Kathy Griffin-Anderson Cooper New Year's Eve: Did she just say...?

Jan 1, 2009, 01:57 AM | by Mike Bruno

Categories: Happy Holidays, Television

Who'da thunk staying home watching TV on New Year's Eve would be so moderately entertaining? I watched a bit of the New Year's Rockin' Eve (so is that it? is Dick Clark retiring?), but it was the Anderson Cooper-Kathy Griffin festivities on CNN that kept me up past midnight -- CHICAGO time. For better or worse, they had a refreshing element of complete unpredictablity. Here are the highlights:

  • Kathy Griffin's on-air, "is this mike still on?" response to one of her many Times Square hecklers (NSFW clip below). You just know somewhere an exasperated old man in a suit is shaking his head saying, "I TOLD them she was too smutty..."

  • Kathy queries Anderson, "What are you wearing?" and he pretends he doesn't understand the question even though he fights her off when she tries to remove the tape covering the label on his fitted coat.
  • Anderson admits he can't properly pronounce double Ts, especially embarrassing as he lives in "Manhadden."
  • During his live, upside-down-stripper booty-smacking-performance, Lil Wayne gives a "shout out to Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin" (which Anderson and Kathy abruptly interrupt before he is finished -- seven second delay perhaps?).
  • Anderson throws down a challenge to Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann, saying he could "take" both of them in an arm wrestle.
  • Sean Callebs dislikes New Orleans on New Year's, likes chucking beads at the "belligerent" Bourbon Street masses.
  • Coolio: "I think at the end of the day I'm gonna go down as one of the top 10 performers ever to live. In hip hop." He just freaks me out.

Anyone else catch this? What else was on  last night? And what did Lil Wayne have to say to Anderson and Kathy?

I LOVED the two of them together. It was so funny to see how he would react to her comments. She was clearly trying to shock AC. It's all I could talk about for days to my friends. HILARITY!

To the people letting their young children watch Kathy Griffin in late-night -- SHAME ON YOU!

It's good! rolex watch?
luxury watch?

Myrna Wed, Apr 15, 2009 at 11:57 AM EST

KG is about as disgusting as they get. I'm going to become a Fox Fan!

Jan Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 09:24 AM EST

I watched only a lil' part of that show. As much I love AC, I had to switch the channel. I can't stand KG, she's so obnoxious and not funny at all. AC has way too much class to be in any show with that woman.

New Year's Day morning, I told my husband of 35 years, that altho I was looking forward to a bright 2009, after we enjoyed our dinner and wine New Year's Eve, and he went to bed, Kathy and Anderson displayed some tasteless dialogue in my opinion. We otherwise always enjoy Anderson and thought Kathy was funny a few days later when she revealed her mom's response!

Alice Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 05:41 PM EST

hahha am i reading this right? you people are ridiculous! everyone knows that Anderson Cooper is a known pe-dophile and kudos to you Kathy Griffin for having the courage to stand side by side with that loser - it takes a generous and kind person to overlook such an unfunny and tasteless moron like cooper and hope they pair you off with someone with some class next time - Go Kathy Go!

Kris Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 08:35 PM EST

What's with all these people complaining about their kids being subjected to such filth?
Late night New Years Eve has never been a child oriented event.
A responsible parent would have put those children to bed earlier.
If you don't like it,Turn the channel.

debi Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 05:26 PM EST

just wanted to say that Cooper is probably the hottest man in the world. Kathy was just being the same person she has always been. no excuse for the bad language on a family show. if i had kids watching Kathy's bad language would have upset me a lot. i don't hold anything against Kathy, i enjoy her low life brand of comedy, but there is a time and place for it and it that time and place was not on national tv during a national traditional show.

kramer Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 02:48 AM EST

I watched new year's eve and thought cathy was way, way out (really a low life) Anderson is much better than that...he is always a gentleman and find him a pleasure to listen to and watch.

Nikkie Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 09:15 PM EST

i watched it and it was hillarious. Poor Anderson looked like he was irratated with her ( i know i would have been. We could have did wiht out the dick comment, but it was good to see the fun side of Anderson. I think hes such a cutie pie and frankly they could have had just him there and i would have watched.

Rick Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 01:21 PM EST

Hannah I agree with you!!!

