My Morning Jacket and Radiohead...two brilliant bands. Congrats to both. Radiohead should be amazing playing 15 Step w/ the marching band!

Kayla Mon, Jan 26, 2009 at 07:51 AM EST

I really think Jesse McCartney & Ryan Tedder should get recognition for Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love"
Speaking of them, where's Jesse
nominated at??
I heard he was nominated & i
don't see his name anywhere.
wtf??

Zach Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 03:59 PM EST

Metallica had better win best new rock album. No one else deserves it.

P-Easy, K-Shizzeh (PenaltyKillah) Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 04:29 PM EST

Reply to the very comment below this one:
Yes, and that's why Britney's been shut out of the VOCAL categories for some time. Even if she had a shot or two for Circus in the 2010 Grammys, it would only be for Best Dance Recording (for singles/tracks) or Best Dance Album.

Come to think of it, the music industry has a hard time adapting the new auto-tune craze in pop music. That might explain artists like T-Pain or Akon being snubbed for the vocal R&B categories too. Ha!

timothym Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM EST

Britney can't sing worth crap and she isn't a very good lip syncher either.Without the studio engineers she would be nowhere!!!

adam Wed, Dec 10, 2008 at 01:18 AM EST

britney got snubbed.
britneys songs were hotter than rihannans and rihanna got a couple of nominations.

mike Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 12:32 AM EST

I always thought the line " The Day The Music Died" was in reference to that tradgic plane crash which killed some of Rocks greats for the day, I was wrong....

It actually is about the day the Jewish accountants and crooks took over the music business.

lil Wayne, whats that...some pubescent little surburban white girls fantasy, or is it the boy's...

Carey, how long does she get to play a teenager..Beyonce, I would love to see her butt nekkid in a live sex show, she'd be hot....with something in her mouth to stop her from singing..

Cyndi, the greatest from the old skool, a skool that was closed done due to too much talent.

Chance Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:10 AM EST

I would have also loved to see Nominations for Portishead's Third. It's a very solid album.

Chance Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 11:34 PM EST

Pretty good noms for the Grammy's.

I LIKE:
Radiohead, Coldplay, NeYo, MIA noms = !!!

I HATE:
Mariah released the wrong singles, got caught up with her surprise marriage and the Grammy's overlooked the best and most consistent album of her career. It was one of the best pop albums this year.

I'm bummed that TV on the Radio don't get a nomination.

Beyonce shouldn't get a nom for Me Myself and I, come on, why are we give noms for live versions of previously released songs, when there are so many artist releasing new material that could be honored during this event.

Lil Wayne Mania - someone ask the Grammy voters to actually listen to the rap material and give the best rap album to "The Cool"

ia Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 03:10 PM EST

Well...well...well...Adele a multi-nominated
Grammy artist. Fantastic!!!!! And kudos to Robt. Plant & Allison Krause, The Eagles and J-Hud....all are deserving of their Grammy nominations. But where was David Cook in The Best New Artist category? Did he not make the cut-off? And Coldplay's multiple Grammy nominations...uh-uh...they are too U2-ish if you ask me and there's only one U2 namely U2. Chris Martin...Bono
rules, not you!!!

timothym Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 09:55 AM EST

Thrilled for Jennifer Hudson's nominations and Lee Ann Womack's Last Call getting recognized, but her album should have been and Sugarland's.Way to go Rufus!!!

ElectAPromQueen (it didn't happen) Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 06:23 AM EST

Oh, and Adele's chasing pavement is good, her alnbum 19 was a stellar debut.

ElectAPromQueen (it didn't happen) Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 06:22 AM EST

happy for m.i.a. and that is all.

chris Sat, Dec 6, 2008 at 12:03 AM EST

M.I.A.!!! REVOLUTIONARY. It's a shame they didn't recognize that back in 2007, when Kala was eligible... or 2005, when Arular was eligible... or 2004, when Piracy Funds Terrorism was eligible. As usual, the grammys a little late, but at least they got something right...

Santogold, MGMT, and Vampire Weekend were snubbed.

