Butt-Kicking Babes: You were right, we were wrong

Oct 18, 2007, 12:30 PM | by Marc Bernardin

Categories: Buffy, Ooops!

Buffy_l So, we made something of a boo-boo. An error. A lapse in judgment. A brain fart. And more than 50   100  200 300 of you took the time to let us know, in a thoughtful and measured manner. (And by "thoughtful" and "measured," I mean "loud" and "angry.")

Yes, we left Buffy Summers and Sydney Bristow off our 22 Butt-Kicking Babes List. Trust me when I say that it was not intentional, at all. My love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a matter of record. It pains me to realize that, in updating this gallery, I left off the Butt-Kicking-est Babe of All.

As for Sydney Bristow, I must admit that I'm not the biggest Alias fan. (In fact, I much prefer the Marvel comic book Alias to the show. But that's just me.) Still, that's no reason for exclusion so, in short order, we just updated that gallery to correct our oversight.

This is a testament to you, dear readers. Whether you think we do or not, we listen. To everything you say.

angela Wed, Jul 16, 2008 at 11:13 AM EST

No Lucy Lawless/Xena? Seriously? Even her name kicks ass. How could you have left her out? Have mercy.

Carl Poellnitz Thu, Feb 7, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

Uh, what about Angelina Jolie?

She got so buff for TR2:Cradle of Life taht she needed a MALE stunt double!!

And she has nice guns (I mean the .45s)

Then there is Mr. and Mrs. Smith!

maverick Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 07:18 PM EST

Still no Xena = no happy
c'mon guys you gotta do better than that

francine Thu, Oct 25, 2007 at 03:49 AM EST

sydney bristow should be at the top ten at least.

Michael B Sat, Oct 20, 2007 at 02:19 AM EST

Still more superior choices:
Anne Francis- Honey West;
Claudia Black- Farscape;
Amanda Tapping- Stargate SG1
Ryoko Yonekura- Gun Crazy
Yoko Matsuyma- Crimson Bat
Peggy Castle- Two-Gun Lady
Monica Vitti- Modesty Blaise
Maggie Q- Gen-Y Cops
The Powerpuff Girls
Sue Shiomi- Sister Streetfighter
Brigitte Lin- far too to count

Michael B Sat, Oct 20, 2007 at 12:58 AM EST

An utterly unbelievable screw-up in the orginal list.First, no Diana Rigg/Emma Peel. She was more convincing than Honor Blackman (if not by much- these earlier Avengers episodes only appeared over two decades latter. Emma Peel was the first sustaining character on American TV, who actually appeared capable of fighting hand-to-hand with a larger and stronger male opponent).

Second, No Sarah Michelle Gellar/Buffy Summers (or for that matter Eliza Duska).

Third, No Jennifer Garner/Sydney Briscoe.

Fourth, No Lucy Lawless/ZeniaWarrior Princess (maybe the title should have told you something).

Fifth, No Milla Jovich/Leelo- The Fifth Element.

Sixth, No Jessica Alba/Max- Dark Angel.

What could have possessed a rational mind to possibly include Michelle Pfeiffer's dreadful & wholly unconvincing turn as Catwoman?

Similarly, Michelle Ryan is simply not convincing in the maritial art scenes.I like Evangeline Lilly's performance on Lost but she's not a top butt-kicker.

BSF Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 06:59 PM EST

i agree where is xena, i mean come on, u hv women on that list who r part of shows that might not mk it past their first season and u forget about xena, who should be a the top of that list!?!?

Bill W Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 02:57 PM EST

OK-- you added Buffy and Sydney.
So where's Xena??

DR Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 09:59 AM EST

I'd get rid of the young lady from "Chuck", three episodes isn't enough to prove anything; replace with Darryl Hannah from "Kill Bill". I'd kick "Charlie's Angel's" off as well, although I'd keep Lucy Liu for her role as "O-Ren" in "Kill Bill, Vol 1". Oh, and ditch Michelle Pfieffer for Lucy Lawless; Michelle was an AWFUL Catwoman. Thanks for fixing the "Buffy" mistake, although I am not as rabid as everyone else; I agree with another poster than Sigourney Weaver really did pave the way for most of these up-and-comers and should be recognized for that.

