Jessica Biel as Wonder Woman?

Sep 26, 2007, 08:00 AM | by Gary Susman

Categories: Deals, Film

Ww_l So... Jessica Biel as Wonder Woman? She's certainly hot enough and athletic enough. Also, one-of-the-guys enough to hold her own on screen with fellow Justice Leaguers Batman and Superman. Acting-wise, jury is probably still out. Is she regal enough to play an Amazonian princess? Probably not, but then, who is? C'mon, fanboys and fangirls, it's Lasso of Truth time, so weigh in below.

Emily Blunt is too small.

evilkneil Thu, Apr 10, 2008 at 10:54 AM EST

Emily Blunt would be PERFECT.

Angela Tue, Oct 30, 2007 at 05:15 PM EST

Oh yes I definately believe Cerina Vincent from Cabin Fever is the best bet!!!

Mel Tue, Oct 16, 2007 at 09:35 AM EST

Lauren Graham gets my vote. And I DO believe she is regal enough to play the part. Too bad they're going the "young" route or I would have cast her.

Hector Wed, Oct 3, 2007 at 11:11 AM EST

How about Cerina Vincent from Cabin Fever?

bret77 Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 04:34 PM EST

I feel the same way as long as Wally West is the Flash I am happy. I hope the people in DC are trying to make a great movie instead of get big names. You can always tell if the directors don't know anything about the character because they will use Barry name with Wally's personality. That only makes everyone angry. It would be smart for the directors to listen to some of the past writers like Waid for Flash, Dan for Superman, and Miller for Batman. But for Wonder Woman how about casting Ali Larter. She can definetly play a strong willed woman and she has the sex appeal. Dye the hair and you have winner.

Jen Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 01:36 PM EST

I think Jennifer Garner could probably pull off Wonder Woman, she has the fair skin and natural brunette..besides she was a kick ass Elektra!!Or maybe even Megan Fox..As for the Green Lantern I think Denzel or Dwayne "The Rock" would be a good choice.

Jack Sat, Sep 29, 2007 at 12:44 PM EST

Nadia Bjorlin is the best and only choice to play Wonder Woman. Beil was a awefull choice. All body and no substance. Nadia is the total package. Looks and an inner beauty.

Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 10:58 AM EST

Perfect for the look, don't know about the acting: Ercia Durance

Anonymous Fri, Sep 28, 2007 at 08:39 AM EST

I like Biel, but this role would be a major mistake for her.

Omaar Thu, Sep 27, 2007 at 06:23 PM EST

Jessica Biels is not the charecter "Wonder Woman"...

She's "Hawk Girl" but not "Wonder Woman"

She's not Tall Enough...

Not a Full Figured "Amazon Queen"

Not a Natural Dark Haired Brunette.

Not to mention that Full Rounded Face needed for the role.

She has a Nice A!! & Beautiful Full Lips...

But She's no "Wonder Woman"

kimberly Thu, Sep 27, 2007 at 05:44 PM EST

i agree with eliza dushku. acting chops, the look, and the "right age"

alternatives: jennifer garner, lena headey

gg Thu, Sep 27, 2007 at 04:46 PM EST

The role of wonder woman: Catherine Bell. Simple, Juxtapose Linda Carter and, Nuff said:)

Kathleen Thu, Sep 27, 2007 at 09:02 AM EST

Monica. Freakin. Belucci.
WW isn't necessarily a spring chicken, so why worry about the age of the actress? Lynda Carter didn't look like an early 20's WW, so why should the new one? And let's face it - Belucci looks better at 40 than most of us did when we were 18.

Snsetblaze Thu, Sep 27, 2007 at 12:20 AM EST

I agree with the comments about Eliza Dushku being a good candidate.

Rey Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:28 PM EST

wonder woman is an amazon. so she has to be tall. she cant be too young.probably 25-30. so i would go with biel.

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 08:54 PM EST

Jessica Biehl is NOT right for this part. Go with an UKNOWN!! if not, maybe Bellucci or Dushku. too bad Zeta-Jones isn't younger.

Martin Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 08:47 PM EST

Jennifer Connelly would be a great actress for the part... however, I wonder if she would be any good with the action. She certainly has the look down.

