Snap Judgment: VH1's 'Scott Baio is 45...and Single'

Jul 16, 2007, 12:26 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: Television

Baio_l It's nice to turn on a celebreality show and see someone who, while obviously scarred in some way, is emotionally stable and articulate enough to handle the "journey" that's before him. No matter what happens to Scott Baio — who's hired life coach Doc Ali to help him find out why he's never been able to commit to a woman, including his "basically perfect" current girlfriend, Renee (whom he's not allowed to see for eight weeks) — you feel confident it won't break him. Translation: This isn't a guilty pleasure; it's just a pleasure.

So last night's premiere offered three main theories as to why Scott Baio is 45 and single...

(1) Baio's self-diagnosis: Fame f---ed him. Because he was on TV, it was easy for him to get women. If one aggravated him, he'd show her the door and someone new would walk through before he closed it. A call to his Happy Days costar Henry Winkler, who's been married for nearly 30 years, however, made Baio see that his celebrity was just an excuse. Is there anyone who doesn't love Henry Winkler?

(2) After lunch with Happy Days costar Erin Moran, to whom he lost his virginity, Baio had a new theory: Blame her. According to Moran, sometime during the short time they dated when they were teens, he told her that they would get married. She freaked out and broke up with him. Maybe, Baio thought, when someone reacts like that to your first proposal, you don't ever think about marriage again. I think Baio was giving his 14-year-old self too much credit. Moran also told him that he was insecure about his "small pee pee" back then, which he denied and had a good laugh about with his friends. (More on them later.)

(3) The most promising theory came from Susie, another of the former lovers whom Doc Ali is having Baio confront. She said Scott's problem is that he's always looking for the next best thing. She recalled how he broke up with her for a weekend — like five times — so that he could date a Playmate. Susie, I have no idea how you let someone do that to you — five times — but Baio seemed to recognize that he was once evil: "That's horrible. If I met me back then, I'd kick the s--- out of me," he said. Which I guess was an apology?

Like Baio, I'm still not sold on Dr. Ali. Clearly, she was the best option presented to him — as opposed to Miss ''I'll Intimately Engage With You'' — and she showed a certain amount of professionalism by not asking him to diagram how he mistook the couch for Moran during their first sexual encounter. But shouldn't she have already told Baio to take a break from his horndog buddy Johnny V., who's been his wingman since he was 15? I know we'd have missed out on Johnny V.'s jackass classic I don't care that you're Clint Howard until I'm told your brother is Ron moment, but come on! If Baio can't see the woman who wants him to commit, then he shouldn't be able to see the man who's taking $5,000 bets that Baio will cheat on her. In the coming attractions, Doc Ali does try to get Johnny V. to back off, and Johnny yells something like, "Don't stifle my time with Scott Baio!" I don't want to judge their 30-year friendship on an hour of television, but I'd question anyone who uses my full name like that. Keep golfing and smoking cigars with The Wonder Years' Jason Hervey, Scott.

As for the show's other cast of characters, I liked that we got to see Baio's agent questioning whether the reality show was the right move — after he told Baio that the Hallmark Channel wanted to know if he could ride horses. (You know I'd watch whatever that project is.) I wish the show had gotten more into what Baio's problems are with Moran. Presumably, they revolve around the fact that she genuinely embraces her Joanie-ness, while he genuinely wants to kill anyone who calls him Chachi. I hope Doc Ali works on that with him, too. I can imagine how that makes him feel like he's accomplished nothing since 1984, but I guarantee you he wouldn't have this show if we didn't all remember his rendition of "Thank Heaven for Little Girls." I think he had every right not to kiss the girl in the autograph line — and will even sanction his snippiness with that woman who was upset that he didn't remember her from her extras work on Charles in Charge — but there's no excuse for letting Johnny V. Hollywood him out of that store and make everyone in line feel like an insignificant nuisance. (Okay, I need to step away from Johnny V.) I've already set my DVR for next week's episode, when we'll get to see Growing Pains' Julie McCullough weigh in on Baio's philandering: "I had my first AIDS test because of you, that's how much you cheated on me," she says. I love these women!