Larry Peterson Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 09:41 AM EST

Keep an eye out for one Rebecca Neunswander (I know) who kicks some amazing butt in "Rigged" a small-budget, yet-to-be-picked-up for distribution (why?) film. She rocks!

Sam L Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 08:51 AM EST

Oh good. They fixed it. I still would have been okay with Ripley at #1, but both Buffy and Sydney deserved high marks, and now they have them...and yeah, Buffy is damn near close to #1, so it's fine.

Ann Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 08:44 AM EST

Buffy's at the top where she belongs!!
Sweet.

Robyn Harris Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 01:28 AM EST

Xena: Warrior Princess
Gabrielle: Amazon Princess
Callisto: Psycho Barbie

and who needs "Male Admirers" . . . ?

'nuff said.

Mont-real Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 01:24 AM EST

Umm, Jennifer Garner - without a doubt - for her role in Alias should be top 3, if not 1. She's the most convincing out of the bunch, if you ask me. And, yes, big oversight to exclude Lucy Lawless for Xena. Cheesy, sure, but no less cheesy than ridiculous Sarah Michelle Gellar for Buffy (I do agree she belongs on the list, though - well, maybe along with her stunt doubles).

Reggie Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 09:51 PM EST

Well, okay, props for Buffy -- but mising Xena of all women? And let me put in a plug for Claudia Black as either Aeryn Sun of Farscape or Vala from the Stargate series. If ever there were a butt-kicking SciFi woman out there, I'd vote her for the throne.

Additionally: Wonder Woman, Faith from BTVS, Princess-freaking-Leia? Come now.

Ashleigh Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 09:45 PM EST

Glad to see Sydney and Buffy on there, thanks for correcting that. Although I will agree Sigourney Weaver should have remained #1 for Aliens. oh well, just goes to show you can't please anyone ever. :)

Gabs Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 08:09 PM EST

Any list of butt-kicking babes with no Xena in sight is inherently flawed. And Buffy at #1? Please.

Famke Janssen as Jean Grey would also be a good addition, but rectifying the Xena mistake would be enough.

Di Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 07:50 PM EST

I'm happy that you fixed the list and put Buffy and Sydney in. Buffy especially. I still think you left out Xena but thanks for fixing the list!

Zachariah Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 06:38 PM EST

O & i forgot one...What about Amy Acker from the Final season of Angel...she became Illerya...& she kicked some major a...butt....

Zachariah Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 06:32 PM EST

I agree with Buffy being number one but where are Xena, Wonder Woman, Jessica Alba (as both The invisible woman and Dark Angel)...i dont really care about the latter 2 being ther ebut what about Xena, shes the Warrior Princess ya know...

Jessica Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 06:28 PM EST

Thank you for correcting that heinous error, no list of butt-kicking gals is complete without Buffy(!) or Sydney(who should have been higher, by the way). I still think there's room for improvement-say buh-bye to the Charlie's Angels girls and the new Bionic Woman(so ridiculous I don't even know her name) and give a shot to Eliza Dushku as Faith, any of the Death Proof girls(especially Zoe Bell), and Jessica Alba as Max. Dark Angel is the one good thing she's done in her career(okay, and The Secret World of Alex Mack). I believe that deserves kudos.

Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 06:03 PM EST

This list is still a joke as long as charlie's angels is on here.

Lynn Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 06:01 PM EST

Buffy will always be my first choice but what about:
Rachel Luttrell as Teyla in Stargate Atlantis
Christina Cox as Vicki Nelson in Blood Ties

Anna von Ovonov Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 06:01 PM EST

Thanks for correcting the error. Of course the "slayer" belongs at the top of the list. But conspicuously missing are still "Xena", of course, and does no one remember Diana Rigg as Emma Peel? Smooth as Ivory, hard as steel? She clearly meets the requirements, being both "Butt-Kicking" and a "Babe". And extremely adept at both. Probably just an oversight.

Lance Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:29 PM EST

LAAAAAAAAAAME! Sigourney Weaver should've stayed number one. Without her, there would be none of these other modern day Rambettes.

Bernard Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:18 PM EST

As my initial anger over the snubs subsides, I still ask:

Sydney Bristow. Number ELEVEN? What? Eleven? Not 3? Not 5? Not 4? Eleven? What? What?