Kathy is not a pretty child, she is tacky, classless and tasteless. I was watching the count down with 3 children ages 6-10 and they looked at me like, huh? She was out of her league and Mr. Cooper comes from refinement and Class. God knows there have been comedians in our USA history who are still legends like, Lucy Ball, Jack Benny, Flip Wilson and more who are legends. And speaking of current comedians like Ellen D and others they are liked by the masses not the asses. I saw her crawling on the floor on Jimmy Kimmel last night, she was exactly where dogs should be, except there was no trash for her to rubble through. Oh, did I say dogs? Even I own and have owned pedigrees dogs and they have a class of there own, too. Not a Heintz 57, like Kathy Grizzly (bear). Anderson could buy her life at a snap of a finger. Mr. Cooper I felt sorry for you and thank you for keeping your composure, true class.

ChicagoLad Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 11:01 AM EST

What and odd, but FUN, couple. Does Kathy go overboard sometimes, SURE. Is she hysterical, SURE...just ask Anderson, he couldn't stop smiling.

And geez folks, if she's not your cup of tea then have the common sense to not watch.

BTW...the ratings were THROUGH THE ROOF!

Roderick/USA Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 01:12 AM EST

Nothing was funny about the trash that came from Ms. Griffin's mouth. It is obvious that some of the generation of today are violent and tacky. Mr. Cooper can cough and the world wouldn't know Kathy Griffin in 10 months. I am the same age as Mr. Cooper and we are Generation- Xer's. I am disappointed at Ms. Griffin because she is a Baby- Boomer and is too old and should know better. The question is, What has and What does she do in her personal life? Ms. Griffin was out of her league and that is why she said what she said. Mr. Cooper didn't call her poor or ugly, but handled himself with Class for not slapping her. It was tasteless!! What people do in their personal life is their business. No one on this blog is saying what they do in their personal lives. A person personal life and professional life are two different things. I wouldn't even put "mine" in Ms. Griffin's mouth because she isn't attractive nor classy, hell she isn't even married nor has off springs.

dont listen to any of these a-holes Kathy theyre all just jealous cause they will never ever have the balls to stand up and say whats on their minds and spend all their pathetic lives trying to be the voice of reason even when its quite clear that no one is asking for it - theyre all just angry lesbians with no wangers and no holes to put them in >:-]

as for the idiot who tried using my name to insult kathy - shut up you moron, you dont know me.

alison tyndall Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 10:37 PM EST

Love the blue blood Anderson mixing it up with trashy Kathy. So so funny and best way to bring in the new year. I heard Kathy getting kissed by Anderson. Such a lucky girl to be kissed by hotty Cooper.

Karen Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 11:18 AM EST

I watched Anderson and kathy New Years Eve while vacationing in my hotel room with my ill 7 year old. The comments made by kathy were so unforgiving, thoughtless, obnoctous, irritating and annoying. Between "pap smear" and commenting that Ryan Seacrest was just shot was so unprofessional. I could have done a better job hiring hosts for New Years. Start the process now and maybe you won't have to go to the bottom of the barrel and hire such horrible talent like Kathy.

P. LittleJohn Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 11:59 PM EST

What can we say....who ever thought putting a first class Anderson Cooper with a .........Kathy Griffin could work in any one's favor. What a lucky women to be in the same company..too bad she wasn't ready...LOVE YA ANDERSON>>>>KEEP ON KEEPIN ON

Kathy Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 06:49 PM EST

I heard the sexual remark and I cannot believe no one is calling them on it.. she isn't even funny with it.

Tim Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 03:31 PM EST

Kathy and Anderson were both fantastic. Terrific programming CNN! Keep it up!! A breath of fresh air on an otherwise stale, Seacrest heavy (gag) New Years Eve.

Anonymous Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 03:23 PM EST

CNN had Kathy Griffin on last year and had to have her on this year again. I don't understand how she can be a comedian by making rude comments and why she has her own show. What is CNN thinking? I was disappointed with CNN and Anderson Cooper. They could have done better with some other guest.

me Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 02:22 PM EST

She is freaking hilarious. I couldn't believe she said that on CNN, but yet, I could... love her, especially when she makes Anderson giggle :)

Z Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 10:58 AM EST

There are plenty of choices on NYE. If you don't like adult humor switch the channel. Kathy is comic Gold but her humor is not for everyone (I LOVE HER). When she gets Anderson Cooper flustered, I about pee my pants. I hope CNN keeps them together every year.