So what do you think, PopWatchers? Why is Scott Baio 45 and single? What are the chances that his tour of ex-girlfriends will yield a cameo from Heather Locklear? (I say slim to none, and slim's out of town.) Shouldn't Baio have at least told Renee (who you know he's gonna end up proposing to in the end) that he was going to hire a life coach before he interviewed them? Why is he going to be going on dates? When will he be able to "do No. 2" again? And who wants to knee Johnny V. in the nuts? (I can't let it go. I'm sorry.)

I think SCOTT needs to look inside the person too.Oh don't get me wrong I'm beautiful inside and out but the heart IS on the inside and you won't find TRUE love without one. Honestly he really turned me off when he picked apart that beautiful date he was with. BUT OH,that's right she wasn't famous. Good luck Scott.

Happy days was great. Baio was cute but Henry stold the show in my eyes. I've seen the new show Baio and 45 but still single. Your friend seems to be riding your coat tales, liking the young chic's were He don't. Commitment wise, well after 11 yrs of marriage on my part and remianing faithful. No I ain't a star. But still. He is Scott and not his character.

t*** Fri, Oct 19, 2007 at 01:24 PM EST

I`m alife~long fan of Scott Baio.GOOD LUCK Scott,Happy Days Always!!!!!!!!

kate Tue, Sep 18, 2007 at 01:14 AM EST

I don't see how Scott can marry Renee'
when he's been "married" to Johnny V all this time. It's so obvious Johnny KNOWS he will not get any action without having Scott's crumbs to lick up. I think he is sick (and NOT in a good way.) And Scott is blind when it comes to his friends.

italiangrl Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:15 AM EST

Rename the show Scott Baio is 45 and TRAPPED! Scott how could you be a serious player for all these years and let some 2 bit playmate trap you? Hello.. Didn't Mommy teach you not to go out without your raincoat on before you get married. Holy cow. Stunad! Oh and she's a DOG!

anonymous 2 Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 09:04 AM EST

Scott Baio got totally trapped by his has been playmate girlfriend Renee who obviously knows where babies come from! What happened Renee "forget" you pill? PS She not " that hot" What is up with those BANGS! Yikes...

M Wed, Aug 29, 2007 at 07:22 AM EST

What do you do if you're a has been with no money? If his girlfriend is for real, as stupid as she appears, who would want her for anything than exercise?

Trisha Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 10:05 PM EST

I just have to say, i luv the show an i think you are sooo SEXY! I would luv to see you come back with another reality show, PLEASE!! Your girlfreind is beautiful an i hope things go well.

Tue, Aug 28, 2007 at 03:02 PM EST

This show is great! I'm glad that it's coming back for another season. It really is a cut above the other reality shows because it deals with real issues in a funny and intelligent manner.

lm Mon, Aug 27, 2007 at 07:36 PM EST

Hi, I LOVE the show.what a great ending that the giflfriend is PG. I really and truely hope it all works out for them. Scott worked so hard. PLease bring them back so the viewers can see what happens next!!!

Lisa Mon, Aug 20, 2007 at 08:20 PM EST

Please bring back another season! As much as I can't stand JohnnyV, I want to see what he'll do next. I love that Scott is taking this seriously, its nice to see how he's willing to try to change for the better. But seriously, what girl growing up in the 70's-80's wouldn't want to be with him, and what guy wouldn't want to be him?? Go Scott!

Cindee Thu, Aug 16, 2007 at 03:46 PM EST

I can't get enough of this show. As soon as it's over I'm already looking forward to the next. I think in the end he will propose and I hope it works out for them. Renee looks like a very nice girl and I hope he doesn't let her down.