Really grammys... the Jonas Brothers??? Honestly??? Not only are they god awful, but this is their third album... and they've been popular for more than this year... It's like when they nominated Fountains of Wayne as best new artist even though they had been around for almost a decade... its sad. But still... M.I.A.!!!!!!!!! AMAZING

jimmy Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 08:52 PM EST

Where is Britney?

Mark Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 08:47 PM EST

Duffy and Pink suck. How do they have nominations? Death Cab should've had a whole host of nods, especially for album of the year. Glad for Sam Sparro for his nod, but no Vampire Weekend? The Grammys never fail to disappoint.

Distubred!!! Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 08:09 PM EST

Helll ya!!!!!!!these guys totally deserve this!

Blue Ball Sam Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 06:52 PM EST

Jonas Brothers.... uggggghhh i am not going to even bother looking at the rest of the categories. Let me guess Hanah Montona is on here somewhere? Man i miss the 90s when rock and metal ruled the scene. I garantee that this year will have the smallest audience. ou can count me out.

the moral majority Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

the Jonas Brothers are the most excrutiatingly painful band alive...whyyyyyyyyyyyy, oh, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
the record industry has sunk to a new low...

Bic_kid3 Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

I think David Archuleta should at least been nominated for best new artist, he kinda one of the best male vocalist in the industry

sammy seal Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

so glad to see ROBYN get a nomination for best electronic/dance album. it should win. and manilow got a nomination. way to go old man.

caroline Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

I can't believe that Jesse McCartney was overlooked for best songwriter...and Leonna Lewis as well...This is just ridiculous and shows how the grammys really work...politics,politics...

steph Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

Yay for: Kings of Leon (even though this is the most mainstream album they've done-maybe that's why the recognition this year, but i still prefer aha shake...), Death Cab for Cutie, Raconteurs (I prefer the first album, but love all they do), and Beck (a shear genius). Boo for the lack of recognition for the following: MGMT!!!!-THE BEST new artists of the year for sure. Vampire Weekend-the second best new artists this year & if you could have seen the never-ending line to get into the concert space in central park for their concert in june you would not have beleived how popular, and deservedly so, these guys are. The Last Shadow Puppets - GREAT music, maybe they'll get some accolades in their native UK. Ryan Adams - maybe his album was after the cut-off date this year, but how has he not been recognized by the Grammys?! And finally, The Black Keys! LOVE them & they put on a killer, no fuss show. In light of these horrible omissions, congrats to the nominees for their hard work.

MariahSnub Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 01:28 PM EST

Mariah didn't get nominated because she didn't release the good singles on E=MC2.
She should have released Migrate, Love Story, and For The Record instead of Bye Bye, Loving You Long Time, and Stay In Love. Period.
Although Touch My Body was overlooked.

Carlos Mireles Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

OMG! I barely can believe about this year' nominations, smth very wrong is happening here (grammys are falling apart!)
1. Leona Lewis deserved to be nominated as best new artist, i mean, she had one of the most played songs of the year, she was nominated for ROTY but not for BNA? that's strange! instead the Jonas Brothers were nominated, wow! that's insane! Katy Perry and Estelle deserved this nomination as well...
2. Mariah, Mariah, where's Mariah? she released one of her best albums so far and what she got? NOTHING! The album is awesome, almost perfect! I still can't believe she's not nominated at all! That's why the grammys are not the same anymore...
3. Where is Taylor swift??? she's very talented and I don't see her in that list! Again smth is wrong here...
4. Alicia Keys is one of those very talented artists that always got at least 1 nomination, but this year? nothing! why?
5. Me, Myself and I nominated? come on! I mean, Beyoncé is extremely talented, but is fair? NO!

Marcelo Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 06:49 AM EST

Whoo careessss
it is better have no nomination than been nominated and not getting NOTHING
Like happened to Mariah in 1996 (6 nominations Vs 0 Grammys)

gnarly Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 05:31 AM EST

i think this awards show is becoming increasingly irrelevant in an effort to avert polarizing the viewers/listeners...who in turn, don't care and don't turn in.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Dillinger Escape Plan's "Ire Works" is one of the most frightening and innovative albums of all time. It will blow your mindzzzz.

