Happy 86th Birthday, Bea Arthur!

May 13, 2008, 09:09 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: Celebrity Birthdays

In honor of Bea's birthday, I'm wearing my favorite cowl neck sweater, watching this montage of her greatest moments from The Golden Girls' first two seasons, and virtually jumping into bed with her and Estelle Getty...

Is Dorothy your favorite Golden Girl? Or just the one you relate to most?

Happy birthday to Bea Arthur. I'll always love The golden girls, altough my favorite will always be Rose. But i love all the banter between Rose, Blanche and Dorothy, especially when talking about men.

I always liked Sophia best. I can probably relate to her most, as well, with all of her sarcastic one-liners. Dorothy was my least favorite character, but I don't think she was supposed to be likable. She kinda looked like an elderly man in drag.

Love Bea Arthur. Amazing woman and entertainer. Has done it all and very well. Acting, comedy and her singing, so unique in voice and style. I hope they honor her work now instead of posthumously. Whether, they do or not: She's the best. She did what she had to do to work and it paid off. Anything she did turned to gold. Midas touch!!!
Happy Birthday Bea, you've given us so much joy. Thanks. You're the best.

I'm definitely a Dorothy/Miranda... Just for the problems with finding men. She was the most grounded of the girls.

I think I identify with Dorothy way too much! I think my favorite Dorothy moment is when she dated a fake Beatle and tried to break up the fake Beatles.

Dorothy is my favorite Golden Girl ever and one of the best sitcom characters beyond that! Love you to death Bea!

Happy Birthday!

Sorry ... but when I think of Bea Arthur (which ain't often!) I think of her crooning in the cantina during the classic Star Wars Holiday Special.

I easily related to Dorothy's reactions to the shenanigans of the other three Golden Girls, but Rose was my favorite. Can't ever get enough St. Olaf (Olav?) stories.

I grew up watching Golden Girls. My parents would send us kids to our grandma's house--and it was her favorite show! In fact, even though my grandma is long gone, every now and then I catch a rerun of GG on lifetime and it reminds me of her. Bea was wonderful in that series. All four of those ladies are special.

Dorothy was always my favorite.

Happy Birthday Bea!!!

Oh yes, thinking back on it now, I definitely relate more to Dorothy than I do any of the other girls. I tend to be the sarcastic opinionated member of the group who tells it like it is. I also have a mother who is shorter than I am and likes to point out that I am still not married, though she thankfully doesn't call me Pussycat. I always rooted for Dorothy more than anyone else and was happy that she got a happy ending when the series came to a close. Plus, who didn't love to hear her sing?

My best friend in high school used to watcht his show all the time, Iw as always Blanche and she was Sophia, and we had a girl we knew who we dubbed Rose. None of us wanted to be Dorothy! It was a great show then and it's still a great show.

I'm watching Golden Girls right now at work (at a cable company)!! I love all of the girls, but relate most to Blanche. Happy Birthday to Bea!
