The strike's ripple effect: James Franco and Mila Kunis mimic The Hills

Nov 29, 2007, 05:02 PM | by Vanessa Juarez

Categories: Viral Video!!!, Writer's Strike

James Franco and Mila Kunis take one for the team in this Judd Apatow, Dave Bernad and Andrew Epstein-produced Funny Or Die video to show what the world would be like without its beloved screenwriters. It would be... apocalyptic. With 354 channels dedicated to The Hills, remote controls would be useless. Or can you imagine The Hills: The Movie playing at every movie theater? With a new sequel every week? (It wouldn't be much different from the original, maybe except for the fashion and the tint of their teeth.) But it'll be okay. The writers and moguls have to make a deal, right?

As you nervously rock back and forth in your chair, check out Franco and Kunis doing their thing as Justin and Audrina. Franco looks like he kidnapped and killed GnR's Slash, discarded the body and took his hair. And Kunis could use about five more pounds of eyeshadow and more tonal variations on the word "like" added to her lexicon. What do you think?

Hey Dish, you don't watch much MTV do you?

Levente Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 11:10 AM EST

Dish- the reason the that they used the f-bomb so much is because that's what Justin-Bobby did during their conversation. He actually said the words, "eff 'em. Literally." Which makes me think he wants to sleep with Lauren and Whitney, but whatever.... Anyway, sometimes spoofs and movies mimic a little too much I guess!

I have to applaud James Franco and Mila Kunis! That was a spot on impersonation of Audrina and Justin/Bobby. Perfect.

Sarah Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 09:47 AM EST

Mila is not wearing nearly enough eyeliner to be Audrina, but this was still hysterical!

Jill Fri, Nov 30, 2007 at 09:20 AM EST

I don't watch The Hills.....is this seriously all the show is about? Aside from that sad fact, this video was very funny.

Brandon Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 11:20 PM EST

Your "(!)" implied a surprise at James Franco's comic stylings. Have you never seen "Freaks and Geeks"?! Dude was hysterical on that show.

wow, they really nailed it

dish Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 09:13 PM EST

It was okay in the beginning and at the very very end. the whole middle part where they just started dropping the f-bomb wasn't funny though...at all. It's not funny to just say f@#$ over and over again. in all reality, this parody shouldn't have been made, not because of its quality, but because the hills shouldn't be on TV

Dana Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 07:24 PM EST

wow this is really embarrassing! I had a similar conversation with my "boyfriend" about two months ago, about the whole labels thing. I maintain that he should not have asked me what type of relationship we had at three in the morning, but still...shoot! I guess that when you start to recognize pieces of your relationship on spoofs of reality t.v. shows its time to start reevaluating a few things.

Maggs Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

That very last part at the end was exactly The Hills!! Awkawrd staring, mumbling, jibberish and using the word "like" a billion times.

EP Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 06:06 PM EST

Wow, that was hilarious! James Franco is Justin Bobby...

Rosie Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 05:56 PM EST

I don't think Kunis really nails Audrina. She needs big fake white teeth on too.

patti Thu, Nov 29, 2007 at 05:37 PM EST

I was always apathetic about the strike. Whatever, there's always books, old movies to catch up on. But whoa! This is the first video that really scared the crap out of me. I stopped watching reality shows 2 years ago because I decided if I was going to dedicate my time to somthing, I felt I should feel the effort, thought and creativity put behind it. Reality is just too easy and it's devolved into just plain old lazy. The Hills in the worst of it.
