Very funny Joan Rivers makes not-at-all funny comments about Adele, Ann Curry

This is not a hoax: Joan Rivers called Adele “fat,” for the second time, and also said that Ann Curry was, like, really boring as a Today anchor. While saying both of these things to the Huffington Post, she laughed and laughed — which was weird, because what she said wasn’t that funny.

I like Joan Rivers. Joan Rivers has license to say whatever she wants, and we have a cultural and economic ability to pick her up or toss her away with each new comment. But if Rivers keeps wrapping herself in headlines about speaking snark to power — wrong or right, but without a single wink — does she give us all a reason to forget she’s hellaciously funny, too?

For context, here are both comments:

After the Oscars: Stars celebrate at Governors Ball, InStyle party, and more

Once the Oscars had all been handed out, it was time to party in Hollywood. EW made the rounds last night at the Governors Ball and other events around town. Read to find out who was partying into the wee hours!

Immediately following the Oscar ceremony, stars flocked upstairs to the Governors Ball. Catered for the last 19 years by Wolfgang Puck, stars ate delicacies like smoked salmon and caviar on Oscar-shaped crackers, chicken pot pie with black truffles, and chocolate soufflé with espresso ice. Attendees were treated to the sounds of crooner and pianist Michael Feinstein, who played Broadway and movie classics – quite in keeping with the music theme of the ceremony itself.

Around the room, celebs hobnobbed and drank champagne. Les Miserables Best Actor nominee Hugh Jackman and his wife sat near the stage with his family, in from Australia for the occasion. Said Jackman of being on stage earlier in the night: “It was an unbelievably fun experience to perform at the Oscars — and so much more relaxing not to have to host.”

Watch the Oscars musical performances again ... and again, and again -- VIDEO

Even if you didn’t know that music in film was the theme of this year’s Academy Awards, you had to notice the abundance of musical numbers. Nominees (Adele), past winners (Jennifer Hudson, Catherine Zeta-Jones), icons (Barbra Streisand), and even host Seth MacFarlane all took center stage to belt out a classic tune. You can catch them all, plus more, on ABC’s Oscar blog or click through for highlights, like Adele singing ‘Skyfall,’ which took home the Oscar for Best Song last night. READ FULL STORY »

Oscars 2013 backstage: Jennifer Lawrence, Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway, Adele, and more

Jess-Jennifer-Lawrence-Interview

Oscar winners get 45 seconds to gush about their journey to Oscardom and pack in a bunch of thank-yous in their acceptance speech. Most of them aren’t Quentin Tarantino and don’t get to turn the tables, cutting off the orchestra with their speech like the Django Unchained director managed to tonight, but they do have the chance to get in a few extra words backstage. Read on for what the winners at the 85th Academy Awards said in the press room Sunday night – including Ben Affleck on hearing the First Lady announce his win, Jennifer Lawrence on why she felt like Steve Martin on Sunday and a short filmmaker’s response to a surprise celebrity in the room.

Ben Affleck – Best Picture for Argo
On Michelle Obama announcing Argo’s win live from the White House:
“I was sort of hallucinating when that was happening. In the course of hallucination, it doesn’t seem that odd. It’s like, ‘Oh, look, a purple elephant. Oh look, Michelle Obama.’  Honestly, I was just asking these two guys outside, ‘Was that Michelle Obama?’ The whole thing kind of alarmed me at the time, but in retrospect, the fact that it was the First Lady was an enormous honor, and the fact that she surrounded herself by service men and women was special and I thought appropriate.” READ FULL STORY »

Grammys: J. Lo saves Adele from hydrangea huckster with a quick disco jerk of the thumb

Adele-Grammy-Crasher

Crisis averted! As if oozing Angelina Leg in a stunning Hefty Sack wasn’t heroic enough, Jennifer Lopez ended up saving Adele from a sure-to-be-obnoxious encounter with Grammys crasher Vitalii Seduik — the same Ukranian TV personality who tried to make out with Will Smith on the red carpet of Men in Black III‘s Moscow premiere and gifted Madonna those absolutely loathsome hydrangeas! Seduik somehow got onstage as Adele came up to accept the Grammy for Best Solo Pop Performance, but luckily J. Lo was there to throw him a scathing “Set Fire to This Pain in the Ass” glare and then shoo him away with a quick jerk of her thumb. Behold an international hero at work in the short clip below.