Julie Wed, Aug 15, 2007 at 01:56 AM EST

I like the show, however, I don't lose a nerve if I happen to change the channel and forget to turn it back right away.
I believe that the people with whom Scott is associated have somehow reflected "high expectations" and I think that Scott is now so overwhelmed that he doesn't even know what to expect from or look for in a woman . Especially one who will fit into the "nooks and crannies of the Scott".
All of a sudden his "corner of the world" has opened up so wide that there is no corner for him to retreat.
So Scott, I am 41, single, no ex-husband and no children (that I know of! haha) I think I am the perfect flavor for your plate of uncertainties. I am also in the Los Angeles area! near downtown.

Sally Mon, Aug 6, 2007 at 09:50 PM EST

He looks haunted and has enough of a conscience and sense of humor to be totally watchable. Mr. B. reminds me of schmo's I dated along the way - the louts you hate yourself for loving. Don't ever change. Great show - hope it's an Emmy.

Mitt Mon, Aug 6, 2007 at 12:29 AM EST

The show is okay I guess for a scripted so-called "reality" show. His girlfriend is pregnant so we all know he's going to marry her. Plus his girlfriend wouldn't have him meet her daughter if she wasn't sure they were going to be together. Knowing that ruins the show for me.

Damian Baba Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 02:49 PM EST

The show rocks I even found great layouts for it on http://www.picklemy.com and downloaded a youtube video of it on http://www.youtubex.com

man. it's one of the better reality shows. back off. rock of love, that that's a piece of doo.

Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:14 AM EST

Sometimes kid actors should just disappear. Or maybe move to Canada and raise a family in the back of a station wagon and feed them rocks so their teeth will get all fucked up so they can bring in more money when their out begging. There I said it. Been meaning to get that off my chest since 1994.

Gerber69 Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:10 AM EST

one time at band camp...

inturdrested in turds Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:08 AM EST

scott baio hearts cory haim. I've seen the video. It's actually quite good. Very tender. Google it.

Billzablubber Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:07 AM EST

I used to work with this chick at the boomboom room in LA and she said she'd done Mikey & Scott in a 2some and little Mikey was WAY more interested in Scotty than poonanner.

Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:05 AM EST

Ok, how bout somethin besides jewell. What's with that pathetic midget bud of his? I think he loves chachi.... now there's a show.

Hillbilly Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:03 AM EST

Jewell & Chachi both have purdy mouths. But then again so did Wilbur and Arnold. SQUEEEEEEEEELLLLLL!

tvlad Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:02 AM EST

that show sucks balls. it's a lame script. i'm sure his girlfriend already has her dress.
lame publicity stunt.

Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 01:00 AM EST

WAA WA WAAAA! Isn't that a Jewell song already?

lisa12399 Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:59 AM EST

No, it's Jewellchi. I can see it already on ET.

Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:56 AM EST

Jewell is way out of his league.
She actually has some talent.

starrwatcher2000 Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:55 AM EST

That's interesting. Jewell. That is what he asked for, short, blonde, knockers, and a fear of dentist.

Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:52 AM EST

hee hee. Jewell-chee.

ROGBLOGGER Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:51 AM EST

HA! Jewell. She perfect for him.
I wonder if they ever dated

ROGBLOGGER Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:51 AM EST

HA! Jewell. She perfect for him.
I wonder if they ever dated

Leslie Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:50 AM EST

Yeah, I agree. Jewell is younger than him, snaggle toothed and has a chest. They should get married

scott Also Sun, Aug 5, 2007 at 12:49 AM EST

He should date Jewell, fucked up teeth, blonde and big tits.

megan Sat, Aug 4, 2007 at 03:49 PM EST

I know why he's 45 and single...he's a dork.

Jack Thu, Aug 2, 2007 at 11:16 PM EST

Just more feminist man-hating crap, sold in a "reality" format.

Baio should be APPLAUDED for being 45 and still single. He's smart, he doesn't have some skank draining him for alimony or child support. This really makes women angry.

EVERY BIT of advice given to him from that "life coach" is totally from a woman's perspective, and could not be more wrong.

