Why 'The Ex List' was doomed

Oct 28, 2008, 12:26 PM | by Gary Susman

Categories: TV Ratings

Exlist_l I'm sorry to learn that CBS has yanked The Ex List (pictured) from its schedule after just four airings, since I like star Elizabeth Reaser and since the show was, according to EW critic Gillian Flynn's review, worthy of a B+ grade. Of course, I have to go by Gillian's review because I never got around to watching the show, and apparently, neither did too many other people. You'd think there would be an audience for a romantic dramedy like this, but you'd be wrong, and CBS should have known that, given the sad history of similar programs.

TV critics, advertisers, and network executives will all tell you that TV is a female-friendly medium (especially when compared to, say, mainstream Hollywood movies). It presents women with images of themselves that are, collectively at least, more well-rounded, diverse, and fully developed than the arm-candy female characters on the big screen, which is why Holly Hunter, Kyra Sedgwick, and Glenn Close are all small-screen stars now. And yet these hour-long dramedies with romance-themed plots haven't drawn an audience since Ally McBeal; The Ex List follows such shows as Men in Trees and Miss Match to the TV scrap heap. It can't help that all three of these programs aired on Friday nights, when young women craving romance are more likely to be out on the town than staying home to watch TV.

Aside from a better timeslot, then, what will it take for TV to create a smart, female-friendly, romance-driven series that lasts? Any suggestions, PopWatchers?

I loved the Ex-list. I am not a TV person and honestly was never home on Friday night, but I never failed to catch the episode on the web later on in the week. I loved that it was nothing like everything else out there. I agree that it should be brought back, but at a different time.

Michelle Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 09:09 PM EST

I just found out they canceled the show.. 1st moonlight got canceled and now this.. It is pointless to even start watching new shows because as soon as you and get into them they cancel them... i missed the last episode due to a dvr malfunction did they even have a series finale? I am beginning to like old show re-runs atleast you can depend on them.

liliy m Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at 04:24 AM EST

and seriously not racist or anything like that coz im black myself but where are the black people there...ok i get the 'indian' guy and the 'irish" guy too but no brathas or sistas there to spick up the show..or mexcians!!

liliy m Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at 04:16 AM EST

joy Tue, Dec 23, 2008 at 09:23 AM EST

I cant believe the would take the ex list off, but seinfeld is so stuped and they kept it on for ever, and the office is not that far from seinfeld, so I say they should put the ex list back on so we have something to watch....................

Hayley Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 09:48 PM EST

i can't believe that they cancelled the ex list, i like the show since i first watched it and now they cancel it before it can make a fanbase!!!! its stuypid and that should bring it back!!!

Nicole Tue, Dec 16, 2008 at 07:35 AM EST

devistated to find out my most FAVOURITE show was not on last night... i believe it is the time slot... it starts so late at night!!! needs to start 30 - 60 mins earlier and i believe it will do good, also mon - wed nights are good. please come back!!!!!!!!

Christine Mon, Dec 15, 2008 at 01:38 PM EST

I loved this show and oddly so did my boyfriend. We tivoed it. The reason it failed was surely the time slot. The demographic is out on Friday nights. I hope they bring it back on a weeknight.

krista Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 03:51 PM EST

i think this show would have done much better if it hadn't been competing with historical election coverage.

try again NBC, i LOVED this show!!

I Loved this show!! Please bring it back!!

aj Sun, Dec 7, 2008 at 02:57 AM EST

Finally a cute show and you let it go. We will be seeing more of Elizabeth and that girl who played the friend; she was awesome for physical comedy. It was going to end with her getting back together with the dog's daddy! It needed a better time slot, but I tivo'd it every week.

ccross Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:45 PM EST

When first hearing the premise for this one I wondered how many exes one person is believably able to have without making them an unsympathetic character--I mean, say the show lasted five years, twenty-six eps a season, I mean, do the math. But since Swingtown and Moonlight got cancelled, and CBS baffled me by pulling Mentalist and Eleventh Hour off their online menu, haven't tuned in to the station and try anything else.