LC Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 09:55 AM EST

Give me the real spontanaity of AC and KG on CNN over the highly scripted and sanitized gunk on those other NYE shows. Those other "live" shows look dead in comparison. I agree with the 300 chickens comments but what those chickens have to say is often hilarious, even if they are occasionally inappropriate and sometimes even boring. A live show is not going to be perfect, technicians will leave mics open, punch the wrong camera button, and hosts won't always say the right or politically correct things. But a live, "dangerously" unscripted show, especially with a firecracker like KG is ALWAYS entertaing. No its not "family friendly", KG never is, but it is fun to watch, and I hope it goes on for years and years!

Fran Sun, Jan 4, 2009 at 05:07 PM EST

p.s. it never cases to amaze me how ppl who do not like someone posts MULTIPLE TIMES expressing it -- who cares? and how can you possibly care that much to waste your time expressing it? we know who you are who do not enjoy KG; you're more than likely the same ppl who would vote yes on Prop 8 -- no one cares what you think! please stop boring ppl with your over-the-top "morality" and holier-than-thou BS

Fran Sun, Jan 4, 2009 at 04:57 PM EST

my ONLY comment was there wasn't ENOUGH Kathy Griffin; CNN advetised the heck out of a "KG/AC" 2-hr show and we got annoying shifts to Las Vegas (3 hrs before ANYTHING was happening), bad connections elsewhere, the guy in New Orleans hated the crowd (who can blame him? that is a scary town, pre or post-Katrina; they need to change that paradigm) and give me a break Ms. Griffin kept herself reined in for 2 hrs and if I recall correctly, her offending remarks were like 2 minutes before they signed off and they weren't even on camera for them -- too funny -- "Hey, I don't come to where you work and knock the d*cks* out of YOUR mouth" .... great idea about HBO grabbing her next year; then she can REALLY be herself which we all enjoy when we see her live -- love Ms. G and Anderson C for enjoying her so much and having her co-host -- CNN has made a big fan of me (and I have seen Ms. G live 10-15 times already and counting)

Jess Sun, Jan 4, 2009 at 01:52 AM EST

Yeah, a woman who visits Iraq War veterans at Walter Reed is just horrible. What a thoughtless person she is! And to defend herself against a drunk heckler? How dare she! It's pretty funny that most of the people mocking Kathy here are using the same rude language and behavior they accuse her of using.

To quote Helen Lovejoy from The Simpsons: "What about the children?! Won't somebody please think of the children!?" LOL everyone. Kathy spoke the truth and the truth can be painful to hear. If you prefer plastic, pre-programmed entertainers then Carson and Seacrest were a click away.

And to the posters bringing Anderson's personal life into the comments here...that is the ultimate in juvenile behavior.

Diane Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 11:37 PM EST

I didn't stay tuned long to CNN when Kathy Griffin started with her nonsense. It seems she spoiled it for many other folks too. I felt sorry for Anderson, he looked embarressed at her crude comments.

freedom19 Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 07:27 PM EST

Unfortunately, I am not surprise by Kathy's behavior. She has no class, she's not funny either. As for Anderson, come out of the closet already.

Maureen Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 07:07 PM EST

The only slut I saw on TV on NYE was Joe Jonas. I clicked away as fast as I could.

JenJ, what are all these shows and networks Kathy has been banned from? The only one I know of is The View, which Baba Wawa cancelled Kathy's appearance on because of her spot-on impersonation in her concert act. Since Kathy's schtick is poking fun at celebrities with an over-inflated view of themselves, that was the kind of endorsement you can't buy. Good thing The View wasn't on when Gilda Radner was alive.

No one has to enjoy her comedy if it's not their thing, but "hated, disgusting creature" is worse than anything I've ever heard out of Kathy's mouth. Someone needs their typing fingers washed out with soap.

Why do folks blame Kathy and not the CNN producer who kept her mike live? The same one who showed all that BillH mentioned. Why aren't you watching broadcast TV where censors will keep you safe and protected?

The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but in ourselves.

Mo Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 06:32 PM EST

The use of double posts is an indication of intellectual limitations.

