However, I was utterly disappointed by the reporter’s deliberate and ill-intended assertion that “it’s always Halloween” in Michael Jackson’s family. Although the ill-wishers are bent on depicting the King of Pop in bad light, ironically, they just don’t seem to get over him and they are forever searching for news about him. I spent the last one month, from the day Michael turned 50, watching his beautiful videos of unprecedented creativity. His 1993 interview with Oprah Winfrey and the song "Will You Be There" brought to life wonderful memories and brought tears to my eyes.

At 50, he still remains the sweet, warm gentleman with a soft voice that comes alive on stage. With beautiful eyes and a gorgeous smile that mesmirises forever he is indeed an awesome instrument of nature! NOTHING and NOTHING will ever obscure the beautiful image of Michael I carry in my heart!

Michael, I trust you had a wonderful birthday surrounded by your children and knowing there are millions out here who will always be there for you. We look forward to seeing you on stage because thats where you belong!

I was 16 and doing my Grade 12 at a Zambian High School in Africa when I first saw the Thriller Album Cover. His beautiful eyes and smile dazzled and mesmerised, and that marked the begining of an affection that no bad picture will ever obscure. Never mind his 'aging appearance',in my mind Michael Jackson still remains the handsome young man I saw 25 years ago!

I am a lifelong Michael Jackson fan but I must say that my favorite MJ moments were when he was part of the Jackson 5. I know my age is showing but I was there from the beginning. We're talking "Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5". When the J5 were going to be on television it was all anybody could talk about. The anticipation was incredible. When the J5 used to perform Dancing Machine and Michael would come out of one of his trademark spins and go right into the Robot, it was OVER. Nobody did the Robot like MJ. And the ABC album by the J5 is still the bomb almost 40 years later!!! When the tabloid stories get too bizarre I like to remember MJ as he was with the J5. Happy Belated B'day Michael!

for a musician to have the army running behind them is simply amazing, it just showed his power over the world, and the way in which he affected peoples emotions. I was too young to go to his concert in singapore as i was only baby... but man would i pay to go a see one today ...

Ilooooove Michael Jackson and I am only 16. My first moment was when I you tubed him and wathched him singing Ben in his yellow suit and huge tie. I called my mom cause I couldn'y belive how talented he was and normal looking. Even cute. Ever since then I have been captivated by him the Jackson 5 and Janet. I know basically all their songs and get so excited when I hear them. I wish the tabloids sowed all the kind things he has done for children and didn't focus on his face or skin. My only really vivid MJ memory is of watching "Captain Io" aT Disney World back in '89. First 3-D movie I ever saw. Good times.
I was a kid in the late '80s/ early '90s, back when you couldn't turn on the radio or MTV without hearing or seeing Michael. (Yes, kiddies, once upon a time MTV played music videos.) Whatever his personal troubles, I have to admit the man had some damn good songs--and videos. He gave us Reagan babies a cool soundtrack for our lives. Happy bday, Michael.

My fev. Michael moment? well it has to be in 1992 or 93, when i was 4 or 5 yrs old. i was back in my country(Ethiopia) and they showed BAD music video and that was the 1st time i actually sat infront of the tv and watched the whole thing. and after that day, i fell in love with him. i tried to imitate him wearing a torn glove and trying to dance like him...lol

He's been an inspiration to me and all people around the world.

Michael Jackson is a talent bar none. That is why it breaks my heart when I see him now, so broken and alienated.

I remember buying Off The Wall when it came out and playing it over again. It was so great that my parents didn't complain; I would catch them moving to the beat.

So many wonderful memories...it's impossible to choose a best song or a best video. I dare say that the man has been the most creative force in pop music entertainment in the past 100 years. Nobody even comes close. (Sorry, Madonna, but you rely on shock value to remain contemporary!)

Oh, Michael, how I wish your life hadn't taken such a sad turn. It's so weird to watch him now, with that strange face deformed by surgeries...

Everybody else after him has been an imitator. Just watch today's videos and you'll see. Michael set the bar.

The media have had no right to do what they have done to Michael, but he has come up stronger, millions of people love him for what he does, and in my estimation he is the best artist ever in recorded music and nobody will top him, that i think is a fact. According to my mother, the first song I learned to sing was "I wanna rock with you" and sang it constantly around the house as a kid. I, too, had a silver glove (my dad even made me a birthday cake in the shape of the glove), the t-shirts, even an MJ barbie doll, and basically idolized him in his early days. I was convinced I would marry him when I grew up. You can't deny his talent and his influence on music - even if he's turned into something of a freakshow these days. I prefer to remember him in the Thriller days. He was a-mazing.

