'The Bachelor': Bye-Bye, Ashlee! Hello, Kelly's Breasts!

Thebachelormatt_l What could possibly beat that human Muppet whose name I've already forgotten handing Matt a pair of her panties on Night 1? How about Kelly (pictured, right) opening up her dress and cupping her "very large breasts" during a conversation with Matt before last night's rose ceremony! Seriously, WHAT was that about? I guess when Matt told her that he wanted her to be as fun with him as she was around the other girls, that's all her tipsy mind could come up with. Classic.

So we know why Kelly didn't get a rose. I'm willing to bet that singer-songwriter-adequate tennis player Ashlee is gone because even though Matt found her voice "mesmerizing," the giggling after every sentence got to him. Also, judging from my own reaction, it was probably hard for him to sit through her rambling non-answer to his question about what she'd do in London if her music career didn't take off.

Holly also took the long limo ride home after her 2-on-1 date with Marshana. Like Shayne, I expected Holly to stay, but Matt made it clear that he and Holly didn't have the connection she thought they did —  he told her that he'd just found their timed conversation difficult to fill. (Tip: When someone says they like "challenging questions," try to come up with at least one.) I appreciate Matt's honesty, but now I'm dying to know if their 1-on-1 date last week had been that awkward.

After the jump, we size up the remaining six ladies.

Robin
Strengths Matt says they connect on multiple levels; has lived in England before and therefore slips into English accent as easily as Madonna; her parents love tea… a lot; can play the piano
Weaknesses Unless I'm mistaken, mispronounced Wimbledon as Wimbleton; sucks at tennis; sounds like she might still live with those parents; admits she doesn't know how to respect other women (unacceptable); cannot fake a smile but tries to

Shayne
Strengths Former gymnast, always good; confronts situations, like Robin stealing other women's time with Matt head on; has toned down the drama; is as cuddly as a teddy bear, apparently; deep down, you know you want Matt to meet her family so that we can see how dad Lorenzo Lamas handles the situation
Weaknesses The whole actress thing; hasn't said whether she's willing to move to London; could just be fulfilling Matt's "L.A. sex kitten" fantasy; being spoiled could be less amusing when he starts thinking long-term

Noelle
Strengths You can just tell that she's sweet, smart and sane; Matt said that Amanda was his ideal beauty, and well, Noelle looks the most like Amanda; no drama
Weaknesses Hasn't had much 1-on-1 time with Matt; all we've seen them connect on is their shared belief that they could connect; also sucked at tennis

Chelsea
Strengths According to Matt, she looks "ridiculously hot" even when wearing a ridiculous sweatband and sipping tea; appeals to his athletic side; won the group date rose again; makes Matt laugh; definitely won't change herself just to please a man
Weaknesses Got hustled by Shayne in the gymnastics competition on the group tennis date; hasn't had a 1-on-1 date with Matt yet; could have intimacy issues, if ruining the romance on her 1-on-1 next week by talking about how much she hates to hold hands is any indication; is she serious enough for Matt?

Marshana
Strengths Sound bites; has expressed her willingness to move to London; able to wow Matt with what looks like not that wow of a kiss; designs her own clothes (and Matt actually likes them); knows she's beautiful even when she has a busted lip from playing rugby
Weaknesses Doesn't handle stress well; her beauty pageant past makes you wonder if she's better at molding herself into what she thinks people want than just being herself; hasn't spent enough time with Matt for him (or us) to know whether their senses of humor and interests at all match

Amanda
Strengths Matt has said that she's the woman he'd have sketched if someone had told him to draw his ideal; has lived in England before, but doesn't feel the need to remind him of that constantly (Robin); is his age, 27; knew when to step it up and forgo the poodle skirt for the slutty Sandy look on her 1-on-1 '50s-themed date (but still didn't come off slutty); appears sharp and clever, and can make Matt laugh; likes to dance, which we know Matt enjoys
Weaknesses The meeps

So, which couple are you rooting for now? (I'm all for Matt and Amanda, but look forward to Chelsea and Matt's 1-on-1.) Do you think the off-camera producer asked Ashlee to leave us with a song ("I fear that I'll fall so hard, and you'll just break my heart") or that she thought of that herself? And what will Marshana and Chelsea's "most shocking confrontation in Bachelor history" be about next week?