Un-f*****g-believable.

jay Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:12 PM EST

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I went through the list and became deeply disturbed when Buffy didn't show...at all. But it takes a REAL magazine (or website) to rectify a serious (HORRIBLE! EGREGIOUS!) error.

name Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:07 PM EST

C'mon, Chuck has what? 3 episodes aired? And she makes the list but no Xena, Lara Croft or Agent Scully?

Devin Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:07 PM EST

I'm going to agree that Sydney Bristow could have been a little higher. I mean, she could at least have been in front of Catwoman and Trinity.

Devin Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:07 PM EST

I'm going to agree that Sydney Bristow could have been a little higher. I mean, she could at least have been in front of Catwoman and Trinity.

Rafa Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 05:06 PM EST

Sidney should be higher!!!
Still missing Xena...

Tai Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:55 PM EST

And shoot. Gina Torres.
Let's forget her freaky-ness in Angel and think of the scary bad-assness of Cleopatra 2525, or the sensible warrior woman of Firefly.

Tai Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:51 PM EST

-Eliza Dushku in Buffy
-Halle Berry in the X-Men series AND in James Bond.
-Alyssa Milano's surprisingly beyond passable martial arts skills in Charmed.
-Lucy Lawless, in everything she's ever done? No. Seriously. In Xena.
-Might as well mention Renee O'Connor and the other Charmed Ones because they had their pretty good ass-kicking moments too.
-And lastly (cause that is all I can think of at the moment) Amanda Tapping in the Stargate series.
She had guns. She was super-military woman. She has a HUGE brain. Need I say more. She kicked major ass, both physical and intellectual.

Telly B Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:45 PM EST

Seriously, one of the ways in which I personally rate film/TV "butt kicking" action heroines, is how convincing they look doing all the stunts, action scenes, etc and how convincing they look overall, in terms of bidy language, physical prowess, etc.
For that reason alone, Buffy shouldn't be in the top 5, let alone # 1.
Of the entire list, she was the "butt kicking heroine" with the least convincing attitude and the largest amount of obviously stunt-and-special-effects created action scenes.

Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider or Mr And Mrs Smith, Uma Thurman in Kill Bill and Sigourney Weaver in ALIEN/ALIENS should be # 3, 2 and # 1, basically because they "acted" all those action scenes with the totality of their bodies and minds.
Any of those three women are thoroughly convincing as gun-toting/sword/wielding/monster-smashing warriors, as opposed to the fake-looking, wink-and-a-nod-laden theatrics of Buffy.

Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:31 PM EST

Is it just me, or is the picture for Katee Sakhoff NOT really her?

Darth Nihilus Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:21 PM EST

Re: Q-A

Whatever I want.

Any list is biased from the POV of the listmaker - decide for yourself.

One could argue Foxy Cleopatra or Coffy is the #1 butt-kicker, it all depends on one's POV...

nose Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:21 PM EST

Nice try, but no. Jennifer Garner is the butt-kickingest chick out there. She did almost all of her own stunts, she didn't depend solely on wires and she got beat up herself on more than one occasion. She is tough, has the toned physique to prove it, could shoot, run, fight, and bring the bad guys down wearing a bra and panties. She is number one.

Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:21 PM EST

Zoe or River on Firefly!

Samantha Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:19 PM EST

Why was Xena not added? Seriously?! Her chakram and pressure point thingy that she did were AMAZING! Actually, your list is in a severe need of a redo. You should have 2 lists: one for movie heroines and one for tv heroines. That would save you a lot of grief.

treee Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:11 PM EST

i didnt look through the whole list the first time but figured sydney bristow had to be on there! glad they fixed it though

Lily Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:10 PM EST

Improved, but bias still shows. Had Marc watched an episode of Alias, Sydney would be higher. SpyFamily (the Bristows) were my favorites. Still, I agree why include women from Chuck, Heroes or even Bionic Women. Their legacy or even a full year renewal have not been guaranteed.

chels Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:06 PM EST

Godd job on fixing it. Can't say I agree with Sydney's placement, but I digress.

Now, for who you left out...

:Kate Beckinsale in Underworld
:Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith or the Tomb Raider series
:Milla Jovovich in 5th Element or the Resident Evil seres
:Eliza Dushku in Buffy
:Famke Janssen and/or Halle Berry in the X-Men series

(also, thank you for realizing the badass-ness that is Ali Larter on Heroes. She doesn't get nearly enough credit)

Q-A Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:04 PM EST

So moron, what are you doing posting here?