Dr. Deb Wed, Aug 1, 2007 at 05:21 PM EST

Fame is not what did him in....it's just part of it. He needs to delve inot therapy to address the many psychological and familial issues that are at the core of his conflicts.

bebe Mon, Jul 23, 2007 at 08:33 PM EST

I loved this review and no longer feel guilty about enjoying the show. Johnny V is a total dick. I can't believe that Scott would really enjoy spending time with this guy---unless he enjoys the feeling superior. Johnny V is actually a very sad character. Did you see when the engagement party bolted after Scott left? Johnny was desperate to have Scott stay...I enjoy watching Scott reflect on his life and his progress. And yes, Henry Winkler on the phone was a champ.

Beth Mon, Jul 23, 2007 at 03:27 PM EST

Seems to me, Scott is a big whiny victim.Poor Scott, he was I child star and it scarred him for life. maybe it's the accent (always makes people seem whiney)but I have little sympathy for someone who wallows in his own self-pity and has never even tried to give anything back to society, much less his relatioships. Maybe you could call letting Johnny V ride on his coat tails "volunteering" but other than that, what a waste!

karen Mon, Jul 23, 2007 at 01:34 AM EST

interesting whom scott hangs around with, the cigar in his mouth some up town snob, how much is real life and how much is he being paid to act in the transcript?
but I love being a Scott Baio.Grown up with the persona
Go Scott and Rock
Fondly,Karen at 49 and single ease

R.May Sat, Jul 21, 2007 at 07:43 PM EST

Roger- I wasn't talking about all men and all women, and you are absolutely right in you comment about all men and women, but I was talking about only one man, who allowed himself to be on tv and all over the web. If he hadn't done that I wouldn't have said that.
Susan B.-I am married and my husband IS my best friend. There is no difference between friends and partners. In order for a relationship to work, it is impairative that you are friends first.
Bill D- you hit the nail right on the head. Thank you

Bill Dueease Sat, Jul 21, 2007 at 04:20 PM EST

You ask why Scott is 45 and still single. Simple, that is what he wants. He is already somewhat married to your favorite person, Johnny V. Why does he need another wife?

Andy Sat, Jul 21, 2007 at 01:03 PM EST

If the autograph signing session was such a spontaneous event, why were there posters of Scott Baio on the wall? Why did people in line have Scott Baio albums? Please.

Jimmy B Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 08:25 PM EST

Has Johnny V. really been Baio's buddy or did the show just insert him in to be the dickhead friend that everyone hates?
If the former, then hanging out with friends like Johnny V. is Baio's main problem. Grow up and ditch losers like this!
Renee seems intellectual in addition to being hot and should run, not walk away from Baio right now!
I'll probably watch another show though.

LP Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 08:09 PM EST

Never was a huge fan of Baio personally but I too was surprised how much I liked the show. Yes, he's kind of an ass but I think A. He realizes what an ass he's been and wants to change his ways B. For once, I don't feel like one of these C-list stars is "acting" at being himself. I get the feeling that is really him.

LP Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 08:09 PM EST

anna Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 05:56 PM EST

His one time fame came from his youthful, "cuteness".Now he's a middle aged guy who associates a committed relationship with being "old". He's no longer cute or famous and now we see he's not even a particularly nice guy. Yes, people may talk about the show but people talk about Michael Richards and others who share there true self. Ten more years and he'll be doing a David Hasselhoff with his ex-wife and kids.

Susan B. Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 03:59 PM EST

As a woman, I wholeheartedly agree with Roger about Rebecca's comment. It is generally easier to get along with friends than partners.

Roger Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 02:59 PM EST

In response to Rebecca May's comment, just because a man has a good relationship with his male friends and cannot make a commitment to women, does not make him gay. I assume that you've met a few Scott Baios in your day and are just lashing out.

Rebecca May Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 02:16 PM EST

I wonder why Scott Baio has such a hard time making commitments to women, but has no problem making commitments to men?
My comment is I don't think Scott Baio really wants women, he really wants men, but doesn't know how to express it.

alex Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 02:15 PM EST

sorry in advance - haven't read all of the comments if this was said, but he and renee sloan are expecting a baby girl in december. he's not even really single. talk about an annoying twist! (www.celebrity-babies.com)

GeeMoney Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 12:01 PM EST

He's single because he's a damn DOG. He doesn't want to commit! He wants to be free to date and hump eerything walking. Why is the question ofwhy he can't commit even being asked? Isn't the answer sooooo obvious?

