Rock and Roll Hall of Fame noms: Who got snubbed?

Sep 24, 2008, 02:00 PM | by Mike Bruno

Categories: Music

Bonjovivaughn_l_2 In mulling over the list of nine finalists up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, one thing kind of stands out: Half of the artists ain't rock and roll. Yes, we have Metallica, Wanda Jackson, Jeff Beck, and the Stooges. And even Run D.M.C., though a rap act, has had a major impact on rock and roll, thanks to their use of rock samples and groundbreaking collaboration with Aerosmith on "Walk This Way." But then there's soul/doo-wop singers Little Anthony and the Imperials, funk band War, soul/R&B singer Bobby Womack, and the most miscast "rock and roll" act on the list, Chic (nominated for a second year in a row). Now, I know "rock and roll" can be loosely applied to a lifestyle, an attitude, the rebellious side of pop music, if you will, and I know its roots in blues an R&B make nods for Bobby Womack and War seem plausible. But I really can't understand how Chic, a disco band (and a very good one at that), is up while Bon Jovi and Stevie Ray Vaughan (artists with the requisite 25 years since the release of their first records) sit on the sidelines.

Who else got snubbed, PopWatchers? Are you into the Hall's loose interpretation of "rock and roll," or do you think they took a wrong turn by inducting Grand Master Flash last year?

ed Sun, Jun 21, 2009 at 11:02 AM EST

the fact that a band that was as big as grand funk was is not in the hall goes to show you how out of touch the hall of fame is. deep purple is another shame. note to these idiots who vote the bands in.....YOU CANNOT VOTE IN THE NEWER BANDS WITHOUT HAVING THE BANDS THAT INFLUENCED THEM IN FIRST!! as lars ulrich said on a biography about black sabbath..." if there was no black sabbath, there would never have been a metallica!" oh,well. maybe someday they can build another hall where only the fans can vote the bands in...and we wouldn"t have bands who sold millions of records and played to millions of fans on the outside looking in.

Dennis Albaugh Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 10:05 AM EST

I have to agree with most that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has lost sight for their nominamtions. All they want are "big" names that sell tickets. Whatever happened to the pioneers that made rock what it is today. Connie Francis was a women's leader in the field and to date has been snubbed by the "Hall". When Brenda Lee was inducted she said that Connie Francis was an inspiration to her and she couldn't understand why she wasn't in the "Hall". I don't understand either. She was and is an inspiration to all who grew up with her. PUT Connie in the "Hall of Fame".

Darrell Maynard Wed, Apr 1, 2009 at 01:24 AM EST

what about moody blues , king crimson @ yes they where pioneers in rock history. the keyboards, guitars percussions @ songwriting.give them a nod. thank you

Willy Brown Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 08:15 AM EST

The hardest working American Band KISS keeps getting snubbed by the ROH so called board because they are not a artsy fartsy cutie pie band from the 80’s nor have they came out and bashed a politician.

thomas edward diganci Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 11:15 AM EST

Still no Moody Blues. You people are either not taking enough of your med's., or are taking more than you should.
Are you people practicioners of recto-cranial inversion. ?
Me thinks you should pull your heads out...

Still on tour after over 40 yrs., + 300 million albums sold. Still selling out every concert.

Ray Thomas said it best after one critic did not give a good review.

It was at the Poplar Creek concert in the 1980's, where the Moodies , broke the all time highest attendance record, over 27,000 people. Thomas said,"what is one guy with a pen, compared to 27,000 people giving a standing 10 minute ovation, after Nights in white satin??

You guys, are the real Motley Crew. You induct some of the worst, scum , sucking pigs, in music, and you pass on the Moodies, as well as a few other great groups?

If your leg was on fire, I would not urinate on it. I will never visit your hall of shame, and never support you in any way.

You people puff the big horn.

Bob C. Sat, Mar 21, 2009 at 12:11 AM EST

Someone needs to start a new rock &roll hall of fame !the one that exists is a complete farce!Too many poor groups in,too many great ones not in!