And it's good you added Buffy, but seriously, how could you forget her in the first place????

Snsetblaze Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:01 PM EST

I am glad you added Buffy and Sydney to the list but it still misses others and the new BW, and Sara from Chuck and a few others should be taken off. However, I still think Ellen Ripley should be #1, Buffy #2, and even though I have never watched a full episode of Alias, Sydney should be #5 or 6 behind Michele Yoeh and Zhang Ziyi. (The Bride is just right but I'm a Katee Sackoff fan and would hate to see her bumped down unless it was by Xena.)

Darth Nihilus Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 04:01 PM EST

Ohhh - a new, pointless list.

Decide for yourselves, sheep - don't let a rag like EW tell you what to like.

Michael Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:59 PM EST

Thank you so much for fixing the list...I won't b**ch and gripe about it cause there are still some mistakes, but for now the list is complete.

Stephanie T. Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:53 PM EST

Lola, both Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg are mentioned so Emma Peel got her props.

Sam Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:51 PM EST

Add Leela from Futurama and Xena, and put Sydney higher and your list will finally be fairly accurate!

john Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:44 PM EST

FINALLY. i waited the entire list for buffy and then she wasn't there... and i was deeply saddened. but now she is, and it makes me super happy. yay for making the right choice and giving a shout-out to one of the best butt kickers ever!

Lola Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:34 PM EST

What about Emma Peel?????

mike Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:23 PM EST

It's good the subtle hints about Buffy and Sydney Bristow worked. But, without the brains, beauty and butt-kicking ability of Emma Peel, they wouldn't have made it on the air.
If your under 40, check out BBC America for the Avengers. Diana Rigg was the equal to her partner and the reruns got me through adolescense.

Josh B. Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:14 PM EST

Rose mcgowan in Planet Terror.. she rocks even before she gets a machine gun for a leg.

Lisa Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:11 PM EST

Seriously? Buffy is number 1? Sarah Michelle Gellar? The ORIGINAL Kendall Hart of "All My Children"? Get real. Sydney Bristow would destroy her.

SARKLOVA Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:07 PM EST

Amen, MIZZ BRISTOW!

MIZZ BRISTOW!!! Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:04 PM EST

Thanks for the add EW! However, if Marc had watched at least one episode of Alias, Sydney Bristow would be at #1! She is the real CHOSEN ONE!

diego b Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 03:00 PM EST

Good... im glad people spoke out. Buffy will be buffy for ever and #1. "She saved the world, a lot" like they said on season 6. Plus come on, she was the chosen one, for that matter Faith kicked ass too... so she should be 25! she went sicko for a little

loyal reader Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:55 PM EST

what, no lucy lawless as xena?!

Emilee Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:54 PM EST

YAY! The people have spoken and Buffy is at Number 1 where she belongs!!!!!

Stephanie T. Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:33 PM EST

Sven is right. The English movie Femme was Bridget Fonda. Peta came much later. And Anne out kicked them both.

Sven Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:17 PM EST

Sorry, meant JustMe

Sven Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:16 PM EST

Justmen,

There was (and is) only ONE La Femme Nikita, and that's Anne Parillaud from the film. While Peta Wilson was an improvement over the embarassment of Bridget Fonda in Point Break, she is nothing next to the original.

Right under your nose Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:03 PM EST

Thanx for the fix. But it wouldn't have been necessary if you guys weren't off looking for as many golden era, 50s, 60s chicks to show some sort of artsy credibility. more women kicked ass in the 90s and today than any time before- sometimes you just need to look right in front of your own face

JustMe Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 02:02 PM EST

Where is Peta Wilson as Nikita from USA's La Femme Nikita? Sydney Barstow has nothing on Jospehine from a smokin' hot man with perfect French (who could forget Michael and everything they went through together??) to hot hooker outfits to a rockin soundtrack! Peta Wilson created the path of butt-kickin' females on TV!

robert Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 01:52 PM EST

BUFFY LIVES. thank you for correcting the glaring oversight that BUFFY IS the MAJOR ASS KICKING BABE OF ALL TIME! could not believe that girl from CHUCK and the new bionic woman made the list after 3 episodes and BUFFY a cultural icon for 7 YEARS was left off!

