'America's Got Talent' recap: Waiting for the final five

Sep 18, 2008, 12:02 PM | by Jaya Saxena

Categories: 'America's Got Talent', Mini TV Watch, Reality TV

Welcome back! We've had a few days to let last week's mania settle in, and finally, it seems like we're getting somewhere. We're going from top ten to top five this week, and next week is going to be the finals. One thing that I didn't realize is that there are no more judges' picks from this point on, so America is left to make "responsible choices," according to Piers. Let's see how that goes.

This week is "heroes week," where the contestants all have dedicated their acts to their personal heroes. Unfortunately, this does not mean, as I originally thought, that their acts are dedicated to the television show Heroes. I think that would make it way more interesting.

As Jerry introduced Kaitlyn Maher, I realized that he's probably going to have a seizure before the show is over. He is so unconditionally excited for every act, to the point where it looks like he's going to burst a vein in his forehead. Raise your hand if you were surprised that Kaitlyn Maher's hero is her father. Not that she doesn't melt my heart every time I see her, but I'm still confused as to why she's here. Also, her microphone was about half the size of her body. I'm surprised she didn't fall over. Again, Piers is the voice of reason here, and everyone boos him. He said she was good, but it wouldn't be fair to her to put her on a Vegas stage. Of course it wouldn't be fair, but does the audience agree? No, because no one is allowed to criticize a 4-year-old.

Donald Braswell sang another slow, romantic song. Jessica Price looked pretty, worried, and sparkly. And Joseph Hall performed for Elvis as Elvis, complete with dancers with letters on the backs of their leggings that spelled E-L-V-I-S. (Watch his performance below.) I feel really bad for the girl that got stuck with the "I." But Hoff admitted that Hall makes the girls go crazy, even a girl that Hoff is dating. You hear that, America? Hoff is dating a girl! A real live girl!

Neal E. Boyd dedicated "All By Myself" to his choir teacher, and he really did sing it beautifully. Opera isn't everyone's thing, but you can't deny he does have a great voice. His real competition comes from Queen Emily and Nuttin But Stringz, who as usual gave another amazingly passionate performance.(Watch it in the clip below.) The only problem was they probably have to change their name to "Other Thingz and Stringz" because now they have drummers and acrobats. Finally, Eli Mattson played "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" for Elton John, and managed to sound just like every pop pianist who's been trying to imitate Elton John for the past 30 years. All in all, it was a very typical night, but we'll see what America has to say about it tonight.

Who's going to make it? Who's out? And who's excited for Natasha Bedingfield playing tonight? More importantly, who knows why Natasha Bedingfield is playing tonight? (America's Got Talent -- except when it has to import it from London?)

Phila. Soft Pretzel Sat, Oct 4, 2008 at 01:02 PM EST

Jerry Springer is an enigma. He professes to be so sweet and supportive towards the contestants in contrast to the coarseness of the judges. Yet he hosts his own show which is one of the most sleezy and raunchy on the air. In fact, foreigners who watch American television actually believe this is how the majority of Americans act. Don't they realize the main characters are coached on what to say and the rest of the audience is Pavlov simulated by large poster instructions.

baby Fri, Oct 3, 2008 at 12:32 PM EST

I hoped that Katlyn would of got farther but I REALLY wanted nuttin but stringz

Oli Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 03:26 PM EST

America's got Talent or America does Karaoke, there's a reason why i don't watch American Idol, because it's mediocre at best, but mostly just painfull make your ears bleed renditions of other artists works. Why has America's Got Talent devolved into the same tripe? I can't believe that the top ten only had one act that wasn't basically just karaoke. Only one act that did something different and composed their own music - by rights they should have won. Also can't belive that Johnathon Burkin didn't make the top ten, guess his cunning stunts weren't enough to please that trio of stunning #$%^s. Basically this season just proved that America wouldn't know talent if it hit it in the face. Why is the general public so attracted to the bland and mediocre, is there not enough bull&%@t music out there already. Most of the songs covered weren't any good first time around when they were original works, let alone now a second time round when they're rehashed poorly by a bunch of wannabies.

smartalec44 Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 01:15 PM EST

I have nothing against Neal winning. In retrospect, of the five remaining finalist who cares which mediocre talent wins.
If Neal seriously thinks he's going to get the 100 million contract Terry Father received he's badly mistaken.
Has anybody watched the 14 year old jazz singer Nikki Yanofsky on PBS program FROM THE TOP OF CARNEGIE HALL. This 14 year girl from Canada has some future.

Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 09:23 PM EST

I think ALL of you should get a life if you don't enjoy the show and the WINNER!!!!!!! Turn the channel and keep all of you nasty remarks to yourself. NO ONE IS INTRESTED. Don't see any of you up there....Neal did deserve to win......

DONNA FARRIS Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 09:07 PM EST

AMERICA GOT IT WRONG THIS TIME. I THINK THE SOB STORY WORKED FOR THE WINNER. THE TRUE TALENT WAS NOTHIN, BUT STRINGZ!! THE TALENT AND EMOTION THEY EXUDE IS AMAZING AND THEY DESERVE GREAT SUCCESS. IF I WERE GOING TO PAY FOR A SHOW IN VEGAS, NOTHIN BUT STRINGZ WOULD BE THE ONLY ACT I WOULD PAY FOR...GOOD LUCK TO NOTHIN BUT STRINGZ!!!

Suki Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 08:59 PM EST

I cannot believe that The big cry baby just won americas got talent... Eli Mattson is soooo hot and 300 times better than Neil. It is the biggest upset since the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the world series. I am boycotting Americas Got Talent next season.... he is such a BIG cry baby and can only sing OPERA!!! That is sooo last year. I am just flabergasted!!!!!

rmj Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 04:48 PM EST

Nuttin but Stringz are the only competitors who actually compose (write) their own music that they've
used during the entire competition and auditions.
For me, that makes them worthy of the final prize.

becky loudermilk Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:44 PM EST

i think you people should stop complaining.. i don't see you up there. at least these people tried.

Phila. Soft Pretzel Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 07:06 PM EST

Mary, Mary , Because your attracted to Donald's good looks, along with many other female viewers, you can't objectively judge or critique his singing skills.
The 47 year female blues singer and the 40 something Donald were both eliminated by the judges soley because of age discrimination. However Donald was given a second by the voting public.

MaryE Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 10:32 PM EST

Phila, guess what, most t.v.'s come with a remote control. If you don't like the show, turn the station. As for me,I will vote for Donald, and hope that he wins.

Phila. Soft Pretzel Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 03:41 PM EST

NBS is minor key playing garbage. Eli Mattson plays piano well but has cruise ship quality voice. Donald Braswell is ten steps below a Robert Goulette quality voice. Neal Boyd would be one of the first to be eliminated in any opera singing tryouts. Queen Emily would be second string in any gospel singing church choir.
Guess what! The judges and the voting audience blew it this year.

smartalec44 Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Can you see Neal Boyd and Katharine Mcphee doing a duet for the Burger King commercial. Two sub par singers who together create wonderful music. Katharine needs more than one whopper to put some weight back on her karen Carpenter frame and Neil needs a small salad with water. Andrea Bocelli would probably be jealous.

MaryE Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 10:42 PM EST

Jim in BR. I couldn't have said it any better. Thanks for your post.My vote is for Donald Braswell,he has such a pure voice,I love to hear him sing.

Haelynn Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 11:22 PM EST

Nuttin but Strings rocks and should win no doubt about it. They have what it takes to win! Good luck Strings!

Janet Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:55 PM EST

I love Donald. He is a class act. I can't wait to hear him sing next week and I hope he wins. But NBStrings -- those guys are amazing and I wouldn't mind it if they win. Please not Emily - have had enough of the cry babies!!!!!!!!!.

kathy Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

My vote is for Nuttin but Stringz; they are unique and that's what the show is about. The can do so much and one could be entertained for an hour; it has plenty of variety which is what you want in Vegas.

kathy Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

Jim in BR Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:05 PM EST

Wow, before reading all the previous posts I never realized how venomous fans of this show have gotten. Now though, after reading crack after nasty crack about contestants' weight; hairlines, hair colors, and and hair styles; backgrounds; heritage; parents; tendencies to cry; and sheer lack of talent, I've realized something: America's Got Cruelty.
. . .
This is supposed to be entertainment, guys. If the show causes such a violent reaction in your gut that you feel the need publish your seething rancor for a contestant then turn the channel and do something else with your time. At the very least, write about what you like, not what you hate. Shame on you.

Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 07:11 PM EST

I just Neal Boyd voice. Everytime I hear him sing he brings me into the music and his voice. I would to hear him sing Phantom of the Opera!!. I believe he has what it takes to be the next America's Got Talent Winner. I would go see him in Vegas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kitty Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 05:28 PM EST

I would be OK if either Donald or NBS or Eli win. IMHO, Donald is the best voice in the competition, not Neal, and I am an opera fan, have been for years and years.

To those who don't know opera or those whose only exposure to opera came from popera (like Il Divo, Bocelli, etc) and who are not used to the beauty of an operatic voice, Neal sounds great.
From a perspective of an opera fan, who has heard many great tenors, Neal is OK, but not great, and needs more training. The only opera aria he sang so far was Nessun Dorma, and the way he sang it wouldn't get him past round one in any serious operatic competition. He does have talent and certainly belongs in top 5, but to win - I am not sure.

Cindy Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 03:52 PM EST

To: Smoochie, Steve, Tubby O’Lard and Blubbering McFats – or whomever left the last message for me. This is the last thing I have to say about your discrimination against and disdain for overweight contestants on America’s Got Talent. Why do you think a person’s weight has anything to do with their talent? What does their cause of death have anything to do with their talent? That’s like saying a person with a big nose is too ugly to be a singer – wow, Barbra Streisand you better watch out. John Candy died of a heart attack. He was young and fat. John Ritter died of a heart attack. He was young and thin. Luciano Pavarotti died or kidney failure due to pancreatic cancer. So what’s that got to do with anything? I guess he should have never become the famous opera star he was because he was heavy too. Your prejudices are totally unfounded and you need to back off. You go eat something.

Leti Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

I love Neal. His strong voice makes me cry joy and I feel his mother's happiness. How proud she must be. I am voting for him and he'll be my favorite all the way!!!!

To Cindy Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 02:11 PM EST

And they were all talented!!! By the way, what did John Candy die young from.? What did you say? My comment was that folks who are voting for them are patronizing them. I am sticking with it!!! Why else would they keep blubbering and repeating the sob stories. Go eat some more.

Marilyn Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 02:10 PM EST

How I see it:
Too many tears - Queen Emily
Good effort - Paul Salos
Nice voice - Eli
Just toooooo young for Vagas - Kaitlyn
Has voice & heart - Donald
Good voice - Neal
The Winner of Americas Got Talent is -Nuttin but Stringz

Louise Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

My vote is for Nuttin But Stringz. They are talented and original. Kaitlyn at four years of age should be singing in pre-school shows and for her family and friends. Too young to really know what it is all about.

C1259 Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 01:05 PM EST

Bro.Dave- Jessica's song was Angel by Sarah McLachlan. I don't know if she actually wrote it, but she recorded it.
I think they got it right for the
final 5. Kaitlyn is cute as a button & talented for a 4 yr old, but not for Las Vegas. There are enough Sinatra & Elvis acts already. The Wright kids would be great for Disneyworld or Branson, but not Vegas. And Jessica just needs more time.
My votes will go to Neal Boyd or Nuttin But Stringz.

Where is the 'BONES' Tv Watch?!!? Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

Not even a mini?? Seriously??

Oliver Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

A las Vegas act is a tough job, and the child act is to much for them. It robs them from their childhood and as children grow, they loose their cuteness, and possible interest (ex Kathlyn)

sara Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 10:47 AM EST

Kaitlyn's parents should be arrested. Wonder if they will actually let her go to pre-school now, or if they'll just continue to make her pay the family bills. sickening.

Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 09:54 AM EST

I've watched every season and this one is pure @#!$ (excrement). I blame the fact that they want to sustain a series and dont always necessarily pick the best talent because if they did, who will they pick next time/year; mediocrity will definately ruin the show.

Cindy Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 09:33 AM EST

Shame on you people who chastise Neal Boyd and Queen Emily on their size. This is a talent contest, not a beauty pageant. There have been many talented and entertaining performers and celebrities who are/were large and I believe the world is a better place because of them. For instance: Luciano Pavarotti, John Candy, John Goodman, Aretha Franklin, Nikki Blonski, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, America Ferrara, John Belushi, Chubby Checker, Elvis in his later years, Luther Vandross, Orson Wells, Chris Farley, Jackie Gleason, the list goes on and on. I really feel that Neal Boyd deserves to win this competition because of his talent, despite what the shallow, narrow-minded cretins who posted negative comments about him and Q.Emily say.

Real Music Fan Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:59 AM EST

I met all of the acts this week in person, Eli,Donald, and Nuttin but Strings are class acts. Very very nice people. Emily &Neal, really cocky attitudes, Emily not very personable, Neal acted like he already has it wrapped up. Both of them are still in because of the "tears", For the money round, go with Nuttin but Strings or Eli....Very good and deserving people who are unassuming and genuine.

Gerri Orlando Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:56 AM EST

Please..Queen Emily is so AVERAGE.
Its hard..I love Eli Matson..hes fresh and new..or Donald Braswell..
Feel bad for Kaitlyn..but her parents are pushing too hard.Vegas has no place for a 4 year old. This is a great show!

angie b Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:23 AM EST

I was ok with the decision to let Kaitlyn out, But we will no doubt see her again in the future. she is a very talented young lady to remember all the words to those songs. I wish her well and hope her parents keep working with her. Her voice is still young, but she has potential.Good luck toher and her family.

Judy 2 Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 08:06 AM EST

I think the right 5 were put through, as least given the options. Kaitlyn is undeniably adorable but she is a long way from America's most talented singer, even for her age. I immediately played Jennifer Hudson's "And I Am Telling You" for my husband to show him how average Queen Emily actually is. He was blown away by JH and said it was time for Emily to go. I have liked Nuttin But Stringz right from the first time I saw them. I hope they win!

Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 06:57 AM EST

I was sort of disappointed with whoever was coaching the Wright kids on song selections. I wish they could have got to show just how talented they really are. The little girl (Sage) not only plays the mandolin very well but also has a beautiful singing voice and takes first place on fiddle. Her brother (Barauch) also places high in Guitar competitions. If you would like to hear more from the kids, go to their web site thewrightkids.com and listen to clips from there CD in the MP3s section.

Cynthia Rodgiguez Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 05:21 AM EST

Top 5 revealed: Nuttin but Stringz, Neal E. Boyd, Crocodile Tears Emily, Eli Matson, and D. Braswell. Good riddance Jessica Price. Why was she even in top 10? That girl CANNOT sing and she always looks frightened. If I were to bet on 2 horses, I'd put the money on Neal E. Boyd and Nuttin' but Stringz. Please don't let it be the big lady who likes to shed crocodile tears. She's nothing special. You can find that talent in every church!!!

Melanie Bryant Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 02:44 AM EST

Kaitlyn is cute but her parents are trying too hard to promote her. A four year old can't compete with adults. Nuttin but Strings gets my vote to win the show. First class talent.

I have to agree with bojangles Kaitlan is acutie but she coould use some singing lessons. As for the other acts the singers are very good. One is better the other however,Nuttin but strings should win the whole shabang!

Randy Big Unit Johnson Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 10:36 PM EST

I hope the Welfare Mother Emily doesn't make it to the top 5. She is mediocre at best. The only time she sounded good was last night - but then again any big black belter can sing that: Jennifer Holiday, Jennifer Hudson and that big girl on American Idol. So what else is new?

bojangles Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

How can you morons compare Kaitlyn to Shirley Temple. Kaitlyn is certainly Cute, butr she cannot carry a tune. Shirley could sing beautifully and she could DANCE, and act too. When I was four, I was helping my mom fill her bag of cotton.

C Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 08:51 PM EST

enough with the singers already, haven't we had enough of that with american idol, I think nuttin but strings is a very unique and very entertaining talent, I pick then right from the very first show, I think they could put on an awesome show in vegas or on tour. I woukd love to see them perform.

Would have loved to hear Frank Sinatra in his younger years when his voice was still great. Always wondered when we would see another Shirley Temple. Neal belongs on the Opera stage. The other fella belongs on Broadway. The other singers would have been eliminated on Idol months ago. Strings should win. I would pay money to see the break dancers or baton twirller in Las Vegas. What happened to the fun talent?

judy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 08:27 PM EST

Thank you Chip! Those were the 5 I thought should go through.

Missedit Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 08:26 PM EST

For those of us who missed it...who was up against who in the pair ups ?

Chip Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 08:11 PM EST

Eli, Neal E., Queen Emily, Nuttin but Stringz, Donald Braswell

Judy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 08:06 PM EST

Who are the top 5? It was listed wrong in the tv listing so I missed it!

Fergus Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:59 PM EST

I mist the show tonight - who are the top five, please?

Dan Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:57 PM EST

I missed the show while driving, please tell me the results

to MS Daisy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

Those folks had TALENT. That is why you never saw them on the Gong Show or Queen for a Day. Gotta go.

Concerned Citizen Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

it's so obvious who the judges favor in this show (neal!) and it's not fair to the other acts. honestly, i was not a big fan of donald braswell in the beginning, but after he was voted back in, i became a big fan. in reality, he and shequida are the two best opera singers in this competition.

dan Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:53 PM EST

who were final five?

Marylou Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:52 PM EST

The 4 year old girl she was great for her age she never made a mistake with her words she was like Shirley Temple who was only 3 years old and she became America sweetheart little kids needs kids that age not Hannah M. she is to old for little kids. Kaitlyn Maher she become another Shirley Temple for little kids like her.

MsDaisy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:51 PM EST

smoochie, you are so right on...no one ever paid good money to see Pavarotti or Aretha Franklin or Barry White.

smoochie Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:44 PM EST

OOPS, I FAT fingered that one (lol). Patronizes.

Smoochie to Steve Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:42 PM EST

Almost my exact thoughts. Except when I see Neal and the other "large" folks I wonder why the audience patronozes them by convincing themselves that they would pay to see these folks, when if that were true, they wouldn't need to be on a show like this. They are not that talented. Just obese and unhealthy. I stopped watching 2 weeks ago. Sorry folks.

kathy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:41 PM EST

i am really upset with the results tonight they picked the wrong top five, i would never go to vegas and watch any of the five that were picked tonight. the elvis, Kaitlyn, paul and jessica along with the Nuttin' but Stringz shopuld of been the TOP FIVE i am not going to watch any more this season.

Crystal Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:35 PM EST

I see how it is,too old or too young to go to Vegas.Paul and Katlyn never really stood a real chance at winning! So much for watching the next season. This reality show needs to get real!

Steve Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:17 PM EST

Sonia Portugal, you are an idiot. Watching Springer on this show is like watch my old Aunt Martha passing a kidney stone mugging into the camera on the sidelines while these talentless fops try to get their 15 seconds of fame. You've got to get out more often.

Tubby O Lard Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

My favorite is Neal E boyd. Like me, he hasn't seen his genitals in years. My second fave is Queen Emily. She blubbers almost as much as Neal.

ROBERT BARRON Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 07:00 PM EST

I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ELI SING CANDLE IN THE WIND. BY ELTON JOHN.

Jeannie Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

Oh yea...like I'm going to Vegas and pay an average of $75 for a ticket to hear a 4 year old girl sing for 90 minutes on stage in one of the casino theaters .get real America!

shirley Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

Since America has enjoyed the talent show for all these weeks. Why not have a weekly show of talents to perform. Like in the old days, the Ed Sullivan show, Amateur Hour etc., it is the real realty show. I enjoy seeing people perform and most of the viewing audience does also. We don't have to vote, just watch and enjoy.

sonia portugal Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

I like Jerry Springer as the host of America's Got Talent. He's upbeat, energetic and his enthusiasm is contagious. I would not like a someone hosting this type of show who would be looking uninterested and not into it. More power to the show and to Jerry.
Tks for letting us write our opinion here :O)!

