The TV character you'd date in real life

Feb 14, 2008, 11:30 AM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: 'Bones', 'Medium', Inappropriate Crushes, PopWatch Confessional, Television

Tvdates_l In honor of Valentine's Day, and with a nod to our gallery of Pop Culture's Best Couples, let's all name the TV character we'd actually date. Here are the rules:

1. Hosts of any kind are disqualified. The relationship you're creating is real; your better half must be fictional.
2. You can't change anything about your partner — other than that he or she will no longer have the hots for the show love interest, obviously.
3. You must explain why you'd make a good match, so when other PopWatchers want to steal your pick, they know what they're up against.

After the jump: Three of the TV heartthrobs who made our cut, and why.

I spent waaaay too much time debating this yesterday. First with colleagues Abby West and Jennifer Armstrong. Jennifer knew immediately that she wanted Jack (James Tupper, right) from Men in Trees because he resembles half the men she's dated, clearly likes New York writer types, and has great hair. Also, because she didn't want to say she'd date a teenager (Ryan from The O.C., played by Benjamin McKenzie). Abby had to ponder briefly and IM'd me when I finally let her return to her desk. According to her (and her husband), Medium's Joe Dubois (Jake Weber, left) is "the best all around man on TV. He's handsome and loyal and smart (rocket scientist!!!) and loving and affectionate and real (will argue... eloquently... but argue nonetheless). Gets frustrated. Is a great dad."

That's very persuasive, but I couldn't begin to process him with my head already spinning. Do I go with NewsRadio's Dave Nelson (Dave Foley)? Not if I want to keep my friend Eva, apparently, who said "What would you have in common with Dave Nelson? Do you drink coffee? Do you watch Green Acres? He's mine." What about Ed's Ed (Tom Cavanagh)? He's a dreamer but still solid, and were we ever to reproduce, his staff at the bowling alley would provide free daycare. Tempting, but the fact that I stopped watching the show toward the end doesn't exactly bode well for our longevity. After I tried to tell my friend Tamara (pick: The West Wing's Josh Lyman, played by Bradley Whitford) what I loved about Sports Night's Dan Rydell (Josh Charles) but couldn't remember, I accepted the inevitable: I had to post another picture on PopWatch of Bones' Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz, center). I respect the man, for what he does on the job, for how supportive and protective he is of his friends, for asking Brennan where her TV was when he first saw her apartment. I also happen to share his love of Thai food and pie, and I fully support his affinity for flashy socks and hair metal. Anthropology was one of my majors in college, so he could leave me alone with the squints. And because I work long hours in New York and couldn't make the totally manageable trek to D.C. every weekend, he'd still have plenty of quality time with son Parker and shrink Sweets.

Your turn.

Chuck-He's sweet, cute, funny, loyal and awesome. I would be nerdy enough for him and I am not involved with the Govt., which would be a good change for him.
Jim Halpert-He's just so funny! He keeps me laughing. I'd have to help him prank Dwight time and again. He's also sexy and sweet.
Spike-*all the ladies swoon now* He was the vampire who fought for his soul, for love. If only he could get over Buffy. I would love to hang out in his cript for hours or spend the rest of the time taunting the Scoobies or Angel. He is funny and a good looking badboy, ya got to love him.
Any one of the guys on Firefly, although Wash is dead now, (cry).
John Casey- He's a tough guy, but he's also pretty damn funny. Plus, he needs to have some love in his life sometime. Chuck gets all the girls, even all the spy girls.

Sheela Sun, May 17, 2009 at 03:37 PM EST

-Greg Sanders (CSI)

He's super smart and funny. extremely cute!

Jessica Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 02:24 PM EST

Rupert "Ripper" Giles- I love books, so his bookworminess would compliment mine. We'd have the biggest home library ever. I would love to help him fend off the baddies and wouldn't harp on him for all the time he spends with a beautiful teenage girl. Plus, has a librarian ever been that buff? really? He is tough, smart, sexy and caring. the whole package. Enough talk about the BTVS boys, its all about Giles for me.

