'The Bachelor' recap: Dads are good, even Lorenzo Lamas

Bachelorlondon_l_2 Is it just me, or were the home visits surprisingly tame this season, even with Shayne's mother's lipliner and Amanda's faux parents' R-rated performance? That must have been why Chris Harrison's opening voice-over was already plugging "the most romantic season finale ever!" If you play it backwards, you hear, "We know this episode is boring, but you've stuck it out this long, so we also know that you'll be back." True. You got me. Let's break this snoozefest down date-by-date:

Shayne: First of all, every time Matt says something — like meeting Shayne's famous father, Lorenzo Lamas (pictured) — is "massive," I wish he had said "major." But moving on... Matt met Shayne and her father, whom he correctly identified as "a bit of a star," at a restaurant. Seriously disappointing. Was Lorenzo afraid we'd hunt him down if we saw his home?  (Oh, you surprisingly handsome, delusional man.) Shayne was nervous because she had once introduced a guy to her father, and the dude admitted that he'd met Shayne at a bar in a club. Why would this be at all shocking to Lorenzo? (Unless, maybe Shayne was underage at the time, and producers edited that part of the story out?) Anyway, I thought Lorenzo was actually a thoughtful, decent dad. He told the camera that he'd been married at 21, and didn't want Shayne to rush in to anything. So, he set her up: He told Matt that he thought she was on the show for the exposure, that "She wants to be a good actress, but she wants to be a star more. This was her opportunity to be on television, right? I mean, come on." Lorenzo wanted to give Shayne an out, or, hear her say that she was on the show for Matt — which she did. Lorenzo's conversation with Matt — about wanting him to be careful with Shayne's emotions, which he himself had toyed with by not being in her life as much as he should've been — wasn't patronizing; it was sweet.

Next came the visit to Shayne's mother's house, which Matt also correctly identified as having leopard everywhere. "I was kinda digging it," he said. And shockingly, so was I. Yes, it'd be easy to take shots at Shayne's mom for being a walking L.A. stereotype, but the fact is, you could feel her warmth, and that of her home. Serving Matt English food, showing him a video of Shayne dancing when she was younger, asking him how he'd feel watching Shayne kiss a costar — she was real. By the end of the date, Matt admitted that he had no more doubts about the Cuddle Master's motives for being on the show. We'll see if he sticks to that story...

After the jump, Chelsea, Noelle, and Amanda get their equal time.

Chelsea: My gut tells me that Matt is Chelsea's to lose — and that, unfortunately, they might not end up together. She took him home to meet her parents in Durango, Colo. She told the camera that she doesn't wear her emotions on her sleeve FOR ANYONE. (I thought it was just for people asking her to do so in front of millions of viewers...) That's going to be a problem, because we know Matt likes affection. I absolutely adored Chelsea's father, Kerry. Like my own dad, you 100-percent believe him when he says he just wants his daughter to be happy. He could tell Matt made Chelsea feel that way, so he actually encouraged her to open up to the man. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained," he reminded her. Saying goodbye, Chelsea kissed Matt and told him that she wanted him to miss her while he was on his other dates. Judging by the outtake that showed how much fun he was having carrying her down the street wearing Old West cowboy and prostitute costumes, I think he just might. You never know what footage the editors aren't showing us, but I feel like he and Chelsea are the most comfortable around each other. That they seem to be able to make the situation real, even though there are cameras around. We know he wants someone athletic, who makes him laugh, and who can be his best friend. If she can get over her hand-holding phobia, it could be her. He already calls her "sweetie." Ahhh.

Amanda: If the physical connection doesn't continue to blossom with Chelsea, then my gut says Amanda gets that finale proposal. (My gut still thinks Shayne is too young for Matt.) We didn't get to see much Amanda-Matt interaction in Tallahassee, and I hope that doesn't come back to bite her. Most of Matt's time was spent with the two actors she'd hired to play a prank on him (and, I suspect, because her real parents, who were shown for approximately two seconds sitting down to dinner, were too shy to be filmed for that long). Matt said he really had been fooled, but for a moment there, maybe around the time that Fake Mom rubbed the "good boy"'s nipple through his shirt, I thought he was on to it. I kinda wish we'd have seen Amanda ask Matt if her "mother" had hit on him, just so we could have seen how he handled the situation with her. Regardless, Amanda was right: Matt trying to bond with her fake parents, even while they bombarded him with inappropriate questions and caresses, was endearing. (And a sign that he must really like her.)