As is the confusion of verbal reasoning and the use of occasional coarse language to mock hecklers, pompous bloviators, and run-of-the-mill asshats.

red angel Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 05:36 PM EST

Stuck home Kathy made me laugh SO hard. Thanks CNN Anderson and Kathy. If we need anything in the new year it's laughter!

Simon Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 03:40 PM EST

The use of foul language is an indication of intellectual limitations. When a person is unable to articulate his/her position or engage in verbal reasoning, he/she typically launches into a verbal tirade. Of course, the alternative is to keep quiet, but if you are an "anchor" then you have no choice.

Stuart...are you a woman hater? I can't believe you would call her a slut. Men like you scare me. How many hookers have had to put up with you calling them a slut?

Andi Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 02:45 PM EST

For you people who don't like Kathy, why did you watch the show? You knew what she's like...turn the channel. I'm sure Ryan Seacrest put on a nice clean show for your uptight, middle American, wholesome church going selves.

Igorwas Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 12:58 PM EST

Sorry about my last comment. A better example would be how the media often refers to former President Richard Nixon as tricky-dick. This usage of the word seems to be common and excepted. But just think how different it would sound if we used the same words refering to Bill Clinton.

Igorwas Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 12:46 PM EST

English is such a confusing language. You can call Richard Dick for short and not offend anyone, But if you say Richard has a short Dick, Richard may be offended.

chickeee Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 11:35 AM EST

Stevemd Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 11:16 AM EST

where does all this dirty language come from, its not proper on tv -i like anderson he has class, but griffin u do belong w/ the lower class in usa.ur mouth is filthy, not funny but loud.fui.its money hungry ???again ,Ratings, that is what it comes down to,-ashamed.ME

Brent Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 02:25 AM EST

Apparently there are only two of us on earth that heard Kathy's "knock the dick out your mouth" comment. Funniest thing ever said on CNN. I used it twice today at work. Kathy and Anderson were great together last night. I think Seacrest is about as entertaining as Carson Daily. And that's saying zilch...........

Chad Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 12:09 AM EST

Just like her emmy acceptance speech... Kathy Griffin is my god now! Her and Anderson make a great pairing! Kathy is that little, crude gift from heaven that just keeps on giving!

CindyS Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 12:06 AM EST

First, Times Square was empty and the only people left were drunks who were heckling Andersen and Kathy. Not only did she give CNN plenty of time to cut her off, she was yelling at hecklers. She wasn't speaking to Andersen (for those who thought she said it to Andersen). She said 'dicks' and I killed myself laughing.

Let's talk about the other poor broadcasters - the woman on the ground in Time Square who had a drunk come up and do a rude gesture right beside her face while she was on air. The New Orleans guy who was being painfully cursed out by the guy behind him while on air.

I think they all did well for having to be surrounded by ignorant drunks while doing their jobs.

JenJ Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:47 PM EST

How can anyone like Kathy? She is a horrible woman. She has been banned on so many shows and networks, and I am sure CNN will eventually do the same to. The title of her pathetic show, "Life on the D-List" even explains that she is a hated, disgusting creature. No one in Hollywood likes her either. She says terrible lies about everyone, and she is convinced that she is an innocent good person. Yeah right! What a messed up, creepy, psychotic fool! Her hair extensions and fashion are ugly too.

Pam Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:30 PM EST

The contrast and chemistry between the two is fabulous. Anderson is a well respected serious journalist, and Kathy is hilarious and well known for her edgy comedy. I say, turn her loose - let her do her thing. I love hearing Anderson's spontaneous laughter when she catches him off guard. She shocks even him - and he knows something naughty is going to happen when she's on air. CNN knew what they were getting into for their second year of inviting Kathy Griffin to cover New Years Eve with AC. I hope to see them next year as well. His appropriateness, and her outrageous humor make a fun balance for this one night of the year.

Kristoffer Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:54 PM EST

I don't know what it is about Kathy and Anderson together - but I think they are fantastic! I loved them last year and I loved them this year too. So what if she said the 'D word'. If you were offended by that then you should not be watching tv at all because you will see and hear much worse on almost any network during prime time.

Personally as long as these 2 are hosting New Years I will be tuning in to CNN.

Robert Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:49 PM EST

Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper have an amazing chemistry. The show the night before and the actual New Year's show were both absolutely hilarious.

