'Kid Nation': Childsploitation or fine family viewing?

May 17, 2007, 04:41 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: Reality TV, Television

Yesterday, when CBS announced its fall schedule would include a reality show called Kid Nation — where 40 kids, ages 8 to 15, form an adult-less society in ghost town Bonanza City, New Mexico for 40 days — a debate ignited in the EW TV department. Watch a preview of the show here, then weigh in yourself. Highlights of our e-mail chain:

Alynda Wheat: [Jennifer] Armstrong and I are already obsessed! Obsessed!
Tim Stack: Kids are boring (no offense to people who have or like children).
Wheat: We're disowning you.
Kristen Baldwin: Oh my God — I think it looks horrifying! All those poor stressed out kids forced onto TV by their evil parents and crying every episode? No thanks!
Wheat: Perhaps Jennifer and I love it because we view the young as accessories.

Our TV mavens briefly discussed whether CBS's schedule looks boring in general before returning to the question of what prizes the Kid Nation kids would earn for playing.

Baldwin: Each week one kid wins a real gold star (e.g. real gold) worth $20k.
Dalton Ross: I know someone who worked on the show. Everyone was surprised by what good stuff they got out of this, which explains CBS' decision to skip summer and put it on in the fall — a very risky move.
Wheat: I'm telling you, it looked really, really good. Not just exploitative good. Actual quality.
Baldwin: If you like to watch little kids cry, that is.
Abby West: OMG. This IS kind of horrifying. That said, I am so going to watch it every week. And my 8-year-old will love it and probably lobby me to get to be on it.

I myself am on Team Wheat/Armstrong. While it's painful to see any child cry (especially the one in the cowboy hat), it's inspiring to see them all chant the name of the one, Michael, who steps up to end a screaming match: "You guys do realize you're not just representing yourselves," he says. "This is to prove that kids of all age groups can actually get stuff organized and actually create a society where people actually share without greed." Each week, the children compete in a "showdown" that detemines what role they'll have in their society: laborer, cook, merchant, or upper-class. No child is run out of town. Every three days, there's a town meeting where any of them can choose to go home. They can also air grievances against their four-kid government. "Stop punishing us, Taylor," one boy says. "This is a democracy. You're not allowed to punish us. That is not what a leader does. At all." Again, inspiring... except for maybe the parents of Taylor, who looks like she's about to burst into tears.

Which side are you on?

Thank you to the few that will be watching this incredible show! This is not a bad show at all! Finally kids can show that they arent worthless like many grownups say!So please if they bring that soap opera jericho back can it stay too?Maybe this will change and turn into a great show after the first season.STOP THE BOYCOTT!!!!SAVE KIDNATION!!

sassy Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 07:03 PM EST

I read all your comments and i think you all are being babies!!Jericho is a good show but after a while it got boring! It was like watching days of our lives or some other stupid soap opera.Just leave kidnation alone and maybe jericho will come back too.

sassy Sat, Nov 10, 2007 at 06:51 PM EST

I honestly think this is the best show ever! That campbell kid looks like

I definetly want to sign up for kid nation myself!

paula Mon, Nov 5, 2007 at 07:33 PM EST

i bet everone hates thot talor girl she is so lazy and ugly

John Maddox Thu, Nov 1, 2007 at 11:07 PM EST

Most of these "controversies" are ridiculas. All I see is some money hungry parents trying to make a buck off of their kids. These kids gained some usefull and benificial experiences out of this interaction. They learned how to cooperate with others. They learned that diversity is a good thing. They learned that not everything in life is going to be given to them on a silver platter. They also see that those who work hard, get along with others and do things to better not only themselves but their community can be greatly rewarded for their efforts. I applaud Kid Nation and hope to see it again next season.

It is a good show that my kids and I can watch together and talk about hard work. The kids can choose to stay or go. How bad can it be?

Kevin Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 08:49 PM EST

Kid Nation was an outstanding event. My daughter (13yr) would like to be in the next season. It teaches the kids on what is real. It makes them work as team and how to get along with a wide age group. How to prepare food that most of adults would not even think about unless you where raised on a farm. As for all the stuff like disclaimers and “in the event of death” you won’t be able to sue CBS. That is in the eyes of the parents. If you have raised you child right you should have nothing to worry about. Just think of them going to school every day. Your child could be hurt at school or die in a bus crush, and then you sue the schools for that. It would be in the best interest to CBS that ALL concerns are covered to insure that safety for your or my child is the most important thing.

tanya Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 07:42 PM EST

how do i sign up my child to this kid nation

Johnny.S Thu, Sep 20, 2007 at 08:29 AM EST

I think thought that Kid Nation was a neat show. It taught those children some responsibility, Friendship, Faith & Courage. And anyway its not like they were kid napped & forced to do the show. So chill out all you anti-kid people.

J Wed, Sep 19, 2007 at 11:06 PM EST

Let me just say that I am very impressed by how wonderful the children are on the new program "Kid Nation". I know a few adults that could learn a lesson or two from those kids!!

lesliedeanne Thu, Aug 23, 2007 at 11:35 PM EST

I honestly can't believe CBS. Total exploitation! And, I can't believe what kind of parents would allow their child who they are supposed to protect, to participate in a show like this. The same parents who think $5000 is enough to compensate for their child's life if anything were to happen - these parents had to sign a document agreeing not to sue if their child DIED or was INJURED. Thus the assumption that a significant risk was involved. Unnecessary. Terrible. Pathetic. NO - My family will NOT be watching this show.