Michael Bluth- The only man with a family more dysfuctional than mine. We could swap stories and not scare eachother away. Plus he'd have me laughing the whole time. Anyone who looks like that, and could have me laughing out loud, and cares for people like that, is definately boyfriend material.

Benjamin Linus (LOST) Okay, so he's short and creepy and has scary eyes. But his sense of humor is absolutely AMAZING.
Sawyer(LOST) Because I'm female, and all of my friends so I act just like him. Which is a little insulting.
House (House) I dig snarky guys.
Jack Harkness (Torchwood)Omg...

shiren Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Ben from lost because he is an evil genius and his childhood is tragic. his own father didnt even remember his birthday! that would suck!!!!

1. Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak) from "The Office".
2. Brett McKenzie (Brett McKenzie) from "Flight of the Conchords".
3. Marshall Erikson (Jason Segel) from "How I Me Your Mother".

Michelle Wed, Apr 16, 2008 at 07:19 AM EST

1. Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak) from "The Office".
2. Brett McKenzie (Brett McKenzie) from "Flight of the Conchords".
3. Marshall Erikson (Jason Segel) from "How I Me Your Mother".

No way I'd date Jim. It's totally Ryan for me.

Mel Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 03:55 PM EST

1) Luke Danes - 'Gilmore Girls' (yes he got a bit wishy washy but he had a true heart)
2) Mick St. John - 'Moonlight' (vampire, but I love me some vampires)
3) Ned - 'Pushing Daisies' (so we couldn't touch directly, but we could work it out somehow).

Claire Mon, Mar 24, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

1) Mick St. John--Good guy vampire. 'nuff said.
2) Desmond Hume--Strand me on an island with that man ANY DAY.
3)Guy of Gisbourne--I'll be the woman to tame him.

Ana Sun, Mar 9, 2008 at 11:28 AM EST

My TV Boyfriends:
1. Special Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny)
2. White House Deputy Chief of Starr Josh Lyman (Bradley Whitford)
3. Regional Manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell)
4. Deputy Communications Director Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe); and
5. Executive Assistant Dennis Finch (David Spade)

I like my men in their forties harharhar

Manda Thu, Mar 6, 2008 at 10:41 AM EST

Before I started watching The Office about a month ago, I would have said Angel from BTVS because he's gorgeous when he's brooding. But now that I know the existence of the character of Jim Halpert, I have fallen into the hugest fictional crush.

Brandi Tue, Mar 4, 2008 at 12:51 PM EST

Mal Reynolds from Firefly. That man could do anything he wanted to me as long as he kept the humor!

Sara Tue, Mar 4, 2008 at 08:26 AM EST

That's.

Not.

Kaylee.

ch Sat, Feb 23, 2008 at 04:19 PM EST

Spike from Buffy
Nigel Barker from ANTM
Michael Scofield - Prison Break
Blair Underwood - SATC or New Adventures
Eddie Latecka - October Road
Andy Samberg - SNL

charlielove Fri, Feb 22, 2008 at 03:30 PM EST

Rob Lowe all the way. He was amazing as SamSeaborn on the west wing and even better as senator Robert mccallister on brothers and sisters. He always looks amazing and maybe he will be ou future president........on the show

Chelle Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 12:43 AM EST

Top 5 Inappropriate Teen Boyfriends:

Bright Abbott, Everwood
Oz Osbourne, Buffy
Matt Saracen, FNL
Logan Echolls, Veronica Mars
Dean Forester, Gilmore Girls

Chelle Wed, Feb 20, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

I'm such a ditz - I completely forgot Malcolm Wyatt on Ally McBeal! If you remember this character, you'll know why I chose him.

Alice Tue, Feb 19, 2008 at 03:19 AM EST

While i agree that Jack from Men in Trees is utterly desirable, i don't see a single mention of Logan Huntzberger from the Gilmore Girls! Good looking, smart, funny, yes a bit impetuous at times, but his party boy past means he knows how to shake things up and has the family money to actually fulfill those flights of fancy to the fullest.

