Jul 25, 2008, 07:47 AM | by Nicole Sperling

Categories: Comic-Con 2008, Twilight

Stepheniemeyer_l Hello PopWatchers! Today was an epic 'Twilight' day. Not only did we get to see Bella and Edward in the flesh, along with the climactic ballet studio scene, but I had the wonderful opportunity to interview the one and only Stephenie Meyer (pictured). What a great woman. We chatted all things 'Twilight,' from her first reaction to the screaming Comic-Con fans to her thoughts of turning her beloved creation into a Hollywood movie. Click here to watch our four-part video series with Meyer, and be sure to post your comments below.

I would really love for her to do new moon through edwards point of view. sure it would be sad but at that time there was so much going on with the cullens that we don't know about.

suzie-q Wed, Aug 27, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

Stephenie Meyer is incredible. I love her books and I absolutely cannot wait for Breaking Dawn to come out (BooksOnBoard is giving
away the Breaking Dawn ebook for free at www.booksonboard.com ... I've already pre-ordered my copy! ) Stephenie is so humble and has created a beautiful series that never fails to enchant. Thank you Stephenie Meyer!

hey everybody!!!!!! i wish i could say i read all of your comments but i just dont have that kind of time. but for taylor and alicia - bella's car broke down, and jacob took off running. as for the whole friends thing, your guess is as good as mine. anyway, i must say i LOVE the whole twilight series and i cannot wait for breaking dawn which is only 1 day away!!!!!!!!!! ok, and im also a little obsessive, so y'all dont feel lonely.

samisam :) Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 11:39 AM EST

i can't wait for twilight or breaking dawn to come out. and lucky you if your b-days on the release of twilight or breaking dawn but mine's three days after. Though breaking dawn is like only four or five days away it feels like forever!!!
I would most likely not want new moon from Edward's perspective because it would be so sad like if it came out I would definetly read it and all but still I would end up crying like every five min. into it with how he feels without being with Bella and he had no one to comfort him he was all by himself. Though can't wait for Braeking Dawn it is totally going to be awesome!!! :) :) :)

Jennifer R. Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 07:20 PM EST

Hi, I love the series. Though the first book has been out for a while now I just started reading it this year during my freshman year of high school. I remember telling my friends to be quiet while I was reading, sometimes I would get pissed at them during lunch. It was funny, and I can't wait to go and buy your 4th book with my friends. Have a great week.

Taylor and Alicia Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 06:40 PM EST

We love your books they are amazing but We have a few questions for you:What happened to Bella's truck which made her accept the car from Edward?
What happened to Jacob?
Will Bella and Jake still be friends after she is a vampire?
We love you and you Rock!!!!!
CAn't wait for Breaking Dawn!!!!!

lola Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 11:08 AM EST

hey! samantha your birthday is really on the release date for breaking dawn?
mine too!go us! i also wanted to say thank you so much to stephenie meyer for writing these books!they are truly AMAZING!

Nicole Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 07:22 PM EST

I am very new to the series.... I bought all 3 books on a whim about 2 weeks ago ( accidentally ran across a youtube trailer when searching for something else, and I am married and 30, so out of the teen drama dept.) and I finished them in a matter of days.... no idea that I would find myself completely immersed and absorbed by Bella and Edward's romance. I am delighted that a film adaption has been made and I think all the actors chosen are completely perfect for their given roles. I am please that Ms. Meyer is so taken by the actors and their portrayal. We are in for a real treat!!!
Very little compares in great entertainment, than when great writing meets great acting! It is quite simple and so complex in its ability to create magic!!!

julie Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

i think the interview was great! i mean, i'm a poet and my family dose pretty much the same thing. and what she commented about the movie. i'm really gonna be looking forward to it! she is DEFENTLY the NEW J.K.R.! WAY TO GO STEPHENIE!!!!