And why do we care about an aging former sitcom star, anyway? He's not even that cute anymore!

kath Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 11:15 AM EST

Either Scott is a way better actor then Hollywood has every imagined or he is totally genuine about figuring himself out. It didn't seem as fake as other reality shows for some reason. I am sold!

Mavis Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 09:28 AM EST

Loved this Show! We need a TV Watch & Stat!

Joe C Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 07:50 AM EST

Normally, I am a live and let live kind of guy in terms of respecting other people's tastes, but I feel the same way about this show as I do all reality shows; they suck. They always feature a has been or never was(Flavor Flav, Brett Michaels, now Scott Baio). And yet the genre is very popular. The old saying is correct: 'You can't go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.'

Peggy Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 07:03 AM EST

Gimmie a break! Baio is a washed up has been, and this crap fest is a paycheck for him. "Ooooh, Scott Baio is 45 & Single", what genius thought up that title? Who cares why he can't commit to a woman? He'll pull a Warren Beatty in about 10 years (when he's too old & broke to get the young chicks), and settle down w/"the one." Johnny V? He's like Bob Crane's best friend (played by Willam DeFoe) in that film about Crane's life & raging hard on. We all know how that friendship ended.

Pam Tue, Jul 17, 2007 at 12:31 AM EST

Scott's not hanging out with Willie Ames, as Ames is a born again Christian, living in Olathe, KS and playing "Bible Man"...although he'd be a much better influence than Johnny V.

cindit0 Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 09:15 PM EST

Not only do I agree with all of what Mandi has written, but I also think Scott just doesn't know what true happiness feels like. It seems he's been riding along with what Johnny V tells him is great and not really thinking about how much does he really enjoy it. It was mentioned in the conversation in the golf cart when Scott's other friend (can't remember his name) told Johnny to stop busting his balls about the life coach and support him. But Johnny says, "What do you mean? He is happy!" and it was clear Scott isn't. Johnny is just a parasite that is too afraid of his own inadequacies and uses Scott as the "easy way out". But we all knew that and I'll try to drop this point.

Scott just needs to pay attention to the things in his life that are CURRENTLY making him happy and hang on to them.

BTW, I think I'm hooked on this show. :)

jenjen Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 06:23 PM EST

Exactly, GingerCat. Problem solved.

Leslie Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 06:03 PM EST

Scott has actually had a bit of a career since his sitcom days. I was pleasantly surprised to watch a movie from a few years back called "The Bread, My Sweet", which was filmed in Pittsburgh. He was amazing in it, and a far better actor than I had remembered. I think it is under a different title on DVD, but please check it out if you can!

harry Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 04:55 PM EST

I think this idea for a show is a pretty gutsy move by Baio.

GingerCat Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 04:40 PM EST

Count me among those who was surprised at how much I liked this show. I had vowed to avoid it like the plague, but on Sunday I was lying on the couch sick with the flu and gave in to temptation. I wound up being glad I did.
I'd like to add theory #4 to Why Scott Baio Is Still Single: He keeps dating the same woman over and over again! No wonder he gets tired of them! I think I'll die of shock if it turns out he has dated anyone (besides Erin) who was brunette and didn't seem to have a Playmate/Baywatch past.

Ames Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 03:01 PM EST

While I agree from Katie, in theory, I like the show since you get to observe a total jerk from a safe distance. Know thy enemy, as they say. My prediction, he will propose at the end of the series. He must know by know we expect a happy ending. I give their marriage 6 months.

BVM Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 03:00 PM EST

I really enjoyed watching this show. It was a combination of Entourage and Broken Flowers by Jim Jarmusch. Although the show isn't very deep, it's a fun ride and is actually informative on relationships and male-friendship. Most guys in serious relationships have at least one friend begging them to do the wrong thing. Most guys have at least one friend in their inner circle who they have very little in common with now but remain friends because of their history. And most guys have had girlfriends who wanted to celebrate "anniversaries" like two month or a year and a half.