Also, how TV on the Radio's "Dear Science" didnt get the best alt. rock album is beyond me.

Amy H Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 05:15 AM EST

I think it's a shock and its rediculous that BRITNEY didn't get nominated because by far am HER RIHANNA AND CHRIS BROWN were the best artists dis year amd dey deffintely deserve the most nominations...and MADONNA deserves some aswell...

Todd Reynard Fri, Dec 5, 2008 at 12:02 AM EST

The Grammy are just a big popularity contest; which is exactly why Bruce, a legend, didn't get a nomination....but the Jo Bros DID

DIO Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

Lil Wayne will proly win every category he's nominated in. specially the best album of the year. after this grammys he will be referred as the best rapper alive of all times.

hitman68 Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 08:29 PM EST

The grammys may have got it right with the AOTY nominees.

Check the reviews on metacritic, all of the nominees had fairly good reviews, but of the five nominees two stand out as the most critically aclaimed: Radiohead and Plant & Kraus.
These two albums had the best review scores for 2007 and 2008 amongst mainstream albums.

Of those two only Radiohead had a number one CD, even after offering it for pay what you want.

I am a Coldplay fan but I think that Viva la Vida is only their third best album after their first two albums.
Remember, this is a band that has always been thought of as "Radiohead light", self proclaimed at times.

Having a critically aclaimed album that also sold very well should make it the album of the year. Only one of the five achieves that criteria:
Radiohead - In Rainbows.

Annie Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 08:10 PM EST

Wayne Brady, for the love of God, deserves the Grammy. He's just that musically talented. And bravo to Coldplay, it's been a great year for them. Great, great album.

Everyone else, eh it's a good list.

Felipe Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

And is anyone else besides me so over John Mayer?

Felipe Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 07:50 PM EST

I love Estelle the mostest but I'm pretty sure this is her second album release. So why all the fuss about best new artist snub? Go jazmine Sullivan!

blondiesez Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 07:47 PM EST

For the love of all that's holy, how the FREAK did the JONAS BROS get a New Artist nod over Leona Lewis? Maybe they're hoping they'll win and get the New Artist jinks??????

And SERIOUSLY -- Paul McCartney covering a Beatles tune (you remember them, a poppy little quartet from fourty years ago that he was PART OF!), and it gets a Best Solo ROCK Vocal Performance nom? I want whatever the Grammy voters are smoking!!

Katia Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 05:41 PM EST

Happy to see Coldplay get so many nominations. Their album is near perfect. I would have liked to see Pink get more nominations.

Erin Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 05:31 PM EST

I am so desperately sad that it took 4 albums for anyone to notice Kings of Leon. And by the time they did, they had become washed up wanna-be arena rockers. *sigh* Do yourselves all a favor and go listen to "Youth & Young Manhood" and "Aha Shake Heartbreak" right now.

ryan h. Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

i notice that beyonce was nominated for female R&B vocal performance for her song me, myself, and i...i love Beyonce and all, but that song was on her first album, why in the world is it nominated for a Grammy

paige Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

haha Mariah

Maria Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

As a country fan, it is really nice to see George Strait nominated. But, Jonas Brothers!?!? Are yo freaking serious!!!!???? Now I know why I stopeed watching the Grammy's years ago.

onino Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

What a Disapointment. i am very bumbepa nd ashamed at the academy for snubbing Leona and Estelle and miss Perry for best new artist. i think the academy didnt waNT an all female line up in the bna category and they definetly felt overcome by the brits this year which is why they didnt want 4 talented and beutiful British female artists in that major category, they dont want to recognize the fact that music in the states has hit an all time low and that now these days the british are commin Leona, ting tings, estelle, duffy, coldplay and many other british acts have dominated this year, but oh well typical rigged grammys, good luck to leona coldplay gaga duffy and madonna.

LUPE FIASCO was robbed for ALBUM OF THE YEAR... period...

