Grammys 2013: Who is opening tonight and other last-minute tidbits about the show

Now that the 55th Annual Grammy Awards are hours instead of days away, here are a few last-minute tidbits and predictions…

* Who will open the show? Taylor Swift will open the show and she’ll be singing “We Are Never Ever Getting Together,” which is nominated for record of the year. There was a lot of debate about the coveted show-opening spot this year. Justin Timberlake, a favorite of Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich, almost usurped the spot in recent weeks, but Swift’s popularity and the less-than-torrid public response to the new Timberlake music tilted the decision back toward the 23-year-old country-pop singer, who was notified about a week ago that she would be the first voice of the night. Justin Bieber hosts tonight's 'Saturday Night Live': Talk about it here!

Neither rain nor sleet nor one of the worst snow storms on record could stop Justin Bieber from making his SNL hosting debut tonight. And that’s a good thing, given the hordes of Bieber Fever-stricken fans who have probably contracted actual fevers after waiting for hours in a freaking blizzard to get standby tickets for his show. I repeat: most of the Beliebers who braved Nemo in nothing but snow-soaked sleeping bags didn’t even get past 30 Rock’s doors.

Given these conditions, we can only hope that Bieber’s double duty performance — he’s also tonight’s musical guest — is worth all that sacrifice. The kid is certainly a charismatic performer; as EW’s Owen Gleiberman wrote in his review of Bieber’s concert movie Never Say Never, he “communicates joy in every move” when he dances and sings like “a happy canary.”

But that charm may not translate to the small screen.  READ FULL STORY

Why Janet Jackson's performance is the best Super Bowl halftime show of the last 10 years

The answer is simple: It was ACTUALLY memorable. Granted, it became a gigantic scandal after Jackson’s bare breast was exposed by co-performer Justin Timberlake, but it also made the halftime show feel like a true event. More often than not, this break in between quarters (Football is quarters right?) feels like something you’d see at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and not something more fitting the audience of gagillion people watching.

Happy birthday, Justin Timberlake! A musical look back -- VIDEO

Put on your suit and tie: It’s Justin Timberlake’s 32nd birthday today, and fans have plenty of reason to celebrate the new year in the life of JT. After over six long years of dealing with Justin The Actor, Justin the Designer and Justin the Saturday Night Live star (ok – that one was pretty nice), Justin’s finally back to putting on the fedora fans like best: Justin the Musician.

Timberlake had a pretty quiet year last year, save for getting married (and selling some truly hilarious wedding pics to People), but it seems that 32 is going to be the public resurgence we’ve been waiting for from America’s favorite former boy bander. With the release of his first new album in nearly seven years – not to mention a just-announced Grammy performance – it looks like 2013 will be the year that Timberlake finally brings sexy music back.

In honor of his return to tunes, check out some iconic musical moments from his past – from Mickey Mouse Club to an honorary member of Lonely Island.

Drink tequila with George Clooney -- and 22 other celebrities in the business of booze

Have you ever wanted to share a bottle of tequila with George Clooney until he got so drunk that he mistakenly thought you were Stacy Keibler? OK, so we can’t really help you out with the second half of that scenario, but the first half is suddenly much more plausible thanks to Clooney’s latest business venture.

The sexier-with-age movie star is teaming up Rande Gerber to create Casamigos, a new brand of tequila. According to Vanity Fair, Gerber and Clooney will sign every bottle that is made, number it and even taste it themselves (aka you’re sharing a drink with George Clooney … get it?). But as delicious and tempting as it all sounds, we always imagined that Clooney was more of a scotch neat kind of guy.

But Clooney isn’t the first celebrity to surprise us with his taste in alcohol, and we’re sure he won’t be the last. Here’s a rundown of some celebrities who have given the business of booze a try. Who matches up best with his or her drink of choice?

Put on your suit and tie, and check out Justin Timberlake's revamped Myspace

timberlake-myspaceHe’s bringing Myspace back. Scratch that: He’s brought Myspace back.

Justin Timberlake’s much-balleyhooed redesign of the once-popular social network finally went live today. If you bite the bullet and make a new account — or manage to remember what your 16-year-old self set as the password on your original account — you’ll be free to click around the site and marvel at its cool use of white space, its nifty horizontal interface (which seems tailor-made for tablet browsing), and the profiles of Timberlake-approved celebrities like Beyoncé and Timbaland. Enjoy an a cappella 'N Sync medley, no strings attached -- VIDEO

Are you familiar with futuristic a cappella quintet Pentatonix? If not, you should be — their unique arrangements and sharp vocal percussion can make any song sound aca-awesome. (For real — check out their take on “Carol of the Bells.”) While they’re skilled enough to perform in a multitude of styles, the Sing-Off winners are especially good when tackling beloved boy-band hits from the ’90s and early ’00s, which come with ready-made multipart harmonies.

Want proof? Check out this medley of classic ‘N Sync tunes, including “Pop,” “Tearin’ Up My Heart,” and “It’s Gonna Be Me.” Blond Scott Hoynig is a dead vocal ringer for JC Chasez; brunet Mitch Grassi’s tenor lends itself beautifully to a Justin Timberlake impression. Really, though, the whole thing is good enough to make you forget the original versions of these songs, at least for three minutes.

Justin Timberlake gives Myspace a fresh start

“Imagine what the room would be like if Andy Warhol, Liz Taylor, and Stanley Kubrick all got together,” Justin Timberlake said yesterday. “What was that conversation like? What type of collaboration did that breed? And how can we make that happen?” The answer, he hopes, is the new Myspace.

Thursday, a small group of journalists were invited to the sleek SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills to preview the beta version of Myspace. Chris and Tim Vanderhook, COO and CEO of Myspace, want to be very clear that the new site is not a relaunch. It’s something new. It’s something that we haven’t seen before. And yes, Justin “Sean Parker” Timberlake is a key figure. READ FULL STORY

'N Sync replaces Justin Timberlake with Matthew Morrison in Halloween photo

Merely 12 days after Justin Timberlake banned his boy band from his wedding, the boys are striking back. While attending Glee star Matthew Morrison’s third annual Halloween bash, Lance Bass and J.C. Chasez posed with a JT-becostumed Mr. Schuester. Seems innocent enough, right? Wrong.

Justin Timberlake apologizes for 'unsavory' wedding video

Justin Timberlake has issued an apology on his website for a video that shows homeless people from Los Angeles congratulating him on his wedding to Jessica Biel. The video, obtained by Gawker, was created by a friend of Timberlake’s, Justin Huchel, and was released on the Internet earlier this week.

“I’d like to start off by saying that I don’t live my life making fun of people (unless, of course, I’m making fun of myself on SNL),” the singer wrote in an open letter. “Especially, those who are less fortunate or those in need. I grew up with a family and community that instilled ideals in me like hard work, honesty and empathy.”

While he calls the recording “silly” and “unsavory,” he says it was “made as a joke and not in any way in mockery” and claims that he “had no knowledge of its existence. I had absolutely ZERO contribution to it.”