Danielle Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 01:35 PM EST

I absolutely LOVED this show, and had it set on my DVR, I couldn't figure out why I was missing it, and now I know. BRING IT BACK PLEASE. I really want to know the "end". :)

sara Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 11:39 PM EST

I loved this show! Please bring it back!

mechelle Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 09:36 PM EST

CAN CBS PLEASE BRING BACK MOONLIGHT NOW!!! THEY SHOULD HAVE NEVER CANCELLED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

joy Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 04:44 PM EST

CBS please put the ex list back on PLEASE....................

jj Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 04:41 PM EST

I think they should put it back on because it was something worth watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Natalie Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

I really liked the show...I thought it was funny and actually was good for females now adays. If you think about it alot of women go out and try to find Mr. right in one night stands and old flames. Its really too bad they yanked the show.

michelle Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 11:41 AM EST

I Loved the EX LIST I thought maybe they switched night This does suck the big one !! I like Men in Trees also ......

Kelly Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

You knw Moonlight was a drama love story for women I loved it and now that the movie Twilight is coming out I think CBS might regret letting that one go. I mean I loved it and alot of people did to I think that CBS has let alot of shows go that they should have let stay. Joan of Arcadia was great for teenagers and Moonlight was awesome show I don't care for vampires but I love that Nick lol. I hope CBS finds something better to put on than reruns ya knw that is just getting old and no reality either there is enough of that on tv. and between Big Brother and Survior I think that is plenty reality we need something to make us laugh and drama and love the ExList was just all of that.

Mia Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

Im very disappointed about the cancellation. Elizabeth Reaser is fantastic in anything she is in.

Belle Poppenberger Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 10:08 AM EST

Please bring this show back, I was DVR'ing it and couldn't believe it was cancelled!!!!

Lisa Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 02:27 PM EST

This show was just heating up! Your right, it deserves a chance of more than just four shows!!! BRING IT BACK and give it atleast 3 months to succeeed or fail!

Amanda Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

Why did you take this show off the air. I loved it and so did all my friends you guys didn't even give it a chance. It was a great story line and so funny. Bring it BACK!

Will Sat, Nov 15, 2008 at 03:53 AM EST

i'm a straight guy, I watched the show. online only though. i liked it. the plot was repetitive, but i'm sure they would've started to change it around more.

Sarah Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 02:16 PM EST

Clearly the Ex-List had a tiny following, since a rerun of NCIS not only blew ex-list's rating out of the water, but was the top show of the night. Why would CBS pay to produce this show when they could more tha double their ratings by putting on an episode of an already existing show that aired last year? It's common sense. If a year old rerun gets better ratings than a new show in the exact same time slot, the show isn't worth it.

Amanda Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 12:11 PM EST

The Ex-List was cancelled because it was terrible. A new guy every week? And she just *happens* to run into an old boyfriend everytime she breaks it off with the last old boyfriend? And it seems like they all went from bum to superstar since dating her. It makes her look like a complete slut, honestly. How many guys has she dated to be able to run into a different ex every couple of days? It wasn't a "smart" show, it was stupid and it doesn't make women look good - it makes them look like skanks. You should probably actually watch the show before you praise it. I happened to catach it because it was on before NUMB3RS, as did many of my (also female) friends and we all thought it was beyond horrible.

Jericho was a smart show. So was Moonlight. This was stupid and didn't do well because guys find thissort of show stupid to begin with and any woman with even a morsal of self respect found it insulting.

Susan Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 01:56 PM EST

Jericho, Moonlight and now the Ex List! Sorry, Ex List fans that I didn't start watching your show but CBS is off my planet since they screwed Jericho in the first season with a LONG HIATUS and then cancelled Moonlight...I am back to watching cable networks where show have a better chance of renewal because most folks have sworn off the big 3 Networks anyway...Boo to CBS AGAIN!

Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:19 PM EST

Now i did not see the show.. but for people who watched this show could watch the starter wife on usa... Debra Messing and Judy Davis are fantastic!!