Jericho Sucked Fri, Jun 1, 2007 at 05:05 PM EST

CBS will never bring back Jericho, it was terrible. They don't pay attention to these internet threads, so stop wasting your time asking for it back. They certainly didn't make Kid Nation to replace Jericho, they just needed to fill the gap. Kid Nation was suppose to be a summer show. If you liked Jericho, you really need help. Unless your a big fan of Soap Opera's, and bad acting. Seriously, if you guys keep supporting shows this bad, it will only get worse. They will spend less money making the shows, cause your standards are low. As for Kid Nation, how sheltered of a life did you live to think that seeing kids work together without their parents is horrifying? I would like every kid in America to live like this for 40 days, just so they can see how easy they have it in the real world. Take all the video games and electronic toys away. No more mommy and daddy to make food. That's what Kid Nation is about. Kid's learning about life, real life. How is that horrifying?

Seizure1982 Sun, May 27, 2007 at 10:10 PM EST

I'm mainly worried about these kids. The only supervision they'll have is the camera crew and I expect a lot of cameras will need to be replaced due to kids not really wanting to filmed while the tears are flowing. Oh, wait, that footage probably won't be shown. Viewers may be disconcerted if they see that. CBS wants viewers. Reality?
Yeah, right. We see selected, edited scenes. Reality TV is live. We won't see the leftovers of the live footage until/if an unedited DVD comes out for this show showing deleted scenes.

goldminer Fri, May 25, 2007 at 02:36 PM EST

Hey CBS : Those 2 pound gold stars ain't worth $20,000. There are 12 troy ounces in a pound of gold. Not 16! So the stars are only worth about $15,000 --- not $20,000!! Just another example of child exploitation!

Anonymous Thu, May 24, 2007 at 10:50 AM EST

I am ON the freaking show. I don't feel exploited.

... Thu, May 24, 2007 at 10:25 AM EST

.....who in there right mind would cancell Jericho for something like this? serious?!

SaveJERICHO!! Thu, May 24, 2007 at 04:08 AM EST

CBS lost me and about 10 of my friends !! Bring back Jericho!!!

Therese Marcel Wed, May 23, 2007 at 07:14 PM EST

oh please cbs give me a break I wont be turning in.

Calvin Wed, May 23, 2007 at 06:29 PM EST

Now we can exploit children in bulk on primetime TV!

This is pathetic.

Jon Kelly Mon, May 21, 2007 at 03:45 PM EST

Surprise, surprise, realiy tv, All cbs is doing is trykng to follow other tv stations that got good ratings fr there crappy reality tv shows, but the fact is, there garbage, i watched jericho ever wensday, well thursday, turned out it was on the same night at my bar night, but i PVR'd it and watched it the next day, that was probaly one of the best shows on tv, u got drama, action, and emotion, look at the last 5 episodes, i was out of my seat it was so intense, so BOOOOO to kid nation and bring back jericho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Louanne Sun, May 20, 2007 at 01:33 PM EST

Failure. To. Protect.

Kat Sun, May 20, 2007 at 11:26 AM EST

I am extremely upset that CBS has decided to cancel Jericho. What is even more terrible is that this show Kid Nation is scheduled to take its place. I for one will not be watching this show or any other show on CBS until the Return of Jericho.

The Save Jericho Campaign is making headway. To help everyone along on their journey, there are various websites dedicated to Saving Jericho!

Darryl Sun, May 20, 2007 at 03:34 AM EST

this is getting pretty lame everytime a cool tv show like jericho comes on they go along and cancel it cause they are'nt getting the rateings they should be cause alot of people are downloading the show instead of watching it on the tv whats the point in getting into any tv show if it only lasts 1 season err

BG Sat, May 19, 2007 at 06:08 PM EST

Appalling...human nature at it's lowest, sickening. Child Exploitation. CBS has hit a new low. Disgusting...the fact that CBS canceled Jericho for this garbage is most puzzling.

David Sat, May 19, 2007 at 05:44 PM EST

NUTS!!! I am sick of reality shows! Bring back Jericho!

Todd Sat, May 19, 2007 at 05:34 PM EST

NUTS!!!! to CBS. If you don't want any shows you watch on CBS to be in jepordy then stand up against what they did to Jericho. You think your show is safe? Jericho was pulling 5.6 ratings against american idol and got cancelled for this garbage. Again I say NUTS!!! to CBS. Boycott CBS now or lose your voice forever!!!!

Susan Sat, May 19, 2007 at 05:30 PM EST

I will not be watching anything CBS has to offer anymore, but especially not this! Not until they bring back Jericho! I can't believe they're replacing Jericho with this insipid, mindless piece of twattle.

Becca Sat, May 19, 2007 at 04:57 PM EST

As the mother of two children, I cannot believe parents would allow their children to be exploited this way. To expose children to public scrutiny in this manner, when children will undoubtedly be experiencing a range of emotions and situations they have never encountered, is quite simply wrong imho. They are children. How could they possibly understand the ramifications? The parents, however, should understand. What parent would want their child known as the kid who wouldn't take a bath for 40 days? You know it's going to happen. Even the so-called adults on Survivor had that issue. Without a doubt, I can say that this show will never be viewed in my family room.

Jackie Sat, May 19, 2007 at 04:35 PM EST

Replacing Jericho with anything would have been disappointing to say the least, but replacing it with more reality drivel?!?!? Come on CBS at least give us quality programming. BRING BACK JERICHO!!!!

Brian Sat, May 19, 2007 at 04:33 PM EST

Having now seen the previews for Kid Nation I find it revolting, disgusting, and nothing more than an exploitation of children. To think that CBS canceled Jericho in favor of this trash is most disturbing. It's all about money, and kid nations costs little make make being a reality show. I hope others will follow and boycott CBS becuase of this.

Holly Sat, May 19, 2007 at 10:50 AM EST

WHAT FOOLS. YEs CBS I'm talking about you. cancelling Jericho will be the dumbest thing ever. Isn't there enough reality shows out there. Come on be original for once. You get one reality show and everyone wants to copy it. STOP WITH THE REALITY SHOW AND BRING BACK JERICHO.