Nathan Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 06:32 PM EST

Biel certainly has the body for it, and what else do you need? It's not like you have to be Meryl freakin' Streep to play a super hero. I'm on board!

Blythe Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 05:18 PM EST

No. No, no, no, no, no. NO.
That pretty much sums up how I feel about it.

vw Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 04:54 PM EST

This scares me. I LOVED Wonder Woman, Linda Carter , growing up. I'm scared whatever they do they'll just ruin it like so many shows.

I reiterate Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 04:47 PM EST

Biel doesn't excite me at all. And Mandy Moore excites me even less. UGH! Get an unknown!

Amy Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 04:07 PM EST

Gina Torres.

bebop Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 03:35 PM EST

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Mandy Moore. tall, not skeletor and as good at acting as Linda Carter was.

Stef Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 03:27 PM EST

If they use Biel I'm going to have to invoice the studio so I can get my Wonder Woman tattoo removed. I've had it since '02 and I don't know that I can walk around with dignity knowing I've got Biel rockin' the title character for my tat.

Eco Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 03:21 PM EST

How about Sarah Lancaster? I just saw Chuck and think she would make an excellent Wonder Woman.

jpt Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 02:05 PM EST

Tisa, you are out of the group.

Tisa Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 01:57 PM EST

What no Catherine Zeta-Jones?!?! She is tall and curvy!!

db Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 01:42 PM EST

Good, not great choice. I think with the right hair and costume, she could pull off the look--she just needs to portray WW's duality, i.e. regal/warrior. I'm sure there's the perfect unknown actress out there. Kate Beckinsale would be a horrible choice, as would Charisma or Mariska--too old. Morena Baccarain--not beautiful enough. It's a shame Monica Bellucci is 40, because SHE is the perfect Wonder Woman.

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 01:37 PM EST

The girl in the transformers is just hot. she is not a good actor.

Bill Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 01:25 PM EST

How about the chick in Transformers?

Tom Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 01:15 PM EST

I think The Rock should play WW. That would be awesome, he fits the Amazonian role!

Chip Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:42 PM EST

Hell no to either of the Jessica's or most of the people mentioned. My personal choices would be Karen Cliche, plays Baylin in the new flash gordon or Kristana Loken. But i would prefer casting an unknown or a lesser know actress.

Yo Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:41 PM EST

If it were Beckinsall she'd always be compared to her Underworld character. Same as Sarah M. Gellar. A it's been said, they should go with an unknown so we the audience, and they the critics, can't make comparisons to the other 'power' roles they've done. Makes perfect sense.

Dinosaur Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:38 PM EST

I think Eliza Dushku could pull it off.

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:36 PM EST

Jessica Biel should be Catwoman. There is no sexiness in Wonder Woman so the right part for Jessica is Catwoman.

ceej Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:07 PM EST

She's got the bod, but that face is Fugalicious.

Team Beckinsale!

Sean Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:05 PM EST

I personally think Biel is not the right choice for wonder woman. She might be one of the few actresses being named that has the height but their are much better out there. I would name my first two choices as Missy Peregrym, though she is a little short at 5'8, and Mary Elizabeth Winnstead. Anyone saw her in Die Hard 4 knows she has the edge to play wonder woman.

As far as Tom Welling as Superman and Ryan Reynolds as the Flash, Heck ya as long as it is Wally West flash not Barry or Bart Allen.

jess Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:01 PM EST

i like the suggestion of rosario dawson, she's a great actress and i don't think it would be hard to make her look similar to the original. i don't think it's necessary that the actress look exactly like the older character. example - halle berry as cat woman

to geemoney Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 12:00 PM EST

I say Rosario Dawson is too old cause the Wonder Woman character is supposed to be around 19-24.
For the record I think Rosario Dawson is the perfect age.

OMGSTOP Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:55 AM EST

Stop Making these super hero movies. JB is FUG, LC was/is Beautiful as WW. But if it has to be done I'll go with some of the other posters here. Go with an Unknown. Especially dont go with Beil or Alba or Charisma or Emily Blunt (WTF) especially no Mcphee. But actually it does not matter, I wouldnt go to the movies to see it anyway. Hollywood will stink it up.

