Would you watch a TV show about Britney apologist Chris Crocker?

Sep 19, 2007, 03:42 PM | by Simon Vozick-Levinson

Categories: Britney Spears, Deals, Reality TV, Television

Well, that was quick. Just last week, 19-year-old YouTube sensation Chris Crocker — you know, the kid behind that "LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE" clip (below; clip contains some NSFW language) — was telling EW's Tim Stack that he was hoping to score his own reality show soon: "'I'm trying to kind of parlay this into a ticket out of here." And parlay it he has, according to Variety, which reports that he's already signed a reality-TV development deal with production company 44 Blue.

This sounds like one of those ideas that everyone involved with will soon wish never occurred to them. 44 Blue isn't exactly the most distinguished company in the reality biz — the most notable projects listed on their MySpace page are MSNBC's prison doc series Lock-up and the History Channel's Mega Movers, which is about, uh, how large stuff gets moved around. But I'm not sure even Mark Burnett himself could make Crocker's histrionic kvetching watchable for much longer than that 2:11 YouTube vid.

Or maybe that's just my envy of the entertainment industry's radiant future talking. Either way, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until someone posts up a "LEAVE CHRIS CROCKER ALONE!" rant on YouTube, so I'll leave it at that. Is anyone out there actually hoping Crocker's show makes it out of development?

Chicken Boy Wed, Jan 2, 2008 at 06:57 PM EST

hell yes, id watch it! leave britney alone is like his worst video, you can't compare!! watch his other ones, esp. with him dancing.

jason Tue, Nov 13, 2007 at 08:56 AM EST

you peope that say you would watch are emo's, emotional depressed people that sit in the dark ... have demented views on life .. and complain but never vote. If he ever got a show I would sooo boycott that channel and advertisers til they took it off the air. and i would forward the email of channel execs to parenting and church groups to make sure it got off the air. .. now what?

John Fri, Nov 9, 2007 at 02:51 PM EST

I would watch it. I watch all of his videos on youtube. I dont understand why people make bad comments about him, if you dont like him, then dont f**k*ng watch them! I am so sick and tired of seeing people complain about Chris...I mean c'mon its not like someone has a a gun pointing at you, forcing you to watch him. So yeah, I WOULD watch them.

Luke Thomas Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 11:11 AM EST

Chris Crocker insults the gay community with his histrionics. He perpetuates the MYTH that gay men are queens. Though this is sometimes the truth, it isn't typical. Actually the majority of gay men are just plain men. Looks no different than any other man. I do NOT find his obvious obsession with Brittany amusing, but rather disturbing. VERY disturbing. Basically he gives me the creeps. I think Chris Crocker pokes fun at gay men and insults them. He is a disgrace to the gay community.

Chris Fri, Oct 5, 2007 at 07:02 AM EST

I agree with you 200%! I cannot stand Chris Crocker, and not because he's annoyingly gay, I am gay myself, but because he is a psychotic! I love America, I am american, but I hate american television of this generation. Any idiot can have a "reality" show these days in this country, and it's not a surprise that this mentally disturbed kid has been offered one. It is sad and embarrasing! The best way to ged rid of him is to ignore him, and IT will dissapear. By the way, watch the video he made on youtube on 9/11, and listen to his comment on that day...it'll make you sick.

Joe Mawma Thu, Oct 4, 2007 at 02:56 PM EST

I have to say I'm addicted. I saw some stuff he did a while back when he kissed his brother. I had to show it to my wife we just kinda looked at each other and laughed. I could watch the whole Brittany thing that was kinda horrible but in a funny sorta way. If he had a shock jock radio show I think that would be perfect I'd listen every morning. "TV" I probably just catch the highlights on Talk Soup or something. I bet it'll be interesting at least for a while.

Laci Sun, Sep 30, 2007 at 10:55 AM EST

I'd rather chew broken glass than watch this fake, desperate and hypocritical idiot any day.