Noelle: We all knew Noelle would be the one not getting a rose this week, but at least she made Matt's trip to Loveland, Colorado memorable. How long were they riding the world's slowest horses for? (Not that I have anything against slow horses. I still remember Daisy, the horse I took lessons on when I was in elementary school. It was a sad, scary day when my instructor tried to put me on Tristan, who you can tell by his name was trouble.) I don't know about you, but I tend to tense up anytime the word "conservative" is thrown around on a reality show. But Noelle's dad, Larry, was lovely. The questions he was asking Matt over a game of horseshoes — i.e. what kind of person goes on this show? — were totally legit and non-confrontational. He, too, just wants his daughter to be happy, and told her to express her feelings. I appreciated Matt's honesty with Noelle's family members when they asked if he was on the verge of falling in love with multiple women (yes), but would've advised against his joke about being "flexible" with where he lives after the show: "I can get my legs over my head as well." (Do I have a dirty mind?) Matt told Noelle that he had to work harder to connect with her, and we all saw that. Yes, they finally got to the cuddling state, but she used it as a moment to tell Matt that he had all the characteristics that she didn't. She meant that they completed each other (oh, I wrote that), but it made me think that they have nothing in common other than being nice.

So, which coupling are you rooting for now? Which lady was Matt thinking of when he smiled after Noelle's father said he'd married his best friend? (And was that best friend his second wife? I was confused.) And do you think Chelsea (my vote!) will manage to kill the romantic mood next week in Barbados?

I hope that she becomes a great saint for this letter to young ladies written so eloquently.
ABC needs to get her to speak to these young women, maybe marriages in America would be strengthened and
virginity would not be laughed at!
Many marriages with Bachelor Parties and Bachelorette Parties are getting
the marriages off to an unholy start!
God bless and help us all! ABC will
be accountable for such impurity on TV
Ladies, let us stop with the profanity
and become the ladies that The Mother
of God Mary wants you to be!

Little girls, of course, grow up. How beautiful when a bride can say to her husband on their wedding night, “I have kept this garden virginal for you, and now, with God's permission I am giving you its key, knowing that you will enter into it with reverence.”

Moreover, when a wife conceives a few hours after her husband has embraced her, God creates the child's soul in her body, (as you certainly know, neither husband nor wife can produce the human soul; God alone can create it.) In other words, there is a personal “contact” between God and the woman which, once again, gives to the female body a note of sacredness. Don't forget that He whom the whole universe cannot contain, was “hidden” in the womb of the Holy Virgin for nine months. Once you realize this, you will be awe-filled for the double mystery that God has confided to you: to conceive a human being made to God's image and likeness, and to give birth to it in pain and anguish. Do not forget that it was also in pain and angu

Letter to a Young Girl
ALICE VON HILDEBRAND,
How beautiful when a bride can say to her husband on their wedding night, “I have kept this garden virginal for you, and now, with God's permission I am giving you its key, knowing that you will enter into it with reverence.” This touching piece of writing would be a lovely gift of truth for a young girl or even for a young boy to read in the proper context.

My dear young friend:

I know that young girls like secrets, and I am going to share one with you. God has chosen your sex for you; He made you to be a girl. You know that girls today are often told by feminists that the Church is “sexist” and has “discriminated” against them from the very beginning. She is accused of having treated them as “inferior,” less talented, less gifted, made to be man's servants. She has denied them power in the Church, and prohibited them from receiving the highest honor, to be ordained to the priesthood and so on.

No doubt, you have heard this si

I never watched The Bachelor in its entirety until this year. When I heard that Shayne is Lorenzo Lamas' daugher, I wanted to stay tuned. I prayed for her. I prayed for the whole family. I am glad that Shayne won. I thought Lorenzo's comment about marrying young and his regrets in breaking his little girl's heart was sincere. I truly think, however, ABC should rethink the whole message that they are getting out there. I am a Catholic Educator and I hope that my students will find someone faith- filled. Was that every mentioned or did I miss it? I also think that the whole "forgo going to your room alone" to be with each other is very wrong. If it meant that Matt was sexually intimate with the other two women, well then shame on him. Premarital sex ruins a relationship! We need to become more of a Godly Nation, America. Why do we think marriages are failing and there are so many attacks on the family unit? We need God in our lives! I suggest reading "Letter to a Young Girl'

Trish Tue, May 13, 2008 at 03:35 PM EST

This is absolutely so predictable! I knew he fell for "monkey". She played it up. Dads(hers) instincts (and brothers) were right on the mark. Dad says (warning Matt) "You know she wants to be an actress." Matt acknowledges this, but dad for the moment accepts his daughters plea that it is love. Well I can really fool my father, not my mother though. And then the brother of the bachelor recognizing right away that this is really not a woman suited for his brother. What did change his mind? Well for starters... she is an actress. her hair is not even her real color. And she may even believe her own act, but Chelsea was very right... she is phony. if not "the", she is "one of the". Poor Matt still has not been let in on the little secret. He still following cute tail and press junkets. Well he again gets what he played for. Phony. No real love develops in this short of time. Take heart Chelsea. He was not worth all the trouble in the first place. And to Matts mom...????