Jakeem Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:55 AM EST

Jessica's certainly got one of the sexiest voices in show business, just right for an Amazonian princess.
One of the great moments in recent television history was when her voice lowered sometime between Season 1 and Season 2 of "7th Heaven"!

mary Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:50 AM EST

I think Jessica Alba could do it, look how well she did in Dark Angel!!

Justme Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:47 AM EST

Yuck, no way, can't see it and JB is a TERRIBLE actress!! What is it with Hollywood, they wouldn't know talent if it hit 'em. Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Eva Mendes, all below average actresses, yet somehow they get roles (like Jennifer Aniston, why she's still getting gigs each year I'll never know). Hollywood producers are idiots, think the public just wants a pretty face but no acting chops.

GeeMoney Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:41 AM EST

And since when did Rosario Dawson become too old?!?!?!?!? She's only 28!

Lest I forget the trend in Hollywood....if you are over 25, your career is over! Geez, people.

Sarah Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:23 AM EST

Neither Biel or Alba can act. For those of you supporting Emily Blunt, do you even know who Wonder Woman is? Please boot anyone named Jessica to the curb. They are just awful.

Joe C Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:20 AM EST

One more thing: If not Jessica Biel, how about Charlize Theron????? She is hotter and is just as good an actress. Of course, after Aeon Flux, forget about it, but I actually thought that movie was good. Guess I'm the only one, huh?

Joe C Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:16 AM EST

I actually think she is a good choice. Like some other people here, I certainly don't get it when people say Jessica Biel is sexy. She looks like an athlete, kind of like Kate from Lost. But I think she can act. Jessica Alba is far better looking, but she has already been in Fantastic Four. I guess this post is the definition of a 'backhanded compliment' but Jessica Biel is good for this part!

Ceballos Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:14 AM EST

I LOVE the Emily Blunt suggestion, because it would continue the positive trend of casting good actors (like Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale and Edward Norton) first in superhero roles, then worrying about whether they "look" the part.

Also, Gina Torres would good.

furry_tom Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:11 AM EST

I think the only actress who has the appropriate of balance gravitas, comedic timing and devastating beauty is Bea Arthur. She can tie me up with her lasso of truth any time.

Alexis Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:07 AM EST

Famke Janssen. I know she might be too old but she's perfect! Biel can't act her way out of a paper bag - nevermind the Amazon.

JFStan Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:05 AM EST

The Justice League film will not come to fruition in its currently planned form. It will not work as a live action film, as it would be a franchise killer. There's more money to be made from individual characters, and not enough money to pay good actors to make a movie with many popular characters (not to mention the SFX budget). It will end up as an animated film or just die on its own.

C Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 11:00 AM EST

How about Emily Blunt? She'd need to beef up a bit, but she can act.

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:55 AM EST

RE: Mariska Hargitay
So you're really thinking of someone in her early 40's.

MM Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:55 AM EST

I think Jessica Biel will do fine. Looking at alternatives though--I would go with Jennifer Garner, who has already proven her ability to kick butt. I hope Jennifer doesn't go for it/get it though so she won't continue to be type cast and because superhero roles are usually cheesy...

Nix Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:55 AM EST

Oh, wait, NO -- Hargitay looks like Hippolyta, WW's mom. Wait, what's the storyline here anyway? Is it the Perez reboot where the Greek God Ares is manipulating the world to the brink of Armageddon and Wondy has to stop him? That was originally a US-Russia thing but that might work for today in a US-Al Qaeda thing. You could replace the Deimos-possessed American general in the comic with, I dunno, a Deimos-possessed vice president...

Beetle Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:53 AM EST

Monica Bellucci.

(I expect this will stir up the anthill, but I'm surprised at all the "Kate Beckinsale" suggestions. Way too brittle, both in appearance and acting style, to work as Wonder Woman. Oh, and Jessica Alba has nowhere near the acting chops.)

Nix Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:51 AM EST

Is this supposed to be like Batman Begins and Superman Returns, where everybody is kinda young? Because when I think Wonder Woman, I think she looks like late twenties early thirties. Actually I'm thinking Mariska Hargitay.