samantha Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 06:42 PM EST

cont..they would really make great stories. i cant wait for the Breaking Dawn to come out. It releases on my birthday. thanks for picking the PERFECT release date! i really hope things work out for all 3 of them in the next book(edward, bella, and jacob) in my opinion, bella would be great with either one. i really cant pick one over the other. i do have one question i wish would be answered tho. i completely understand that werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies. they hate everything about eachother. but what would honestly happen if jacob, being a werewolf and all, was bitten by a vampire. i really wish i knew what would happen. maybe my question will be answered who knows. well great interview, cant wait for the one on monday. and what a great job picking the cast. that desserves a big pat on the back. cant wait for Breaking Dawn, Twilight the movie, AND Midnight Sun. we all thank you for writing to books Stephenie. We owe ya! and one more thanks to making to movie like the book

samantha Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

Thank you so much for the interview. it is nice to know that Stephenie is expecting the movie to be good. i was happy with the choices for the cast. i think they did very well. many people dont ssee robert pattinson as a very good edward but you must think of how hard it would be to choose an edward to make everyone happy when there is no one that would perfectly fit his inhumanly beauty. so i personally say job well done to the director. you may not have everyones support but you have many including mine. i am slightly disapointed that stephenie will only be doing one book in edwards perspective but then again i completely understand. if she changes her mind i would read the books but if she doesn't i wont be in a tizy. edwards perspective of new moon would be very depressing but we would love it just the same. i read the extras and it was sad, true, but i would love to hear more. i agree with the person before me. it would be nice to hear all the cullens stores more into detials

Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM EST

I personaly love the series as it is. The writing is superb and the message is wonderful. The only thing I would suggest is that each of the Cullens get a novella to tell their story. You know how they were before they transformed into vampires and how that change happened andhow they feel. Rosalie's, Jasper's, and Carlisle's stories have been told but what about Emmett, Alice and Esme don't they get to tell their story? (Granted Emmett's story is in the outtakes section for 'Twilght') I don't know I think that all of them could be published in an antholigy and that would sit nicly next to the rest of them.

chezni Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

Hey when is somebody going to post the clip for the extended ballet studio scene?

christina cullen Sat, Jul 26, 2008 at 06:51 AM EST

ok. the people below me that keep saying robert doesn't look like edward need to shut up.
everyone needs to understand that everyone has a diferent image of edward in their heads, and that the movie and the book are totally different things. these are actors. not the exact same characters from the book. so just at least be thankful that a movie is coming out and stop complaining!
PS im gonna be locked up in my room for at least 2 days reading BD!!

Karishma Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 08:13 PM EST

Also I think the casting was great and can't wait to see the movie!! It will be AWESOME!!!

Karishma Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 08:12 PM EST

I love the twilight saga!! Stephanie seems soo down-to-earth and has a great personality. I bet you anything I am going to cry when the series is over whether or not I like the ending or not... But there will still be Midnight Sun to look forward too and from EDWARD'S persepective! OMG I can't wait!!!!

Bella~Marie Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 06:33 PM EST

I don't know if I would want Stephenie to write the whole series from Edward's perspective. I mean, on one hand, it's Edward! I just can't have enough. But if New Moon made me cry, I can't imagine how depressing it would be from Edward's side!!!!!

7 more days!!!!!!!!!!!! wow that seems like a lot......

Kiersten Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 06:09 PM EST

I understand why Stephenie doesn't want to write the whole series from Edward's POV, but I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. I was really hoping she wouldn't stop at Midnight Sun. But whatever her decision, I'll have to be happy with it. I'm just content with how long this has already gone on! Twilight is my new favorite series and Steph is my favorite author. Usually I can be a little critical when it comes to books but I L-O-V-E the Twilight series!! Great cast for the movie! Stephenie's approval for both Breaking Dawn and the movie makes me even more excited! Great job Steph! Can't wait!

TerrifyingLittleMonster Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 03:59 PM EST

Stephenie's interviews were wonderful. Thank you for all the information. I can understand why you wouldn't want to experience New Moon through Edward's eyes...how painful! But I am curious about how he is able to deal with sitting out of the fight in Eclipse. It had to be torturous to know his family was fighting to protect his love, while he stayed behind. Thanks for the great insight into the casting as well.

emilycullen Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

omg! i looooooove stephenie meyer...she created my lovah! emmett cullen! u rok stephenie cant wait 4 BD!