JoshS Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:40 PM EST

LOVED LOVED LOVED Kathy and Anderson. The best thing on TV on NYE. It would be a crime if the two of them did not become regulars on New Years Eve going forward.

To all of you saying she's too trashy and you're shocked at what she said, get a life. That's her routine and she regularly sells out every concert she does. If you don't like her, change the channel and go watch some snoozefest. But leave the great pairing of Kathy and Anderson for those of us with a pulse to watch.

Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 07:39 PM EST

I think there is one person on here who keeps commenting over and over Kathy hate about her being trash... it's not a "unviversal phrase" that every commenter will use one fter another, after another.... get a LIFE!!! She was awesome and you're a loser.

Sara Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 07:37 PM EST

I love Kathy and Anderson!! They push the envelope and it's refreshing and fun to watch. I'm actually really mad I went out, pretended to have a good time when I could have watched them on TV. Next year I know I will be watching CNN that's for sure... she's hilarious.

Kenneth Geer Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 07:26 PM EST

The New Years Eve ball drop was the worst I have ever seen on any network.
The woman name Kathy, keep her mouth running so much and with bad taste, that Anderson couldn't get a word in. This Kathy or who ever/what ever she is, should never be allow be broadcasted over the air till she goes to school for it.
Thank You,

ann Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 07:04 PM EST

Amanda - people like you are the reason that society creates eating problems and poor self esteem. Keep it up!

J Burns Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 06:04 PM EST

My husband and I loved it-we felt like we were at a comedy club-only we didn't have to pay admission and $10 bucks+ for drinks-bring them back next year!

JB Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 04:49 PM EST

"Joseph Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:15 PM EST: GROW UP - it's 1:53 am - and if You're watching TV at that time - you're expecting G rated programming?" Yeah, totally. People all across the U.S. had already been celebrating for almost two... Wait, what? "Time zones?" What the heck are "time zones?"

J.B. Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 04:47 PM EST

e4ia Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 03:44 PM EST

Kathy and "Andy" are a great pair. They bring out the funniest in each other. I also laughed hard at Erica Hill's reaction to the guy who gave her the tongue between the fingers bit. I like my NYE to be a little rowdy. Otherwise, I would watch the Seacrest/Dick Clark snooze-fest.

Amanda Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 03:05 PM EST

Kathy Griffin tries to substitute being crude and edgy for actually being funny. And let's face it - she's has more of a face for radio than for tv (even after all that plastic surgery). I do not understand for the life of me why this woman is famous.

Ms. Reed Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 02:22 PM EST

I hope CNN does not offer Kathy Griffin an opportunity to host next year's New Year's Eve program. If was awful. Anderson Cooper seemed embarrassed at her antics and crude remarks. I expected better from CNN.

Jen Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 02:11 PM EST

I didn't get a chance to watch that, but instead watched ESPN & the stunts that were being done there. I'm suprised no one has mentioned that ESPN let the F bomb drop twice in about 10 minutes, I thought there was a delay on tapings to stop that. It doesn't bother me, I was just kind of suprised. Maybe ESPN has a different standard. Anyone know the answer to taht.

Jenna Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 02:06 PM EST

Kathy Griffin was the only funny thing on that night! Anderson Cooper finally relaxed "a little" and the banter was great. Aren't they on a 5 second delay like last time? I say it's not her fault that the crew was too slow!

JUNE SMITH Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 01:27 PM EST

I LOVE ANDERSON COOPER, BUT WHEN I HEARD THAT KATHY GRIFFIN WAS TO BE HIS CO-HOST I DECIDED TO BY-PASS HIS NEW YEARS EVE SHOW - AS I KNEW HER MOUTH WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP IT CLEAN - MABE I'M THE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN, BUT THINK HE IS ABOVE THOSE TACTICS - HE DOESN'T NEED HER HELP TO PUT ON A GOOD SHOW - OBVIOUSLY HE IS VERY SUCCESSFULL EVERY NITE ON TV -

Chester Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 01:19 PM EST

Kathy Griffin was hilarious. She was the only reason I turned on CNN's NYE celebration. Her jokes were tens times funnier than all the pre-taped and lipsynched acts on other channels. Her d*ck joke was original and hilarious and if anyone knew her act they would have expected it. I hope CNN does not cave to puritanical pressure and invites her back for a third time.