Steve Nappi Sat, May 19, 2007 at 10:43 AM EST

Cancelling Jericho leaving 8 million viewers hanging with a cliffhanger no less, for this crap, is simply unbelievable! Not to mention completely rude! to their viewers.

Jason Sat, May 19, 2007 at 08:22 AM EST

I will watch yet another "reality" show as soon as I receive a massive head wound. What happened to tv for people with functioning brain cells? Bring back Jericho NOW!!!

Cynthia Sat, May 19, 2007 at 03:19 AM EST

Personally I hope this "Kid Nation" crap bombs after two episodes and then maybe whoever is making the god awful decisions over at CBS to cancel shows and betray fans will realize they made the biggest mistake ever cancelling Jericho. I for one am sick of all the reality tv shows, even American Idol. Yes I said it, American Idol. And really, three CSI's is a bit much. I'm sick of them too. I used to watch the original but now I've just given up on the CBS network all together.

I don't know why networks keep choosing to cancel the most compelling, well-written, dramatic shows out there ..but it's time the fans take a stand on this one. CBS I beg you, renew the show or sell the rights to a network that can pick it up because us Jericho fans are relentless and this uproar isn't going to stop any time soon no matter what you think. Nuts to you.

Save Jericho!

Angela Phonchanh Sat, May 19, 2007 at 12:53 AM EST

I also can't believe Jericho is being replaced....by anything. This was by far THE BEST show on TV. I really hope that all our efforts are taken seriously and there is no doubt in anyones mind about our determination to get this show back! We WILL keep fighting for this...so get ready!

Tom Fri, May 18, 2007 at 11:27 PM EST

Unbeleivable. I can see CBS trying this show out. But using it to replace Jericho? Its no wonder the rest of the world thinks of us as idiots. They just watch our shows and shake their heads in bewilderment.

Lori Fri, May 18, 2007 at 11:21 PM EST

I will not be watching "Kid Nation," as the parent of two children, I am appalled that ANY parent would allow their child to participate in a show like this. I am also very disappointed that CBS has chose to cancel the stellar "Jericho" in favor of this show- a show that the Department of Children's Services should really look in to!

Lori Fri, May 18, 2007 at 11:21 PM EST

Mike Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:51 PM EST

I'm sure it just echoes the rest of the comments here, but they seriously cancelled Jericho for tripe like this? This is so getting cancelled after 2 weeks.

Bill Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:47 PM EST

Im surprised Jericho got replaced by this show, it looks similar to many other reality shows just with kids. If cbs wants this show then they should sell Jericho.

Christi, Anchorage Alaska Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:40 PM EST

Hmm, while i appreciate the thought behind this show idea. It is not something that I would watch if there was ANYTHING remotly interesting on. The fact that this is suppose to replace Jericho which was a show I stopped watching american idol for should make all the statement I need

Sarah Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:24 PM EST

So, instead of watching a well thought out show, I should instead settle for yet another reality type television show that promises to deliver nothing of any content or thought. Thank you CBS for helping me leave my Wednesday nights open to other networks. I will gladly switch my network preference to NBC, at least they haven't cancelled any of my favorite programming. Thanks for your help CBS!

Chris Stone Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:24 PM EST

Jericho was cancelled for this?? CBS takes a show where you actually had to think about something and replaced it with child exploitation.

Yvonne Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:23 PM EST

Kid Nation? Give me a break! This is ridiculous! Bring back Jericho and quit the reality crud. America is getting over it already. Stay ahead of the curve, not a decade behind! SAVE JERICHO!

Michelle Mickle Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:21 PM EST

This is definitely not the kind of TV I would watch as a mother of two young children. I love Jericho and would implore CBS to reconsider cancelling it!

Lew Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:21 PM EST

This is the LAST thing I would ever watch...a bunch of unsupervised, loud kids running wild? I can go outside to see that. I am DONE with CBS..bring back JERICHO!

Anita Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:15 PM EST

You have got to be kidding me! What kind of parent would allow their kid to go live without adults for 40 days? Is this a joke?

Denise Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:04 PM EST

Children arguing, fighting and unsupervised to make whatever decisions they want. Exactly what I don't want to watch after my children go to bed.
I want to be entertained, not feel like I need to send someone to their room. That is the best they have?
I agree with the other comments. Jericho was a good show. I am surprised they canceled it.

Jenna Axt Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:58 PM EST

Woohoo!!! I'm so excited to see how long it takes this show to fail. Reality shows are getting old and as a mother I can't believe that parents would allow their children to participate in such nonsense. What is this world coming to. Where are all the old shows with some good old family values, like for instance.......JERICHO. Oh that's right, it was cancelled so that this type of garbage can have a spot. Here's an idea for some reality tv. How about a reality show where cbs has to hire additional staff just to check the web boards to see what the Jericho army is planning and also another employee or 5 to open all the extra mail and packages of nuts that is flooding their offices. Bring back Jericho!!!!!

Randy Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:57 PM EST

As a mandated reporter, I honestly feel compelled to report CBS to CPS. This exploitation is beyond disgusting. You combine putting this piece of garbage on with cancelling Jericho, you have to wonder if CBS's execs are insane or are tanking the network on purpose. Yes, there can be gain found in failure. If they don't change their minds, I for one am DONE with CBS.

Bill Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:43 PM EST

Child prostitution and humiliation - that's CBS thinks is good programing - the people at CBS are sick and should be prosecuted in the states where such exploitation is illegal.

Lucretia Riazzi Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:39 PM EST

Bring back Jericho or lose all of its loyal viewers!!!!!!!!

Bill Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:38 PM EST

It's a shame that CBS would replace a good show like Jericho with a show that will appeal to pediphiles and perverts.

Obviously CBS is moving toward the gutter. I guess the next show will be a Jon-Benet Ramsey look alike contest.