Kelly Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

1) Jim Halpert, The Office
2) Nathan Scott, One Tree Hill
3) Michael Bluth, Arrested Development
4) Peter Petrelli, Heroes
5) Trent, Daria (a cartoon, but I don't care!!!)

Emily R Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 02:26 AM EST

Jim from the Office. I'm sure everybody thinks to themselves, "Oh my god, I am SO Jim/Pam! I'm so cynical, and everybody else at school/work are just a bunch of Kellys/Phyllises/Stanleys!"
But, like, for me, it's REALLY true. So I'm sure Jim would fall madly in love with me.

Sayid from Lost. He's brave and to the point and isn't afraid of commitment. But I choose to discount last week's flash forwards.

And Giles from Buffy. My love of things pop culture will nicely balance out his book smarts. And we both have a hidden bad ass side. For example, in his troublesome youth he conjured up a demon, resulting in mucho death and destruction. As a parallel, I smoke a lot of weed. We're perfect for each other. Plus he'd be a good dad.

sarah Sat, Feb 16, 2008 at 06:32 PM EST

Karl "Helo" Agathon from Battlestar Galatica....definitely. Honorable mention to Pacey Witter

Silv Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:21 PM EST

Gosh, and how could I forget Luke from Gilmore Girls? I love that guy - still watch GG reruns in huge part because of him - and he reminds me of my husband too.

Silv Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:13 PM EST

And Jason Morgan from GH.

Silv Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:08 PM EST

Dr. Doug Ross
Dr. McVet (Chris O'Donnell's character from Grey's)
Dr. Richard from Friends

Jo Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:03 PM EST

1. Ted (how i met your mother)
2. Lloyd (Undeclared)
3. Jack Shepard (Lost)
4. Michael Bluth (Arrested Development)
5. Turk (Scrubs) - runner up is Dr. Cox

Luvin Luka Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 07:33 PM EST

I must add my love for County General's Croatian Sensation, the lovely Dr. Luka Kovac. That sexy accent! Those beautiful brown eyes! I am beside myself with glee...

Diana Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 06:09 PM EST

James Tupper (Jack) from Men in Trees. Also Scott Elrod(Cash) from Men in Trees. Two of the hottest and manliest men on tv! You rarely see male characters on tv anymore that are real men and Men in Trees has lots of them!
Jim from Ghost Whisperer because he is a truly understanding supporrtive awesome husband. Oh, and cute too!

angel932 Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 06:08 PM EST

I'm gonna have to go with The Doctor - 5th, 10th, and especially 9th editions. Seriously cute (5), great hair (10), killer smile (9) and sexy as all get-out, plus what a ride. Anywhere in the universe, any time. Count me in!

Beth Raines Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 05:32 PM EST

I loved GUIDING LIGHT's Lujack. Twenty-two years after mt favorite dyslexic Galahad's onscreen demise, I still think he is out there somewhere.

I also liked I'LL FLY AWAY's Forrest Bedford. Is it because Sam Waterston wore those suspenders oh-so-well, much like...

"thirtysomething"'s Michael Steadman? Yet another man I could snuggle eternally with.

Rachel Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

I'd be Flight of the Conchords' Jemaine Clements' first girlfriend...I appreciate his fashion sense and his creative outlet. I like his glasses. I'd never make fun of him for being a New Zealander. And I'd kick his stalker Mel's ass!

Peter Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:44 PM EST

- Brandon Walsh, the all-around guy next door. He's sweet and caring, too bad he has a demented sister.

- Jason McCallister (Brothers and Sisters), a complex, sensitive man in uniform (cloak counts right?) is very sexy.

- Matt Saracen (Friday Night Lights), where were genuine guys like this in my high school? Probably still in the closet, I bet.

Darby Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

LUKE from GILMORE GIRLS. He's sarcastic; hates the ridiculous and pointless, and I always dreamed of having a man who would actually get ANGRY with me if I hired someone for a home project he could easily do for me for free (and do well). Plus, he looks totally hot in that flannel.

Sadie Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Ha! I love reading all of these posts!! I forgot about Chuck on "Chuck" -- I heart nerds. And Michael Vaughn from Alias -- the dangerous job and the good looks.

Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 02:03 PM EST

oh boy! tim riggins

Lori Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 01:58 PM EST

Xena
Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Malcolm Reynolds from Firefly
Zoe from Firefly
Linc from The Mod Squad
Pepper Anderson from Police Woman
Logan from Veronica Mars
Sayid from Lost (sorry, Jack and Sawyer are TOO damaged)
Calleigh from CSI: Miami
Shane from the L-Word (obviously a one-night stand only but it'd be soooo worth it!)

pai Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 01:55 PM EST

Joe on Medium is such a great choice, but he's totally Alison's so I ain't going there!!! I go with Hodges on CSI. He's smart and funny and outside of the box. Three things that I def. hope that I am. But can I flirt with Chase on House? He's not from my league, but a lot of fun.

kana Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 01:05 PM EST

Also, Franco, from Rescue Me, played by Daniel Sunjata. Great... now you've got me started....

kana Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

Desmond, from LOST, definitely. The accent, the hair, the body, the lengths he goes to for the woman he loves..... *sigh*

Mel Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

1. Bobby Goren, Law & Order: Criminal Intent
2. Michael Bluth, Arrested Development
3. Rupert Giles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
4. Ricky Stratton, Silver Spoons :)

E Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

Here's my top 5 TV boyfriends
1) Jim Halpert from The Office (duh): He's cute and funny and doesn't take himself too seriously. I like those qualities in a fictional man... Plus isn't it every girl's dream to have a totally cute guy stop your wedding to a total putz?
2) Jack Shephard from Lost: Knows how to take charge; has mad spinal-surgeon skills; big muscles; hot facial stubble; is always in for a good cry.
3) Seth Cohen from The OC: He's got just the right amount of snark and sarcasm to keep up with my snark and sarcasm. Plus we could probably talk books.
4) Eric Murphy from Entourage: He's got a good head on his shoulders, and he knows how to boldly negotiate. Obvious bonus: Hot Hollywood parties and mingling with celebs!
5) Michael Bluth from Arrested Development: Comes from a crazy family (as do I). He's really cute and sincere and funny and rarely thinks of himself first. Plus, anything to get close

onlymichaelscottlover Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:49 AM EST

Ok, so since everyone is bringing up people from past shows I have to add to my Michael Scott/Jack Donaughy list. If I could only pick one character in TV history it would be Remington Steele. Pierce Brosnan was the definition of a greek god back then. We would share a love of classic movies and I would not object to robbing museums with him. Also, I would date Roger Moore on the Saint. I don't know why we would make a good couple, but I don't really care. Someone mentioned Dr. Cox from Scrubs whom I would date from shared crankiness at the world. But I would rather date the Janitor, because I am nearly than weird myself and I would totally respect his squirell army. I would date Jack Tripper from Three's company and Fraiser from Fraiser. While I wouldn't date Alf because he's a puppet alien, I would totally be best friends with him because we're on the same brain wave. Finally, Captain Kirk. We would make a good couple because I'm female and that's really all he needs.

kristie Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:48 AM EST

oh my gah! how could I forget the Winchesters! I feel like I've betrayed Dean, Sam and Daddy Winchester! Add them to my list! Demon-fighting hotness every Thursday night..gotta love that!

Bethany Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

A (young) Jed Bartlett from the West Wing. If I could have caught him before he got old, yum. He's super intelligent, loves useless trivia ("there are fourteen punctuation marks in standard English grammar...") and always knows what's right. And plus, I'm sure he was really hot when he was young, because I bet he looked an awful lot like the hot guy in Apocalypse Now when he was younger. ;)

Los Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:07 AM EST

Pam Beesley is a definite TV crush for me. She's hot, has a good sense of humor, and is kind to everybody. Plus I think we'd do alright together because we have some stuff in common: we both dig art but are stuck doing clerical type of work, and neither of us are very outgoing until we're around people we're comfortable with (kinda like how she is with Jim, at least until the Beach Games episode).

