Taylor Lautner Bicep Watch: The inaugural post

As long as behind-the-scenes footage of The Twilight Saga: New Moon keeps surfacing that reveals little more than Taylor Lautner's biceps, we thought we might as well make a separate PopWatch category for it. Ergo, the Taylor Lautner Bicep Watch. We launch with the video below. Taylor Lautner's biceps make their appearance at 2:10. (Robert Pattinson appears at 2:53, for eight seconds. Wah waaaaaah.)

'Twilight': Why are Bella and Edward really attracted to one another?

Kristen-stewart_l Michael Sheen, who plays Aro in the The Twilight Saga: New Moon, has said how seriously Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson take their roles in the franchise, and after reading this Metro World News interview with Stewart, I'm starting to believe him.

• Explaining Bella's role in the second film, she says, "She loses the man she's in love with, but she also loses her entire life plan, and she's so young to have to be forced into a decision like that. It's just a glorified, elaborate version of the worst breakup you've ever been through. All of a sudden you question everything. All of a sudden you know nothing and you're dropped in the middle of a freezing cold ocean.Oddly, we have a character that's warm enough and bright enough to bring her out of that, and it's truly gut-ripping. Because as perfect as Jacob is for her, she holds on to an ideal, the ultimate fiery love that she has for Edward even though it's not comfortable, it's not practical and it's not a good idea. So it's really a very strong thing to do. It takes someone who really trusts themselves."

• Asked if Bella is introverted or just seeking an ideal, she says, "It's not that she's incredibly introverted. She's just yet to have found a connection that is truthful. She's a seeker of the truth. She's not one to get wrapped up in something that is a fantasy. She doesn't set herself up for disappointment. So that's what makes the story with her and Edward so compelling, in that this is a girl that normally wouldn't do something this crazy."

All this talk about Edward being "an ideal" and a "connection that is truthful" made me think back to a conversation I had with a friend who didn't understand why Bella and Edward were actually drawn to one another — besides the fact that he's hellahot and her blood is like his own personal heroin. Is it more romantic if a love is somehow destined — like in a scent or an imprint — or if the connection is actually explained? Do you feel like it's explained in Twilight? Is it as basic as a lion wanting to take care of a lamb, and the lamb wanting to feel protected? (Probably not, right, since Bella isn't actually safe with Edward?) Maybe Bella is the only teen in Forks who ever wanted to listen to Edward's Debussy CD?

Enter the Fray: 'New Moon,' Eminem-Bruno, and the end of 'Idolatry'

Eminem-bruno-lautner-twilight_l This week in a nutshell: Sacha Baron Cohen shoved his (new) moon in Eminem's face, and the fallout kept people talking all week. When you think about it, that statement really does look like it belongs in The Onion. But this is the pop-culture world we live in. And it's awesome. Elsewhere, the trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon dropped, and legions of you were quite vocal in ranking your favorite Pixar movies. Here's the Top 10 most-commented-on items from this week in PopWatch:

10. Every time Sacha Baron Cohen does something — anything, really — we really do have to stop and ask: Has he gone too far? When it involves injuries at a bingo tournament, maybe so.

9. The devastating cliffhanger at the end of Medium's season finale on NBC had Michael Slezak cheering CBS for wisely picking up the underrated show.

8. Josh Wolk's Pop Culture Club is as big a success for PopWatch as Pam, Oscar and Toby's Finer Things Club was on The Office. This week he goes back in time to examine the original Land of the Lost.

7. Marc Bernardin argued semantics over Buffy the Vampire Slayer being placed at No. 2 on the list of 25 Women Who Shook Sci-Fi. Vampires are fantasy, he says. Point taken. But there's no arguing with No. 1: Sigourney Weaver's iconic badass, Ripley, in the Alien franchise.

6. With TV season over, Whitney Pastorek is looking forward to catching up on her reading list this summer.

5. Mandi Bierly saw the trailer for New Moon, and got all hot and bothered by a certain Wolf Pack member's ab-a-liciousness. So much so that she wrote about it twice.

4. Up is out in theaters and it's pretty darn great. Go seeit already! Then you can join your fellow PopWatchers and share your thoughts on where it ranks on the list of best Pixar flicksof all-time. The general consensus so far: Pretty high.

3. Sacha Baron Cohen punk'd Eminem at the MTV Movie Awards. Perhaps youheard about it. The was-he-in-on-it-or-not fallout captivated justabout everyone. Especially our live-bloggers.

2. Jillian may or may not be attracted to jerks, but The Bachelorette host Chris Harrison assures us she is a great judge of character. If you say so, sir!

1. The final two American Idol finalists to visit Idolatry – third-place finisher Danny Gokey and champ Kris Allen — droppedby and chatted up Michael Slezak. Now, let the slow clap begin for Slezak, executive producer Jason Averett and the rest of the Idolatry crew for a fine, fine season in AI commentary.

Taylor Lautner lust: Feeling guiltier than we did over Daniel Radcliffe. But why?

Technically, I'm not lusting after Taylor Lautner, but when I thought about blogging the following bicep-infused video from the set of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and tagging it with our "Sexytimes" category for all of you, I did feel a pang of guilt. He's only 17. But then, didn't we — and by that I mean I — launch our "Inappropriate Crushes" category with a post on Daniel Radcliffe when he was exactly that age? Why is the guilt greater with Lautner? Because he's not British, and the accent seems like it adds a few years? Or maybe it is the same and we're just as gross now as we were then. Discuss.