Miro Sun, Nov 9, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

I watched it Once! and got hooked set the TV to Series Record! Who knew that i was watching the last show LOL! I have rewatched that recording 3X's. It is very clever. Love Tha Gays!

Bethany Sun, Nov 9, 2008 at 12:42 AM EST

Definitely did not watch this show because I'm one of many who are hoping for Moonlight to reappear on CBS. I was so disappointed that it got taken off, but now will hope for a comeback since the Ex-List has been cancelled! :)

Brigette Sat, Nov 8, 2008 at 05:46 PM EST

Please bring it back. I dont like any other CBS show besides this and Big Brother. I loved the ex list. It was fun and entertaining. I'm not home on Friday's either to watch it so I Tivoed it.

Shelly Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

Tell CBS what you think! Go to www.cbs.com and scroll down the VERY bottom... there is light gray link called USER FEEDBACK. If you want them to air the remaining episodes, you need to do this!!!

Hannah Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS.... BRING THE SHOW BACK!!!!

Katie Fri, Nov 7, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

I was one of the people boycotting the Ex List in support of Moonlight. Altho I will admit i never watched it, there was noo way it was as good as moonlight! Hopefully now we have a shot for a Jericho-like comeback for Moonlight! I'm praying and getting ready to write letters!!!

Thu, Nov 6, 2008 at 04:33 PM EST

I can not believe that they cancelled this show. It was so great. It was witty and had a great female lead. They also got rid of Moonlight which I loved! I guess there is nothing left to watch on CBS. This really sucks. And now we never get to see who her soul mate is. What a let down.

randi Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

This STINKS!!!!! I sadly thought my DVR messed up & didn't tape last fridays since I was on vacation, only to not see it set up for the following friday, so I look on line & what do I find HORRIBLE news! I am so sad, this was a GOOD show..fridays are hard, people go out, but move it then...this show deserves a better chance than it got...god, I mean give it a full season! At the VERY least let us view the remaining episodes online...this is CRAP! This was a good show that wasn't given a fair chance!

redlorrie Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 03:15 PM EST

Both my 16 year old daughter and I LOVED this show. I was a little hesitant when I sat down to watch it because I wasn't a fan of Elizabeth Reaser on Grey's Anatomy but Bella completely won me over. Please at least let us see the remaining episodes. Anyone that is interested in NCIS has already seen the reruns.

Xian Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 12:56 PM EST

Anyone who wants the Ex List back should write CBS immediately...click User Feedback at the bottom of the cbs.com site and tell them you want it back!

Nicole Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 12:42 AM EST

I LOVED THE EX LIST!! I don't understand why they can't just air the rest of the shows. Why have reruns on instead?

leelo Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 10:21 PM EST

Im sad, i really enjoyed the Ex List a lot, i found it really funny and cute. CBS SUCKS man!
And What's up with all these ppl calling ELizabeth Reaser Ugly? seriously!?

Not everything is ABOUT looks.

dawn Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 09:55 PM EST

Do you think there is a chance that if a group gets together and lobbies CBS that they will bring it back? It worked for Jericho. Those people sent in a bunch of peanuts. Maybe we could send in little frogs. I had some that were like rubber duckies but they were frogs.

It is a thought. I loved this show. I just finished getting caught up and now there are not anymore.

Valerie Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 09:36 PM EST

I'm SO SAD !!! I love that show ! For once, we got to see a woman on TV that is cool and genuinely funny, not "trips on her own feet" funny.

Caitlin Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 08:06 PM EST

WHY DOES CBS KEEP CANCELLING MY SHOWS!? First the unbelievably amazing Moonlight was cancelled, now The Ex List is cancelled! I wanted to know who Bella's soul mate was! I'm boycotting CBS...never will I watch a show on that station again because as soon as I get into it, they will cancel it.

Na Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 05:03 PM EST

Bring back the Ex list! We want to know who Bella ends up with!

Pam Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

Total Bummer...I am home on Friday nights and have been totally enjoying something other than a crime drama or game show or reality show. This was a fun show with a fun cast!! Too bad!!