Ken Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 08:56 PM EST

Madonna over Cher?
Cher is def more pop rock & had practically invented the hippie chick look w/the bellbottoms in the 60's. She might not be 100% rock & roll but sure has been a hell of alot more rock influenced & talented than Madonna ever was. And yes how can Benatar, Heart,Kiss, Cooper & countless others not have been chosen yet over some that have.

DNK Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 04:19 PM EST

Can some one recognize the true "Indie" spirit of a band whose been around forever until people finally started to notice their existence. One of the best Live shows in the history of rock: The Flaming Lips

kd Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 02:03 PM EST

Moody Blues
Genesis
Yes
Tull
Little Feat
Alice Cooper
Warren Zevon
Richard Thompson
Joe Jackson
John Hiatt
Graham Parker
The Replacements

JD Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 01:43 PM EST

Cheap Trick not only get snubbed, they don't even get nominated. That's BS ~ their influence on a whole generation of rockers is apparent not only by listening, but by asking any 30-something musician in the business. All the "grunge" heroes cite Rick Neilsen, Robin Zander, Bun E. Carlos and Tom Peterssen as THE band of their youth. Catch them while you can - they still tour over 200 days a year and put on a spectacular live show.

also- a rock hall with no AC/DC? for shame.

Cory Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 01:06 PM EST

Definitely Three Dog Night with Cory, Chuck, and Danny back together and maybe a legitimate tour to follow! Most top 10 hits in the early seventies after the Beatles!!!!!!!

Max Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 01:02 PM EST

THREE DOG NIGHT (MAYBE THIS WAY CHUCK NEGRON WOULD COME BACK TO THE GROUP!, CHICAGO REJOINED WITH PETER CETERA, AND THE DOOBIE BROTHER

Jimmy Bownds Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 12:19 AM EST

I think Rush should tell the Hall of Shame to shove it up their ass.

sadie&leo Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 07:06 PM EST

where are the Red Hot Chili Peppers????? It's been 25 years plus and they NEED to be in there!!!!

BARBARA Thu, Jan 1, 2009 at 02:43 AM EST

PAUL RODGERS SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME BY NOW. HE HAS BEEN THE SINGER FOR FIVE BANDS NOW IS IT! NOT TO MENTION A SOLO CAREER AND HAS BEEN IN THE BUSINESS FOR FORTY YEARS NOW!!!HE HAS THE BEST VOICE IN ROCK N ROLL AND HAS STILL NOT BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME.

aaron Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 10:05 AM EST

GRAND FUNK RAILROAD needs to be in the hall of fame. Mark Don And Mel all the way!

kimebrly Fri, Nov 28, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

NON ANGLO ARTISTS ARE NOT

feelgood, clash.

Adrian Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 02:51 PM EST

I'm a little suprised that no one has even mentioned The Cars. I also agree about Cheap Trick and Heart.

Mike Murphy Tue, Oct 28, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

How unbelievable is this? The Moody Blues, Chicago, and the Doobie Brothers are not in the HOF. Yet Madonna, and RUN-DMC are included. What a sham...!!!

jm Sun, Oct 19, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

The R&R Hall of Fame is a joke because it deliberately snubs certain acts that should have been inducted years ago, due to personal beefs/taste of Jann Wenner of Rolling Stone.

With bands with long established catalogs like CHEAP TRICK, KISS or even BADFINGER never even being nominated, holes the size of Jupiter are punched through the credibility of the R&R HOF.