'New Moon': Michael Sheen's Aro the next Jack Sparrow?

Michael-sheen_l Oh, we know Michael Sheen, who plays Aro, in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, is having a bit of a laugh in his new interview with Empire, which is why this first quote is so great: “It was quite intimidating being on the set with so many young, beautiful people. That was quite extraordinary being the old, ugly one amongst loads of young, beautiful ones. It’s not something I’m used to really. Not because I’m young and beautiful but usually there’s loads of old, ugly people around me. It was quite encouraging to see how Robert and Kristen are committed to it, how much they put into it and how serious they are about it. They don’t take it lightly at all so that was great to see.”

What’s even better, however: reading how seriously Sheen, who’s best known for starring in The Queen opposite Helen Mirren and Frost/Nixon opposite Frank Langella, took his role as the leader of the Volturi. This quote might explain why director Chris Weitz pursued him so aggressively: “It was nice to go in and not be playing the main part, just go in for a few days and play this really really extraordinary character. I remember I was thinking, ‘Oh, there’s a bit of a Child Catcher here [from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang]; bit of the Blue Meanie from Yellow Submarine; bit of Olivier from Richard III. There was a bit of all kinds of stuff.” Not quite as inspired as Johnny Depp’s Keith Richards take on Pirates of the Caribbean‘s Capt. Jack Sparrow, but sounds promising, yes?

'Twilight' fan cruise! With Alice and Emmett?

Twilight-cruise_l How deep is your love for Twilight: Deep enough to go on a week-long Alaskan cruise if the only stars you were promised — so far — are Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) and Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen)? I'm sure the actors are lovely people, who will be in it to win it at the Q&A and autograph sessions and costume ball, but this star power would not be enough to make this the Alaskan cruise I'm going to take someday. Actually, I don't know that even Robert Pattinson sitting on the veranda of my ocean view suite with his guitar in one hand and a mango margarita for me in the other would get me on this ship — unless EW let me expense it. (Damn economy.)

Who or what would it take to get you on board a fan convention? I fear a semi-lame Buffy the Vampire Slayer conference in 2003 has ruined my enthusiasm for the single-subject fan fete for eternity….

'New Moon' trailer debuts: And we remind you Taylor Lautner is only 17

Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart unveiled the first trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday night. Lautner, who plays Jacob, may have lost the award for male breakthrough performance to Pattinson earlier in the evening, but after seeing his ripped upperbody, we’re hoping he can be nominated again next year. What did you think of the sneak peek? Bella’s birthday party was mildly underwhelming. The wolf Jacob turned into was…cuddlier than expected.

'New Moon' trailer: A 14-second tease with a one-second kiss

Because we can’t possibly wait until Sunday night to see the trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon premiere on the MTV Movie Awards, Entertainment Tonight has scored itself a 14-second tease (which I am ashamed to admit I found out about through a Ryan Seacrest Tweet). Check it out below. I’m not sure what there is to say other than that Kristen Stewart does some nice eyebrow acting and, of course, that Bella’s birthday present is worth $20,000.

Robert Pattinson. Shirtless. Filming 'New Moon.' Yes!

Newmoonitaly3_lShirtless shots of Robert Pattinson filming The Twilight Saga: New Moon in Italy have surfaced and to quote a top EW editor who first sent me a link: "Um, wow." If you haven’t read the second book in Stephenie Meyer’s series and intend to, stop reading now and just ogle the picture at left (if you are so inclined). Then click on our set gallery — which NOW features nine photos from Italy, including a couple steamy ones of Pattinson and Kristen Stewart kissing, in which she secures herself a Maxim cover (if she is so inclined) — and repeat.

We’re assuming these new paparazzi pics are from the scene in which Bella rushes to stop Edward — who believes she’s dead — from stepping into the sun and exposing his sparkling body to the masses so that the Volturi will be forced to kill him. The bad news: There’s no way my dream of this being the scene that Pattinson, Stewart, and Taylor Lautner unveil at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards is coming true. (Presumably those dots on Pattinson’s body are for the "diamond" effect that the post-production team will take its sweet time creating. Hint, hint. And UPDATE: We now know it’s the first trailer we’ll be seeing.) The good news: My faith in the wardrobe department, first established in the release of the Wolf Pack photo, remains steadfast. Pattinson’s hair looks under control (and somehow hotter than it did when they were shooting in Vancouver?). And I’m choosing to believe that no makeup artist was used in the development of those abs (but if there was, I do not even care).

'Twilight Saga: New Moon' script found in trash...and returned

Pattinsonnewmoon_lWhat would you have done? Casey Ray, a beauty salon owner, found the scripts for two Robert Pattinson films — The Twilight Saga: New Moon and the romantic drama Memoirs, another Summit Entertainment production expected to film this summer — in a trash bin in St. Louis. (No one’s said how they ended up there. They were found outside a hotel housing actors working on the George Clooney movie Up in the Air. That cast includes Anna Kendrick, who plays Bella’s friend Jessica in the Twilight films, but her rep has insisted that the actress would not be so careless.) Though Ray considered leaking the scripts to the tabloid press, her lawyer tells the Associated Press that she didn’t really want money. So she returned them to the studio and was offered tickets to the movies’ premieres. She’ll also receive the scripts back after the films have hit theaters.

How would you have handled the find? Since I can’t even sit in someone else’s seat at a concert without getting nervous that I’ll be found out, I’m confident that I would have done the right thing as well and returned them — after I read them, of course. And took them to my editor.
