Must-See TV Gets Must-See-ier

30rock_l The announcement that NBC is abruptly moving the great 30 Rock to 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays, after The Office, with Scrubs moving to the 8:30 slot, is satisfying for a few reasons. 30 Rock can only be helped by being placed in a hammock (note use of TV-bizzer lingo) between ratings success The Office and people-actually-still-watch-it ER. For the rest of us, it means two hours of solid TV watching: The Office, 30 Rock, then switching to ABC for Lost in its new time period at 10. And the minimally-laugh-injected Scrubs is better paired with the 8 p.m. lead-in My Name Is Earl, which (and I speak as a fan of Earl) has never quite recovered from Earl’s time spent in jail. In short, for once, a network has made a smart time-period change. Agree?

Scrubs is the best comedy on network TV. Don't hate on the playa!

Greg Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 03:22 PM EST

Scrubs is probably the most underrated show on TV and I am a little insulted that you said that it has minimal laughs. As for 30 Rock, I have heard good things about it, but I have never seen it. To be honest, I am a little mad that they switched Scrubs because before that I had The Office, followed by the hilarity that is Scrubs, and finally the awesomeness that is Lost.

Hey "scrubs" is sweet...lay off.

Me Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

I love Lost, but I still love ER. I wish they would have kept Lost on Wednesdays at 9:00ET. There is nothing on. ( I can tivo Idol and watch in 5 minutes)

Tim Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 02:06 PM EST

I'm with Laura M & Dominique!!!!! Dream TV night now! GO Tina!

Andie Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

Sweet. Now I can watch the full episode of Survivor without switching over at the half.

Audrey! Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

No way, man! I want 30 Rock to be on as early as possible. I like that The Office, which-used-to-be-funny-but-is-now-just-sad, is on at 8 I can flip around or be productive.

Moo Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 11:37 AM EST

Whoo hoo! Now I don't have to decide between 30 Rock and Ugly Betty or watching both online. I can have both now! Though, I had planned on going to yoga class on Thursday nights. Hmm, laugh out loud funny for 2 hours vs. relaxing for my health. Hey, laughter is the best remedy, right? Must-See TV, here I come!

Laura M Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 11:09 AM EST

I totally agree with Dominique about Thursday night now having the perfect schedule (although, I don't watch Grey's, so I'm golden!) Thank you thank you TV execs for seeing the light!

8PM: Ugly Betty
9PM: The Office
9:30PM: 30 Rock
10PM: Lost

Dominique L. Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 10:54 AM EST

Excellent! Now the only show I have to DVR is Grey's!
8PM: Ugly Betty
9PM: The Office
9 30PM: 30 Rock
10 PM: Lost
The perfect night of television!

Sina Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 08:38 AM EST

They could put 30 Rock on at 3 am and I would still be watching. I don't care about the time slot. that's one show I would watch anytime, anywhere.

Zayne Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 08:13 AM EST

Scrubs is still one of the funniest 1/2 hour shows still on TV. NBC has just jacked it around and I'm glad they're moving to ABC who sound like they'll treat them well.

Calling Scrubs "minimally laugh injected" is not true and a little insulting. It may not be for everyone, but don't belittle the people that like it.

donner Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 07:51 AM EST

yes, I agree...I love 30 Rock and hope NBC keeps it around at all costs...

Howdy Ken Tucker, good to see ya here!!

Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 07:23 AM EST

Another stupid move by NBC. CSI and Grays are both on at that time. They are going to lose more viewers.

Patty Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 06:15 AM EST

Hey, Scrubs still brings the funny! Seriiously though my TIVO is hard pressed to keep up with all the Thursday shows. NBC/Ugly Betty at 8, NBC/CSI at 9, then Lost at 10. This week it seems to be working but when they start running shows from 9:31 - 10:02, the poor thing gets all kerfuffled. Also, I think Earl may fall off the season pass if it comes back next year. Sorry Earl.

Kristina Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 12:59 AM EST

Oh and I also agree with J from VA.. Come over to our side Grays fans... it's so much better on the NBC side of the fence haha

Kristina Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 12:56 AM EST

I think it's a good move now that 30Rock is gaining more fans and since a lot of people tune into The Office they're more likely to stay to watch the next show. Also, I was always a die-hard Scrubs fan but that show should have been off two seasons ago. Getting it out of that spot is probably a good move since more people are tuning in to 30rock than Scrubs. Also will anyone watch Scrubs when it moves to ABC for their next final season? Hopefully NBC will see good results with this new 9-10 slot because both The Office and 30rock deserve good things. Best shows on tv.

evie Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 10:53 PM EST

I don't know, but that headline is genius.

kim in kentucky Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 07:13 PM EST

I'm just glad all the shows are back -- I've always been a Thursday night NBC junkie -- began a long ago with Cheers, Hill Street Blues, etc -- HATE it when they stick some stupid so-called "reality" show in the middle of the night - it ruins it! AND YES I STILL WATCH ER!

Laura R. Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 06:53 PM EST

So so SO glad I won't have to choose between The Office and LOST. And to somewhat echo another commenter, if only Arrested Development were still around - THEN I'd give NBC a perfect score.

Joy Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 06:45 PM EST

Now I don't get to watch 30 Rock. Too much going on at 9pm. It was better off at 8:30. Now I have to wait for re-runs. This sucks!

mscisluv Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:32 PM EST

EP Sato - Isn't Ugly Betty on at 8? I'm pretty sure it's at 8, followed by Grey's at 9...

anonymous Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:27 PM EST

Poor Scrubs. I loved the first four seasons--five had its moments as well--but stopped watching it in the sixth and never returned. Sigh.

EP Sato Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Earl. Season's one and two were pretty cool, but once he went to jail the show lost itself. The 9 PM slot change leaves me with a tv traffic jam though, as Ugly Betty's on at the same time. D'oh!

Jorge Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 05:06 PM EST

As a dinosaur w/o DVR I am only bummed that Lost is back to 10.

Rich Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

As Raven pointed out, this is kind of a non-story. 30 Rock was on after The Office last season, and, sadly, that didn't help its ratings. I don't care. I'll watch it whenever they decide to put it on.

Brad in Ohio Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:30 PM EST

I still enjoy 'Scrubs', but this article only reminds me of a year or so ago when I dreamed how perfect it would be for 'Arrested Development' to join 'Earl', 'Office' and '30 Rock' on Thursday nights.
Sob.

Dana Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 04:00 PM EST

I was just hoping for this exact change last week. It is the smartest way to put those 4 shows.

Raven_Moon Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

First off, lay off of "Scrubs." Has this been it's best season? No, but it's still better than most of the garbage on television today. Secondly, I do love "30 Rock," but this isn't the first time it's been on after "The Office." I'm not convinced this will help it's ratings. You never know, though, I guess. And as for "Earl," can we get him out of the coma & stupid sitcom dreamland all ready?

David Dyer Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:53 PM EST

Agree, on two counts - good move for 30 Rock, and a great two hours with Office, 30 Rock, and Lost. And like J said, stop watching Grey's and start watching 30 Rock, dummy.

J from VA Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

As long as 30's ratings don't get hurt by Grey's and CSI I'm cool with it. And please some of you Greys people stop watching and watch this show instead. I promise you'll feel better for it. Lemon out!

Marcy Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

Another Earl fan who has actually stopped watching as the prison storyline was just plain unbearable.
