Michael Jackson tops 'Forbes' list of highest-earning dead celebs

Over the past year, Michael Jackson’s ghost earned more money than any other celebrity… living or dead.

Oww! Jamon! Hee-hee!

According to Forbes, Madonna earned $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013 — enough to place her at the top of its most recent list of highest-paid stars. The estate of her old pal MJ, though, raked in $35 million more, for a total of $160 million, making him easily the highest-paid star of 2013. As Forbes puts it: “It’s the third time in the past five years that the top-earning celebrity in the world has come from the graveyard.” How appropriate, just before Halloween!

Michael’s money comes from a variety of sources, including two Cirque du Soleil shows — one that tours, one housed at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Vegas — and his half of the Sony/ATV song catalog, which includes his own hits as well as tunes like “When a Man Loves a Woman.”

Another artist represented in that catalog: Elvis Presley, who ranks second on Forbes‘ list of dead earners with $55 million. The top five is rounded out by Peanuts creator Charles Schulz ($37 million), Jackson pal Elizabeth Taylor ($25 million), and Bob Marley ($18 million).

'Forbes' announces Beyonce and Jay Z as top-earning celebrity couple of 2013

Music and entertainment moguls Jay Z and Beyonce have no need to watch the throne as they top Forbes‘ list of the highest-earning celebrity couples for the second year in a row. The power duo earned an estimated $95 million between the two of them from June 2012 and June 2013. With one album, two world tours, and a plethora of other business including a sports agency, fragrance collection, and clothing line, the couple certainly have kept busy this year to earn almost $100 million. The list, which bases its estimates from talks with managers, producers, and other industry insiders, combines the earnings of each celeb in the couple as determined in ForbesCelebrity 100 list. Sofia Vergara is the top-earning actress on TV, according to 'Forbes'

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is the highest paid actress on television for the second year in a row, according to Forbes. Vergara’s ranking is part of their larger Celebrity 100 list. The data is based on earnings made from sitcom/series work, endorsements, and licensing deals from June 2012 to June 2013. The top five highest earning actresses all hail from comedy, drama, and reality shows. READ FULL STORY

'Forbes' names Madonna the highest paid celebrity of 2013

The Material Girl isn’t going to be short on materials anytime soon.

Madonna has been named the highest paid celebrity of 2013 by Forbes, which reports that the pop star brought in $125 million between June 2012 and June 2013. Not even an album flop can keep this woman down.

Behind Madonna is the king of movies, Steven Spielberg, with $100 million, the king of reality singing competitions, Simon Cowell, with $95 million, and the queen who gave us the red room of pain, E.L. James, also with $95 million. Rounding out the top five is Howard Stern — the king of awkwardness? — with the ever-popular intake of $95 million.

The first athlete joins the list at number 12, with Tiger Woods bringing in $78 million. And believe it or not, Oprah Winfrey sits at number 13 with $77 million. Luckily, that’s still enough money to give away a handful of cars if she feels the need.

Angelina Jolie tops 'Forbes' list of highest-paid actresses

She might not get paid as much as Iron Man, but there’s no doubt that celestial beauty Angelina Jolie is smiling all the way to the bank. This year, Jolie topped Forbes‘ annual list of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood with an incredibly robust $33 million. Though her last big-budget feature was the much maligned The Tourist back in 2010, Jolie has spent the past few years developing, writing and directing flicks such as In the Land of Blood and Honey and the upcoming Unbroken, and even found time to film Disney’s Maleficent. You see, Angelina Jolie is so wealthy that she can basically stop acting, develop some very small indie flicks and still make money. READ FULL STORY

Lady Gaga regains title as 'Forbes' top-earning celeb under 30

Regardless of how beautiful or dirty Lady Gaga is, she is definitely rich. Forbes released the list of “The Top-Earning Celebrities Under 30″ with the pop singer reigning supreme at No. 1. Despite canceling the rest of her Born This Way Ball to undergo hip surgery, the 27-year-old performer earned an estimated $80 million from June 2012 to June 2013.