Tanya Tue, May 13, 2008 at 01:43 PM EST

I was postively thrilled and crying happily with the shock ending-I thought for sure that Matt was picking Chelsea but wanted it to be Shayne-I am soo happy for Shayne and Matt! I think Shayne is very genuine with a heart of gold-Matt you done good!

Tris Tue, May 13, 2008 at 09:00 AM EST

BEST Season EVER! I was crazy about Matt, what a georgous guy. I loved Noelle, and was rooting for her, but felt that Matt couldn't resist Shane's beauty, and thought she would be the one he picked, almost from the first episode.

YAY for them. I think this might work out for them. Good luck to them both. Shane, move to London, its the BEST city in the world. I moved there at age 23 and lived there 8 years, 8 of the funnest years of my life.

Michelle Tue, May 13, 2008 at 02:18 AM EST

This was my favourite season ever. I really liked Shane...she was my pick from the start.
SOOOO happy that Matt made the right choice.:o)

mrskapa Tue, May 13, 2008 at 01:45 AM EST

Oh, this is the first time my girl won!!!!!!!!!!! I didnt see this a mile coming, every rose ceremony I was genially surprised she was still standing. I am so happy for them, and I really hope they work out. Still cant believe he picked her, my fave never get picked:)))))

Zapatear Mon, May 12, 2008 at 11:38 PM EST

The final rose ceremony was like watching two really bad soap opera actors. They both have agendas and will be broken up by the next issue of People Magazine.

Mon, May 12, 2008 at 11:09 PM EST

Typical...who didn't see that one a mile away? They deserve each other. One more show I will never waste time watching ever again. London Calling was the only season I've ever watched and it was enough to put me off watching it for good. At least a valuable lesson was learned here...Shut the T.V. off and read a book or reorganize my closet!

linda Mon, May 12, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

I'am thinking that Chelsea is his no.1 ! And Shayne was on the show only for her acting career!

dianna Mon, Apr 28, 2008 at 02:44 AM EST

Shayne's mother looked like she was on drugs or something. Plastic surgery is supposed to make you look better not worse. I suspect chain smoking, drinking and drugs. Nobody looks that bad from plastic surgery.

Sassy Reader Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

She is in General hospital... go to wikipedia and search Shayne Lamas and it will tell you. Anyone have any information for me? See my comments below...

Ash Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 02:51 PM EST

What else has shayne been on? i have never seen her on anything but yet they mentioned that she bought her mom that house. I hope matt really thinks about how she will look years from now like her mother before/if he propses to her...YIKES!

Sassy Reader Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 11:55 AM EST

Sorry i forgot.
I found a blog of Marshana’s (http://marshanaritchie.spaces.live.com)
In one of her pics, she is wearing the same dress that she wore in her last rose ceremony. You know, black, long. She tripped on it on her way out (LOL).
Anyways, i just thought that was kind of weird for someone who makes their own clothes to EVER wear the same dress again… :-)

Sassy Reader Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 11:53 AM EST

I found a website that claims that a pharmasudical place in Santa Barbara had a worker out on leave to london. Sound farmiliar. But i also cant imagine Chelsea or Shayne not having a manicure. Last rose ceremony Chelsea's were black to match her dress.
Have you all seen the bracelet on her hand? Was it there before? We might be lead astray...
Also, does anybody have info or possibilities for who is going home this week? I'm thinkin amanda but im not sure...
Can you help?
Thanks!!
Kisses! :-)

Party Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 04:17 PM EST

Shayne's family was the most friendly and loving towards Matt - that seems important to him. Can't see him with either Amanda (too gummy and fake looking) and Chelsea (laughs too much).

ann Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

My bet is Robyn appears again. Remember the girls comments that "He's really into her?" Of course he is. She speaks French. Plays classical piano. Can Play sports. Looks like she'd fit in w/ a brood of brothers an little ones. She's coming back! TRUST ME!