I was in junior high (7th grade) when Thriller was released. We would gather in the empty field beside the school and do the entire dance sequence from the Thriller video. I also remember being glued to the TV when he won all of those Grammys and AMAs for Thriller.

I'd just like to say how great it is that finally, as MJ turns 50, people are talking about Michael Jackson in the way he deserves to be talked about - with love and admiration. Alot of people have disregarded his music in recent times in favour of sensationalist (and unfounded) negative media attention about his personal life.
To say Michael Jackson is the King of Pop is pretty much an understatement - the King of music and dance is more fitting.

Oh and my favourite MJ moment...probably seeing Thiller for the first time and desperately trying to learn the dance. Mind blowing.

Happy Birthday Michael Jackson. I hope you realise there is much admiration for you out there still.

after reading almost all the comments on this site, i couldn't close the window without leaving mine.

my first memory of michael jackson was probably when he did a world tour in the early 90s, probably 1990 with his double cd came out. since we didn't have music videos in the Philippines i was only able to appreciate his music through his cd. once you watch MJ perform in the stage, u'll understand why so many people around the world admires his talent and grace. forget his personal life, we're all weird in our own way, the tabloids just like to expose MJ because that's their business. aside from his personal agendas, i don't see anyone topping MJ. dood is amazing in all angles of music and dance, period.

I'm right with you, escargot. Saturday mornings, 9am on ABC. Loved it. Then one day I think they moved it to 8, and I missed it. I was devastated.

I won't deny that his life turned into a bit of a circus, but for the music and excitement he has given the world, I'll let him be a little out there. Anyway, the craziness all seems to go away when you put on one of his albums or watch one of his performances. Man! He is truly one of the best ever, and nothing--not Bubbles, not pajamas in the courtroom, not 3100 plastic surgeries--can erase that. Happy Birthday, Mike!

Marc - I, too, was 12 in 1983 and remember that Motown special performance. It shows why he was the biggest thing ever at that time. My favorite MJ memory comes from either later that year or early 1984 when my family got cable...the first thing we saw was "Thriller" on MTV. And that Halloween my dad hooked the doorbell to the stereo so when the trick-or-treaters rang, Vincent Price's laugh would ring out on the porch. Scared the bejesus out of some little kids. Good times.

I was a very little girl when Michael was in his heyday but I remember even then loving his music and his videos. My favorite Michael memory comes from watching Moonwalker over and over again. For anyone whose never seen it, it's sort of movie with Michael videos in it. It's where Smooth Criminal came from. Of course, Smooth Criminal was my favorite part. I have no interest in Michael today and can't separate the fact that he's a weirdo from his past (emphasis on the word) talent. That said, anytime a Michael song comes on, I am the first on the dance floor, and it alwasy make me feel 6 again.

Cinderella, Black and White debuted on Fox. So did Remember the Time. I remember when the video for "Bad" was scheuduled to premiere during a special on CBS. I was outside playing with a group of 10 friends or so and my mom came to the door and yelled "Hey, Bad is coming on!" Every kid out there took off for home. One girl who lived 2 blocks away begged to come in with us to watch it to make sure she wouldn't miss it. Aww, the days when Mike was a superstar and not a superjoke.

I loved Michael Jackson growing up. I know his life has been on a downward spiral for at least the last decade but I'll never forget the feeling of seeing him on tv when I was young, nor do I think I'll stop getting goosebumps when I hear the opening to Billie Jean.

Michael is the single most thrilling entertainer in history! No one has sold as many albums or has more fans or more devoted fans! I am so glad that people can finally focus on his amazing gift and give credit where it is due! He has impacted so many people world wide, I just wish the media would cover more of the positive things that he does so people would see what a truly wonderful person he really is instead of all the hype and tabloid trash.He is incredibly compassionate and cares about others and the world we live in, always doing his part to try to make the owrld a better place, but the media never lets that be seen. I loved Michael's early career, and I really remember watching "Thrilller" the video when I was seven and being freaked out and amazed by it at the same time. The opening bit with the werewolf movie terrified me, but I loved the zombie bit. His later career, however, was really weak, I think, compared to Off the Wall. Happy Birthday.

Marc, I was 17 when this was on, so you're not ready for a retirement home just yet. I remember that Halloween, being in the college dorms and gathering with what seemed like half the hall residents to watch the video for Thriller. My daughter recently went to a wedding reception where they did the dance from Thriller--well, some of the steps, anyway--which she ranked as one of the most fun moments.