The list — which does not account for taxes, agent fees, or other related costs — includes mostly female celebrities. Nevertheless, 19-year-old pop star and rabble-rouser Justin Bieber takes second place with an estimated $58 million. Taylor Swift, Calvin Harris, and Rihanna round out the top five, earning an estimated $55 million, $46 million, and $43 million, respectively. Jennifer Lawrence is the top-earning actor/actress under 30, raking in an estimated $26 million.

Last year, Swift was crowned as the top-earner on the list with a massive world tour, continued sales on her album Speak Now, two Grammy wins, and a CoverGirl endorsement deal. This year, Gaga took over with her cut-short (but still high-earning) tour, which grossed $168 million through January 2013. She also topped the list in 2011, having brought in an estimated $90 million. With her new album, ARTPOP, to be released this November, will the Queen Monster keep her throne atop next year’s Forbes list?

Robert Downey Jr. tops Forbes' list of highest-paid actors

It pays to be Iron Man.

Between June 2012 and June 2013, Iron Man 3 and Avengers star Robert Downey Jr. netted an estimated $75 million, nabbing him the No. 1 spot on Forbeslist of Hollywood’s Highest-Paid Actors. Unlike the Celebrity 100 List, this one is all about money, something that Downey knows a lot about recently. The Iron Man trilogy has grossed over $2 billion while The Avengers is now the third-highest grossing film ever.

A decade ago, if you had said that Downey would be King of Hollywood, you probably would have been met with laughter. Even though he appeared in some well-regarded projects — even receiving a Golden Globe for Ally McBeal and an Oscar nod for Chaplin — his drug abuse and erratic behavior was well documented and prevented studios from investing too heavily in his projects. He soon cleaned up, bounced back, and reinvented himself with his career-making turns in Iron Man and Tropic Thunder. READ FULL STORY

Oprah snags top spot on Forbes Celebrity 100

After losing out on the No. 1 spot in 2012, Oprah is once again sitting on top of the Celebrity 100 throne. In my dreams, Oprah is currently lip-synching and dancing along to Yeezy’s “I Am a God” in one of her massive mansions.

In the annual Forbes ranking, pop sensation Lady Gaga came in at No. 2 while direcor Steven Spielberg and singers Beyonce Knowles and Madonna finished in the top five. READ FULL STORY

Sean 'Diddy' Combs tops Forbes' list of wealthiest hip-hop artists

“It’s all about the Benjamins, baby,” Sean “Diddy” Combs proclaimed in 1997 on his debut album, back when he was known as Puff Daddy. He rapped about wanting to be a “shot-caller,” and, well, now he definitely has enough Benjamins to call the shots.

Today Forbes reported who the world’s five wealthiest hip-hop artists are, and Combs topped the list with an estimated net worth of $580 million. The rapper-actor-producer-entrepreneur also was number one on the list last year, when his net worth was a reported $550 million.

Forbes reports that a good chuck of his wealth comes from non-musical ventures, like his deal with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka brand, which supplies the rapper with eight-figure annual payouts.

Oprah ranked most influential celebrity on 'Forbes' list

Oprah took the number one spot on Forbes Magazine’s annual most influential celebrities list. And nearly two years after she ended her talk show, it still seems right — but not just because of the Lance Armstrong effect.

The television mogul narrowly topped the list with a cryptic “48%” influential ranking, with her notable attribute being “compassion.” Spielberg barely missed the mark at 47%. He’s “interesting.” In third place, Martin Scorsese is “dynamic,” and in fourth place, Ron Howard is “down to earth.” Poor George Lucas actually tied with Howard, but was given a 5th place ranking. According to Forbes: “To break ties, we also factored in the likability and awareness metrics.” Sorry, George. Ron Howard does seem like a really nice guy.