With separate categories for drama and comedy or musical, the Golden Globes won’t exactly predict how much Oscar competition Les Miserables‘ Hugh Jackman is for Lincoln‘s Daniel Day-Lewis, but look on the bright side: We have an interesting acceptance speech to look forward to if the Best Director award goes to one of the Oscar-snubbed — Argo‘s Ben Affleck, Zero Dark Thirty‘s Kathryn Bigelow, or Django Unchained‘s Quentin Tarantino. Who will win in the Globes’ 14 movie categories? Let’s take it to a vote below. Remember, this is who you think will win, not necessarily who you think should win.  READ FULL STORY »

Willow Smith covers Adele's 'Skyfall' -- VIDEO

(Children of) stars! They’re just like us. Everybody wants to be Adele.

And lately, being Adele means covering her hit James Bond theme, “Skyfall.” The Girl Who Whipped Her Hair, Willow Smith, tackles the moody tune — even playing piano — and the results, which she uploaded to YouTube, aren’t half-bad.

This isn’t the only Adele/Skyfall news recently. After her theme song sent the world ablaze, it was also used in a new version of the 007 trailer. Skyfall is in theaters in the U.S. Nov. 9.

Check our Smith’s version of the chorus below: READ FULL STORY »

Olympics closing ceremony could feature the Stones, Elton John... and, of course, the Spice Girls

The music director of Sunday’s Olympics closing ceremony tells the London Telegraph that the event “should be the greatest after-party in the world” — and judging from the details that have leaked so far, we tend to agree. Between Adele crooning “Someone Like You,” members of Pink Floyd performing “Wish You Were Here,” and a “galaxy” of other British stars rumored to include the Rolling Stones, Elton John, George Michael, Queen, Ray Davies of the Kinks, the Who, Muse, and, of course, the Spice Girls, all that’s missing is a cameo from some Tupacian Beatles holograms.

The identities of the event’s performers are officially supposed to remain secret until Sunday — but there are plenty of things we do know for sure about the Ceremony. READ FULL STORY »

Taylor Swift tops Forbes' 'Highest-Paid Celebs Under 30' list

Want to feel like an underachiever?

Forbes magazine has released its annual list of the richest entertainers under 30. And it’s no surprise that Taylor Swift wins something yet again, raking in over $57 million from May 2011 to May 2012. The 22-year-old had the Speak Now world tour during that time, which Forbes said brought in a cool $1 million a night.

Last year’s $90 million Monster winner Lady Gaga came in fourth this year, earning $52 million. Forbes attributes the drop to the fact that she didn’t tour during the time frame, and notes that she’s currently selling out shows in Eastern Europe and they expect a jump next year. (Although, $52 million is not exactly a failure.) READ FULL STORY »

Here's that Celine Dion 'Rolling in the Deep' cover you wanted

Covering Adele: Just another reason Celine Dion is amazing.

None other than Céline Dion decided to start “Rolling in the Deep” this past weekend as part of her Las Vegas show, as first reported by Gawker.

I’m shocked this cover took so long to happen. The two women’s vocals are so similar, and many of Adele’s tracks would feel right at home on Let’s Talk About Love or Falling Into You. I especially love the darker tone Dion adds to the chorus.

Just when I thought that after over a year on the charts I’m finally moving on from “Rolling in the Deep,” I’m back in. I’m getting chills. I want to dance. I want to cry. It’s all too much — in the best possible way.

Let your ears rejoice and listen below: READ FULL STORY »