Katie Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 01:28 PM EST

I'm really bummed about this. I was hoping they would at least put the rest of the episodes on their website, but they've completely removed the "Ex List" page from their site. The show was really fun, had great guest stars and an original premise. Bummer ...

sarah j Mon, Nov 3, 2008 at 12:43 PM EST

Of course. The network doomed it from the beginning by airing it on the dreaded Friday night time slot (saving the "good" nights for their precious (and disgusting) crime dramas. Heaven forbid we get a nice show without blood and gore, and now it's been axed. Nice going, CBS.

Nicole Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 09:00 PM EST

I can not believe that another show that I like to watch has been taken off the air. I am getting really tired of these television networks teasing us with these good shows just to rip them off the air a few weeks later & replace it with a stupid show or reruns of a show that I must have seen about 4 times already. This is like the 4th show that I have gotten into that has been Canceled.

Olivia Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 08:58 PM EST

ahhhh man this totally sucks.
i was like wtf.
Everyone on that show was freakin sweet.
I think CBS should look at all the comments and tthen they would realized they screwed upp.

R.I.P The Ex list <3

Heather Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 08:42 PM EST

I agree "Bad Move CBS". I also enjoyed the show but watched it online or saved it on my DVR for later.

Tammy Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 08:20 PM EST

I really liked the ex list. I am not always home on Fridays so it was hard to watch. I would goto cbs and watch from my laptop. I don't think cbs gave it enough time and advertising. Wish they would bring it back maybe on another night.

Misty Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 07:53 PM EST

I agree!!! Please don't scrap it. The ex-list is awesome. Put it on another night like Tuesday or Wednesday. I record it on my DVR because I am never home on Friday. I loved the characters and the story lines always made me laugh. Bad move CBS!!

Melanie Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

I loved this show and was so sad not to find it on my DVR yesterday! Putting a show aimed at single women on a Friday night was the most idiotic move CBS execs could make. A talking monkey could have told them that! Don't waste a good show on a night no one is home to watch it. Friday night TV is for parents and older generations who stay in on Friday nights. Bring this show back and put it on a weekday or at least on a cable network that can rerun it several times throughout the week.

MyVamp Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 12:26 PM EST

To all the Ex List fans, I'm sorry your show was cancelled.

To those telling Moonlight fans to get over it and move on...I wish I could. Really, I can't help it. I swore I wouldn't boycott CBS because that is just pointless, in my opinion. The fact is, I haven't even been able to turn on the darn tv since Moonlight was cancelled. How's that for pathetic?

I've learned something though. I thought the Ex List was a sad piece of "carp" <-- unscramble the letters! : ) Obviously some people liked it. Some people thought Moonlight was awful, while I thought it was awesome. I guess we don't all like the same things. Your idea of crap is my idea of an excellent show, and vice versa.

Warmest welcome to the Ex-List fans - why don't y'all join us Moonlight/Jericho/Blood Ties fans on the "They Cancelled My Show!!!" couch and we'll swap sob-stories. There's always room for one more.

Pass the cookies and choccy ice cream, I still need a good cry and a chocolate fix.

*cries*

Linz Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 10:25 AM EST

I liked The Ex-list but I knew from the start that it would get pulled. It just didn't appeal to a large audience. I thought it would fail mainly because you can only go so far with the same story line. Was every episode going to be a new guy that she dumps or would get dumped by? There is only so far you can go with that. Plus there were several pointless characters that needed storylines--bad! Why was her most previous ex in almost every show just to give the dog to her? Why was there a couple that lived with her that you knew basically nothing about other than she liked to "shower" a lot and he liked photography? Why was the other single male roomate only known for liking surfing? There were so many characters and they weren't utlized at all. It seemed they were just there to fill space. This show could have gone a lot further with some tweeks in the plot and characters. But instead of fixing.. they just ax it. PS. friday at 9pm is NOT a good timeslot for success!

michelle Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 06:52 AM EST

I liked the Ex-list. It was light and funny. I was disappointed when I went to watch it on my DVR and it was NCIS instead. Even my husband got a good laugh at the show. I don't understand the TV industry.