Death Cab and Alicia Keys should of had more noms too..

ugh

bruno Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

what's with all the brits??? i mean really. don't they have their own long boring telecast?

Caligula Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

Jonas Brothers !!!! WTF !!! whats next Hannah Montana and the geeks from HS Musical!? The record industry is not bombing because of d loads its because all the music sucks. The only nominees worth talking about are Radiohead, Metallica and Judas Priest!

KC Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:17 PM EST

Mainly, I'm happiest for Radiohead. I hope they win a bunch of Grammys for In Rainbows--my favorite album of the past year. It's also great to see Jazmine Sullivan with so many nods, including for Best New Artist...but that Best Female R&B song category is LOADED.

Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

Vampire weekend was ROBBED. Best new artist category can suck it, they got it all wrong

paige Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

Madonna's Hard Candy was not an Electronica / Dance Album therefore it was not going to be nominated- I wouldve liked to have seen it get a nomination for Best Pop Album but I knew that wasnt gonna happen. The Grammy's are waiting for her to put out Ray of Light 2. I know she isnt gonna win for Best Pop Collaboration but I hope she wins for Dance Recording

carlos Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

Cyndi LAuper YIPPEEE
when I found out she was nominated all I did was cry. What avoice this girl has amazing
Bring ya to the Brink is such an incredible cd. I hope she gets it. Long awaited, If you dont have it he cd go get it

I still can't believe "Hard Candy" didn't get a nomination for Dance Album of the Year... let alone Britney in any of the dance categories for some of her songs on Blackout - but that was an oversight of Jive not submitting her material for consideration in those categories.
As for Mariah and Alicia getting overlooked for their albums... I'm not too surprised. Both of them fell flat in my book, with just a few standout songs each. And I agree that Leona did deserve a nod for Best New Artist, but Katy Perry? Ugh.

I've known the Grammys are getting to be more about sales rather than the music every year but the many nominations for Ne-Yo and Lil Wayne prove it.

Jordan Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:19 PM EST

Biggest total snubs: Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson (they both made 2 solid R&B/pop albums and got the shaft)and "Love on the Inside" by Sugarland, which should have at least received a best country album nod.

Biggest other snubs: Alica Keys's "As I Am" didn't get an R&B album nod, Madonna's "Hard Candy" didn't get a best pop or at least dance album nod, Usher got one measely nod for "Here I Stand," a track off the album of the same name, and Ne-Yo stole the spot Mary J. should have occupied for Album of the Year. Her "Growing Pains" may be the most solid album I heard all year, definitely deserves more love.

dave Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:15 PM EST

I'm not exactly a Britney Spears fan, but i am surprised that she did not get even one nomination for her "Blackout" album, which was some of her best reviewed work to date. Yea, she probably shouldn't win anything, but just an acknowledgment that it was good pop music. I mean, come on, Katy Perry gets nominated and not Britney? Katy Perry's music sounds like garbage. Also, where's the love for John Legend? Looks like only 1 nomination for him. His album deserves more.

Sabster Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:15 PM EST

Happy That:
Radiohead is up for Album of the Year, and House of Cards is up for other nominations
Paper Planes is up for Record of the Year
And I'm not gonna lie, I smiled when I saw Jason Mraz's name for "I'm Yours."

Not Happy About:
No MGMT or Vampire Weekend or Katy Perry for Best New Artist. Most royally screwed up category (even Leona Lewis deserved it more).
The fact that Coldplay is probably going to win everything (Viva La Vida is decent, but I rather Radiohead win).
The fact that Paper Planes was only nominated for Record of the Year. Come on now.

I just hope they get good performances, too. Radiohead, please?

paige Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

oh dustin, i couldnt agree more :-)

Jordan Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 03:12 PM EST

The Grammy year ran from Oct. 1, 2007 to Sept. 30, 2008. So any recording that is released between that time qualifies. That is how an album released 4th quarter last yr. can be nominated, and if "Me Myself and I" popped up on an album released during that time in a different version than the original (in this case live vs. studio), it can get nominated.