Sarah Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

The player isn't loading for me, help!

<3TWILIGHT-SAGA Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

awww i love Stephenie Meyer she is really sweet. I can't wait, breaking dawn in 7 MORE DAYS YAYY. Kristen Stewart is so pretty and Robert Pattinson is so HOT.

elly Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 03:06 PM EST

I think it's ok that Stephenie's only doing Midnight Sun from Edward's pespective, I would totally love more just because it is Edward. But like she said she's only doing it to make Edward clearer in how he thinks and what he did in New Moon really ties into that. He really did think and hope that was the best way for Bella to have a normal life. And I kind of agree with Stephenie that it would be really deppressing to do the beginning of New Moon. I would read it of course, but I wouldn't be too thrilled with the tear-jerking first part.

J Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:56 PM EST

loved the interview! i need more!!!!! only about a week left til breaking dawn! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sofia Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:28 PM EST

Hi Stephenie!!! I went to the twilight movie website and saw the videos and can't wait until it comes out!!! your books are awesome and i can't wait for breaking dawn!!! Your my favorite author!!!

Brooke Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

Yeah I would aslo like to read from his perspective in New moon. You know why he left but his reasons just dont seem good enough.

Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:16 PM EST

I mean the longer I wait not the longer I hate.

Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:13 PM EST

I can't wait until Breaking Dawn comes out. The longer I hate the more obsessed I think I get. Also why does Midnight Sun have to be the only book in Edward's perspective. I would love to have all the books in his perspective. It would help us understand why he leaves in New Moon

Brooke Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:11 PM EST

So.... I have no idea whats coming out in breaking dawn but i really hope jacob finds somebody. But I want edward and bella to stay together too,im curious about how she sums it all up. Wish it wouldnt end though =( Il be sad when im done.

Kathy Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:09 PM EST

I teach in Labrador and will be using Twilight in my classroom. Not only is the writing superb, the overall message is wonderful. I know a lot of moms who have read and thoroughly enjoyed this series. I have given my students extra credit for their discussions and predictions about the whole series. (The Host was excellent as well!)

I_LOVE_EDWARD Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

i think that stephenie made a good choice with not writing the whole series in Edwards prospective because if she did first she would have to go through the writing with New Moon and that could depress not only Stephenie but other fans too i mean you see how Bella reacted to him leaving so picture that a million times over i mean depending on how much you love Edward is gonna tell you if you can get through that book in his prospective cause i know i love him so much that if just by reading all that torment that i would be crying the whole time and not even be able to finish reading the book but that also depends on how much of a sap you are and i'm a huge one XD i know you don't want the series to end and you want it to go on forever but they don't always do but if you don't want to listen to that make fan fiction after you read Breaking Dawn and even Midnight Sun and write what you think should come next if you're not good at that ask someone to do it for you just nothing ilegal k :)

Snarf Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

Since I've seen the trailer I visualize the charecters mush more...easily. I agree with the previous poster regarding Kellan - nailed it (pysically) for Emmett. Props to the casting director.

twilightaholic121 Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 01:52 PM EST

I seriously love Stephenie Meyer! This interview is so great, it just reinforces how passionate she is about her work. God i cant wait until Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun. OMG OMG OMG OMG.........

A HUGE Fan Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

I have to agree with most of the coments before mine: why does Midnight Sun have to be the only book from Edward's point of view? Both New Moon and Eclipse would be extremely inereting from Edward's view! So yeah, I really hope Stephenie Meyer changes he mind out that choice. About the other points of the videos, I love her choices with Rob, Kellen, and Kristen!