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:50 AM EST

No offense to Jessica Biehl, but I just don't see it at all. This is a classic strong superhero role and I just don't see the look or the strength behind her as a choice for Wonder Woman and am disappointed that she is being considered. I say either go with an unknown who has the whole package or maybe Kate Beckinsale or Meghan Fox in terms of looks and presence. Again no offense Jessica, but I just don't think she fits this role well at all and I've been a fan of Wonder Woman since I was a kid.

Kara Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:47 AM EST

Morena Baccarin is perfect. She is regal and classy while still having an edge and can kick the crap out of anyone, both physically as well as mentally. Jessica Biel is the worst choice. Stop just looking at her. Look at her personality and her acting. Wonder Woman does not just kick butt, she is a diplomat. I cannot see Jessica Biel as a diplomat.

Moo Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:40 AM EST

I think she would be great. I didn't think she was a very good actress until I saw her in the Illusionist with Edward Norton. She held her own and can def play regal.

Colbea Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:35 AM EST

Kate Beckinsale! Shes sexy, tough and has the look. Jessica is too cutsie. Wonder Woman is as tough as Supman and it you need a strong actress!

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:30 AM EST

I just don't get Jessica Biel. I've never thought she was that attractive, and she's terrible in the movies she's done. I really just don't see why people think she's so hot.

amac Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:22 AM EST

mark in nyc ... Rasario Dawson would be perfect for Cheetah.. Beautiful .. Exotic.. Yeah she would pull it off..

mark in nyc Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 10:18 AM EST

I second Rosario Dawson...but she might be a touch too old for it now.
Who knows, this could be Jessica Biels star making role!
For those of youwho dont like her..shewas very goodin the Illusionist last year...showed that she actually had some acting chops as opposed tobeing just another hot actress

C B H Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:57 AM EST

Lucy Lawless or Morena Baccarin - screen-test those two, do some readings. I think both could be Diana.

Carrie Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:57 AM EST

I agree on Charisma Carpenter. She's gorgeous, confident, and was great as part of an ensemble cast. Granted, I still wish this would go back to Joss Whedon. That man can definitely work with a strong female character.

amac Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:53 AM EST

I'm happy with choice .. She is beautiful and tall .. Jessica Biel is a perfect choice .. But who should be cast as her super villian arch-enemy ..Cheetah ?? Thats the question !!!

Kevin Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:52 AM EST

Jessica Biel used to be attractive. Then she lost a little weight and she was hot. Then she lost more weight and she now looks like the crypt keeper. Just look at that picture above. What happened to her? Wonder Woman needs to be womanly, not emmaciated (that means Jessica Alba is out too).

Tisa Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:47 AM EST

Sorry but Jessica Biel would be a horrible choice. I honestly can't picture anyone but Lynda Carter because she looked just like I would picture Wonder Woman to look. If I had to chose I guess I would say either Catherine Zeta Jones or the Megan Fox girl from Transformers. I also think that Katherine McPhee from American Idol would look good if they gave her blue contacts but who knows if she can act...

michelle Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:46 AM EST

I think you need to find a totally unknown person, somebody new, who can fit the character. None of today's actresses have the stature to play the Amazonian role like Linda Carter did (if it must be re-made at all). Let's have a casting call like the old days to "find" someone.

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:45 AM EST

jessica biel is overrated. next.

Ames Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:36 AM EST

I think JB is a good choice, but I would really rather this movie not be made. I shudder to think how WW's sisterhood credo will be watered down. But physically speaking, the actress has to be pretty big in stature to believe she's the leader of amazons.

Jayeldub Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:33 AM EST

Yea, I just don't get the appeal of Jessica Biel. blah

Amber Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:33 AM EST

Sorry, but no way. She should not and cannot play Wonder Woman. I'd much rather see Beckinsale or Alba.

Will Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:26 AM EST

Growing up with the 1970's TV show, Jessica Biel would be a terrible choice. Linda Carter was great. I agree with another post that a lesser known actress would be best. Jessica Biel being a possibility could be an indication as to how bad this movie may be.

Mavis Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:14 AM EST

Carisma Carpenter! She would be perfect! We already know from her Angel days that she can kick butt and hang with the boys!

fredric Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:12 AM EST

No matter who they pick... maybe having a role of a lifetime such as this is reason enough to step up the game in both physicality and acting. It's been done before - I'm not going to pass judgment until I've seen the movie.

MD Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 09:11 AM EST

No-No and No!