I agree with the Beyonce nomination. People, it's called Best Female R&B VOCAL performance. If Beyonce performed it live on a recording during the eligibilty period and just KILLED it vocally, she deserves a nod. Definitely moreso than Rihanna's nasally "Take A Bow" would, and it actually came out for the first time this yr. That may be a Female R&B Vocal Performance, but in no way is it a BEST one. Beyonce's however, could be classified as such.

Dustin Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

it can be said that all is well in the universe following the SNUB of E=MC2 and Mariah and the 3 MADONNA related nods. Madonna will add to her collection of awards that have surpassed Ms. Carey for a while now.

dma69 Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

JONAS BROTHERS as best new artist??? Are you kidding me? Estelle or Santogold or Katy Perry were much more deserving. I'm thrilled that Adele and Duffy got some nods.

paige Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 02:48 PM EST

IT'S ALWAYS A WONDERFUL DAY WHEN MARIAH CAREY GETS SNUBBED BY THE GRAMMY'S!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Kevin Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 02:46 PM EST

Jonas Brothers? Really? Ugh.

Yay for Jordin, JHud, and Carrie though :) And no Taylor Swift? :(

Robert Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

What a joke! Beyonce for "Me,Myself, and I," are you serious. No love for Mariah Carey and "Touch My Body," one of the biggest songs of the year. Neyo for best Album, OMG i do not understand why people even like him. Jazmine Sullivan for best new artist, wtf. Her album totally sucks. Estelle although nominated in the Best Record category could not score Best New Artist and the F****** Jonas Brothers, fo real!

Sean Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

The nominations boggle my mind every year. Half the categories are surprisingly dead-on, mostly the pop and female categories. Half the categories are shockingly out-there. Mostly, the male and country ones this year. The academy reaches into live cds (some released only in dvd packages), eps, bonus tracks, low profile project album cuts from legends (Neil Young). While I agree with and was pleasantly surprised by some nominations (Adele, Cyndi Lauper and M.I.A), I was equally flabbergasted by other nods (Me Myself and I , The Jonas Brothers and Harder Faster...) or omissions (Dolly Parton, Kenny Chesney, Donna Summer, MGMT, Yael Naim and Ting Tings). Maybe one year they'll get it right but,in the meantime, I'll just be grateful that it wasn't worse.

lola1 Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:48 PM EST

Where is Estelle for Best New Artist? I cannot believe that they nominated Adele for Best New Artist, and they nominated that horrible song "Chasing Pavements". No Estelle in any major category, that is a huge oversight....what a joke.

And Leona Lewis can sing, but her music is BORING!!!! She is BORING, bland, and insipid...snooze fest when she performs!

Jade UK Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:41 PM EST

Good to see so many nominations for British Artists: Coldplay, Adele, Duffy, Estelle, Leona Lewis and Sir Paul. Go Brits.

Adam Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:36 PM EST

M.I.A Paper Planes would be the record of they year. The song sure hell rocks!!!

Carrie Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:35 PM EST

What about MARIAH?! Not one single nomination?? You've gotta be kidding me! The freaking Jonas Brothers get nominated for Best New Artist, and Mariah Carey doesn't even get one nomination for "E=MC2"?!?! Something is seriously wrong there.

Craig Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

YEAH!!!! Cyndi Lauper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She better win! What an amazing album!! And Kathy Griffin better win also!!!

yeah that's right Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

RADIOHEAD FTW

Lord Falcon Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

Wow they actually nominated Judas Pries, i don't know weather to be thankful or puke. Considering todays music is in the toilet. Judas Priest Nostradamus is actually the only album that I bought this year. Is in my opinion the album of the year but now no one gives a sh!t about metal. because it is not the trend. The metal Gods are metal gods for a reason, if they dont win it just proves commercial enterprise takes over, let guess Metallica.....(rolls eyes) will win.

Nancy Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:39 PM EST

Noms for Rufus Wainwright and Leann Rimes make me happy. I'm disappointed Pink didn't get more noms. Don't get me started on the Jonas Brothers' nom - wth?! Overall disappointing noms, but I'll watch the show. The Grammys usually puts on a good show - live music from bands I most likely can't afford to see, and interesting performance match-ups.