Leslee Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:31 PM EST

I wish we would see some action from CBS about our views and wishes about keeping Jericho! I have never gotten involved in something like this but I was outraged at the cancellation of this show. I like a couple other shows on CBS but not enough to watch it ever again if they don't find a way to put it back on. I can watch all kinds of stuff on other networks.....No Jericho, No CBS!

Gale Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:16 PM EST

So what is this saying to the kids of America and the world "You don't need grownups invading your business, you can handle life on your own. Tell authority to GTH. I hope parent groups sue CBS for all its worth. And I say NUTS to you. Bring back Jericho.

Tara Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:13 PM EST

Nobody wants to see a kids reality show on prime time TV it should be on saturday morning cartoons SAVE JERICHO

Ron Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:12 PM EST

Another reality based show! shocker!
Axe a fantastic serial drama with consistent viewers for this? Cumon CBS, shame on you. Bring back Jericho!

Donna Ferreira Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:07 PM EST

I have 2 words for CBS:

Star Trek

Give Jericho another season and another chance. Look what happened when Star Trek was given a second chance. PLEASE, not another "reality show."

stewart Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:06 PM EST

I just watched the trailer/intro for this show and it was downright disturbing. Taking children that young from their families and thrusting them into a cut-throat competitive ghost town is sick and disturbing. This is what CBS thinks people want to see? Somebody seriously dropped the ball when they decided to cancel Jericho. SAVE JERICHO!

Dareik Jones Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:04 PM EST

I'll never watch this or any other show on CBS again until the Return of Jericho!

Angi Tavares Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:37 PM EST

I will never watch any CBS show again. How in the world did a room of allegedly educated executives decide to cancel Jericho. I am committed to forever boycotting CBS. I am glad to see that I am not alone

Todd Peterson Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:31 PM EST

We know CBS is crazy because they cancelled Jericho but they're insane if they think this show is anything other than garbage!
Save Jericho!

I am not a TV watcher. I wouldn't even have cable if it wasn't for my wife and toddler, but this past season I finally found a show that was able to catch my attention. Jericho was that show. No more reality TV, or any of that other mindless junk that is now being proposed. Jericho was one of the few shows on in a while that was actually good.

You've got to be kidding me. We're done, CBS. You're dead to me, dead.

Tori Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:17 PM EST

CBS executives should be ashamed. What they and the parents of those children are doing is obscene. To risk children for money and ratings is beyond forgiving. Count me out as a viewer. Count me out as a CBS viewer unless the bring back JERICHO.

This show sounds really stupid!! CBS, haven't you got the message that people are SICK of reality shows, especially when they exploit children! You should have stuck with Jericho!

Mary Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:36 PM EST

We were avid watchers of Jericho, and we often caught up on Innertube. CBS took away the one show we had to catch every week. Very disappointing.

Heather W. Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:33 PM EST

THIS is what we get in place of Jericho??!! Come on, CBS, you really are nuts! Give us back Jericho, not another reality TV show that's an insult to viewers everywhere!

Ed Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:58 PM EST

I guess I'll comment on this show while I'm here. I wouldn't watch this if it was the only thing on TV. When idiotic new programs crash & burn, and the viewers marvels at the fact that such things ever made it on the air...I think the networks really need a new method of putting their finger on the pulse of the TV audience.

Ed Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:53 PM EST

Nuts to CBS! Jericho deserves better than this. I hope they hear the voice of the fans and return this show to their lineup. It's not only that they left the story hanging, but they didn't give the show a chance to grow and develop beyond one erratically-scheduled season. Save Jericho!

Jim2000 Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:40 PM EST

I will not be watchng any new shows on CBS no matter how good they look. Moonlight looks like it might be an awesome show but I refuse to watch it, I may after its been on for tw or more seasons and then ill rent the previous seasons on dvd. No longer will I invest my time on new shows on CBS when all I have look forward to is them cancelling the show and offering up mindles drivel like more reality shows. This show may be good or it may not be but I will certainly never know. CBS cancelling Jericho was the last straw. I will watch shows on CBS That I already watch, which is only 2 Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs, but no new shows for me, been there done that aint gonna be yanked around again.

Donna Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:33 PM EST

I am shocked that Jericho has this passionate of a fan base. Now I'm sorry I passed on it when it first came out.

Penny Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:22 PM EST

CBS = Completely Bankrupt Sychophants

How can CBS justify this garbage as a replacement for Jericho? And who are the bankrupt parents who allowed their children to participate in this garbage? Instead of airing this and exploiting these kids, someone should be calling CPS.

This is crap ... more reality crap from a once proud network that now deals in crap!

Too many good shows are cacelled for the wrong reasons. Firefly and Jericho are two that are foremost.
Reality TV is the worst. Relax folks... I just cancelled CBS. (in my home only, unfortunately)

Rosanne Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:16 PM EST

Even if I wasn't a huge Jericho Fan I would not watch this garbage. As a parent I am shocked that any decent parent would let their children be exploited so shamelessly. How low as a society have we sunk that we would allow our children to be subjected to this for entertainment purposes???

Fred T Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:16 PM EST

May CBS's idea is to have Hawkins use his nuke to take out these idiot kids and truely turn it into a "ghost town Bonanza City, New Mexico"

Brian Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:15 PM EST

It's really sad that CBS cancelled an engaging drama like Jericho for trash TV like this. Today it's exploiting children, what's next? Nothing is taboo for the money hungry execs at CBS.

Swann1 Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:15 PM EST

It is just unbelievable that they would cancel another good tv show for something that can only be described as tripe. We don't need anymore stupid reality shows. No one is interested in some stupid show about kids with no supervision. I'll be going back to the book store for sure. If this stands we should all boycott CBS!! PLEASE SAVE JERICHO!!