Ananda Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 06:37 AM EST

I lived for watching the Ex List after my work week. I cancelled dates and parties for this show. The time slot was doomed and CBS really make a stupid mistake of making it on a time that everyone who is anyone is out and about after a work week. The suits at CBS need to know that this show would really make it in a different time slot. NCIS reruns? Are you joking? CBS you are really stupid for pulling the EX List and replacing it with NCIS reruns which I could care less about. I have only watched NCIS once and it was stupid. The Ex List needs to be put back on or CBS will never be watched by me ever again.

deering Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 04:14 AM EST

Yay to CBS for cancelling this crap. Shows like this always make the mistake of 1) not giving their heriones real lives; 2) thinking that every woman out there gives a damm about seeing other women find their "soulmates" (blech!). And THE EX-LIST was particularly insulting because it proposed the ridiculous idea that a single woman would go back for more humiliation/grief from guys she dumped just to find The One. For single women, that's the stuff of nightmares. For married ones, it's the stuff of boredom. Hollywood needs to stop treating female viewers as if they are all love-starved, lonely, Edy's-eating losers who'll watch any kind of romantic pap--or will do anything for love.

jasmine Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 02:52 AM EST

i had it set to record and it recorded some stupid show!

i want it back it was such a good show and i love the lead! she is great! cbs u suck

Jessica Sun, Nov 2, 2008 at 02:00 AM EST

I really liked the show too and my husband and I looked forward to watching it! I hope CBS reconsiders and maybe puts it on a different night.

Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 11:53 PM EST

Solution: Bring back "Friends". haha. I wish.

However, speaking of which, I recall watching the Friends Pilot and then the episodes which followed and I laughed. hard. and once I became familiar with the characters, laughed harder. Sitcoms these days don't do that to me...except for Scrubs. This show failed because it showed all her exes as having flaws, but didn't magnify any of hers. A good sitcom reveals all flaws and then utilizes them.

thereisbetter Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 10:58 PM EST

I caught this show once on a Friday and I didn't get through the episode due to annoying friend, and too many bikinis and not enough smart writing....a really great dramedy that showed a smart, funny, witty and strong female character was Joan of Arcadia! I was really mad when that show got prematurely cancelled! There should be more shows like this but not on Fri or Sat but on a Thurs or Sun eve....then it will get better ratings.

Mandy Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 09:02 PM EST

I am really ticked off that this show was cancelled already. I looked forward to Friday nights after a boring work week, just kicking back and watching Ghost Whisper and then the ex-list. Obviously this show has a lot of fans. I do not understand, how there are so many dumb a** shows on TV and this one gets cancelled!

SandyS Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 09:01 PM EST

Wow!! Like so many others, I faithfully went to my DVR to find out that The Ex List was not there!!! Talk about disappointment! It was a down right fun show, that featured people like us, not your typical "Hollywood Types", which made it more real. Bad mistake in yanking the show!!

Gina Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:40 PM EST

I am so dissapointed to hear that the show was cancelled. On Friday night, I was so ready to watch and see what new adventure Elizabeth was involved in... I was really enjoying the show, and looking forward to watching it on on 10/31/08. I searched through the TV guide thinking maybe the show time had changed. What a bummer!!! I'm sure many women would agree that the character "Elizabeth" was having the same challenges in finding "Mr Right" and hoping for that ring...WOW. I am hurt.

Lee-Ann Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:22 PM EST

This morning I came home to check my DVR for my usual Ex List taping and was horrified to find out that it was not there and even more so after doing some research and finding out that the show has been pulled! Yes, I am a Ghost Whisperer fan however I made friday nights my TV night (even if I had to DVR it) and I included The Ex List in my tapings as I really enjoyed the show and felt that it was a show that I'm sure a lot of women could relate to and not only that but the entire cast of The Ex List MADE the show. I really wish that you could give the show one more chance maybe on another night/time slot. I know I would continue to be a devoted fan - heck I even had it on my facebook!!