Sadie Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:38 PM EST

Wow! Completely shocked that Lady A got some great nominations -- I thought the Grammys were always a year or two behind in finding "new" talent (apparently the rest of you agree). What a great year they've had!

One Category Not Listed... Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:29 PM EST

Is the Comedy Album and Kathy Griffin was nominated! MUAHAHAHAHA. If anyone watches her show, they will understand.

Here's why 'Me, Myself & I' was nominated Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

I looked on the Grammy's website, because like many others I swore this had to be a typo, but I guess B released a "Live" album w/ this on it. Yes, I'm serious.

Bobchokesondick Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:20 PM EST

You people are a bunch of twats

GinaBallerina Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:14 PM EST

The Grammys haven't been credible since after 1996 when Mariah Carey was SNUBBED - she didn't even win Record/Song of the year for "One Sweet Day" with Boyz ll Men, which STILL (I believe) holds the Billboard record for longest time spent at #1. This is one ridiculous list. I will not be watching.

shakespeare Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:11 PM EST

This show has hit a new low! Just because lil'wayne sales two million albums does not make him the next eminem, he aint that good. Album of the year come on, Kid Rocks album was better than Tha Carter 3! I am somone who will be not be watching, Gram-Gram have proved without a doubt they are about what sales not what is in good taste! CatPower's JukeBox was a better album than Waynes!

Dennis N. Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:08 PM EST

So happy for Adele, Mraz, and Ne-Yo. I'm glad Robyn's in a category, but Electronic/Dance? Sketchy. Justice needs to be in some noms as well. I used to think of "noms" as an abbreviation for nomination, now all I think of is lolspeak.
So I guess Harder Better Faster Stronger's being taken from Alive 2007? Because if not, we're talking about something that came out in 2001.
I would like some clarification on Me, Myself, and I as well. How can it be eligible?

Jaygee Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 12:07 PM EST

>Yawn<

jason Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:59 AM EST

4 noms for jennifer hudson. YAY!! i hope she wins r&b album. i am VERY surprised no leona lewis for best new artist. i'm actually kind of impressed with some of the nominees in record and song of the year. also, my girl duffy is nominated a few times. i can understand a lot of them, but the lil wayne love still boggles my mind. nas BETTER win rap album. and no "as i am" for alicia keys in r&b or album of the year?? it didn't make the cut-off for last year, but it would have been eligible for an album award this year. and finally, FINALLY some grammy love for jason mraz. ok, we've got months to debate this, so i'll eave it at that...for now.

Rakeem Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:58 AM EST

Beyonce's "Me, Myself, and I" is nominated for a performance on her live cd which came out last year...therefore it's eligible (though still weird). How the hell is "Year of the Gentleman" ALbum of the Year material? Ne-Yo is an okay singer, a horribly boring performer, and his best work is usually for other artists! Whatever. And once again Mariah gets next to no Grammy love...what gives? This is one of the worst Grammy rosters I've seen in a while.

R Rothchild Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:48 AM EST

Beyonce should be nominated in the "best stripper posing as a musical artist category"....along with Pink.

courtney Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:45 AM EST

First of all, Alicia Keys As I Am was not a very good album. People bought it just because it was her. The Diary of Alicia Keys was a GREAT album. On As I Am, she sounded like she could not sing on some of the songs. She just came out a little to ghetto this time around. Second, Beyonce being nominated for Me, Myself and I has got to be a typo error. This doesn't sound right. Mariah should have been nominated. Lil Wayne is a joke. You can not understand anything that he says. He is one of the worse rappers ever!!!!

Tim Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

MIA 'Paper Planes' nomination is COOL AS HELL!!!! It'll never win and I still won't sit through a night of horribly dull, boring, safe performances.

Ryan Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:34 AM EST

UHMMMMMM....

ALICIA KEYS???!!!!!!

Totally Robbed.