Shel Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 08:56 AM EST

To Carli: How do you know what was said and what was cut in terms of Shayne's moving to London? Curious. I am actually liking Shayne more, too, though like Matt, I don't tend to forget things either. I think her drama is undercover right now, but she probably did that strategically. She aint dumb. I dont even mean drama in the typical "bad" way it is usually meant. I just think she is very high maintenance & there is drama in that. I am actually very impressed with her & the other women. In past seasons, she would have been the one who didnt know how to treat other women. I love that she champions the idea of "equal time" and has fought for it in nice ways (stealing Matt away from Robin for another girl) and in "just the girls" situations - she isnt doing it just to show/impress Matt, at least that we have seen. I am impressed with that. I do think Matt asks very astute questions and at this point, he is enjoying Shayne for what/who she is and will wait and see what happens next.

Shel Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 08:50 AM EST

Great recap. I am feeling pretty good so far about this season, because he keeps sending home the ones I hope he will! lol Not sure that has ever happened before. Ashlee had to go. Even despite those giggles you were talking about, I will never forget her lording it over the others when she got that rose (so middle school) and Matt doesnt seem the kind who forgets ANYTHING. BTW, I think that song snippet at the end was part of the one she wrote & sang for him earlier in the episode. I dont really get the connection he seems to have with Chelsea - have we really seen it? Tricky editing? But for what purpose then? I was stunned about Holly too, could SWEAR he spoke really glowingly after their 1-on-1 date. I have to admit feeling worried for her tho, because it seemed really unfair that he would pit a known 1-on-1 fave against someone who hadn't had any time yet. I agree with someone else who posted that he may have done it to protect Holly in the end.

Shayne is growing on me too, but I'm still pulling for Noelle and Amanda. Nice girls. Thank goodness Ashlee is gone!!

Carli Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

I just wanted to comment on one of the negatives on Shayne's list. She actually did tell Matt she would move to England, but it was cut.

karen Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 06:49 PM EST

Shayne is like the prettiest girl in the whole wide world... and she seems cool. I wouldn't mind hanging out w/ her or Chelsea. These are the best bachelorettes to date, ugh, remember that trashy Bevin and cold-as-ice Tessa?

Donna G Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

I don't know what y'all see in Amanda, those meeps are ridiculously put on. I get them bad sometimes and they won't go away but I don't sound like that...meep meep.. yuck! Shayne is a beautiful woman but I tend to think she's probably very high maintenance. She comes from a very well known celeb family so she's probably used to the high life. Robin has got to go, damn she's oooogly too!

c.h. Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:35 PM EST

i have been saying for weeks that shayne is the most mature woman in the group. finally people are starting to come around. she is the most real person there, maybe because the cameras don't make her change like some of the other girls. she is genuine and she is honest, even about her own faults (high maintenance, etc.) but she is being who she really is and that has to be commended in a show of competition rather then honesty. while i'm not sure she'll be the one in the end, she's been by far my favourite so far.

Dedee Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 02:22 PM EST

Amanda all the way. I liked her from the second she stepped out of the limo - just something about her. She was the first one out of the limo and the one to get the first rose.

Can't stand Robin. Maybe her catty ways are causing her to look more like 55 than 22. I think Marshana is acting. Also she looks like one of the girls from Girlfirends.

Elizabeth Kerri Mahon Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST

I too am impressed with Matt this year but that may just be because he reminds me of my best guy friend who is English. He seems to really be serious about finding love as opposed to how many girls he can make-out with. I think the drama between Chelsea and Marshana seems to deal with a comment Chelsea makes that Marshana calls racist but we'll see. I'm wondering if the previews are letting us know ahead of time who is getting booted off or is just a smokescreen. Personally I would be quite happy to see Robin go bye-bye, but I have a feeling the 4 girls/hometown dates will be Shayne, Robin, Amanda and Noelle. Although I would love to have seen Matt with Marshana on a hometown date.

Slezak's Stalker Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:44 PM EST

I honestly don't think he felt more for Marshana but instead knew that Holly wouldn't be picked over a couple of the other girls that he really is interested in. I think he just didn't want to lead her on any more than he had to so he let her go earlier.

Cara Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:34 PM EST

All right, confession. This isn't the way trash-TV watching is supposed to go, but I have to admit I am very impressed with Matt after this episode. Those were some extremely non-Bachelorbot questions he was asking at the end there! Plus he seems to be the first ever Bachelor with the Superman-esque ability to see through Bachelorette hotness and make-out-ability to actual future spouse potential. See: Ashlee, Holly.
Also, major kudos to him for picking Noelle again. If this had been any other season, she would have been gone SO long ago for the crime of not throwing herself headlong at him and/or exposing her breasts, but somehow Matt's still seeing the sweet, sane girl even through all the craziness.
I feel stupid even admitting it, but...I LIKE this guy!

