A first look at Harrison Ford in the new Indiana Jones movie

Indy_l I don’t care how much you might hate the idea of a 64-year-old Harrison Ford putting his battered fedora back on for next summer's Indiana Jones 4 — don’t you look at this first official photo, taken yesterday on the set (by this fella named Steven Spielberg), and get at least a little excited?

Indy doesn’t look that elderly. And it’s great that nobody’s hiding the gray hairs and peppery stubble. With Spielberg directing, a movie about Indiana Jones as an old guy still bouncing around is inherently mysterious. I wanna see where they go with it — more than I wanna see any movie coming out between now and then, honestly.

And I’m telling you, Ford can still handle the action. In June 2005, I spent two days on the set of Firewall in Canada, and I watched Ford fly through windows and fall down a lot as he shot that movie’s fisticuffs-packed climax. I don’t care who you are; the Harrison Ford I saw two years ago could still kick the crap out of you. Indiana Jones lives!

AWESONE!! You can't go wrong with Harrison Ford. I have always been a great fan.

Yo Yo Mon, Jun 25, 2007 at 06:48 PM EST

Hey Greg...you gotta take into consideration that Harrison was beating up on Paul Bettany in Firewall, and what, that dude weighs like 85 lbs.? We can only hope Indy uses his dentures and aspercreme in some clever way to foil a murderous plot. Bring on the Cialis!

That pic of Harrison looks photoshopped. Cuz if anybody say Harrison in any recent pics in mags in past 5 years, he looks MUCH older, craggly, wrinkly than in that pic. I'm just saying. This is Hollywood after all, like they wouldn't touch up a pic??!! As if.

Really excited about this one. He looks amazing for his age.

Joe C, I like your point. Do you (or anyone) think this is related to EW's article from a while back that talked about the lack of new superstars in hollywood? While we get a lot of almost a list but mostly b list stars,
the era of the Sean Connery/ Harrison Ford/ Arnold / Stallone / Willis era seems to be closing to an end.

I mean, we've still got stars like Denzel, Brad Pitt and Clooney, but none of them cats seem to generate the sort of superstar excitement of yesteryear.

Anyway, my point is that maybe the reason we're seeing so many sequels (in some cases 10 years after the last instalment) is that there are few guaranteed hitmakers anymore?

If so, my guess is that Lethal Weapon 5 will be in theaters soon.

As an 80's child, I am not looking forward to another aged star not being willing to acknowledge that he's past his prime a la Bruce WIllis in Die Hard 4 or Sly in Rocky whatever. I will not be watching.

He looks like one of those mannequin displays behind glass at the wax museum. i hope I look that good at 64

I'm positive about this film simply because its Spielberg directing it. If he had turned it over to anyone else, I don't believe it work, including Lucas. But Spielberg never screws up (well...The Terminal...). He'll keep the film honest to its roots.
Plus Ford (my childhood hero) is still in great shape for his age, and seeing him dressed as Indy again works for me. Its such an iconic image.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty excited too, but I'm keeping that excitment in check by remembering another Lucas-related trilogy that was ruined by unnecessary tinkering. Why he ever tried to make Porky's 4: Son of Porky is beyond me.

Martha Sat, Jun 23, 2007 at 06:48 PM EST

Furry_tom, you forgot to add "and demands to see old episodes of 'Matlock.'" Even if Indy has to use a walker to hobble away from bad guys and complains more about his sciatica than snakes, I think I'll still be there when this thing comes out.

Oooh, I think he still looks really good. After all, as Harrison Ford ages, he doesn't really look older, he just looks more chiseled.

I'm a little more pumped and a little less skeptical about the movie now!

cookiemac Sat, Jun 23, 2007 at 08:16 AM EST

wow! saw the pic and thought it was from the set of one of the earlier ones. considering his age, he still looks great.

Honeybee Sat, Jun 23, 2007 at 05:35 AM EST

Awesome, as long as the film awknowledges Indys age, it will be golden! And that picture gives me chills.

Maeve Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 09:31 PM EST

There's something about Harrison Ford in that picture that just looks so natural.

mtank Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 09:21 PM EST

I reverted to being 12 years old again the second I laid eyes on this picture. I would trade all the giant robots, webslingers, and closeted pirates in the crack of a whip to see this one. Gives me the right kind of goosebumps to see him in that costume again. Let the countdown begin!

Jamie Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 08:54 PM EST

Dang, he's STILL SEXY!!!!! I've had a crush on Indy since I was a little girl! Go Indy!!!
P.S. For all you out there that think Shia and Harrison don't look that much alike, take another look at "Blade Runner"...for a minute there I thought it was Shia!
Can't wait!!! I'm so excited! I'm more excited than about Harry Potter! (And that's saying something!)

Maureen Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 08:44 PM EST

Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and please, please, please keep the original film score just as it was. This will be worth the wait.

Maeve Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 08:29 PM EST

OH MY GOD SO EXCITED!

lei Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 07:24 PM EST

this looks so exciting!

furry_tom Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 06:19 PM EST

Unfortunately, this is an actual still shot from the movie. For 90 minutes Indy sits in a chair and complains about how much better things were in the old days while Shia LaBeouf brings him Metamucil and heating pads.

marian Fri, Jun 22, 2007 at 05:44 PM EST

I got so stupid excited when I saw this picture I forgot about every other movie I want to see right now. Immediately emailed it to my entire family. Indy is the man!!!
