Radiohead's 'House of Cards' video: No lights, no camera, 'action'

For Radiohead's new "House of Cards" video, 3-D plotting technologies reconstructed the geometry of Thom Yorke's face and the two directors' houses. Cameras and light are sooo June 2008, so they didn't use those things. The resulting laser-light show is exactly how I pictured "House of Cards" in my head. Ha! No. That was this. Anyway, even if the video's a little too Epcot Center's Journey Into Imagination for your tastes, it's a cool concept. Here's how they did it, and here's a Google Code page where you can shape-shift the video's data yourself. I don't see how your boss could catch you spending a half hour on this and not think you were being productive. Trip the light fantastic, below.

I only wish it was half as good as the original Journey into Imagination with Figment and Dreamfinder. But not a bad attempt overall.

Radiohead pushes the envelope on all things music and technology to give their fans greater and more diverse access (and even control) of their music. One example is their live Internet video studio shows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XN4EctlnTQ

As a map maker who uses GIS everyday, seeing this technology (it is LIDAR data) I was super excited... even more when it's from such an amazing band like Radiohead!!!

Patty, I think it's the hair. Seems like Thom's growing it out or something.

Is it just me, or does this image of thom yorke look vaguely (and disturbingly) similar to clay aiken?

Frakkin' awesome. Just blew my tiny little mind. Song is really eerie, too.

Awesome. I'll admit that I had more of a wife-swapping concept in my head for this video, but you know Radiohead doesn't tend to do the sex thing much in videos. And the disappearance of the high-tension towers is eerily similar to what I imagined hearing the line "infrastructure will collapse, voltage spike."