Yo dan Fri, Sep 21, 2007 at 01:33 PM EST

Get a life man! Your poor taste is the reason there is so much crap on the tube.

dan Fri, Sep 21, 2007 at 10:40 AM EST

After that video came out, I found myself glued to youtube for several hours watching Chris Crocker's stuff. At first, his gay cliche stuff annoyed me... but then, something strange happened. I couldn't stop watching his nonsense -- I had to watch everything he had to say... There's something in his face that's addictive like a drug... or a car-wreck you can't turn away from, I can't tell which. Check out the one where he's screaming at his grandmother, saying "I'm gonna look at you like you're stupid." Fascinating.

NOOOOO Fri, Sep 21, 2007 at 08:53 AM EST

Just goes to show how big of a dung heap TV has become.

ugh Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 07:39 PM EST

I'd rather stab myself in the eyes with pepper covered chopsticks than watch a tv show with this idiot!

Scott Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 01:30 PM EST

The other great thing about it is that it could cause a watershed, epiphany moment in people's lives, because if a person actually found him or herself sitting and watching this on TV, it would surely prompt them to stop and think, "My God, what have I done with my life." and inspire them to realize that they've just hit rock bottom in their lives, and it's time to make a change for the better.

Mozz Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 01:16 PM EST

The great thing about this show is that it will probably drive it's creators out of the business. Really, does anyone who say, oh this sounds like a good idea... deserve to be creating television.

Murderpuss Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 12:37 PM EST

Add him to The View.

Scott Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 12:28 PM EST

If this imbecile actually winds up getting a show on TV, the people that would watch it are the same people who actually (of their own free will) purchased a copy of the William Hung CD.

Jack Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 12:11 PM EST

Wait.. that's a guy?

dma69 Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 11:51 AM EST

Are they serious? Do we really need more talentless twits desperate for fame shoved down our throats? Not everyone was meant to be famous. And this Chris Crocker of poop doesn't deserve any fame, never mind his own show.

When Andy Warhol quoted that everyone would be famous for 15 minutes, I'm sure he didn't have Chris Crocker and PerezHilton in mind.

donner Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 11:21 AM EST

NNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

What a stupid idea...geez Hollywood, and you wonder why we aren't watching TV anymore...when you put @#%^% on like this dumb bulb, you prove just how pathetic you are...

god, I hate TV executives...

Joe C Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 11:19 AM EST

No.

fredric Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 11:16 AM EST

I never made it through his YouTube clip in its entirety. I think it's fair to say he'll be equally repulsive on television.

Scott Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 10:54 AM EST

We in America desperately need more sophistication in our popular culture. Britney Spears, and reality shows about her idiotic fans, are about as unsophisticated as it gets.

Carrie Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 09:48 AM EST

No,I wouldn't watch his show, but that Seth Green video made my morning. Thanks to youtube, anyone can be famous today. I guess if you're going to make a mockery of yourself on the internet, at least you've got Seth Green's attention.

No Brand Woman Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 08:29 AM EST

In this case, I think the simplest answer is best.

No.

Jessica Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 11:43 PM EST

There is already a slew of videos about leaving him alone aka mocking him. Including one done by Seth Green.

Greg Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 11:28 PM EST

Nope, that Perez Hilton freak already cornered the market on ridiculously over the top gay stereotypes and I find him remarkably annoying as well. So a pseudo-clone of him is well off my radar.

Jakeem Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 11:27 PM EST

Sorry, but this guy's 15 minutes of fame are already over!

Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 10:13 PM EST

I'm not wasting 2 min. of my time watching it or a proposed show because I don't care.

Vicky Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 09:40 PM EST

I couldn't even get through the whole youtube video. Kid seems like a big weirdo.

Jonathan F. Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 09:03 PM EST

I can't stand watching that video. He should get some help.

Monee Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 08:58 PM EST

NO. that is all.

kayla2 Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 07:02 PM EST

My answer to your question is NO.

Snarf Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 06:31 PM EST

My first thought when I saw this on you tube last week was DRUGS. Second thought was either too much or not enough. Third thought was Drag Queen with a pentchent for hysterics seeking attention (although as a friend of mine emailed me "Is there any other kind?") Final thought. Chris dear, your fifteen minutes are up and invest in waterproof eyeliner.

BrandonK Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 05:55 PM EST

I don't need to SEE that!

stephen Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 05:44 PM EST

I'd totally watch him! Let's hope they put his show right after the show with the judge from Anna Nicole's case! Now that's some good tv! Anything to pull back the gay community another 50 years is fine by me!!!