sharon Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 01:44 PM EST

Thank you for fixing this. Now that Buffy's there, I have inner calm. The others who really should've been on this list:
1. Xena (no explanation needed)
2. Lara Croft (her movies are among the most successful female-centered action films)
3. Emma Peel (butt-kicking pioneer)
4. Princess Leia (another tough, strong, bad ass pioneer)
5. Milla J. in the 5th Element

As for Wonder Woman: I think the problem is that -- yes, the comic book Wonder Woman kicks butt, but Linda Carter just wasn't a bad ass. (The same issue stands for Sue Storm -- fierce fighter in the comics, but kind of lame in the movies.) As for the calls for Faith & Willow, 3 on Battlestar Gallactica, Lena Olin et. al. from Alias, I think you should simply add an "Other Butt-Kicking Babes" section to the bios you did because shows cool enough to have great women heroes tend to have more than 1.

Stephanie Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 01:34 PM EST

I cannot believe that I have been obsessed with checking this list for 2 days just to see if EW responded to the outrage. Sydney should be ranked higher, no doubt, but major props for fixing the initial lapse in judgement.

John W Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 01:19 PM EST

You still have some atoning to do because you still left off Xena the Warrior Princess.

Kristi Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 01:08 PM EST

I'm just gonna pretend that #11 means that Sydney is #1 twice.

Ron Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 01:04 PM EST

Xena gets my vote. Trivia- An African
slave girl spirit "possessed" Xena with a good spirit and she became the great buttkicker she is!!! FYI.

nancy b Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:57 PM EST

i agree with JenJen. absolutely. sydney could beat all of these babes' a**es.

Sherry Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:51 PM EST

Much better than before but you are still missing Jessica Alba as Max in Dark Angel. Nothing like a genetically engineered soldier that can kick your butt without breaking a sweat. She should definitely be on this list instead of some of the other "Babes".

Laura Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:49 PM EST

Love the addition of Buffy - but STILL no wonder woman??

COME ON!

Maeve Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:44 PM EST

Ok, since I am in good company with other Buffy/SMG fans...wouldn't it be so awesome if they wrote her a part on Heroes?

Lee Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:42 PM EST

Still no Xena?? Come on EW... The woman kicked the God of War's a**

Sven Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:40 PM EST

While glad to see Buffy and Sydney on the list, I don't agree that Buffy should be in the top spot (nor should Sigourney Weaver's Ripley character). I think Uma Thurman's Bill could decimate Ripley. As to proper spot for Buffy, definitely in the top five. And Sydney Bristow? Eleven is about right; although I would put her above Honor Blackman's Pu**y Galore. But I would remove the new Bionic Woman, the chick from Chuck, the Charlie's Angels trio, Ali Larter's Heroes character, and finally Evangeline Lilly's character on Lost.

Mozz Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:40 PM EST

Yes, Buffy should be number 1, Whenever Ellen Ripley starts being referred to as THE CHOSEN ONE, she can, maybe be considered, as far a Sidney being on the list, Yes, she should be, but Number 1... probably not... let's just face it, she wasn't kicking so much bootay towards the weak and final season.

Susan Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:37 PM EST

I guess you're forgiven. ;)

Donovan Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:36 PM EST

Where is Geena Davis from 'The Long Kiss Goodnight'? C'mon, EW...when she drives the truck through the wall and says, "Suck my d--k!"...Only a butt-kicking babe could pull off that line.

Joe C Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:34 PM EST

Okay, all of the complaining I've done about your lists, and this time we get it changed, lol. Your music lists are far worse than your TV/Movie lists, EW. At least you had Sigourney Weaver number 1, which was good.
So could we get Kate from Lost dropped from the Butt Kicking list and replace her with Max, Jessica Alba? Not only could Max REALLY kick butt, she's far better looking. Am I asking for too much here?

Jer Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:25 PM EST

No Wonder Woman or Xena, you forgot Buffy the first time around, but Kate from Lost and the girl from Chuck? Again proving why lists are a stupid idea.

You have the new Bionic Woman, but not the original? What, you couldn't include the chick from Manimal? You guys need to knock this crap off. Payola.