Erin Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

I am extremely disappointed that this show was cancelled! I really liked this show. Please CBS bring it back. At least try it out on another day. I bet you it would be popular if they tried it in another time slot. It was really funny and I loved the cast. Why not give it a chance instead of throwing in the towel so quickly.

Erin Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:15 PM EST

I am extremely disappointed that this show was cancelled! I really liked this show. Please CBS bring it back. At least try it out on another day. Kate Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

Besides the low ratings it had, because it was aired on a Friday night, I read that CBS and the executive producer had creative differences also. My daughter and I are very disappointed that the show is cancelled. This was a show that she could relate to given all the differences in the guys she had dated. I called my daughter right after we watched the first show... we didn't say anything to each other; we both just sat on the phone and laughed! It was great... please bring the show back! We don't care what time slot you put it on, we'll watch it.

Megan Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

I am one of those women who sit home on Friday nights looking forward to The Ex List. If I was not home, the show was programmed into my DVR. I thought the show was funny and guys hot. Susman has an idea by changing when the show is aired to capture the right audience during the week.

essie Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 07:15 PM EST

I am absolutely devastated to find out that this show has been cancelled. My brother and I have watched all episodes and were looking forward to the next one. Can't we get a better time slot for this and bring it back?

Jen Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 06:55 PM EST

I'm so upset... my boyfrend and i previewed this show on our trip to vegas last may, so u could imagine how happy i was to learn it would actually be on that air. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!

wccgirl Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 06:36 PM EST

I loved the show, and I Tivoed it. So I could have the best of both. I just find it irritating that networks are not allowing a show the chance to grow. I am a huge fan of Friends but if you go back and watch the first season and then the final you can see the growth in the characters. Ex List had kind of the same vibe. Thirty something looking for her soul mate, and the friends hanging out in the kiddie pool. At the very least they could have aired all 11 shows before pulling the plug. I was really enjoying having a light show to watch, CSI is too heavy at times.

peaches Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 04:19 PM EST

Look it wasn't brain surgery but it was enjoyable for what it was. The Ex List was a fizzy Friday night cocktail and I enjoyed it while it lasted. That being said, The Starter Wife on USA is AMAZING! Hilarious, juicy, and a whole lot of fun, I recommend it as an Ex List replacement.

I am SO bummed, I loved this show and so did a bunch of my girlfriends. We were looking forward to our "girls night" of Ghost Whisperer, The Ex List, and then Numbers. Please bring it back! PRETTY PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP!

Heather Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 08:34 AM EST

I hope all the viewers who like show write cbs - getting feedback about disappointment is the only way the show has a chance of coming back!

Toni Sat, Nov 1, 2008 at 04:18 AM EST

I CANNOT believe this show was pulled! It's funny ---- I looked forward to Friday night after watching The Ghost Whisperer it was a natural transition to stay on the channel--aren't there enough shows out there like NCIS? Too many in my opinion. BRING THE EX LIST BACK !!

What i wanna know is what kind of ratings is CBS getting by replacing a good show with reruns.

cre8tvnrg Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

BUMMER! I was SO looking forward to this Friday night GEM tonight! Yeah it was 'cute' & maybe frivolous, but that's why I liked it! I LIVED in Mission Beach & they got it RIGHT ON! I KNOW girls JUST LIKE Bella! I too am single, 'older' & dated quite a few, but never the "one". I also have quite a few GREAT girlfriends in my same boat.
GIVE 'THE EX' A CHANCE, CBS!
It was PLAIN FUN & a PERFECT on a Friday night, when dateless! Come ON, do you REALLY think 4 shows is FAIR now-a-days?I just told friends about it and they had NEVER even heard about it but were gonna watch! I stumbled upon it! CBS,have you heard of-MARKETING? I am TELLING YOU, there is THAT demographic out there & CBS HIT IT RIGHT ON.
Don't give up! BTW, I went to CBS to look TEL up & see why it was not on tonight-they TOOK DOWN the site! We can't even plead for reconsideration or watch webisodes.
ANYONE out there feel the same? I'm emailing CBS anyway-it worked for another show! JOIN ME! Now what to do on Fri nites!? :{

Are they kidding Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:17 PM EST

I HATE cop shows! What the hell was CBS thinking? I actually looked forward to tv on Friday evenings again...Ghost Whisperer then The Ex List. Well BAM...I'll be switching staions because I refuse to watch that stupid NCIS show!