Alan Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:36 PM EST

CNN know what they are getting when they hire Kathy Griffin. That is, they know that they DON'T know what's coming. But clearly Kathy is Anderson's f*g hag and they get along well together. I just find Kathy Griffin a little scary. Not only does she rival Joan Rivers in the facelift and botox department, but she says stuff that's not really funny but that SHE thinks is funny. But overall, I preferred CNN's coverage to Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest.

auramac Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:18 PM EST

I find any criticism of Kathy Griffin baffling. She was the funniest, best thing on TV on this party holiday. What a bunch of haters, bigots, stuffed shirts. She said the D word! Wow! F'in WOW!

Joseph Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:15 PM EST

GROW UP - it's 1:53 am - and if You're watching TV at that time - you're expecting G rated programming? This isn't the 1960's! So she made a good joke - she is a comedian - that's how things kinda go.

At least she added some reality to the proceedings - hope she's back next year!!!!

Josie Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:55 AM EST

I'm sorry, but to all those parents who thought that watching anything with Kathy Griffin with their kids was good idea need to take a long hard look at themselves! She is not family friendly. The second you saw her on screen you should have found something else to watch. Be a parent and stop complaining!

LoveMeSomeAC Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:42 AM EST

This made my night. The two of them together are awesome. I will have to work her supercool insult into my talking points one day. Not sure how. BTW children should not be watching TV at 1 am dummies!!

Patricia L Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:42 AM EST

Kathy Griffin is crude and offensive. Unfortunately, it says a lot about America that they even give this woman time on the air, especially on live television. I guess there will always be brainless idiots who equate raunch and filth with comedy.

bob Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:25 AM EST

thank god for fox.Kelly and Bill did a great and entertaining job while leaving out the vugarity. There is hope for this country.

John Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:15 AM EST

Oh yeah ... she's just loaded with talent ... so much so it just drivels off her tongue.

Mick Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:08 AM EST

Personnaly I can't stand Kathy Griffin. I guess I am one of those that would love for her to get booted for for the network to slap her around a bit for what she said. She's so unclassy.

Chris Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 11:08 AM EST

I also watched this in the Midwest. It was great. I have no idea why people commenting on this blog don't like Kathy. They both did a great job.

Darrell Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:49 AM EST

Kathy and Anderson were quite the nice breath of fresh air on their NYE live broadcast. It was quite fun to watch Kathy try and get Anderson to reveal some of his personal side to the CNN audience. I was laughing the entire time I watched them. Don’t you think it would be a good thing to have Kathy and Anderson to do a once a month review of the news headlines? With Anderson’s amazingly accurate perspective on the news and Kathy’s unprecedented off the cuff, often downright bulls-eye “what we are all thinking” comments, I’m sure it would be one of the best things on CNN.

I don't get what every sees in KG, she is obnoxious at best. She was not in a club she was on International TV. She makes me puke

Ed Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:46 AM EST

Kathy Griffin is no talent trash. She's been no talent trash her whole life and she's got about as much humor value as an open chest wound. People who find her funny or refreshing are bottom feeding morons with very little intrinsic social value of their own. She appeals to deviants and rejects and that's about all.

JGinzo Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:41 AM EST

That's ok so long as it wasn't FOX news that did. CNN has more leeway with stuff like that...

Beth Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:34 AM EST

Trash. No juxtaposition about it. How long did it take you to look up that word?

JJJ Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:33 AM EST

KG is an idiot - CNN putting her on the air is the most assenine thing ever.

Beth Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:29 AM EST

She is a low rent piece of trash. Nothing "fresh" about her.

mkaffeine Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:19 AM EST

Kathy & "Andy" ended up being the only thing we watched on NYE. The lip-synching by one-hit wonders or the shameless plugging by movie "stars" on the other channels were too much to bear. Also, how were we supposed to feel while watching Dick Clark ... ?

Mike Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:17 AM EST

Please you ppl need to turn off the TV

T. Okes Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM EST

When did being "shocking" end up being "funny?" The woman is like the David Blaine of comedy. Maybe next year they can just have a Kathy Griffin hologram being unfunny next to Anderson Cooper.

Lisa Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:57 AM EST

Kathy is so trashy!!! She looks and sounds like a total idiot. CNN made a huge mistake by letting her host. HOW TRASHY - ROCK ON FOX NEWS!!!!