Joe Hammer Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:12 PM EST

This is suppose to draw more people then Jericho? who is CBS trying to fool? SAVE JERICHO!!!!!!!

watching a bunch of kids in a big playground over Jericho. What a joke,Jericho is good quilty Tv. Not going to spend my time watching kids cry.

jerome Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:09 PM EST

Is there any hope that jericho can be saved, will TNT by it? Ive emailed CBS and about 3 or 4 of there Executives

Ben Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:08 PM EST

You canceled Jericho for this! CBS you are see a dramatic drop in viewership because of this. This is just reality drivel. If I wanted reality I would live my life, not watch t.v.

J. Gellner Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:07 PM EST

BRING BACK JERICHO!!!!! Finally a show that is different and makes you actually think and wonder "what if", and CBS cancels it!!!! The least CBS could do for the Jericho fans is to run a short 5-6 show final season so we could see how the series can end, OR let another network pick it up like TNT, and let them take charge of it. Please bring back JERICHO!!!! Also, NO MORE REALITY SHOWS!!!

Steve Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:06 PM EST

I can't believe the cancelled Jericho for this garbage. Great move CBS...cancel the best show on TV for another stupid reality show....great.

NUTS!

Flo Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:58 PM EST

I think we have too many reality shows already--and if the recent ones are any sign, it's time to get rid of them. I can't understand what the folks at CBS are thinking, replacing quality shows like Jericho with this dribble. I think it's time to take up reading again!!! Kid Nation sounds like one of the dumbest concepts I've ever heard of. I've also heard that they are doing a musical--an American version of the British show "Viva Blackpool". I love British TV and as far as I'm concerned, "Viva" was a clunker there and I'm positive it will be a clunker here. Bring back Jericho and The Class!!!

Troy West Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:55 PM EST

If I want to watch a bunch of annoying kids, I will watch "Who's Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?"
I want Jericho back. Best show CBS had, and they throw it out? It is bad enough I had to change to the NBC news because CBS made theirs impossible to watch when they hired Katie Couric. She is a talk show host, not a News Host. Now you take off the best new show you have? Kid Nation? How dumb do you think your viewers are?

Matt Maulding Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:54 PM EST

Why would CBS choose to cancel a great show like Jericho, that shows tremendous potential, for this trite and meaningless garbage called KidNation?? SAVE JERICHO NOW!!

jason gordon Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:52 PM EST

SOMEONE MUST HELP SAVE JERICHO, CBS/JERICHO, IF YOU NEVER SEEN THE SHOW, YOU WONT WONT TO FORGIVE YOURSELF IF WE LET THEM TAKE THIS ONE AWAY, SAVE JERICHO111111

KiraAR Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:51 PM EST

What kind of parents would let their kids be on a show like this?!?

So basically, CBS figured, let's make kids cry, film it, and make a whole bunch of money? EXPLOITATION!

I can't believe they cancelled an awesome show like "Jericho" for more reality TV drivel.

SAVE JERICHO, dump KidNation.

I am staggeringly disappointed that yet another reality show (with children yet!) is on the horizon in place of Jericho. Wow! Is someone being blackmailed at CBS???

AKeener Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:49 PM EST

Boycott CBS and all their advertisers. Bring back Jericho, Nuts! i.e. Go to Hell!

pvt. Mike Allegretto of the Jericho Militia Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:48 PM EST

Jericho's cancellation due to low ratings was illicit. the show sold episodes extremely well on i-tunes, xbox marketplace and other fine internet sites. For a network to advertise their show as internet interactive then IGNORE said internet sales and activity is evil. they also claim that the long winter hiatus was the cause of the ratings drop yet said "oh well too bad" and still cancelled it. someone at CBS cancelled this show for some other reason than falsely claimed low ratings. Bring Jericho Back!!!

Chris Herzig Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:46 PM EST

SAVE JERICHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

LC Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

There is enough reality on television. Intelligent viewers want shows that make us think and a reality show about group of kids doesn't cut it. This show is replacing Jericho, a thought-provoking, superb commentary on the American spirit.

CBS should dump this show and bring back Jericho...THAT'S the kind of Nation we want to see, NOT Kid Nation.

Tracy Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

Who wants this junk when it takes the place of quality entertainment? Bring back Jericho!

Travis Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

Jericho was CBS's only good show and they cancel it for this trash? I thought pot was illegal...

Chris Herzig Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:45 PM EST

SAVE JERICHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dawn Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:44 PM EST

No offense to parents or children, but one of the great things for me about being home in the evenings is no screaming children. This is not something I would choose to watch AT ALL. Yes, I am a huge Jericho fan and would very much like to see it return; but even if I wasn't I still would not watch 'Kid Nation' (or any show that attempts to be a musical--another CBS fall 'newbie' with a silly premise. Cop Rock, anyone?)

sarah Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:38 PM EST

We have enough reality based television. CBS has made a poor choice in getting rid of a great show that is Jericho to add one more reality show......Survivor, Pirate Master, Kid Nation, etc, etc, etc....Please bring back Jericho. It was one of the few dramas that had true drama.

Al Bundy Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:36 PM EST

This is why Jericho is cancelled? Is CBS serious ??? This show sounds awful. BRING BACK JERICHO !!!!!!!!!!

Rhonnie Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:35 PM EST

This is not a suitable replacement for any TV show! My children and I watched Jericho on Wed. nights together. We actually discussed what was happening and cared about the characters. Many kids today are too concerned with themselves to be able to 'work together' and too spoiled to appreciate what they have. And now we're going to give them a reality show too? It's a shame they aren't being taught morals and values and manners. No CBS would rather teach them to be adults and give them the impression that they can do it themselves. Isn't there a book about this? Lord of the Flies? Don't they eventually end up turning on each other? CBS don't be a de-duh-dee!!! Bring Jericho back! KidNation is not a suitable show for families or children!
NUTS!!!!

gina Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:34 PM EST

This is a move beyond stupidity into the realm of insanity. How did this even come into existence? Let's see, people love reality tv, kids are great ratings. Oh, let's combine it! Ridiculous. I see many comments regarding Jericho. While I did not watch Jericho - I don't watch any new shows until they are renewed for a second season for EXACTLY this reason - it seems CBS is happily trading in a beloved show with a rabid fanbase for complete garbage. So the ratings for Jericho dipped after an extended break. That happens all the time when a show is put on hiatus. The execs know that will happen. Can we all take a moment to remember Surface? Same situation. Simply put, when a new show does not instantly receive astronomical viewership the networks will find a way to kill it and try again with new junk. And that's precisely what Kid Nation is - junk. Good luck with the DVD sales of this show vs something like Jericho. It seems most people won't even watch this once, let alone purchase DVD.

cacusc98 Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:32 PM EST

Seriously? The Idiots that Be over at CBS thought this would be a better show than Jericho? Really?!? That's just plain NUTS!