Jen Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:13 PM EST

Argggg! I am so mad they dropped this show! There is, NOTHING else to watch on a Friday night and I thought it was a GREAT SHOW! I loved it! CBS sucks!

Stefanie carr Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

I am really unhappy with CBS dropping EX list. It was the only program I tuned into on CBS in fact. Really an unwise choice by the network.

donna Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 10:44 PM EST

Seriously? Canceled? It figures.CBS finally got a good show(how many years after the first CSI?)and so they naturally cancelled it.Yuo would think they would want their demographic to be under 60, but noooo. What a bummer. How has Ghost Whisperer survived? Its hip and young...why is it on CBS? If only the exec's could see these posting 'cuz this show had a following. Seriously.

Sidnee Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

Dang, First Moonlight and now The Ex List...I LOVED BOTH OF THEM!! Even my husband loved Moonlight, I'm still wondering what CBS was thinking with cancelling that one!! Ex list was a flirty and fun show with good characters. Having a daughter who lives in San Diego I can say that they had the characters and lifestyles down pat...I felt like i was there visiting my daughter on her street!! Boo to CBS again!!

Emily Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 09:13 PM EST

I'm pissed! That show was awesome and I can totally relate to Bella as I'm sure a lot of women could have. Finding "Mr. Right" these days IS impossible!

Clarabelle Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 09:08 PM EST

I can't believe this! The ex list was a cute and catchy little show.. oh well I guess when NBC decided to move Lipstick Jungle to Friday nights CBS decided they couldn't compete! But thank you very much CBS for making it easy to decide which station to watch.. this was the only CBS show that I've EVER watched.. Good job!!

melody Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 08:58 PM EST

The characters were lovable and funny :( this was pretty much my favorite show to watch.. it was funny, lighthearted, and optimistic for us hopeless romantics! please put it back on!!!

Chris "The Gift Guy" Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 08:22 PM EST

Wow! This was a great show...and now its gone. So now we can watch another cop show ncir, nric, cis? I enjoyed the laughs and humor! Now we get to watch crimes, drugs, serial killers and murdered hookers. Whats up with that? From: Chris www.bukoogifts.com

Shelly Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 08:10 PM EST

This was the ONLY show I scheduled to watch. I was looking forward to all her exes since it relates to real life. Please put it back on.

Lucia Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 07:50 PM EST

The problem with this show was that they didn't have any BUILDUP of romantic and sexual tension. Look to the woman-friendly romantic dramedies that survive, and you'll find two characters who are hot for each other, in love and belong together, but neither will admit it, and they're locked in an exciting, foreplayesque sexual and romantic game.

I was hoping that "The Ex List" was going there with the lead character and her roomie Auggie, but it didn't survive long enough for us to find out. Also, it was unrealistic, with a new guy appearing from the past in each ep, then disappearing at the end of the hour. And some of the main characters were icky (Auggie's girlfriend, the sister.)

There's definitely an audience for hourlong primetime romantic dramedies. I'm in it! They just need to follow a better formula. Then again, I thought that formula was 100% there in Swingtown, and it died too.

I really enjoyed this show and am upset that it was taken of the air. Now, there is nothing I want to watch on Friday night. It hosuld have been given a better night slot and I am sure other women would have enjoyed it as much as I did.

Terri Fri, Oct 31, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

I wondered why it wasn't on last week. I'm bummed out. Even though I think the show should have been scheduled for a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night time slot; I liked it and think if it would have been given more time, others would have gotten interested in it too. I wanted to see what happened to Bella next.