JenJen Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:19 PM EST

Okay, I can't believe that you would think that Buffy was more deserving than Sydney. INSANITY! Buffy's a little 90-pound pip squeak. Jennifer Garner had the MUSCLES to make her action scenes believeable. And Sydney's fight scenes were choreographed so that she used anything available to make-up for what she lacked in size. Her fight in the kitchen with Peter Berg was AMAZING....knives, cutting boards, pans, etc. They didn't try and make us believe that a woman could knock a man out with a single punch. Sydney was resourceful, and that is was made her so tough. She should be #1.

Trixie Firecracker Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:16 PM EST

You forgot that Xander is in love with Buffy.

Manuel Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:15 PM EST

THANK YOU!!! You got it right this time.

j Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:11 PM EST

Andrew-Just because you do not have the capacity to fully appreciate how awesome Buffy was, does not mean she is any way on the same level as Xena.

I couldn't believe they left Buffy off the original list. The new Charlie's Angels, Ali Larter (the most boring character on Heroes) and the girl from Chuck, but not Buffy - a cult icon?! Shame on you EW...but thanks for fixing it.

Mells Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:10 PM EST

While I have stepped off the ledge and calmly started breathing again now that Sydney is on the list I have to ask: What are the qualifications to which you compared Sydney against 1-10 and she was found lacking?!?!?!? Not even in the top 3? Not even in the top 5? Fricken ELEVEN! Marc - please do me a favor and borrow someone's seasons 1 & 2 of Alias to see why we are all so enamored of our SpyGal and her SpyDaddy.

Now, as for the sequel to this list, please don't forget:
Agent Scully
Faith
Princess Leia
Xena
Wonder Woman
Samantha Caine(Geena Davis)
Selene (Kate Beckinsale)
Alice (Milla Jovovich)
Jane Smith (Angie Jolie)
Thx for the mea culpa - I'll keep reading!

Andrew Bumstead Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:04 PM EST

come on! Lt. Ellen Ripley could beat the crap out of that wimpy little waif of a "vampire slayer." Sigourney Weaver was the most convincing female action heroine ever. You might as well put Xena warrior princess as #1 if you're going to put Buffy above Sigourney!

Crystal Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:04 PM EST

It takes a big man to admit when he's made a mistake, and I'm glad you fessed up and admitted yours. Buffy ascends the throne at #1 where she belongs. My mind is peaceful once again.

Shona Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:01 PM EST

How can you leave off Xena?????

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 12:00 PM EST

All is right with world. Buffy has rightfully retaken her throne. You are forgiven EW!

Ben S Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 11:59 AM EST

Whilst I appreciate you adding Jennifer Garner to the list i've gotta take exception to her placing at #11, c'mon! She deserves to be way higher than that.

denny Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 11:57 AM EST

I still say that Miho from Sin City kicks more butt than the chick from Chuck. "Deadly little Miho. She won't let you feel a thing unless she wants you to." And she cuts off a guy's head, gets her face splattered with blood, and doesn't blink! Come on! How many of the other gals on this list can you say things like that about?

Also, add another Rodriguez babe: Rose McGowan as Cherry Darling in Planet Terror. What is more bada$$ than a stripper with a machine gun for a leg? Nothing, that's what.

Wayne Coyne Looks Like Jesus...or a Bee Gee Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 11:56 AM EST

Xena should be up there, but i the critic named every singles person or character, the list would be huge. I still say Cynthia Rothrock was dissed big time.

Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 11:54 AM EST

Thank You EW. Though Sydney should have been number 2.

jubilena Thu, Oct 18, 2007 at 11:54 AM EST

I was so happy to see Buffy at #1! Also, the inclusion of Syndey Bristow was nice to see (#11 is fair, I think).

Sydney Bristow should have been higher.

I don't know why, but there was a sudden sense of inner calm and peace. Seeing Buffy on the list, exactly were she belongs was a Zen like moment.

Buffy at #1 is exactly where she deserves to be! However, the list is still a dud without Xena. She could take out half your list with one hand tied behind her back. Speaking of Xena, Calisto wouldn't be a bad addition either. Was she good? No, but she sure could kick butt and looked awesome doing it.

Well, Sydney shoulda been #1 in my book, but I'm just happy you listened. I'm also going to pretend she was #1. Because she is.

What about Turanga Leela from Futurama? She may be animated, on a comedy show, but she can still kick some serious butt (and without the benefit of a second eye or depth perception)!

Better but Xena is still missing. Doesn't a top 25 sound like a nice round number.