Pai Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:49 PM EST

This is pretty good as far as celebreality goes. He's messed up, we can see it on camera and unlike Paula's show, we're able to still root for the guy.

Love how strong the women are and they all have some great insight into the guy they went out with. Erin Moran was just priceless. I'd watch a reality show to see what was going on with her too.

Ep Sato Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:43 PM EST

Hmm, so there's a connection between Baio and Batemen I'd never thought of besides AD. They both starred in movies that featured crap sequels (except that Bateman had the bad luck of BEING in the crappy sequel). Too cool!

Bob Loblaw's Law Blog? Now you've said a mouthful...

Holly Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:42 PM EST

I reluctantly LOVE this show. Great review Mandi. I too HATE Johnny V!!!!

BC Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:41 PM EST

Entertaining show, and I was impressed by Baio's intellect, but I can't help my feeling that 90% of the show is scripted. I know a lot of reality television is that way but it seems to be more obvious in this show.

Stephanie Travitsky Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:33 PM EST

Right, that's what I meant. Zapped Again was about a male student discovering Baio's character's formula. Baio was not in it. But it was an awful sequel.

And anything with Francis from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure has to suck.

Katie Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:08 PM EST

Okay, I must be in an alternate universe. The show I saw was about a self-involved, arrogrant jerk who can't stay in a relationship because that would involve loving someone other than himself. I won't be turning in again. I don't need to watch a 45 year-old misogynistic child who has cheated on every woman he's dated and who when asked about what he looks for in a woman can only list his physical requirements. What a dumb***!

cranky Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:07 PM EST

Baio's finest hour can be described thusly: BOB LOBLAW'S LAW BLOG!

Sarah Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 02:00 PM EST

Oh man, I got soooo sucked into this show last night and I was just waiting to hear what y'all thought of it! (And you didn't let me down!!)

I agree that Scott desperately needs a Johnny-V-ectomy, but Jason Hervey was cracking me up. And while I am too young to really have had a TV crush on Baio, it was a fun hour of mindless yet heartfelt TV. Can't wait for the next ep!

Ep Sato Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 01:38 PM EST

Hey, Stephanie, Zapped Again didn't feature Willie Aames or Scott Baio.

But I do agree that it did suck more than a Hoover on overdrive. I'd argue that it's not Baio's fault the sequel was awful since he wasn't in it though.

Teenwolf Too...now that movie was so bad that it almost ended Jason Bateman's career. Thank god it didn't or we may have missed out on Arrested Development.

Bridgette Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 01:32 PM EST

I was so obsessed and in love with Scott Baio for years, so I found it kind of disheartening to find out just how big of a jerk he really is! I do, however, hope that he genuinely wants to change, and that this "process" is able to help him do that.

While I agree that he had every right not to kiss the autograph-seeker, it was very rude and unnecessary for him to add "I don't know where you've been"--especially when it seems that HE is the one who has "been" with just about everyone!

Someone asked about Pamela Anderson--Yes, they lived together for a quite some time, and were engaged, before she married Tommy Lee. (She was much prettier back when they first got together--she didn't look quite so trashy.)

And Jimmy Baio is actually Scott's cousin--not his brother. He does have an older brother and sister, though--they are twins--Stephan and Stephanie.

Really? I thought that they were brothers. And yeah, the show is a real life version of High Fidelity.

good point about High Fidelity but Johnny C. is much cuter. He would be a good one for a reality show like this as he is a notorious womanizer! That Lloyd Dobler thing is still working for him after all these years.

I liked this TV show better when it was a movie called "High Fidelity".

Jimmy and Joey Baio are Scott's cousins.

