says Johnson, “but is that enough to try dating? Or are they not ready and not the right match?” He teases, “It all comes together at the wedding.”

Before that, though, Johnson sat down to take EW’s Pop Culture Personality Test. Between talking Michael Jackson jackets and Spike TV’s Bar Rescue, he shared a traumatic childhood memory involving an Oliver Stone film. Click through to find out which film scarred him for life, then scroll down to find out how Johnson’s research for the finale led him to compare a chart-topping boy band to prison inmates.

Simon Cowell's 'You Generation' launches today -- VIDEO

Good news for the world’s six remaining undiscovered singers: Simon Cowell’s new Internet talent search, “The You Generation,” officially begins this afternoon. As the X Factor head honcho’s company, Syco Entertainment, first explained last month, the contest will be conducted via YouTube and welcomes all sorts of “unconventional and original talents” — including photography, cooking, visual art, makeup application, and magic as well as music.

One Direction — a band formed on Cowell’s original, British X Factor — will kick things off with a live stream interview at 3 p.m. ET. After that, fans are welcome to upload their own auditions to TYG’s YouTube page. The competition includes 26 distinct categories. Winners of each individual contest will be announced every two weeks; those victors will go on to compete for a grand prize, to be awarded one year from TYG’s launch.

Cowell himself explains the impetus for his newest venture in the video below, which also introduces the contest’s cheery host, Will Best. (Somewhere, Steve Jones weeps.) “Years ago you’d have these awful showcase. You’d have to trek across London, all the record companies would be there, the acts were normally terrible. The system’s changed now,” Cowell says, speaking from an office apparently outfitted with padded walls. “[YouTube] has literally changed the music business for the good.”

One Direction's Harry Styles tattoos large butterfly across his chest. That's what makes him beautiful. -- PHOTO

Say this for Harry Styles: He’s certainly living like he’s young.

The lead singer of One Direction and recent Taylor Swift ex got “One Thing” tattooed across his chest a few weeks back: A giant butterfly. But Styles isn’t in the business of snapping shirtless selfies — the tattoo artist, Liam Sparkes, posted the picture to his Flickr account (now deleted), which is why millions of One Directions fans are now freaking out on Twitter. This is not how they pictured their future husband’s torso on the white sands of some private island.

EW reached out to a rep for Styles, who confirmed that the picture is of Styles and that the butterfly is his new tattoo. Styles, who already has a bunch of other tattoos all over his body (U.K. tabloid The Daily Mail has a full breakdown), may have gotten the tat to mark his 19th birthday, which was Feb. 1.

So many questions: What’s he trying to tell us? Did he lose a bet to Liam? Will this be documented in 1D3D? How does Justin Bieber feel about another teen superstar getting involved in the tat game? Most importantly: Will Swift’s new single be Trapped Like A Butterfly?

'Downton Abbey' does One Direction in a cracking good mashup

You’re insecure? The residents and servants of Downton Abbey don’t know what for — you’re turning heads when you walk through their (elaborately designed) do-o-or!

Need even more reassurance? Just watch mashup artist Richard Sandling’s awesome new video, which features Matthew, Mary, Bates, Anna, and even the Dowager Countess herself “singing” One Direction’s romantic/insidious hit “What Makes You Beautiful.” Though some of the clips repeat after the first chorus, you’ll want to watch all the way to the end anyway — especially to see how Sandling handles the “na-na-na-na” part.

Boy banders be brawlin': The Wanted and One Direction get into Twitter fight

It’s the Sharks vs. the Jets, with a 2012 twist.

Members of the British boy bands The Wanted and One Direction got into it this past week. But instead of Jeté-ing across recording studios, the members went the much more efficient but boring route of Living Like They Were Young by engaging in a ridiculous celebrity Twitter feud.

It all started when One Direction’s Zayn Malik tweeted at The Wanted’s Max George. George had written, “Psy and me getting messy #geekandproud,”which “forced” Malik to write, “The first step is totally acceptance. #geekoftheweek. You display just how much of a wannabe you are. : )” READ FULL STORY »

He knows what makes you beautiful — but he won’t tell you via social media.

That’s right: Zayn Malik of One Direction has deleted his Twitter account.

Malik joins an illustrious club that includes Miley Cyrus (who returned to follow Charlie Sheen and tweet photos of her new ‘do), Amanda Bynes (who returned to ask Barack Obama for help), Alec Baldwin (a two-time quitter), and John Mayer (who has, somehow, stayed off the site for real). The X Factor‘s Demi Lovato and Glee‘s Kevin McHale co-hosted. Flo Rida, Justin Bieber, and Carly Rae Jepsen performed, and — get this — No Doubt sang live. Hey, it is the ’90s!

The full list of TCA winners is on page 3 of this post; my own personal winners of Fox’s two-hour telecast are below. By all means, list your own in the comments.