As a person who has more than 30 years in the music business as a musican/producer, journalist and even a former syndicated radio personality, I find it really in poor taste to have censorship in this nominating process.

gary carlson Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 07:22 PM EST

the doobs are long over due in fact it would be a joke to puy them in now

gary carlson Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 07:22 PM EST

the doobs are long over due in fact it would be a joke to puy them in now

greg dennis Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

RUSH, influencing and inspiring more world class rock musicians in history!!! having metallica in before JUDAS PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN is like putting barry bonds in the hall of fame before babe ruth or kobe before micheal jordan...the people running the hall are obviously listening to to way too much fluff and not enough substance. Do any of them even play an instrument? JUDAS PRIEST(even though I like maiden more as a band) is also deserving a spot. MAIDEN...where is the eddie wing at the hall? then the more mainstream snubs....CHEAP TRICK...STEVIE RAY VAUGHN...ALICE COOPER...KISS...BAD CO.and yes going on 25 years now with the original lineup....THE TRAGICALLY HIP....

Luke Sun, Oct 5, 2008 at 06:52 AM EST

For years the most glaring omission has been the failure to place Chicago in this so-called Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While many great acts have been snubbed (i.e., Rush, Genesis, Yes, Moody Blues to name a few)Chicago dominated the 70's with their innovative horn-driven, jazz-influenced, R&B-based pop rock style. Influence? Every serious musical student in the decade was lured by Chicago's musicality and unique sound. Chicago opened the doors for many individual's exploration and appreciation of jazz. They are both a band for musicians and a band for the masses.

Mark Sat, Oct 4, 2008 at 11:59 AM EST

Chicago, Alice Cooper, Three Dog Night,Kiss, ELO....The Hall of Fame is a joke. The people who run it have no desire to do the right thing. They are too drunk with their own power. It's a shame. So blame Jann, Dave Marsh, Jon Landau and all the others who have no concept of what rock and roll is about. Rock and roll is by the and for the people. And to play politcal games with an HOF dedicated to it's spirit proves my point.

JM Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 08:40 PM EST

Who gives a crap about the hall of fame
theyre just people who think they know about music

Phil Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 08:28 PM EST

Rush,Rush,Rush,Rush!!!!!!!!! What do we need to do to get them in the rock n roll hall. Start a pedition?Who do we notify. Stevie Ray Vaughn as well. Metallica? Thats a little soon don't u think. There good but not as good as many others that deserve to be in. It sounds like they contribute to the NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THE ROCK N ROLL HALL. Very Political.

Stuart Wenger Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

If Chicago, Foreigner, and the Doobie Brothers are too lightweight for you - hey, they let the Four Seasons and the Dave Clark Five in! - then how about Dire Straits, Cheap Trick, or Badfinger?

Jack Wilson Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 02:56 PM EST

A performer named Meadowman has done a song to try to convince the hall of fame to let Chubby in:

Stevie Ray is one of the greatest guitars. He need to get into the rock hall of fame soon before i flip!

Dawg Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

Cheap Trick. 30+ years of recording and touring and still going strong with the original members. 20+ million records sold. End of story.

sarah Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 01:50 PM EST

Benatar!

Ben Shack Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 07:44 AM EST

Where's Rush?! Just because they're not conformos doesn't mean they should shut them out. I mean, Rush deserves to be in there more than half the people already in there! We got idiots running this thing!

j provo Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:33 PM EST

I believe that the figures are what the naysayers of Rush need to look at 14 multiplatnum and 24 gold records
speaks for itself as well as a song that is about the holocaust is not something unique than what is ?.to the powers that control the nomination process, look and listen to the words . Rush has written songs about several historical events . what other band has done the same ? They were inducted into the Canadian music of hall of fame in 1994 the radio air play of their music is very strong in the USA the people like the music . how many platnum records does run dmc have i have been searching on the net but have found no figures . i am sorry to pick on you guys . correct me if I am wrong but it is not 14 platnums sevral golds . they sholud not be locked out of the hall.

Scott Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:05 PM EST

Some others who should already be in the Hall of Fame:

Kiss
Heart
Joan Jett
Pat Benatar
Dire Staits

Also, some people might laugh this one off, but I think Billy Idol is also deserving, if his entire career is considered. He was right there at the birth of punk rock.