CanadiaNic Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 03:17 PM EST

ABC kind of made it seem like next week was the finale and he proposes in Barbados? Does anyone know if they go to meet his family in London at all? Or if they have the women tell all, b/c I am dying to see what Robin has to say!

Also I think that the hand in the end CANNOT be Shayne's b/c she seems like the type of girl who would not be caught dead without a manicure (anyone remember the spray-tan scene?). I'm betting it was Chelsea, she seems quite tanned.

If Matt does pick Shayne, my bet is that they have a five month engagement and then call it off, b/c he won't be able to stand the whole actress thing, and she couldn't live in London, oh and, she's way too young! I'm 23 and I'm not ready for marriage, so I can't imagine that she is.

Trania Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 01:41 PM EST

Shayne's mother looks like Tammy Faye Baker reincarnated! Wow... it's very embarassing.

jes Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 11:05 AM EST

And to Vendredi...I don't think they usually have the Girls Talk Back episode until they're down to the final 2. So maybe after next week.

jes Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 10:09 AM EST

I was sooo worried after the family meetings that Chelsea was doomed. Her visit got literally 5 minutes of airtime while eveyone elses were much longer. But I was very excited that I was wrong!! LOVED the scene at the end where he was carrying her through town in those get-ups. I think they "get" each other more than they actually show and focus more on her unwillingness to get all PDA.

I thought Noelle was very classy in her exit. That doesn't happen very often in BachelorWorld.

And watching Shayne's mom talk was like having the Tide Stain in the room. I couldn't hear a word she was saying!! All I could focus on was her lipliner!! And black roots! (is shayne the only one in the family that keeps those in check?!?) And ginormous fake breasts!

Vendredi Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 08:08 AM EST

Noelle is indeed too good for this show. Overall, she showed alot of class and it very uniquely beautiful. Did they say they'd have the girls talk back talk show thing? My tivo might have cut it off. Chelsea and Amanda seem cute and fun but I don't see much of a connection with the bachelor. My opinion is that little tan hand is Shayne's. I like her...liked her family too. Basically alot of LA families are like that...divorced with kids from different parents...and overly tanned and botoxed.

wintersux Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 04:53 AM EST

Lene - I just realized that is something that gets on my nerves, when Matt practically whispers "Will you accept this rose?" And the girl whispers back "Yes, I will". Faux formal!

JMO Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

Shayne is an actress (kinda). I keep feeling like she is playing a role most of the time. And lorenzo is too. No doubt he and Shayne talked before him meeting Matt. Lorenzo played the caring dad. Shayne had said she doesn't have much contact with her father.

Carli Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 07:33 PM EST

Clearly it's coming down to Chelsea and Shayne. I like them both, but I see more between he and Shayne.

Kym Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 07:05 PM EST

I heard that he picks Shayne =)

Mckenzie Scott Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 06:10 PM EST

Thought Lorenzo looked hot. He looked more like his late thirties than 50. I really like Shayne but Chelsea is adorable too. I think she looks a bit like Scarlett Johanson. Probably a much better fit for Matt. Matt by the way is hands down one of the best bachelors yet. Unlike the past three bachelors he actually has a personality and is quite funny.

twinmom Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

I saw Shayne introduce her father to another man before. It was some reality show on MTV. These rich guys trying to be famous...met her at a party with Playboy models or something....Anyway, she dumped this guy but did have him pick her up at daddy's for their date.

Lene Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:11 PM EST

Last night's show was the first time I thought Amanda might not get the last rose. I agree - Chelsea might have snuck up on us all. You can tell who he really likes at the rose ceremony - his voice gets really low when he asks if they'll accept the rose. Hmm.

Ms Daisy Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

Shayne's mother was just ridiculous looking. Seriously, do these women look at themselves in the mirror and think "dam', I look good!"? I don't think he'll wind up picking Shayne, I suspect Amanda gets the ring.

Anna Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

I was SO happy with how Noelle handled her dismissal. There was no need to cry and/or curse about some guy she hardly knows, and luckily she didn't. And Shayne's mom looks like an alien, but Shayne is totally growing on me. Clearly Lorenzo likes plastic women. Have you seen Shauna Sand?

snooks - to ML Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:39 PM EST

Hilarious! I was thinking the same two things!!! My poor boyfriend, I kept saying "who's hand is that?" and "THAT's NOT HER MOTHER!!!" to him. :)

jones Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:04 PM EST

I thought Chelsea's parents were awesome, as was her cute reaction to getting to see them. I like her more and more each episode. I thought the fake parent bit went on too long and it actually made me wonder if Amanda did not want Matt spending lots of time with her real parents.
Shayne's mom was scary looking, but I actually wondered if she had some sort of skin problem or issue b/c it looked like more than just Botox and surgery. She was really sweet, though, and clearly cares about her daughter. And Noelle was very classy about her exit. Matt was right, she does not belong on a reality show.