Or, I'd definitely get with Liz Lemmon because I really like a woman with a quick wit, and judging from the episode where she dated the boy-toy who brought the coffee, she doesn't have too many reservations dating the younger guys, so I could have a shot (plus, I don't still live with my mother- being the deal breaker in that episode).

Dawn Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:05 AM EST

JOE DUBOIS!!!!!!

I don't just want to date that man, I want to marry him and have his babies. He's PERFECT!! Gorgeous, funny, smart, sweet, loving, and supportive, and he looks GREAT in his boxers! Oh, and did I mention he's gorgeous??!

Kate Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:04 AM EST

Sawyer from LOST
Mick from Moonlight
Dr Christian Troy from Nip/Tuck
Michael from Burn Notice
Peter AND Sylar from Heroes
I like my quirky bad boys what can I say?

Rafa Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:01 AM EST

Alex (Family Ties) - The guy was adorable!

"Apollo" Adama (BSG) - The guy is trying to save the whole human race. Have to love him!

Sam and Dean Winchester (SUpernatural)- Two hot brothers trying to save the world from evil.

Seeley Booth (Bones) - He's funny, adorable and really brave.

Cap. Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly) - Who wouldn't like a space cowboy?

Fox Mulder (X-Files) - A guy with an open mind like him? Sooo in love!

Dinozzo (NCIS) - Real sense of humor and he doesn't take himsel too seriously...

Also on ly list: Jack Bauer, McGyver, Chandler, Chase (House), Justin Walker and Nathan Petrelli.

Courtney Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Is it wrong to want to say one of men I would want to date is Dexter?? haha He is sooo darn good with the kids and Rita, I just love him!!

fredric Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:46 AM EST

Kyle XY. I'd be a little freaked out at first by the lack of bellybutton, but I'd get over that pretty fast. Plus, the Tragers make for good in-laws.

AJ Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:45 AM EST

I am going to have to fight Tamara for Josh Lyman. I love that character so much that I find myself begrudging Bradley Whitford's actual wife, even though I (sort of)know that Bradley is not Josh. Seriously though, he's ridiculously smart, devoted to his President and his country, gutsy, thoughtful, hilarious, blustery but kind. Look at the way he got the Pres to call Donna's teacher she wanted a Presidential Proclamation, the constant (bad, but adorable) advice to Charlie about Zoey, the way he came back after the shooting, and the fact he wasn't afraid to take the President to task when he really felt he was wrong. I could not have designed a more perfect man if I tried. Plus...that smile makes me melt.

marilinda Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:40 AM EST

Hands down, Trent from Daria. True, I'd be making most of the money, but who cares if I can go home to that every night. Call me, Trent!!

Allison Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

Chuck from Chuck because he is probably the most adorable TV geek ever
Booth from Bones for his sensitive manliness and quirky ties and socks and belt buckles
Ned from Pushing Daisies because who doesn't love a tortured cutie that can also bake?
Spike from Buffy because he's a badass with feelings
Jim Halpert from The Office just because he's so cute

Allison Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:27 AM EST

The Winchester boys from Supernatural:
John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) - so hot
Dean (Jensen Ackles) - so pretty
Sam (Jared Padalecki) - so sweet

Andrea Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:17 AM EST

1) Maurice "Bosco" Boscorelli- he can be a total jerk, but he's so gorgeous and raw that it makes up for it. And he looks good in uniform. And out ;)
2) Jim Halpert- just perfection. I wish there were more boys like him. And the kiss with Pam on Casino Night?? So hot!!
3) Casey Hughes from As the World Turns- only after he met till before he started gambling/stealing. Maddie and him were so perfect for each other, and the writers had to screw that up. He is just so adorable when he jokes around, not to mention he looks like an amazing kisser!!