Marangely Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 01:23 PM EST

OMG!!! Thanks for the interview it did help a little my anxiousness for the book. It's true what Stephenie said about the characters Rob does look like a vampire, and Kirsten does look like Bella, and specially Kellan which looks how I imagined Emmett. Ah, another thing GO TEAM SWITZERLAND!!!

twilght Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 12:57 PM EST

omgg omgg omggg OMGGG im so exctied for the book this interview was great!!

except EXTREMLY depressing at times to find out that she will not be writing the whole "twilight" series over again in edwards point of veiw..i feel that she should because unlike what she said about how it would be too painful to write the second book in his perspective i think it would be an amzing experience and would help more people to side with edward and not jacob because then we could more clearly understand edwards reasons for leaving bella in the first place witch i dont think are ever clearly said in the book.. so i really hope that stephenie changes her mind and writes the books over again is edwards view!! it will give me something and alot of others to look forward to in the future!! reconsider! =]
<3

missreiter Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

AH! Can't wait 7 days. Tooo. Loong. But then again I'll be very, very sad when I am done. :( Btw, I am sooo glad that they kept Kellan. I love Stephenie even more now, if that is possible. 12/12 better come fast! Yay Twilight! (turning my nerd switch off)

aldercreek Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

To all of you who are craving new moon from Edwards point of view, go to Stephenie's website www.StephenieMeyer.com, she has a couple short stories posted that is the fateful phone call from both Edward's and Rosalie's point of view.

Carlie Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 12:27 PM EST

i agree. i really wanted to see edwards point of view for new moon, mostly because he wasnt in it like at all. i wanted to know more about what happend in italy. and what first went through his mind when he heard bella jumped off the cliff. i would really really really like to see that, although i am also looking forward to hearing his side of the story on when they were first together in biology. i think that will be very interesting. but his point of view in new moon, if that book was ever written, i do believe it will sell just as well as the other 5 books. i love stephenie meyer for bringing twilight into my life, and although my friends think im a little too obsessed i really cant help it. the characters are just so well put together and the plot is just so amazing. p.s bella can have edward i want emmett and his hugs (: what i would do for a friend who could give hugs like emmett. p.s.s BREAKING DAWN IN 7 DAYS! im so excited. thanks steph twilight is amazing

Teamedward Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 12:20 PM EST

Thanks for the interview EW and Stephenie Meyer. I got a few of my questions answered. I'm so excited for breaking dawn! Seven days and counting!

Amanda Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 11:40 AM EST

I am really sad that Mrs. Meyer confirmed that Midnight Sun will be the only version on Edwards point of veiw that we will get!! The book i was most interested in his point of view was New Moon! For me its like...who cares if i get physically ill because of how sad it is...edward has alot of explaining to do about things that stem from New Moon and Bella doesnt make him explain anything!! I love Stephenie and Edward and Bella and i dont want their story to end, so hopefully there will be enough ppl like me that keep asking for more of edwards point of view and maybe just maybe she will be willing to continue his books!
ps im going to flip out when breaking dawn comes out!!

Sarah*C Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

THANK YOU SO MUCH EW for posting that Stephenie Meyer interview! I would have quit my job here in Ohio to travel to San Deigo to go to the Comic-con if I didn't like being NOT poor so much.. lol

Team Switzerland Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

I think that Stephenie is doing great on her books. I love her website too. She is my favorite author and she desreves the best. I agree with her on Kristen and Rob. I didn't know about Kellan Lutz either, but he is totally hot! So is Rob Pattinson, Jackson Rathbone, Cam Gigandet, Peter Facinelli, the totally and absolutely sexy Taylor Lautner, and pretty much all of the rest of the guys in the cast!

Team Switzerland Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 11:11 AM EST

I think that Stephenie is a TOTAL Genius. I loved all of her books and it really hurts me too when someone hates Jacob. I LOVE Edward and I LOVE Jacob. Just like Stephenie I am Team Switzerland! Great interview!

Spunk R Rox my Sox 2 Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:58 AM EST

PS The cast is great. I was so sure about Nikki Reed as Rosalie but she has grown on me.
PSS Thanks to Summit Entertainment for bring the true story to the big screen!

Spunk R Rox My Sox Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

That was great thanks for the interview. I'm a big fan of the books! I've got EW's July 18 issue (I think it's the 18) and i've learned alot about Breaking Dawn and the movie. I also got penelope and that was a great sneak peak. The scene was very true to the book. I'm spending all my time on Stephenie's website it is great that she has that for the fans. I think we should give her husband and kids a big thanks for letting us take their wife and mother to us to give us the greatest story EVER! ONLY 7 MORE DAYS TILL BREAKING DAWN!!!

