'Date Night' with Tina Fey and Steve Carell: Gonna score?

Feycarell_l I'm already envisioning 30 Rock's Tina Fey and The Office's Steve Carell (pictured) "hosting" a night of programming on NBC — or "plugging their new film Date Night"— but they're both so likable, I'll forgive them.

According to Variety, Carell and Fey are set to shoot the big-screen comedy Date Night next year, and the story "follows a couple who find their routine date night becomes much more than just dinner and a movie." Director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) tells the trade he wants to do a "relatable, grounded character comedy about marriage and the lengths we go to preserve the spark."

On paper, I'm there opening night. What about you?

I Love both Tina Fey and Steve Carell so I am soooo going to watch that movie as soon as it comes out! They will make the best couple ever and I just know it will be extremely funny!

Tim Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 06:45 PM EST

Can't wait. Tina is my favorite Sandwich Girl on tv!

Raven_Moon Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 05:44 PM EST

Tina Fey. Steve Carell. I'm so there.

Liz Lemon alone makes this must see! Add Carell and you've got cloud 9. I'll have to echo the thought that I would rather see them in material Fey wrote herself. But, I guess writing 20 eps of a tv show every year doesn't leave a lot of material left for a movie. Oh well, I would watch those two read a phone book. (sadly, that would still be funnier than half the movies that come out now)

I think Shawn Levy and his casting director took this idea out of my (up until this point) fantastical pop culture dreams. My only question is why hasn't someone put these two together BEFORE?!?

sounds cute...I'll go, i'll go, i'll go, i'll go...

I may spontaneously combust! have they cast the necessary friends. I'm thinking Paul Rudd needs to show up at some point.

Cassie Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 09:33 AM EST

I was there after Tina Fey and Steve Carell!

NineDaves.com Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:34 AM EST

this worries me. they're such great writers, i almost wish they were writing the movie together. tina fey is best with her own material. see 30 rock or mean girls verses baby mama.

Ceballos Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:22 AM EST

The two leads from my two favorite sitcoms in the same movie? I HAVE to check this out.

Julie Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:21 AM EST

No way they will clash comedically. Steve Carell is an extremely generous actor (all of his co stars have said it one way or another) and Tina Fey knows about ensembles. This looks like it might be really good.

Snarf Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:10 AM EST

So there too.

Tom Brazelton Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 08:08 AM EST

My only reservation is that it's directed by Shawn Levy. Beyond that, it's all up to Fey and Carrell to have chemistry. Is it possible that their comedic talents might work against each other?

b0bbyr0we Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 07:35 AM EST

So there.

LizetM Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 07:12 AM EST

Really? This is too good be true! I'm so there as well. :D