GeeJay Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 05:04 PM EST

I have nothing against Kaitlyn, but last time I checked, being cute is not a talent. Also, during the prelims, the judges said they're not sure a kid could handle Vegas and thus eliminated the other kids which IMHO are more talented than Kaitlyn.

Blubbering Mc Fats Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

Neal and the Queen should enter an eating contest. They hurt my ears. kaitlyn's parents need to get jobs and stop Jon Beneting her. The others are pretty sad. Just what Vegas needs, another awful Elvus impersonator.

Bro.Dave Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

Does anyone know the name of the song Jessica Price sang and who wrote it?

Neal Boyd is definitely my first choice. His voice is awesome. He seems like such a nice person. Visit his website at www.nealboyd.com to learn more about him.

jujube Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 04:44 PM EST

America may have talent but it is not on this show. Awful. Awful. Awful. I wouldn't pay 2cents to see any of these mediocre folks. And Hoff is a drunk pig.

Terri Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 04:41 PM EST

Neal E. Boyd is AWESOME! I get goosebumps everytime I hear him sing!

GO NEALLLLL

Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 04:24 PM EST

Queen Emily is just amazing.I know this dream will come true for her! I have directed many musicals and she would be the top soloist in my show.
Sam

john Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:57 PM EST

a vegas show for a 4-year old would keep her up past her bedtime and the last thing vegas needs is another elvis impersonator; am liking eli especially if he can write his own songs (those days bernie and elton aren't available to collaborate) though not as a vegas headliner but a recording artist

Jack Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

COME ON KAITLYN MAHER! Shes so cute and her singing is amazing. Just think what you were like when you were 4. SHES AMAZING. VOTE KAITLYN MAHER. KAITLYN 2 WIN. SHES AN ANGEL :)

I gotta say that the comment about having already American Idol for singers is spot on. Why choose more singers in a different talent show?
It is obvious now that the show is becoming way too predictable. For example, I laugh at the dance goups that try out for the show thinking that they actually have a chance to win. When every viewer knows that the show favors singers. Also, could you set limits on how many dancers should be on stage? It's ridiculous to fill the stage with so many dancers. Strenth in numbers do not always apply.
Here are some predictable aspects that future contestants should be aware of: Magicians, impersonators, dancers, fire eaters, swordswallowers, martial artist, tumblers, , acts with animals, transexuals, will never win the show.
What wins? Singers. And anything that involves playing music. So for all you future contestants, If your not involved in making music, your chances are slim to none.
And who really believes in the phone votes? C'mon.

Stephani T. You are verrrrrry close. Scratch Neal add jessica. Don't count on Elvis "Goin' Home" tonight.

Denise Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

The most unique and mesmorizing act I have seen in a long time
"NUTTIN BUT STRINGZ"
ONE WORD: AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Stephanie T. Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:34 PM EST

I suspect the top five will be the following:

Eli Mattson
Queen Emily
Donald Braswell
Neal Boyd (even though he sang a wrong key last night)
Nothin But Stringz

I agree with kay, katlyn is the cutest thing and she sings beautifully for a four year old, she desevers to go through, simply for her courage, she remembers all the words, she's never nervous, and at four she knows what she want and besides, can any of you people sing before a crowd like that? can any of you people sing? I love her but, my vote is for eli, he moves me every time he performs. I lke his style and who cares if he has hair, does that really matter?

Baby Laura Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

to Spoiler: I cry Beee-esss.
Strings will be there instead of Elvis. Do not weep for Joseph, he is a lock to get a Vegas gig.