Scott Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 08:58 PM EST

Cheap Trick not being in there yet, or even nominated, is crazy. They've been recording and touring for over 30 years. They've had huge, zeitgeist-capturing albums. They have a very distinct, unique "personality" as a band (e.g. the "mad hatters" of rock). They've been so influential that the likes of John Lennon, Kurt Cobain, George Martin, and Billy Corgan have all sung their praises. They've got one of rock's all-time great vocalists in Robin Zander (i.e. "The man of a 1,000 voices"). All of this...AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN NOMINATED!!!! Meanwhile, non-rock artists like Madonna and Grand Master Flash are not only inducted, but they're inducted almost immediately. Umm, right...that makes a lot of sense.

Redzy Smith Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 08:06 PM EST

I can't believe KISS,Judas Priest,Iron maiden and RUSH are'nt in yet Metallica is getting inducted!!!Is RUSH considered Art rock??WTF?whats with that?? Yet Madonna got in...Can you say Boycott??

Redzy Smith Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

When will RUSH be inducted!!!???? Rush has a hell of alot more than Bon Jovi(who unfortunatly got snubbed)they have more time than Grandmaster flash!,Run DMC,madonna,Whats wrong with this??!! PLEASE nominate RUSH..They deserve it..

Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 01:21 PM EST

Technically Ronstadt is the queen of cover songs, but yes, she deserves to be inducted.

Bob Jamison Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:46 AM EST

I am another who is tired of seeing Leon Russell snubbed. The man is the epitome of Rock N Roll. Leon's contributions to this genre is a who's who of legends. Plus his own stellar career. His not being in the Hall is like leaving out Elvis and Beatles. I agree Linda Ronstadt not being enshrined is ludicrous. Not only is she the greatest female artist of all time, but what red blooded american male didnt have her poster on his wall.

Jeffery Haas Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 12:27 AM EST

The RRHOF has gone so far off message that it doesn't even serve its purpose anymore. The RRHOF has "jumped the shark".
Leon Russell not only deserves induction, he deserves HIS OWN WING in the joint.

Pam Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:34 PM EST

It is beginning to be more of an Honor NOT to be in the stupid Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I am boycotting the museum until the Greats like Leon Russel and Linda Ronstadt are put in!

Michael McNeely Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:15 PM EST

I've also gotta add:

Todd Rundgren
Peter Gabriel
Alice Cooper
Genesis
The B-52s
Lou Reed (solo)
Cat Stevens

Michael McNeely Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:06 PM EST

I can't see popsters like Bon Jovi or The Monkees ever getting in, but I agree about how so-called "art rock" keeps getting snubbed.

They threw Queen and Pink Floyd a bone, but Queen could equally be called glitter rock, Floyd equally psychedelic.

What about Yes, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, and The Moody Blues? All of them are very influential, heavily imitated bands.

Adding insult to injury last year was seeing a mediocre band like the Dave Clark Five get in, while the Moodies remain the last Britsh invasion group not to be inducted.

Then again I haven't taken the Hall seriously since they inducted Dusty Springfield.

richard Warburton Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:02 PM EST

Linda Ronstadt - the Queen of Rock, the biggest female superstar of the '70s, influential on other female rock and country singers beyond measure, country-rock pioneer, first hit was 40 years ago. I mean, if you're going to induct The Eagles (her backup band), James Taylor (recorded his songs, performed on his albums), Fleetwood Mac and Bonnie Raitt -- Ronstadt's non-induction is most suspect.

Steve Burns Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:31 PM EST

Uh, HELLO??? Rock N Roll Hall of SHAME is more like it. Consider, for one GLARING example, The Master of Space and Time, Leon Russell. Politics and Money, RRHOF is in need of a mental bailout. Hello Congress, are you listening???

fasted Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:30 PM EST

Cheap Trick.
It's time!
I can't believe Jan Wenner is keeping them out.
Cheap Trick has 2 albums on Rolling Stone's Top 500 of all-time so he would have to be a hypocrite if that is true.

Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:27 PM EST

*RRHF

Stephanie T. Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:26 PM EST

Mayall is not in for the same reason Bilnd Faith, and Todd Rundgren are not in- because the RRF has a bunch of people on their comittee that are so stupid, they don't even know what a dictionary is. If they did, they'd understand the definition of INFLUENCE!

c. durborow Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

talk about being snubbed...legendary artist TOMMY JAMES...24 gold records..9 gold & platinum albums...his song in 25 films..in commercials over 300 artists worldwide covered his music....MONY MONY, CRIMSON & CLOVER, CRYSTAL BLUE PERSUASION, I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW, DRAGGIN' THE LINE, SWEET CHERRY WINE, MIRAGE, TIGHTER TIGHTER, HANKY PANKY AND the list goes on....

MIDLO MENACE Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 02:30 PM EST

ALL U RAT BASTARDS!!!!!!!
Plain & simple, why the "HELL" isn't JOHN MAYALL in the hall of SHAME??????
If it wasn't for him there would probably be not fleetwood mac, eric clapton, creem, etc. GIVE HIM HIS DUE!!!!!! AGAIN the hall of fame people are "RAT ASS BASTARDS"!!!!!!!
Love always-MIDLO MENACE

DyWeasel Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 01:39 PM EST

Let's see ... 24 gold albums, 14 platinum albums ... only The Beatles, Rolling Stones, KISS and Aerosmith have more consecutive gold albums in the history of rock and roll ... #6 grossing tour in 2007 and #8 in 2008 ... but because Jann Wenner has a bug up his butt about "art-rock", Rush is, yet again, snubbed.

Until Rush is in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, the Hall will be nothing but a joke.

Kyle Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 01:13 PM EST

what about kiss and alice cooper, they have been in this game for over 30 years. now they will just let anyone in, its like there isn't any standards anymore

GC Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 12:11 PM EST

Influential: Deep Purple
Breakthrough: Heart
Talent: Joe Walsh

Jen Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 12:10 PM EST

Snubbed? The Monkees among others listed here. Jann Wenner will never let The Monkees in, whether he's directly involved with the 'Rock' votes or not... but still they deserve to be in. They transcended the tv show and became a real band. Face it. It is pretty weird to not see Rush or Cheap Trick in. "I Want You To Want Me?" "Tom Sawyer?" Come ON!

wp Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 12:09 PM EST

Steve Miller
and many already listed.

Stephanie T. Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 11:54 AM EST

GNR can't be eligible yet bcause their first album was in 1988, and besides bands like Nazereth, T-Rex, and UFO should be there before 80's rock bands. These bands were total inspirations!

But I digress. I believe that we are up to 1984 and under. For example: Cindi Lauper would be eligible. It would make sense if she got in because she was one of the pioneers of underground college rock. Technically Blue Angel was more popular in England than in the U.S. but college stations played them, and her solo career?! Huge!

J Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:25 AM EST

Kiss and Rush first
Then,
Genesis
Cheap Trick
Peter Gabriel
The Runaways
Squeeze

Roger Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:20 AM EST

RUSH
Cheap Trick

How could they NOT be in there....

Cricket Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:13 AM EST

Wait wait wait...Did I read somewhere that Pat Benetar isn't in? Isn't she, besides the ladies of Heart, the most influential female rocker of ALL TIME??

cRAIG Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

CHEAP TRICK

paul Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:39 AM EST

excuse me, KISS, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden. You can't put Metallica in before you put the bands that are foundation of the genre

sddwtb Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:03 AM EST

Jeff "freakin' brilliant" Buckley! C'mon!

sddwtb Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:02 AM EST

Jeff freakin; brilliant Buckley! C'mon!

JohnT Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:55 AM EST

If the HOF was about influence, the Skyliners, who in 1958 were the first group to record a rock and roll song with full orchestra on their "Since I Don't Have You," would have been in long ago. "Since I Don't Have You" is also a classic that has been rerecorded by numerous single artists and groups over the years, up to and including Guns N' Roses. But then, it's not about influence. As others have said, it's about politics.

John Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:42 AM EST

Jann Wenner controls the the 'Rock' Hall, sir. I hope you were kidding.

