by the way, Madonna sux, Halle Berry sux and I am not a big fan of Cher if that says anything besides contradiction about my support, but out of all three, she is a superb actress. I don't understand why society puts age into perspective. Someone said Jolie (type-cast!) By the way, I think she might be a little younger than Bale. She just looks older from adopting too many kids! Also, the one who said there wasn't a justifiable Catwoman on the big screen, Pfeifer made me straight for about two hours. Hey, for the sake of sounding really crazy, if they're going to use a crazy lady in her 60's, why not Grace Jones?

I heard about this at work and had to search the internet and found the rumor to exist. Yes it is a rumor, but you know, Cher is an extremely great actress, and has many trophies to show for it. Silkwood, Witches of Eastwick, etc. She is a great character actor and I think it would be f@$#$% awesome to see her play a seriously messed up version of Catwoman. She is sexual, mysterious an just plain wacked out in a great way. Her features even make a great asset for the role. I want to see it happen! Catwoman has always been interpreted as a young and glamorous character, I think glamour will come from the actresses age and experience of screwed up men. After all, men are what made Catwoman who she is!

Cher would be the greatest most insightful pick for a character as Catwoman in a long time. She would more than likely garner an Oscar nod. I could clearly see her vamping it up. It would be such a unique twist to the newly revitalized series. GIVE THE ROLE TO HER. When I first heard the alleged rumor I was overwhelmed with excitment and I couldn't help but to babble the new found information despite the fact that it is apparently a rumor. Which is aggrivating to say the least. HOWEVER sometimes rumors can be true.. one can only hope this will be the case. The lines will be a mile long again if Nolan pulled an interesting stunt like this. Go for it Cher!

Catwoman has NOT been done properly in the movies yet! Her very human backstory is perfect for the setting. Catwoman is Batman's foil and needs to be close in age. She isn't a mentor, she is a dark mirror to him. Give me a good telling of her story with a younger actress. And make sure she can MEOW! My choice, if she must be older- is Angelina Jolie.

I don't understand what everyone has against Cher. If you don't like her, that's one thing, but I don't get the all out hatred. She would be an amazing Catwoman, she's not totally cliche and she's got the dark/mysterious thing going for her. She has had her share of plastic surgery, but she has always been honest about it and she is definitely not the only star in Hollywood who has been under the knife. I think people who talk about her being an "old hag" and "half plastic" just have a problem with the fact that she is 62 and still looks fabulous (and I guarantee you she doesn't owe it ALL to surgery). The fact that she is older shouldn't discredit everything she has done in her lifetime.

I stick with Marion Cotillard!
She would't be reprising the only role she does well (like Angelina or Beckinsale).
She would be doing something completly different, and it would also be a good oportunity to transform Catwoman in something more then a sexy thief. She could give the role some much needed depth.

And if they're not reinventing Catwoman in way that makes sense in Nolan's vision, then don't at all! So no Cher, because gradma Catwoman is already a bad idea, and Cher on it would make it completly cheesy.

Here's another vote for David Tennant as The Riddler. I have nothing against Johnny Depp and consider him a fine actor, but Tennant has the height, the build, the physical agility, the vocal skills - both in range and multiple convincing accents - and the acting chops to REALLY pull it off. for those of you unfamiliar with this actor who excels at playing the doctor in DOCTOR WHO, and is currently playing Hamlet to sell-out crowds in Stratford, imagine Jim Carey being totally calm and playing it straight, then going from 0 to 60 in a heartbeat. He's THAT good! PERFECT!

Actually, Batman is a pretty lame. Kudos to the current producers and directors that raised the bar to make it plausible enough to be entertaining and even nearly great. But no matter who they get to play what, chances are they wont be able to do it again. Its more likely that they'll produce some garbage that will make the current movie retroactively SUCK. Much like Highlander 2 ruined Highlander or the new Star Wars "Prequels" sullied the first Star Wars. Quit while you're ahead!

I personally think Cher would be fabulous as Catwoman. People need to understand that Nolan has a vision of what the character in his movie will be and that is a vamp in her twilight years. Yes, Cher is older but she would have to be the sexiest older Catwoman you could find. Cher still has the body of a woman in her 30s!

I think Cher ROCKS but I don't see her as Catwoman. Then again, Nolan has made some GREAT casting choices. I'd love, though, to see Angelina have a go at it. I am convinced she could pull it off. That said, Cher looks great!

This is the worst idea I have ever heard. The whole persona of Catwoman involves being sexy...Cher is way past that at 62...besides all of the plastic parts.

Earth to GeeMoney - Eartha Kitt sucked as the TV Catwoman. The episodes with her were complete channel changers! Maybe if there was a character called Black Cat, I can see. But, Hmm, Angelina Jolie or Jada P. Smith as Catwoman. Which would I pay to see...twice? Doesn't the presence of Morgan Freeman satisfy your quota??

I too am a fan of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, but forget him as the Penquin. This new Batman is toyally edgy and the villians have been coming from Arkham Asylum. Let's keep our villians looney. Therefore we should see what Hoffman can do with... THE VENTRILIQUIST! Anyone see the movie called "Magic"? Totally creepy puppet, which you were never sure if he was alive or not. Can you imagine a warped and sadistic crime lord made of wood, being helmed by the meekly twisted Hoffman? This could be some real good creepy fun. You need some muscle, so you can throw in some Killer Croc. There, you got yourself a blockbuster.
As for Cher, I've got mad love for her. But, Catwoman as a character is...well, she's dull and played out.

Thanks phlumper for backing up my Opinion.... With all due respect FLETCH.... Though Jack Nicholson's Joker Was really good if not a bit amusing it wasn't quite true to the comic book character. It reminded me more of the Joker protrayed by Cesar Romero (also very good) from the TV series. The reality is Ledger raised the bar and took the joker outside the box! As far as the popularity of my opinion...I think a box office record of over 300 millions speaks for its self.

The real subject here is should Cher be cast to play the role of Catwoman!

My opinion is NO

I like the 5 actresses I picked.

Seeing as how this franchise is focusing on Batman's beginning - his early years, it would make no sense for an older person to play Catwoman. I read where someone mentioned it would be cool to see an aging Catwoman. I agree with this thought but it would not work in this series. She needs to be played by a young actress.

Think about it. Robin isn't in it because according to the director, he's off in diapers somewhere. Batgirl appeared in The Dark Knight but as a little girl who won't grow into that character until much later.

Cher? If she's Catwoman, I'm out. It was bad enough putting up with the criminally miscast Maggie Gylenhall in the last one.