Final 5 (take this to the bank)
Donald, Q.Emily, Eli, Jessica,Joseph.
No nuttin' No Neal E No Kaitlin let the tears flow

Billy Bob Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Thanks Cindy. Charlie Daniels is Fiddle God and Doug Kershaw is the Cajun version of the Fiddle God. I can't imagine Nuttin but strings doing The devil went down to georgia like Charlie or Cajun Joe like Doug. Or Orange Blossom Special by either.
A Nuttin album would be painful unless they learn actual "songs". Charlie and Doug also have great voices.

Janice Kucera Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:19 PM EST

Joseph Hall has got it all! WOW, What a performer with charisma, good moves, GREAT voice, handsome and so nice. I wouldn't walk across the street to see any of the others much less than listen to them for an hour & a half! Ugh!

elle Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:16 PM EST

I can't believe the judges on this show. They made the same comments about every performer - "you made the song your own", etc. I don't know how they got picked - who are they to judge what's talent? They raved over Jessica - if this was her "best" performance I'm glad I missed the rest.

Tiger Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:12 PM EST

Wait a minute, he may resemble 3 of me but not one of me. If he wins he will be given a membership in MECCAS
(Multi Ethnic Champions Celebrities and Singers). or BFATS. Go Neal

Cindy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

To Billybob. OK I stand corrected. I meant to say "We don't need another country singer" (blond or otherwise)LOL. I do agree that the songs Nuttin But Stringz plays all sound the same. And they do seem like they have an attitude. I love Charlie Daniels' fiddlin' however.

Billybob Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:02 PM EST

Without his hat, Neal E. Looks like Tiger Woods. Good thing Tiger plays Golf regular and exercises or he would probably look like Neal. Hmmmm!!Wonder if Tiger can sing???

Nonnie Mus Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

Anyone else notice Elvis' chubby - besides my wife and, apparently, Sharon?

If Nuttin' but Stringz has or makes an album, I am going to buy it. Nuff said!

Ms. V Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

I can't believe Kaitlyn has made it this far. I'm tired of the tears also by the other contestants. Nuttin' but Stringz should win! C'on, listen to their story, raised in NY by a single mom, playing violins!!! BTY- black males!! very impresssive, and I would pay to see them. They deserve it, and their act is awesome!
Queen Em is good as well as Neal, Eli, and what's her name from Michigan~(Jessica, I think)but Donald needs to go home and take Pops Sinatra with him. As far as Joseph Hall, ELVIS LIVES.. now for the Wright Kids, cute at the fair or Disney. E'nuff said...

Baby Laura Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 02:56 PM EST

Eli has no hair issues (hope this comes through:

Go Eli Win!!!!!!!!

Jessica bugs me with the woe is me crap. Yea, her dad left, but hers isn't the first nor will it be the last.

Kaitlyn should not have to face the audience, if she isn't voted through, I hope the producers state that she isn't feeling well or whatever they wish to say and don't make her stand on the stage....I agree she shouldn't have made it THIS far.

I love Eli Mattson and Queen Emily and they will go far....but

My vote is Nuttin but Stringz...a couple of refreshing young men with a lot of talent.

Billybob Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

To Cindy. We DO need another Blond Country singer. Old school singers are all brunette or redheaded. New school Country Singer girls are all blond. Jus' the way it is.

Billybob Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 02:45 PM EST

I'm am the Grinch, I suppose. Kaitlin cannnot sing. She is adorable just like all of my children (they can't sing either). Who is voting for this child???? Nuttin but strings plays their own music so you can't tell it is the SAME song every time-I am a fiddler, I know. Let them play something from Doug Kershaw or Charlie Daniels then we can see if they really have talent. Don't be surprised if it is between Elvis and Piano man.

Cindy Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

I hope the following contestants are gone by the next round: Kaitlyn Mayer (cuteness alone does not deserve $1million); Jessica Price (we don't need another blonde country singer); Paul Salos (a weak-voiced Sinatra wanna-be); Wright Kids (Very annoying, good act for Branson, MO); Eli Matson (I just don't like his singing).

Neal Boyd is my choice. He has a beautiful operatic voice which he applies to both opera and pop. He truly deserves to win.

Rach Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 02:40 PM EST

my fave is neal e. boyd. kaitlyn, give up and go home.