BLM Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:17 AM EST

Jim Halpert--he's funny and cute and lacks ambition, just like me. He also is attainable in a real world sense--totally not out of my league!
Runners up:
Chuck Bartowski (nerdy and sexy)
Zach Morris (who didn't want to date the hot popular guy in high school?)
Seth Cohen (funny, smart, and cute)
Sawyer (the epitome of the "bad boy")

Dana Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:11 AM EST

James Tupper- Jack on Men in Trees
Wentworth Miller- Micheal on Prison Break
William Petterson - Gil Grissom on CSI
David Boreanaz- Seeley Booth on Bones
Hugh Laurey- Dr. House on House

ezzie Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 10:09 AM EST

Casey McCall from Sports Night. I adored the show. Adored him. And while I love Josh Charles - I did not adore Dan Rydell as much as I loved Casey. A person who can write, is smart and makes good sports commentary is just fun.

Drew Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 09:05 AM EST

Izzie from Grey Anatomy because the woman who plays her is smoking. Also, Claire from lost - hot, blonde, and the accent.

Barb Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 09:01 AM EST

Dr. Mark Green-ER, I swore to myself when he died I wouldn't watch it anymore, and I haven't except in re-runs. He was the best.
Nate Fisher-Six Feet Under, Nate is hopeless, but so cute.
Dr. Jack Shepard- Lost, He's hot, and the kinda guy that would make you feel safe
Billy Chenowith-Six Feet Under, total nut job, but so worth it.

LoveMeSomeTV Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 08:47 AM EST

Special Agent Fox Mulder- I just want to run my fingers through his special agent hair

Dr. Jack Shepard - he makes "Lost" so worth it. Best crier on TV.

Jim Halpert - actually have had wonderful romantic dreams about dating Jim.

Dr. Luka Kovacs - I stopped watching ER after 12 years with his departure. Wish he had his own show where Luka would commit vigilante crimes in defense of women everywhere. It could be called "Croatian Justice"

-Kevin Arnold's father on the Wonder Years. Totally my type.

-Corbin Bernsen circa "Psych", not "LA Law". He seems so comfortable now- really admire that. Also painfully envious of his house. Would love to hang out with Gus and Shawn and solve mysteries.

-David Addison. Especially in the episode where he went to a bar and "West End Girls" was playing. Anyone remember that epi? Anyone?

I could go on...

orville Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 08:18 AM EST

Man, I am such a tv slut. I'm looking back at all your posts and I'm thinking "How could I forget him? And *him*? Oh, and HIM!" Sorry, Trek guys, Xander, Doug Ross, et. al. You're all in my heart and theoretical dating world as well.

miamigirl Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 07:49 AM EST

Fry from Futurama...

I have SUCH a cartoon crush on him!

netriko Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 03:25 AM EST

1. Sylar, don't ask I'm twisted.
2. Any of the other guys from Heroes, there all pretty good looking.
3. House
4. Sawyer from LOST, who does not want this man.
5. Alan Shore from Boston Legal
6. A lot of the guys from Star Trek. (i'm a nerd, does it show?)

Abby Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 02:36 AM EST

1)Where is the love from Adam Monroe from Heroes? He not quite as evil as Sark and super hot. He would be totally grateful if I went and dug him up. Then we could be partners in crime.
2) This is a little bit more normal but Sawyer from Lost...He acts so tough but is really a little wounded puppy on the inside.

Sam D Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 12:52 AM EST

Wow... surprised and happy to see the shout-out to Owen on Torchwood. I would totally have to agree... especially after seeing the recent episode showcasing a softer, gentler possible Owen. Jim Halpert would be a good choice, because he has a wicked sense of humour and doesn't take life too seriously. However, my main pick would be Xander Harris on Buffy. The man was loyal, compassionate and absolutely devoted. Plus, he gave a beautiful speech once to girlfriend Anya about his love for her that was beautiful. It made me swoon. :)

Lesley Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 12:31 AM EST

While I completely agree with all the love for Jim Halpert here, I would go a little more bad boy. My tv boyfriend is Spike from "Buffy." Sure, for a while there he would have rather killed me than kissed me. But when he gets that chip in his head and falls for Buffy, well, let's just say that dark, tortured passion works better on him than on Buffy's "supposed" soulmate Angel. Plus, he likes "Passions"! What's not to love?

Jim Halpert (very popular) just because he's so funny, smart and seems like a genuinely nice guy.