Anonymous Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

Ugh that gummy smile Amanda has, hate that look. But her hair rocked at the rose ceremony!

kaf Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

I can't believe you let Shayne's mom off so easily! She is one of the creepiest looking people I have ever seen! Her face! Her makeup! Her chest! And how Matt was able to speak to her and seemingly maintain eye contact with those ginormous face breasts busting out of her shirt... quite impressive.

Anonymous Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:52 PM EST

No kidding, not only the Mother, but Lorenzo Lamas has had major plastic surgery too, it's obvious. Or chemical peels at the least, both her parents faces look like they are badly sunburned?!! He's crazy if he picks her, doomed to fail.

JillyRo Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

Shayne's Mom, unbelivable!! Can't imagine looking at her at each family gathering. Don't want to be mean, but she was beyond scary looking. Shayne's cute from the front, but those extensions looked awful and knotty from the back! If Matt was smart, he would fast-forward 30 years to what Shayne may look like, she already looks high maintenance (she admits it) and she is a Hollywood child after all, so bound to go the surgery route like her awful looking Mom.

Andi Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

I kept thinking that Matt should be wary of Shayne's Mom - I can totally see Shayne looking like her in 30 years! The pink botox lips were too much!

caseyL Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:47 PM EST

Ladies - Lorenzo Lamas is older than me. I was YOUNG when he was on Falcon Crest. He has had a lot of surgery and such so I do not see any natural attractiveness left.

I stand by all I have said about Shayne in the past but I don't seem him in to anyone else. If he picks her, it will just be another Bachelor failure. She'd make a great Bachelorette someday and then really get some exposure.

BTW- How do women who want to be actress figure being on The Bachelor is GOOD??? exposure??

You all have me at a loss. I don't know who'll he'll pick. Unless he's been wooing a camera girl all along I don't see a love connection.

mg Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:40 PM EST

No, Matt, don't propose! You've seemed so level-headed (except for going on the show in the first place) until that! The "hand" totally looked like Shayne's fake tanned, french manicured hand. Plus, I'm not from LA and I'm not trying to be mean, but even though she seemed nice, Shayne's mom looked absolutely grotesque. Has that become a cliche? I felt sorry for her.

Sorella Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

ML....spill it, whose hands do you think that was??

Sorella Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:35 PM EST

Lorenze Lamas surprised me by being so dad-like! Shayne's Mom did seem warm, but she is crazy-looking, yikes, surgery much?! Shayne is too young still and I think she's competitive, wants to win, but I can't see their connection at all.

Does ANYBODY else think Chelsea looks like a younger Frances McDormand?!! After seeing her with her Dad, I liked her even more.

wintersux Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:32 PM EST

I had kinda forgotten what Lorenzo Lamas looked like...not too shabby!!!!

Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

Shayne has gone up in my books, but I agree, she's still too young to settled down. And I still think she's doing it for TV exposure, I don't sense the realness when they kiss. I didn't like the joke-parents, thought it went on too long. He seems to have a good connection with Amanda (but her gummy smile would be a turnoff to me!). Chelsea is growing on me, I found her masculine at first, but she looked great last night. I too think they aren't showing everything, she does seem like the most fun, she is definitely in the top 2.

AA Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:31 PM EST

I saw that the hand did not have the black nail polish--does that rule out Shayne and Chelsea? (And a small request Mandi--any chance we can get this mini watch posted earlier in the day? I love spending my Tuesdays bashing the Bach with my fellow PDubbers.)

Anne Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:29 PM EST

Yeah, I was also trying to figure out who he was proposing to on the basis of the fingers. But never underestimate the producers- do we even know for sure whether that was staged or not? If it is real, I can't imagine it was Shayne's fingers. I think Matt was thinking of Chelsea when Noelle's father talked about marrying his best friend. But I'm not sure if Matt will end up with Chelsea...

ML Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:24 PM EST

Mandi -
Did you catch the moment when they mis-labeled Noelle's sister as "Noelle's Mom"? Also, did anyone else try to figure out whose hand was being shown in the proposal scene for next week?? Cause I certainly did...