Nester White Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:30 PM EST

Kid Nation is a weak idea put together by people with no imagination. It is replacing Jericho, the best new television show since 24. CBS is losing an incredible cast and a dramatic plotine. I hope that some other network picks up Jericho and prospers greatly from it. I look forward to Kid Nation tanking.

louise Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:26 PM EST

why.....why, no seriously why?
why are our dramas being taken of the air for this tripe,
my 6 yr old son could do better.
i trying to find an excuse for but the only thing i came up with was you must have been drunk.

Missi Kelsey Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:24 PM EST

THIS IS WHY 'JERICHO' WAS CANCELLED????There are enough homeless children out on the street without parental supervision! Who is the idiot that came up with this idea? If you want to see how kids act together, go visit some of the school playgrounds and cafeterias. Put this on the CW network - GIVE US BACK JERICHO!

D Lessard Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:23 PM EST

Steven Fri, May 18, 2007 at 01:56 PM EST

I just watched the preview vid, and I will most definitely NOT be tuning in to see this show. I think our society has a tendency to expect our children to grow up so fast, and this show just supports it. Kids need to be kids! You're putting adult issues and pressures on kids, and that's not healthy. You say the experience teaches them about creating a society without greed, but what happens when they learn this society they create is really just a fantasy. I mean, think about it, after the show's over what are they going to be faced with when they go out into the real world? I just don't see why CBS would give this show the green light. It just looks absurd.

tim Fri, May 18, 2007 at 01:53 PM EST

I am astonished at the cancellation of Jericho! Jericho is THE favorite show in our house! If I have to work when it’s on, I tivo it and I watch it the second I get home! Never in my life have I had this kind of addiction to a show!

I really don't agree with the move to cancel "Jericho" and replace it with "Kid Nation." Jericho had a clever premise which was brought to life through exquisite writing, cinematography, and acting. Every episode evoked a vast range of emotions from its viewers, and that's why so many people (including myself)are upset over its cancellation. It was more than just something to watch, it was something that made us laugh and cry. It was something that held us in suspense, and at times, shocked us. Jericho is, in my opinion, one of the best shows in years to be broadcast on network TV in primetime. I think CBS should reconsider their decision and give Jericho another chance.

Brian Fri, May 18, 2007 at 01:21 PM EST

The decision to replace a good quality show(Jericho) with promise with yet another reality show is disgusting to say the least. At least Jericho got everyone thinking, now we get to watch more people, kids now, sink to the lowest level of human nature to what? Win a prize. I will be boycotting CBS and it's Sponsors for over this move.

Mike Fri, May 18, 2007 at 01:15 PM EST

They cancel Jericho and order this show? Wow. I know reality shows are dirt cheap to make but I am starting to believe that CBS may be a little out of touch with reality. Jericho was great. One of those rare quality shows that comes around once every few years. The decision to cancel a show like Jericho is why the major networks will disappear over the next decade and be replaced by cable networks.

Eileen Fri, May 18, 2007 at 01:15 PM EST

Jim Fri, May 18, 2007 at 12:54 PM EST

Let's see, you have Survivor, that worked, then we the Survivor race (Amazing Race) then we are going to Survivor on boats (Pirate Master) then for the BIG finale, we go to Survivor for kids, (Kid Nation) brilliant way to mix up your programming to bring diversity to your line-up, always good to get rid of a show that has an established audience, (there are many shows that don't touch Jericho) that could grow, for one that is definitely a loser.
Way to go CBS, oops, you did it again.. NUTS !!

Fri, May 18, 2007 at 12:53 PM EST

Bring back Jericho! Nobody wants this drivel!

Doug Caffarel Fri, May 18, 2007 at 12:53 PM EST

Sounds like the fertile minds at CBS think that "Lord of the Flies" would make a good reality series. Sounds like borderline child abuse to me.

What do expect from a newtork that cancels a promising adult drama like "Jericho" for puerile faire such as this. Instead of trying to elevate and entertain its audience, CBS seeks to pander to the least common denominator.

Daniel Miley Fri, May 18, 2007 at 12:52 PM EST

Varinia Kirk Fri, May 18, 2007 at 12:12 PM EST

The idea that Kid Nation is taking the spot of Jericho is absurd. CBS will lose 8-11 million viewers that are old enough to buy advertisers products to a bunch of whining kids that are going to beg, plead, and bombard their parents who may or may not (most likely not) buy anything.
And to think that Jericho fans are going to stay with any type or reality show is absurd. This plan is "Nuts". As the execs at CBS are finding out daily. ;)

Lisa Fri, May 18, 2007 at 12:02 PM EST

Lame show for a lame network. Hoping that another network (TNT, USA, SciFi) picks up Jericho. Any of these networks would LOVE the 8-11 million viewers that don't fit into CBS' target market (so sorry I'm not 14, but I do still spend money that your advertisers take for granted). Won't be watching CBS anymore. SAVE JERICHO!

Rob Fri, May 18, 2007 at 11:41 AM EST

It was a poor business decision and lapse of judgment on CBS's part to pull the show for a couple of months, which caused it to lose viewers! ABC did the same thing to Lost and their viewership went down hill as well, but even they know when they have a good show and stick by it, by keeping Lost for another 2 seasons. CBS needs to stick by Jericho and clean up its mistakes.

