Stop the presses! Britney's opening the VMAs!

Britneyspears_l Wait, didn't we know this already? Uh, apparently not. MTV put it in writing last night with the most anti-climactic "news story" (i.e. press release) ever: Britney Spears is indeed following up those hilar Russell Brand ads with an actual appearance at the VMAs this weekend. Not a performance, mind you, just some sort of mysterious non-musical (?) opening routine. I think this rules out the second and third scenarios Lisa Raphael predicted last month, but beyond that, anything could happen. Anything! And of course now that MTV has spent weeks ginning up anticipation for the show by teasing the possibility of a Britney performance, the whole world will no doubt be watching. It's like Carson Daly says in that MTV News article: "If you want to make a big splash, what better platform than the VMAs?" So sage, that Daly. (Was he trying for a late Olympic diving pun with the "splash"/"platform" thing?)

So: What do you think Britney's going to do on Sunday? Do you even care at this point? As a longtime apologist — Blackout was a totally solid album, people! — I know I'm rooting for her, but I'll try not to get my hopes up too high...

The only possible way this little skank is going to get my attention (other than this stupid article) is if she finally takes off her clothes and does a porn film. I may not be able to stand her very existence, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't f*ck her brains out if I had the chance!

Great. Let's exploit the mentally ill for monetary gain and ratings. Nothing greater than the Entertainment Industry!

first of all, i'm no convinced that britney still won't perform. second of all, if britney wants that comeback, she needs to work for it and give us what we want. not some subpar new song we don't care about. give us THE hit. britney. schoolgirl. "hit me baby one more time." done and done.

Why does MTV even bother with the VMAs anymore? They don't play music videos so why should they honor them with a fake award? Besides, most people are just going to turn in to see how big of a train wreck Britney's will be this year. Anything less than a total meltdown will be a disappointment.

To GT: It's Popwatch Groundhog Day!

Wait I thought this happened last year, and if I recall it sucked. Is in this some sort of Popwatch Time Machine?

i've given up on all awards shows. everything in music sucks. the ones who deserve all the recognition don't get any while the lame ones do.

Worst. Kept. Secret. Ever.

Heck yeah I'm excited! I've been rooting for a Britney comeback for a few years now. It's no fun to pick on a celeb when their life is in the tubes. Hopefully, the new and improved Britney will have tougher skin and will have relationships with guys that don't have nicknames like "meatpole" (alleged to be Fedex's old nickname on the tour).

Here's to hoping...

Why does this non-talented, white-trash, rather work on a comeback and not take care of her kids get so many chances. She can rot in her lip-synching hell for all I care. Why do people keep falling for this ish.
