“It’s all about the Benjamins, baby,” Sean “Diddy” Combs proclaimed in 1997 on his debut album, back when he was known as Puff Daddy. He rapped about wanting to be a “shot-caller,” and, well, now he definitely has enough Benjamins to call the shots.

Today Forbes reported who the world’s five wealthiest hip-hop artists are, and Combs topped the list with an estimated net worth of $580 million. The rapper-actor-producer-entrepreneur also was number one on the list last year, when his net worth was a reported $550 million.

Forbes reports that a good chuck of his wealth comes from non-musical ventures, like his deal with Diageo’s Ciroc vodka brand, which supplies the rapper with eight-figure annual payouts.

Oprah took the number one spot on Forbes Magazine’s annual most influential celebrities list. And nearly two years after she ended her talk show, it still seems right — but not just because of the Lance Armstrong effect.

The television mogul narrowly topped the list with a cryptic “48%” influential ranking, with her notable attribute being “compassion.” Spielberg barely missed the mark at 47%. He’s “interesting.” In third place, Martin Scorsese is “dynamic,” and in fourth place, Ron Howard is “down to earth.” Poor George Lucas actually tied with Howard, but was given a 5th place ranking. According to Forbes: “To break ties, we also factored in the likability and awareness metrics.” Sorry, George. Ron Howard does seem like a really nice guy.

I bet Eddie Murphy would like to trade places with another actor right about now.

The Saturday Night Live alum tops Forbes‘ list of the year’s most overpaid actors again, followed by newcomer Katherine Heigl and Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock (say it isn’t so!). Murphy’s earning power has steadily declined since his string of ’80s hits, including Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop. His voice work in Shrek and Mulan and family-friendly roles in Norbit and Dr. Dolittle left him in good standing, but his recent films, Imagine That, A Thousand Words, Meet Dave, and Tower Heist, flopped at the box office. Forbes calculates that for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of $2.30 at the box office.

Elizabeth Taylor beats Michael Jackson for title of highest-earning dead celebrity

Screen goddess Elizabeth Taylor surpassed Michael Jackson this year on Forbes‘ list of the highest-earning dead celebrities. The actress, who suffered heart failure last March, earned a whopping $210 million; $45 more than the highest paid living celeb, Oprah Winfrey.

A chunk of that change — $184 million — came from Taylor’s record-breaking Christie’s auction, which sold off her fine jewelry, costumes, and art work. Her estate also profited from her White Diamonds perfume sales as well as residuals from her films. READ FULL STORY »

Oprah's still the highest-paid woman in entertainment -- but maybe not for long

The sun is hot, water is wet, and Oprah Winfrey earns more each year than any other woman in the entertainment industry — as well as any other celebrity, male or female. Thus it is, and thus it always will be. Right?

Not necessarily, according to Forbes. Though Oprah is still sitting pretty atop the magazine’s list of both the highest-paid celebs and the highest-paid women in entertainment, Forbes warns that Winfrey’s number one spot on the latter could soon be in jeopardy. During the time frame Forbes used to calculate that list, the OWN owner was still earning money from The Oprah Winfrey Show. Now her old series is kaput — and since she has yet to take a salary at OWN, Winfrey’s only sources of revenue now are O, The Oprah Magazine, her satellite radio station, and the TV series made by her production company, Harpo.