Courtney Santos Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:31 AM EST

NUTS! Put the kids on another night - we want our 2nd season of JERICHO!

Jericho Fan Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:31 AM EST

Why did CBS cancel Jericho?

Does anyone have a real answer?

NUTS!

Tracey Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:28 AM EST

Gee, just what I want my 3 children to be watching. Everyone wonders why there are so many problems in society. It is garbage like this on television. Let's exploit our children, make them suffer and watch them cry on a weekly basis (oh yeah, those execs at CBS are really on the ball now!) This show is a mistake and I, as a mother of 3 school age children is apalled at the lack of respect being shown for family oriented television, ie Jericho! Now let me tell you, this is a GREAT show! My family watched faithfully every week and looked forward to figuring out through the week, what we thought would happen next! To replace a show like Jericho, that has such great talent and wonderful storyline with another mindless reality show that does nothing but exploit children is absolutely disgusting! Someone needs to rethink their decision to cancel one of the BEST shows on TV.....As my kids would say "JERICHO ROCKS!!!!!" BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!

Angry Jericho Fan Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:28 AM EST

CBS better get its act together on Jericho. Seriously, they are making several million people VERY mad. I will not only ditch CBS, but I will make it a point to get as many people as I can to do likewise.

Brian Benjamin Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:12 AM EST

I am writing this letter to you to express my complete shock and disappointment in the cancellation of Jericho, which was not only one of the best shows on the CBS network, but on all of television. Jericho is a show that appeals to almost everyone; has an excellent cast; an incredible storyline; and an originality that not many shows on network TV possess anymore.

If CBS does indeed cancel Jericho, they will have lost a viewer for life. I have already removed the CBS channel from my programming guide, and will not endorse any of their sponsors whatsoever.

Rachel B Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:08 AM EST

CBS has lost it. Jericho was a tremendous show with thought provoking episodes and lots of action. I can't believe the stupidity of the kiddy-survivor idea. What's going on at that network? They should bring back Jericho - no question.

art delgado Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:07 AM EST

The fact that CBS would cancel Jericho, and instead place "Kid Nation" in the timeslot proves to me the utter contempt CBS has for the intelligence of their audience. If they belive I'm going to tune in weekly to view this trite example of kid explotation and chicanery, I'd like to try some of the crack the CBS "suits" are obviously smoking!

art delgado Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:04 AM EST

Bring back Jericho! CBS, please don't bomb this great show!

Mtnred Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:00 AM EST

Kiddie Survivor? Are you kdding me? Couldn't this be considered child abuse? The fact that CBS cancelled a fabulous drama "Jericho" for this is beyond insulting. I will not watch one minute.

Franky Fri, May 18, 2007 at 10:00 AM EST

BRING BACK JERICHO!!!!!!!!

Lisa Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:38 AM EST

How many times do we have to be subjected to yet another reality show? Please, CBS, give Jericho a shot. This show has a very loyal and dedicated following.

Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:37 AM EST

Bring Back Jericho!

Tracy Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:32 AM EST

The concept is interesting. I'll give them that. Kind of like Frontier House on PBS. But I like the idea for adults. Having and 8 year old have that kind of stress is ridulous. Americans are stressed enough as it is with their adults, now we have to add it to the children? NUTS Jericho....

Scott Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:27 AM EST

Kid nation? **cough** RIP-OFF! If I want "Lord of the Flies" I'll read the book and I WON'T be watching! Bring Jericho back!!!

Matthew Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:26 AM EST

I am shocked that this is what won out over Jericho. Already kids think they can do without parents, now a show to try and glorify that? Heck why don't we just make the legal drinking age 8.5 now, since that was the youngest kid there? If my daughter was old enough to watch and understand this garbage, I would not allow her to view it, because it obviously tries to glorify children who think they are "all grown up".

All I can say is CBS better reinstate Jericho before it is too late, and the cast and crew have to move on to other work. CBS, you better listen to the masses.

NUTS!!

doris Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:12 AM EST

I with most people here, they cancel Jericho and put this kinda stuff on. CBS won't be on my TV.

Holly Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:11 AM EST

I loved Jericho too and would LOVE to see CBS bring it back on....but don't you people understand televsion scheduling AT ALL?!?!?! One show, even when it's in the same time slot, doesn't directly replace another one. CBS could have kept Jericho AND added new shows, like the Kid Nation show that is getting slammed. Some of the new and returning dramas look way worse than Jericho and maybe one of those should be canned. Kid Nation looks like an awesome show. I think all the people with the negative comments will be eating their words if they just give Kid Nation a chance. If you've ever taken the time to actually listen to some kids, you would know that they can be more articulate, thoughtful, intelligent, and wise than some adults -- certainly than some of the adults who have posted here who can't even write a clear sentence or spell.

Dave Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:09 AM EST

Look at ABC and the mega-success of Lost.
Look at NBC and the mega-success of Heroes.

What CBS show is the most comparable to the same genre and audience of those two shows?

Jericho!

You didn't give it enough time, to continue to grow. Plus, you made a horribly bad decision slotting it opposite American Idol.

Revive and un-cancel Jericho, and move it to a decent time-slot, and give it one more year.

The Jericho audience is the Lost/Heroes audience.

Wake up and realize you have a great show with Jericho.

The best new show on CBS.
The 2nd best new show on all Networks.

Dave

Bring back Jericho! NUTS!!!

Jay Fri, May 18, 2007 at 09:00 AM EST

We the faithful have loyally tuned in to Jericho all season and have become invested in the rich plotline and characters. To replace this show with Kid Nation shows a significant lack of respect and appreciation for its loyal viewers in order to give them a cheap product. CBS is trading the value-oriented programming that is Jericho for a program that puts forth an image that even children must win by any means necessary, even by lying and cheating. I will not watch Kid Nation...I will watch Jericho.