Jennie F Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:52 AM EST

I think that it was a great interview and I love the Kristen playing Bella i think they did a great job on that on and Rob is a good Edward too. And Kellan is a good Emmett they pick all great people to play the parts. I cant wait tell Breaking Dawn comes out..... I am a BIG FAN...

Kat~Cold One Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:45 AM EST

I was 3 rows form the stage and it was awesome!! They are all beautiful!! I was pretty mad about the one person that asked if they wore boxers or briefs and asked Kristen if she knew!? You could tell that Kristen was uncomfortable!! I felt bad!! That lady was rediculous!

Elizabeth Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:31 AM EST

I think Kellan was the only one that initially when I saw the cast I was excited about - the rest have grown on me.
I am bummed about that Midnight Sun will be the only one from Edward's point of view. As depressing as things maybe, it would be a great read.
I'm wondering if she would pick up stories about the others. We got little background information on everyone - how they became they way they were - but spinoff some folks. Ok, I'm being selfish...
Thanks Nicole for the interviews.

Hannah Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

I'm so glad that Stephenie is so pleased with how the book plays out. That's all I really wanted. I'm so reassured now that the book will be amazing. One week everybody!

CrookedSpunk/alba Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

It's only one out of four, so we'll have to stay tuned for the breaking Dawn stuff! GREAT INTERVIEW. Wow, Stephenie is just a totally awesome person, isn't she? I don't know her, but I'm pretty sure I love her. XD This is so great :D It's not often we hear Stephenie speak actuallt, and well, Stephenie speaking is the closest you can get to Twilight X).Thank you for this interview!

Twilight_Fanatic Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 10:02 AM EST

Kaitlyn S., she was going to reveal them on Monday. Not today.

Kaitlyn S. Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 09:09 AM EST

When I say questions I mean questions about the series people had. Wasn't she also going to reveal something from Breaking Dawn?

Kaitlyn S. Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 09:08 AM EST

I thought she was supposed to answer questions in this interview.
I am a little disappointed.

Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 09:04 AM EST

I love what she said about Kellan. Although I'm kind of surprised, in the book, Emmett is described as much larger and muscular than he looks in the previews, but I still think he will be great.

Nikki Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 09:03 AM EST

Great, great, great interview!!!! I am happy that Stephenie is so pleased with the movie. Anytime an author gives their stamp of approval on a film version of their work, you know it's going to be good!

ketra412 Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 08:37 AM EST

Very much looking forward to both BD and the theatric release of Twilight. Was personally thrilled with the reception Rob Pattinson got at ComicCon. I don't think a more perfect Edward could exist and after all of the negative reaction he received initially, it's time he received some of the adoration he so rightly reserves for being a fine young actor, a humble individual and well, just truly all around beautiful.

Twilight_Fanatic Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 07:44 AM EST

Stephenie Meyer is SOOOOOOOOO amazing!!!! Her books are all FANTASTIC!!!!!! The movie looks pretty good... but it will never compare with the books. I don't love Patterson playing Edward... but maybe when the movie comes out I will be surprised (I hope!).

Penny Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 07:44 AM EST

Nicole, what a great interview! Intelligent, relevant... I can't say enough.... what a treat! Thanks!

Melissa Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 07:36 AM EST

I know this is so not the point of this video, but I can't get over how fantastic she looks! She's always pretty, but she looks especially nice here. Mother of three, unbelievably prolific and successful author, AND super cute...you go, Stephenie!!!

Emzles Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 07:36 AM EST

Stephnie Meyer is truely incredible to have created a series so powerful and amazing. Thank you so much to EW for posting this for those of us who were unable to go because we live in Australia :( so jealous! But I can't wait for Breaking Dawn. Team Edward don't let me down!

Wicked Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 07:14 AM EST

She's amazing. And humble! I agree completely about Rob playing Edward. Surprisingly though, she said the exact opposite of what I thought about Kristen. Even though she's good actress, she's no where near how I pictured Bella. And so sounds nothing like the Bella in my head. But if Stephenie's satisfied then so am I!