(yes I'm being sarcastic.)

vw Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 05:01 PM EST

noooooooooooo.........!

CitizenVA Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:47 PM EST

Are you serious? I don't even want to watch the YouTube video! Much less an actual show!

Bah...

CVA

Dru Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:47 PM EST

As long as 44 Blue requires him to stay confined to his parents' basement, I am happy.

jmg Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:45 PM EST

Are TV people really that dumb? To even think that us folks would care about this guy/girl for one second is insulting. Is this what our entertainment has come to? Why is this guy/girl even getting a mention at all?

I like Scott P comment. I have to go watch my dog go doo-doo now.

UpChucked Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:45 PM EST

I could not make it through the entire 2:11. What is Chris? Sissy man or woman with raspy smokers voice? Dreadful either way actually. Somebody score Chris a Xanax, stat.

ronaldo Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:39 PM EST

Chuey has a point. I am hoping the show makes it out of development for the only reason to highlight how quickly and loudly it subsequently fails (if that makes sense).

Chuey Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:35 PM EST

After that rant, does anyone else see the hilarity in Phil calling anyone "overly emotional"??? LOL! Simma donna!

Matt Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:20 PM EST

And the award for exploiting Britney more than anyone else goes to: the guy who made a video online urging people to stop exploiting her. I knew this crap was fake all along.

Jenn Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:11 PM EST

And here we are, giving him even more publicity. Just what he wants.

Patti Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 04:09 PM EST

no way in h-e double hockey sticks
(did I beat the comment censor?)

Blue4U1980 Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:38 PM EST

... no

GingerCat Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:38 PM EST

The Chris Crocker reality show: for people who think the Geico Caveman sitcom is too highbrow.
Could there be a clearer sign that the TV networks have run out of ideas? This guy makes me long for the more dignified days of the "Chocolate Rain" dude.
So no, I wouldn't watch this if you paid me. But I'm willing to bet the show won't make it out of development.

Phil Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

As a gay man myself, I find Chris Crocker a whiny sobbing b!t*# that personifies every homosexual stereo-type imaginable. An overly emotional mess defending a gay-diva, whom he's never met & who can't even sing LIVE. Hell, dragqueens doing Britney songs could probably sing em better LIVe than Brit herself. Anyways, Chris should remain in TN & if he is smart enough to try & parlay those crocodile tears into a SOMETHING, it should be a high school degree or college education, because IF this show actually makes it on the air, i don't see anyone caring. What is he going to do? Cry enedlessly over whoever the media is critiquing that week? HORRIBLE!

Also, Seth Green's parody video is HYSTERICAL, esp. when he keeps applying the eye liner! But lets just hope Chris' 15 minutes of fame is up, GOD FORBID HE CREATE ANOTHER VIDEO NOW THAT BRIT'S MANAGER'S HAS FIRED HER & SHE HAS TO ADHERE TO RANDOM DRUG TESTING IN ORDER TO KEEP HER KIDS!!! I pray we've seen the LAST of Chris Crocker!

Mavis Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:29 PM EST

I too, would rather watch the Seth Green paradoy of Chris Crocker more than watching Chris Crocker. I love me The Soup!

Blaire Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:12 PM EST

You couldnt pay me to watch Chris Crocker. He has had his 15 minutes of fame, its time to move on.

junior Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:12 PM EST

See, I say I wouldn't watch it, just like I said I wouldn't watch Perez, but where am I bored Saturday afternoon? Watching Perez and enjoying it. I kinda like this idea, only because the more of any kind of different gay people on TV is good. Let's just hope the show laughs with him and not at him.

Yeaaahhh! Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:10 PM EST

actually seth green made a leave Cris Crocker alone video i don't know what's funnier

Hayley Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 03:09 PM EST

Uhh...

Ceballos Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 02:58 PM EST

No. (man, i'm being shockingly concise today!)

Tamara Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 02:52 PM EST

No. Just no.

mark in nyc Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 02:52 PM EST

the only thing worse then watching Brittney at the VMA's would be this guy.
However I would watch the Seth Green parody of it

Scott P Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 02:47 PM EST

You could film a dog taking a crap, then leave the camera on that pile of crap for a good 25 minutes or so, and I'd watch that any day of the week over any reality crap with that loser.