Madge Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:33 AM EST

So unless you're an over-hyped no-talent rapper (Lil Wayne) or Beyonce or Coldplay, you aren't going to get a nom. If you reward Beyonce for a 5yr old song, you should also be handing out awards to other more deserving Divas, like Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Mariah, etc. Also, I'd say Michelle Williams deserves a Nom for her last effort... which is a far better album than Beyonces latest ego trip.

andrew Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:32 AM EST

how the f*ck can cold play be named for best rock album they arent even close to the gener

Flabbergasted Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:31 AM EST

James Taylor? _Covers_? Say it ain't so, Grandmo, er, Grammo. He slaughters those songs; he goes flat on "Wichita Lineman" and never gets the groove back. Clearly, anyone who forwarded the croacker's name for any award at this level's got wooden ear-to-early syndrome and needs to take up residence in a senior citizen's home. Where are the Canadians? OMGASBAGS. I'll just turn up missing when it comes to watching this kind of tedia and triviosity, urgh! Pass the brainwash, I'm still trying to get bad taste outta my cells!
p.s. Where's Puddle of Mudd, Nickelback, Trent Reznor, Sarah Slean?

I'm Confused Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:29 AM EST

Uhmmmm... why are the Grammys so repetitive? How is it that Lil Wayne has acquired all these noms and people like Duffy, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Madonna, Britney Spears (pop song?), Brandy, and Alicia Keys have close to none?
There were a lot of great names, songs, and albums missing from this list and a heavy reliance on crappy rap music within the nominations.

Yippee Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

Lady Gaga should win for Best Dance Record for Just Dance. Hello. lol.
and no MC, touch my body should have been nominated. I hate Alicia Keys but her album As I Am should have been nominated for something.

Martha Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

Well, given it's the Grammys and thus completely out of touch, this isn't a bad list. But no John Legend for Best R&B or Best Male R&B Performance? C'mon. The guy can sing circles around most of the nominees. That's a travesty.

Luisa Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

Coldplay deserves every last one of those awards. They've made the best album of the year with Viva La Vida. They've totally shaken up their sound while still managing to be Coldplay of yore. I'm also really glad Adele got recognition. 19 is fantastic.

Luisa Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

Jimmy Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

Mariah Carey was snubbed. With all the other garbage that was nominated, I don't understand how one of the best sung, written, and produced R&B/Pop albums from the year could receive NO nominations. She'll bounce back - she always does.

Amanda Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:17 AM EST

I'm actually kind of excited now I love Adele, Sara Bareilles, Sam Sparro,Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Jason Mraz, Ne-yo, and Josh Groban

hc Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:11 AM EST

ok the only saving grace to that horrid grammy lineup is finally some recognition for Kings of Leon. Is that lineup based on sales and popularity? Hardly any of those artists are worthy of awards!!

R Rothchild Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:11 AM EST

While these awards are utterly meaningless, I may watch just to root AGAINST Beyonce...because that song "Single Ladies" is the worst piece of crap I've ever heard. Seriously I want to vomit every time I hear that song and it baffles me how anyone in their right mind can enjoy her stupid lyrics. Will someone please stop paying for her studio recording time. She's horrible.

Kari Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM EST

Beyonce for "Me,Myself, & I"? Please tell me that's a typo. WTF.

Steph Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM EST

For the Grammys, which are about record sales and radio play, primarily, it makes erfect sense that the Jonas Brothers would be nominated. The buying power of 14 year old girls is pretty impressive- shoot back to 2006 where the top selling album of the year was the High School Musical soundtrack...so maybe ease up on the Jonas Brothers..

Kevin Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

WOW! Beyonce's Me, Myself, and I is nominated for Female Vocal Performance- r&b - THE SONG WAS RELEASED IN 2003!!!!!!!! Good to know your song can be nominated 5yrs after it's release as a single. This is exactly why the Grammy's are a joke now!

Randi Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

Grammys are gettting worse and worse every year. Or maybe it's just the music, or just me...I don't even know who 1/4 of the noms are!!! Sad but true, LOL! I did notice though that Katy Perry was nominated, but I like H&C better than I Kissed a Girl

bre Thu, Dec 4, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

i luvvvv yo song cu it make me fill gud so keep saing ya diggg