Loved the show! I am from the Happy Days generation and therefore am definitely curious as to what Scott Baio has been up to. Couldn't believe it when he got up from the table and he was wearing those black Chuck Taylor lowtops- so CHACHI!!!Overall, he seemed flawed and kind of a jerk but also interesting. My opinion is that he looks old...but I like his NY style. It makes sense that he was never satisfied...I think it is tied to being a child actor. All grown up child actors have a sense of not being satisfied because they can't get over being a God or Goddess as a child. I have set up my season pass and won't miss the rest of the episodes.

The sequel to Zapped was a direct to video release and it was worse than Teen Wolf too.

It is good to see someone like Scott Baio think about his mistakes in life and to reflect on them. Hopefully speaking to his ex'es will give him some insight on why he must not make the same mistake with his new girlfriend. BTW: How come his older brother Jimmy (the original Carmen from The Bad News Bears, and from the television comedy Soap)is not going to participate. I'd like to hear what he has to say about his former womanizer brother.

Wasn't he engaged to Pamela Anderson at one time?

Jeni Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 12:43 PM EST

I was hesitant when I heard the premise of the show - why should I care why he's 45 and single? But after catching most of the show last night, I will admit that I'll be watching it every week. Lots of great lines... and some good interaction with his exes already. It will be interesting to see how things progress.

While watching "rob & Big" the other night, they pass by Scoot Baio and mention how they saw him. I wondered why they gave him a free promo until now. Clearly VH-1 and MTV wanted to cross promote the shows. Anyone want to chance it that Rob &Big will cameo on his show?

Somehow, I always pictured that Baio would be kicking it with Willie Aames and not the jerk from the Wonder years.

I also imagined him getting his groove on with 80's resident hottie Jennifer Runyon. Can they PLEASE cameo? Runyon stole my heart in "Up the Creek" and Willie Aames' pairing with Scott Baio was the best team up since Han Solo became buddies with Chewbacca.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this show, and Mandi hit it right on the head noting the fact that the central character is someone who's flawed and damaged, but at least able to express himself and his insecurities in a coherent way. His scenes with Moran were very good and "I got my first AIDS test because of you, that's how much you cheated on me." is the quote of the week!

I also got a kick out of the fact that Baio hangs out with Jason Hervey, and it just makes me imagine this fraternity of actors from 80s and 90s sitcoms, hanging out and playing golf and smoking cigars. Johnny V. though. Ugh!

Finally, my girlfriend likes the little cartoon Baio on the bottom right of the screen.

Mark,
We've already seen a sequel to "Zapped." Its called "Zapped Again," and it came out in 1989. No Baio nor Aames, but it did star Lyle Alzado in one of his last roles.

I liked this show. A person confronting his problems head on (realizing he hates people was a great moment) makes for compelling television - famous or not. It made me see Scott in a whole new light. For a time there, he was Cachi or Charles or whatever his character was on Diagnosis Murder, then a punchline for dating young starlets; kind of refreshing to see a human being and not a cartoon character.

Good luck Scott, we're rooting for you!

Tara Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 11:48 AM EST

Scott Baio was my first real TV star crush...I loved him SOOOO much. Seeing him now reminds of why...he still looks great! I hope he gets straightened out because he genuinely seems like he wants to do right by Renee. I'll be watching for sure.

GoddessLu Mon, Jul 16, 2007 at 11:38 AM EST

OK I confess--I didn't watch the show (wanted to, had other things going on) but I don't really care why Scott Baio (OMG, I'm doing it TOO) is single. I'm on the edge of 40 and I'm single again for the 3rd time (2 ex husbands). Same result, different journey. In fact, if Scott can get over his blonde fascination and let me indulge in my thing for Italian men, give the Goddess a call. No worries, no need to marry, everybody keeps their own house...(call me).

Loved the show...but if Scott is really trying to change himself he has to get rid of the crazy makers in his life like Johnny V.
Ask any ex smoker/druggie/whatever and they will tell you that other people do influence yourlife. If youare around smokers it makes it hard to quit, drug addicts same thing.
Itis nice to see someone who is trying to change their life, not just do a show for publicity (Baio has nothingto plug right?) speaking of which when can we see a sequal to Zapped?