Kathy is trash! Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:55 AM EST

DISGUSTING! To pair someone like Anderson Cooper to someone as trashy as Kathy whats-her-name is as insult to him! He has more class in his little pinkie than she has in her entire body! She is trash! And to know that there are people who think she is 'funny' scares me to death. The decline of our country is alarming. I totally agree with: jxshanno Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 09:31 AM EST

Listening to K. Griffin's voice is like listening to 300 live chickens being submerged slowly into boiling water. What a hideous racket. No wonder AC looked like he had more fun covering Katrina and Kosovo.

brieann Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 09:21 AM EST

I can't believe that CNN hired that piece of trash Kathy Griffin two years in a row. She totally turned me off last year and I didn't watch her this year. Someone needs to set her to the curb.

Angie in OHio Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:54 AM EST

Kathy Griffin is trash.. TRASH TRASH TRASH!!! There is nothing lady-like about her.. she is smutty, crass and act's like a 16 yr old teenage boy. I dont care how much money she has, no one could pay me enough money to make myself out to be such a looser! D List?? I say move on down the alphabet to maybe Y if she's lucky.

jack travis Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:53 AM EST

Kathy and Anderson were the only thing worth watching. And hello ignorant people, she's a COMEDIAN. She's not pretending to be a journalist. The juxtaposition is why it works - loudmouthed say anything Kathy and reserved, starchy (closeted??) AC. Plus, HE thinks she's funny, too. Without their humor, what's the point - annoying Carson Daly vs. more annoying Seacrest and sad, sad, sad Dick Clark? So, take a pill you naysayers; at least this show was different and irreverent. We need more of that. And if you don't like it, turn the damn channel -- or in the words of KG -- just suck it.

william brown Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:45 AM EST

This woman has proven over and over again that she should be blackballed from all TV and live events. She is despicable and thinks because she can say it she should say it. Liberals that says it all.

somesense Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:43 AM EST

I agree with the comment about KG voice being equated to 300 chickens being boiled! Now that is funny!
KG is not funny, she is a poor excuse for "comedy". Please re-evaluate what is funny.

pauliewood Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 08:43 AM EST

Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper were terrific and refreshingly funny. Hope this is a yearly tradition. I stayed in to watch!

Suarez Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 08:35 AM EST

Jack Cafferty is the most challenging situation Wolf Blitzer has ever faced in The Situation Room - lol!

AndyM Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 08:13 AM EST

I'm not in the least a prude, but Kathy Griffin wasn't funny. It all seemed like such a stretch for both of them. They both seemed out of their element.

T Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 06:46 AM EST

OH MY GOODNESS.........That was the funniest moment of 2008!!!

Tim Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 06:29 AM EST

"I don't come to your job and knock the dicks out of your mouth."

That's freaking hilarious. One of those things you wish you'd said after the fact...not sure why they took so long to cut away. You can totally understand her thinking that she wasn't on air. Funny stuff.

Jess Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 01:47 AM EST

I thought Kathy and Anderson were great. They were fun and refreshing and honest. All the other shows felt stale and filled with fake smiles. KG and AC were given many ridiculous situations to handle on live tv from Coolio to Lil Wayne's strippers to hecklers to the drunk guy from overseas reporting and singing.

I pray they come back next year. And to all the people upset over what Kathy said...those guys had it coming. Plus it was really late in the broadcast...almost at the one am point. Why would you have yuor daughter up that late?

Usually it's watch the ball drop, clap and off to bed. The only reason I stayed up was because I wanted to see what would happen next. And Kathy donates her time to help the soldiers fighting overseas. That's more than her haters have done I bet...

joe Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:31 AM EST

kathy griffin is an idiotic moronic foolish buttmunch a$$hole, who I wish would stop breathing our air!!! Anyone who likes her can join her!!! Idiots!!!

junior Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:22 AM EST

I had to comment to say that I love Kathy! That comment was HILARIOUS! She is great, and obviously her career is really hurting from all these people who say she's vulgar and has no class. Haven't you all figured out that that's what we like about her?! And if you seriously let your child stay up until past midnight, watching Kathy Griffin, then you deserve what you got. Stupids.

marcia Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 12:01 AM EST

I'm sick of Kathy Griffin's mouth and
her football player neck.
She's the cheesiest!