I would also date Owen Harper from (nerd alert!) "Torchwood." Again, he's smart, attractive and after he delivered that line to Gwen in the "Countrycide" episode ("when's the last time you **** so hard you forgot where you were?") you know he'd be an all around good, uh, mate.

Georgie Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:53 PM EST

Gil Grissom from CSI
Dexter Morgan from Dexter
Shemar Moore from anything he has been in. Ever.
The little geeky doctor from Criminal Minds. But I would crush him.
Sawyer from Lost.

Sue Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:42 PM EST

My main guy is Jim Halpert. Come on...a guy looks at you like that for 27 seconds and you say your cold????

Respectable mentions:
Dan from Gossip Girls
Mick St. John from Moonlight
Nathan Petrelli from Heroes
Jack Shepherd
Sayid
Dr. Peter Wilder from Private Practice

kristie Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:41 PM EST

1. Capt. Johnathan Archer (Star Trek Enterprise). He's a gung-ho, howdy little lady sorta man...and I've loved Scott Bakula since Quantum Leap

2. Trip (Star Trek Enterprise)-So sexy even aliens want him to have their babies (you have to see the episode)

3. Admiral AJ Chegwidden (JAG)- I love a man in uniform. He's old enough to be my dad, but that's ok by me!

grainger Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:16 PM EST

Dr. Carter from ER
Ned from pushing daisies..
dave foley from newsradio
chandler from friends..

Darma Boy Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:12 PM EST

Rayanne Graph- My So-Called Life. She's kinda slutty, so it'd be easy...

Bree Vandicamp/Hodge- Desperate Housewives. I sorta dig that neurotic obsessive compulsive thing she's got going on. As long as I use a coaster, I've got it easy...

Mary Camden- 7th Heaven. Because she ends up beging Jessica Biel...

Rob Grizzly Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:06 PM EST

1. Lendsay Weir from Freaks and Geeks. She was a little of column A, little of column B, sort of like myself. Our mutual need for fitting in would keep us hovering around each other until we just decided to start dating...

2. Al from Step by Step. She was the middle Lambert daughter who got hot near the series end. That Nickelback song, Animal? Yea, that'd be us...

3. Claire Bennet- Heroes. A little young, I know, but it's been a goal of mine to date a cheerleader. I'd threaten to expose her to the entire school if she didn't go out with me (teens hate that)!

Steph Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 11:05 PM EST

1. SAWYER from Lost. perfect in every way! suuure he's like 35 and I'm 18..but we'd make it work. totally. haha

2. Clark Kent from Smallville. Superman! no but i'd date pre-superman...good ol' farmer boy Clark. what's better than knowing when you'd trip someone would be there to catch you before you fall?

3. Charlie from Lost. closer to my age! and sure he's dead..but he's also 'here', eh? eh?

4. Uh..OOh that Michael dude from Prison Break. I've only seen this last season..interesting show, and he's well..a criminal..but a really nice and good one! hate that blueprint of a tattoo(which is what i think it's meant for, right?) he has. but we'd make it work.

yup.

If I can't have my #1 pick (the adorable and funny Jim Halpert,) I'd date Chandler from Friends, who's just as sarcastic as I am. We'd be a great match because I spend just as much time talking and drinking coffee as he does, and I'd let him keep that enormous, white dog sculpture in the middle of our living room. I'd also be more than happy to share his barcalounger with him while we were watching TV in our fabulous apartment in The Village.

Hartley Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 10:25 PM EST

Ok I have a couple...
-Jim Halpert from The Office (His pranks alone qualify him as my perfect mate)
-Lloyd from Undeclared (I know he's a ladies man, but the accent and the fact he's a theatre major win me over)
-Trent Lane from Daria (Yes, he's animated. But he's also in a band and has that sexy deep voice that always sounds like he just woke up)
-Seth from the O.C (Gotta love the comic obsessed)

Jim Halpert
Tim Riggins
Matt Saracen
Danny Taylor
Martin Fitzgerald
Coach Taylor
Seeley Booth
Dylan Mckay
Pacey Witter

I have to apologize for forgetting Dr. Joel Fleischman, the whiniest, cutest, smartest doctor in all of Alaska, aka, my TV soulmate, and Robert Downey Jr.'s character on Ally McBeal, who sang Joni Mitchell and made us all believe in true love.

E Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:38 PM EST

Give me some Tommy Gavin from Rescue Me for my bad girl side....and some Coach Eric Taylor from FNL for the good girl side.

SMN Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:24 PM EST

Greg Sanders-CSI. He's funny, cute, sweet, and endearing.
John Crichton-Farscape. He's sexy, smart, and so sarcastically funny.
Peter Petrelli-Heroes. He's sexy, got some amazing powers and still basically a good guy.

cme Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:15 PM EST

John Casey from Chuck. I, too, enjoy Love on the Rocks by Neil Diamond, plus he's soooooo cute.

DanOregon Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

1. Liz Lemon (we're soulmates)
2. Kristen Chenowith of Pushing Daisies (pure physical attraction, and I like musicals)
3. I'd take the entire female cast of Friday Night Lights with me and set up shop on "Big Love." I'm talking about the cast here, not the characters.

JMB Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:03 PM EST

Lex Luthor on Smallville - I've never been exposed to kryptonite. I'm not psychotic. Driving fast is a passion of mine. I love bald men and I greatly respect his knowledge of ancient history. I majored in it in college! He's Mine!

Rachael Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 09:03 PM EST

Gilbert Grissom from CSI

We'd make a great "team" cause he's quiet and introverted and I can be too but you can just see in those eyes that there's something more to him. There's a fire there that I'd love to build on. Yum. He's intelligent and has a quick sense of humor, sometimes biting sarcasm which I can definitely relate to. He loves his job and the people he works with and is a loyal type of guy.
Also he likes bugs so whenever there's a spider or something he can take it outside and examine it and I don't have to freak out. Plus he's older than me and I do have a soft spot for older men.

Come on ladies, he's just gorgeous and who doesn't want a gorgeous man.

Kirsten Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 08:59 PM EST

Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds- I have a thing for geeky, awkward smart guys with no social skills. All I would do is sit and stare and listen to him prattle on about mideivel poetry for hours and hours...

Stephanie Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 08:55 PM EST

My tv bf is Brad O'Keefe (Bret Harrison) from Grounded for Life. My sister calls him my tv boyfriend because he is so completely geeky and awkward that anybody could see me dating him. My roommate who had never seen the show with in two minutes knew he was my tv boyfriend. A close second is Seth Cohen from the O.C. We both celebrate Chrismukkah, are sarcastic and both love movies. I love the geek chic boys.

elvisglasses Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 08:48 PM EST

Glad I'm not the only one spending Black Thursday thinking about my TV crushes!
1) Jake Green (Jericho). No problem, I'll take some tortured past/family issues/defacto hero complex with my heaping doses of PRETTY PRETTY. Have you *seen* those eyes?? Gah! He's just the thing to keep you feeling safe and warm on a cold, post-apocalyptic night.
2) Marc Antony (Rome). It probably wouldn't be 'dating' so much as super shagalicious Roman toga fun.
3)Ah, Aidan (SATC). The. Perfect. Boyfriend. He's got the dog, the wit, the furniture making, the sweetness, the sexy. Need I go on?
And hon. mentions to my boys Mulder, Angel, and Vaughn. (You know who you are.) Thanks for the good times, fellas, but as you can see, I've moved on. ** What?!?? YOU left ME . . . remember??

Alex Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 08:41 PM EST

Pacey Witter-Dawson's Creek. He's loyal, smart, passionate, and funny. And just for funsies Olivia Benson-L&O-SVU for all the same reasons, though maybe not so funny.

K Thu, Feb 14, 2008 at 08:36 PM EST

I usually dig the older bad boys, like House and Sawyer, but I think Smash Williams is the guy for me right now. With all that self-righteous, brash, wreckless charisma behind that handsome face, Smash got it going on.

Oh, and Cpl. Eugene Roe (the medic, played by Shane Taylor) from Band of Brothers. Medically-trained, sweet, and Southern, I'd have followed him across the Western Front to just about anywhere.