DK Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:38 AM EST

The Beastie Boys, come on people, 25 years later they are still making relevant music that is both rock and hip-hop.

JustSaying Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:29 AM EST

I see a lot of mention here about how the decisions are all about INFLUENCE...and if that were true, then I'd absolutely agree with a nomination for the likes of Chic. However, regardless of whether this is the 'Rock n Roll' HOF or the 'Music' HOF, you absolutely can NOT stand by Madonna's entrance into the hall on the basic of Influence. A 'Fashion' HOF, most certainly...but a HOF dedicated to music in any way/shape/form, regardless of what it's called....no way does that fly.

And we may as well not even get started discussing why Quincy Jones won't ever get in....it's all too easy for these guys to talk their way around the personal vendettas they have for some HUGELY influencial artists that will never be acknowledged by the RnR HOF...

M Rizzle Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:27 AM EST

I got 2 and a half words for you:

GUNS N' ROSES!!!!!!!!!

Where are the Doobie's. Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:08 AM EST

Another group who has been eligbile since 1996 is The Doobie Brothers. When you look at who is making it and still out you can tell its who has played up to Jann Wenner. I mean you have so many groups and others who don't belong one example The Pretenders are in but not the Doobie's. The RNR Hall of fame should be renammed Rolling Stone Magazine Hall of Fame. Someone needs to create a legitimate hall of fame for rock and roll.

it is criminal that any of these acts are going to be inducted before alice cooper

Brian Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 07:55 AM EST

Jann Wenner has nothing to do with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

For the Mötley Crüe question they have been eligible since 2006 and where nominated this year but did not make the final nine. Similar to Metallica after being snubbed in 2008 Metallica is now a finalist. The Crüe's chances look good for being a 2010 finalist.

Chicago should be in the Hall but Chicago will never be inducted because of Jann Wenner who controls the hall, with his personal vendeta from years ago over some Rolling Stone magazine crap keeps them out. This is just one reason of many, why the Hall is such a joke.

I'm just happy - based on the nominees - that the induction ceremony (IN CLEVELAND AGAIN - FINALLY!!) might actually be decent and worth trying to get a ticket for.

The whole hall of fame is a a huge joke. It is a marketing ploy that is controlled by a small group with questionable musical tastes. Nobody cares.

duranmom Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:31 AM EST

Duran Duran should soooooooo be in.

To a previous poster who said ZZ Top should be nominated..they're already in.
What about Def Leppard?
Bon Jovi will make it in one of these days, this is the first year for them to be nominated, and very few bands (think Beatles, Rolling Stones) are inducted on the first nomination.

It seems as if I say this every year, but where's the love for Chicago?

I must agree with you all as a Canadian rush should be in the hall. Everyone admits to having liked, or still liking one rush song even if it's not the well known Tom Sawyer. Rush is an amazing band both musically and visually. I once watched an HD concert they gave and the set was just amazing. Funny but amazing. Plus Geddy Lee inspired millions of people to multi task on stage. The lead singer for Julien K. can take pride in the fact that he learned how to multi task guitar and keyboards from one Geddy Lee.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a Sham! It's ridiculous.
Declining and/or not accepting the following artists proves this.
They deseve to be in:

Badfinger
The Monkees
The Hollies
The Replacements
Elvis Costello

Yet another list of nominees that looks like it's been pulled out of someone's ass.

Rock&Roll Hall of Fame should primarily focus on rock acts at the expense of R&B, disco, etc, hence the words Rock&Roll in it's title. There is something fundamentally wrong about Madonna being inducted before Deep Purple, Rush or Jethro Tull.

Furthermore, Rock&Roll HoF seemingly hates hard rock/metal. Black Sabbath only made it in 2006, some 12 years after becoming available. At the same time, bands like Deep Purple, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions - all hugely influential bands, with lasting impact, who still have millions of fans worldwide - may never get the nod, while acts like Wanda Jackson (seriously, who the f#$% remembers Wanda Jackson?) are already on the list.