Ms Daisy Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

Ashlee acted like she was 12 years old...was she the one wearing the black crew socks with her tennis whites? Kelly was definitely on the trashy side. Was Marshana trying out for "Disney princesses on ice" last night? Shayne looked much better with her hair done this week. I'm liking Noelle more and more...given her lack of screen time I have to think she's probably pretty normal and rational.

CanadiaNic Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 01:12 PM EST

I have to say I am digging Shayne a lot more, especially when she inadvertantly made Robin cry, and called Ashlee a baby. I hope that Robin stays around a bit longer so she can clash with the rest of the girls about her "britishness" and lack of experience with other women. Does anyone else find Robin really old looking or is it just me (seriously how is she 22)?

gtrgirl Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 12:42 PM EST

ok, i can't find any info online about this, but is marshana part Indian? As in from India since she loves to wear the clothes? I thought the lengha she wore on the first night was just a fluke, but was totally impressed last night that she was actually wearing the sari correctly AND had the matching jewelry to go with it... anyone know?

Sorella Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 12:40 PM EST

I like Amanda too, they're very natural together, seem like a good fit(from day 1, you could see the instant chemistry). I too think more of Shayne now, she's less bratty-spoilt-actressy than I originally thought (but for an "actress" her imitating Robyn's British accent was awful, no period pieces for her!). Noelle's under the radar now, but she will emerge, maybe a reason why we haven't seen so much of her, Matt is digging her more now I think. And my opinion of Matt grew tenfold when he booted Ashlee and Kelly!! Oh and does anyone think that Chelsea looks like a young Frances McDormand??!! She's very masculine I find. And Marshana, that kiss was yucky and she's a drama queen.

jes Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 12:40 PM EST

I also picked Amanda for the get go. I knew she'd get the 1st impression rose and I think she'll probably win Matt's heart. But I'd LOOOOVE for him to pick Chelsea. If he's as goofy as they made him out to be in the footage before he met the girls, she's perfect for him. I'm thinking the "I don't like to hold hands" line from next week, is faux drama from the producers. The next line was her calling him "buddy" and he thought that was hilarious.

Maybe Robin has the same affliction Britney Spears has, where her British alter ego pops out every now and then. And, yeah, Miss I Know All It About England...it's Wimble"D"on. Go drink some of your parent's fancy tea!!

gretchen Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:41 AM EST

my cable stopped right when matt and shayne were cuddling at the end. anyways, i love amanda - i think she is the most genuine. i agree about marshana - even SHE thought she was going home last night!! she had a friggin temper tantrum b/c she had to go on the date. boo hoo. i enjoy shayne more now as well - maybe she has seen how childish the women who are older than her are acting and didnt want to be like them in 5 years! i predict it will be b/w amanda and shayne at the end with amanda being the winner

paige Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:31 AM EST

No one has mentioned Marshana's temper tantrum when she threw all the spatulas!!! She's nuts

A Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

Lene- I have predicted the last few winners at the first moment too, scary! I picked Amanda this season, I think it will come down to her and Shayne. My opinion of her is much better now too!

Slezak's Stalker Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:25 AM EST

I agree about Shayne. I was kinda diggin her last night. She was very direct without being a total b*tch. I loved it when she told Robin "Dude, I didn't mean to make you cry." (or close to it) And her and Matt were totalling gazing into each others eyes there at their last kiss. That's a hard thing to hold unless you're genuinely having that "moment."

Lene Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:05 AM EST

If Amanda doesn't get the final rose, I'll eat my hat. Well, if I had a hat...

And if she does, it'll be the third time in a row I've picked the final "winner" at the moment they first met in episode 1. I'm not sure if I should brag about that or seek professional help...

jones Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:01 AM EST

Oops, I meant the drama between Chelsea and Marshana next week.

jones Tue, Apr 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM EST

I am glad that Ashlee (immature much?) and Kelly (trashy much?) got the boot last night. Holly seemed okay, but not the brighest bulb. I did feel bad for her b/c she seemed crushed. Robin is annoying and Marshana looks like drama next week.
I hate to say it, but Shayne grew on me last night when she directly confronted Robin. It also looks like she tries to break up the drama between Marshana and Chelsea last night, which is surprisingly mature of her. I like Amanda, but I am starting to wonder about her meeps. She seems to control them just fine when she is with Matt. And if stress or nerves brings them on, then shouldn't she be at least a little nervous around him if she likes him so much? It's strange, but she seems like a good match for him.
