Clinton, Obama, McCain hit 'Monday Night RAW': Is there a TV guest spot that would LOSE your vote?

Rawiswar_l I almost want to tune in to see this, but I won't*: Tonight, on the eve of the Pennsylvania primary, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain will each make a very special appearance on a three-hour edition of WWE's Monday Night RAW (USA, 8 p.m. ET). According to the press release, "An invitation from the WWE to have Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama appear on RAW to settle the Democratic nomination process in the wrestling ring was the catalyst for tonight's appearances by the three top Presidential contenders, who each will address the WWE audience in specially taped messages."

I guess it's nice that the WWE is encouraging its fans in PA to "Smackdown Your Vote!" Still, this got me wondering: Is there a TV show that a candidate could appear on and LOSE your vote? I shot EW's What to Watch maven Alynda Wheat an email and asked for her expert opinion. "Besides this one?" she wrote back. "Losing on Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? would erode some respect." Where do you draw the line?

* Not because I'm above wrestling: I watched back in Rock 'n' Roll Express' heyday.

Why can’t Hillary win in her bread and butter states like Barack does, say in Louisiana were it was 70% - 30% Barack? Barack win’s the states he’s supposed to win by very convincing margins… while Hillary seems to squeak out victories in her own backyard?
And this notion about battleground states. Barack won Iowa, the first contest, and Missouri - a huge battleground victory where they didn’t even know the winner til 90% of the precincts were counted. He won Delaware , a state next door to Clinton’s adopted home state.
Clinton is supposed to have this huge advantages, like say in Ohio and Texas - and yet she barely squeaks out victories. Now what Americans need to value is there is a huge movement toward one candidate - its authentic - its legitimate and its valid - the hopes and dreams of people are going with this man and he’s not out there arguing for it, he's earning it. It's time to give credit where credit is due, Barack Hussein Obama is the man who can turn this country around.

Ooohh, Ep Sato -- "Moment of Truth"? Good one!!

EP Sato Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

I'd like to see the candidates on "Moment of Truth". It'd be the one time I'd tune in and watch that show.

However, even Barack would lose my vote if he cameo'd on "Flavor of Love".

Keeping up with the Kardassians would lose my vote. (Although honestly have never watched it, just see highlights - or low lights - on the Soup)

When McCain said, "McCainiacs," didn't he sound kind of like Will Ferrell doing his impersonation of Pres. Bush? This is obviously to show people that the candidates are down with the common man. Clearly a knee-jerk reaction to Obama's poor people are frustrated and hold on to their guns speech.

"Is there a TV guest spot that would LOSE your vote?" Yup. And this is probably it. This or a soap opera.

I am not stupid. If they can't f-ing spell, why should they be our president? We are getting our as-es laughed at already by other countries no thanks to our current president. Think about it?

can you all tell EDLYN is a fan (and probably a child)?

paige Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

Greg Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 10:07 AM EST

Can you smeeeeeeellllll what Barack, is cookin.

EDLYN Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 08:15 AM EST

TO STEPHANIE T. AND DAISYJ YOU 2 ARE STUPID. YOU GUYS MAKE NO SENSE. I THOUGHT THAT RAW WAS PRETTY GOOD HAVING THE LOOK ALIKES OF HILROD AND MONKEY EAR OBAMA. JEFF HARDY NEEDS TO COME BACK AS THE REAL HARDY BOY. CENA IS THE BEST MAN ALIVE.

I watched RAW last night and even though all 3 canidates comments were stupid at least they did all encourage people to vote.

Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 07:48 AM EST

You do realize that the "REAL" Obama, Clinton, and Mccain won't be appearing on Raw. Right?

Silv Tue, Apr 22, 2008 at 07:29 AM EST

A hammy move such as the Bush "Deal or No Deal" would be a real turn-off. Can you say "lame duck?"

BlueCarp Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 08:44 PM EST

A guest appearance on To Catch a Predator would hurt a candidate.

Paddy Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 07:20 PM EST

You don't have to watch- we've got it on our site, it's pre-taped- http://agonist.org/schecter/?p=9130

Carrie Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

I'm thinking this is a work cooked up by Vince McMahon. I'm expecting midget versions of the candidates, not the real deal. Then again, I certainly wasn't expecting them to show up on the CMT Music Awards "looking for tickets" but they did.

Mandi, the Road Warriors were the best tag team ever. Ooohhhh, what a rush!! ;-)

daisyj Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 05:13 PM EST

Well, an appearance by any of the above on, say, Rock of Love, would certainly make me question the value of democracy, but since that's about as likely as the Hills girls speaking in complete sentences, I'll go with the slightly more possible pandering paso doble on Dancing With the Stars. Because, as much as I like someone who's willing to not take themselves seriously, there are some positions that do demand a certain amount of dignity.

Stephanie T. Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 04:34 PM EST

Why do they think American Dreamz is a great film?!

Yes, losing on Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader or Jeopardy absolutely. Better yet, instead of another appearance or debate, have all three candiates compete in a nationally televised spelling bee. G.W.B. can't speak or spell properly so let's see if these current candiates can.