Derek VanW, 26 y/o Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:58 AM EST

Please save Jericho!!

Dave H Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:57 AM EST

Kid Nation? Thanks for the warning. Now I'll know what NOT to watch. This to replace Jericho????????

I guess the inmates are running the asylum.......

dave Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:50 AM EST

CBS has lost it's mind! Jericho kicked proverbial rump and they're replacing it with a show about what kids should be taught by they're parents and in school? Screw CBS...

JERICHO NUT Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:42 AM EST

I would really like to know who in their right mind would think that a TV show like "Kid Nation" should even be allowed to air. I believe it exploits children for profit and it just another symbol of what is so very wrong with our society today. Not to mention that they cancelled a unique, compelling, family-friendly dramatic series for this garbage. BRING BACK JERICHO!!!!!
For more informayion on how to save Jericho visit www.savejericho.com, they have serveal campaigns going including sending NUTS to CBS!!! Make them wish they were dealing with Ravenwood and not JERICHO NUTS!!!!

chad Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:32 AM EST

For the love of humankind please do not air this. No more crappy reality tv. BRING BACK JERICHO.

Ginger Lessing Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:32 AM EST

This is replacing Jericho? Just what we need ANOTHER reality show!! NUTS!
PLEASE BRING JERICHO BACK!!!!

chad Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:30 AM EST

another crap reality show? For the love of humankind please stop this senseless drivel. Bring back good TV like JERICHO.

Linda Juneau Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:22 AM EST

I am very sorry to see that Jericho will not be back next year and more importantly that the series didn't end. It was a good show, perhaps not the best ever, but it was certainly a good show and not the usual repetitive, copycat shows that seem to be all that survives on tv. I think CBS should have given it a second full season or at the very least bring it back for half a season and end it. Clearly all the folks who seem angry that the show was cancelled must have been regular viewers - do you really think that we will switch to another show? I don't think so. DVD's and movies sound like a better alternative.

Julie Fri, May 18, 2007 at 08:16 AM EST

Watching that clip, I have just dissolved into tears. I am so hooked. My husband will kill me when he finds me watching this next fall!

Andi Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:52 AM EST

I'm unspeakably disappointed with the new CBS lineup. Jericho was so good that my husband and I are still discussing it -- plot points, social issues, etc --long after the season finale, and even after learning that CBS has canceled it.

Neither of us can believe that "Kid Nation" isn't a joke. Do the execs at CBS really think that the more than 8 million people who tuned in every Wednesday to watch Jericho, plus all the others who DVR'd/TiVo'd it or watched in online at InnerTube, will really want to watch a "reality" show about a bunch of little kids in a deserted town -- much less want to watch it more than they desperately want to know what happens next in Jericho?

CBS truly is NUTS!

LORI HARRIS Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:44 AM EST

I FIND IT ABSURD TO THINK A WELL WRITTEN THOUGHT PROVOKING SHOW LIKE JERICHO WOULD GET THE BOOT FOR THIS MINDLESS DRIBBLE. LES MOONVES WISE UP YOUR FALL LINE UP IS FRANCHISE COOKIE CUTTER AND UNORIGINAL TRIPE AND "REALITY" TRASH T.V.YOU HAD THE BEST NEW SHOW ON T.V. AND YOUR PROGRAMMERS BLEW IT. JERICHO EASILY RIVALED LOST BUT YOU BURIED IT WITH A 3 MONTH HIATUS AND THEN WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RATINGS.WHO HAS A NIELSON BOX ANYWAY? EVIDENTLY LES MOONVES BECAUSE HS DIDN'T SEE WHAT A HIT HE HAD.

Please bring back Jericho. My family loves it. CBS... you made a mistake and need to correct it. Bring back Jericho!!!

Cliff Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:36 AM EST

I cannot believe that CBS has replaced such a quality show as Jericho with another stupid reality show. I have been keeping tabs on friends and family and so far I know 37 people that are boycotting CBS because of this travesty. I have blocked CBS in my home and in my business. NUTS TO CBS!!

Sue Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:31 AM EST

Come on CBS! Give the fans what they want. Bring back Jericho. Just say no to cheap not so reality junk and give us the quality show we demand!!!

Sue Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:31 AM EST

Come on CBS! Give the fans what they want. Bring back Jericho. Just say no to cheap not so reality junk and give us the quality show we demand!!!

VaBrowncoat Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:27 AM EST

What?!? CBS is putting on another "reality" show? One that is basically child exploitation? Are they that desperate for ratings?

How could they cancel an intelligent, inthralling drama like "Jericho" for this tripe?!?

Guess CBS can kiss our household viewership goodbye.

Lea Fri, May 18, 2007 at 07:10 AM EST

I am shocked that Jericho is being replace with this. It is sad that crying children are what we are given as a replacement. My family will not be watching CBS. By the way, what were those parents thinking??? Shame on them and nuts to CBS.

Valerie Fri, May 18, 2007 at 06:59 AM EST

This show is an atrocity. It reflects badly on the entire CBS network that they would deal directly in child exploitation. We have enough kids raising themselves, now we make it *fun* and give out prizes?

Download a dose of reality.

And this replaces an intelligent, moving, and unique show like Jericho that was cancelled after every indication it would be renewed? That left us with multiple dangling threads? That actually had a point?

We fans are not surrendering. We are fighting CBS and their decision. We want our show back and will keep it up until we get our wishes. My guess is that Kidnation will be an empty spot on the CBS lineup in a week or two after massive parental outcrys and they'll have space to return Jericho.

Jim Johnston Fri, May 18, 2007 at 06:23 AM EST

No Jericho, No CBS. It was a total disgrace that CBS canceled that show.

Jacq Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:56 AM EST

Bonjour, me and my friends here in France love the show JERiCHO, please dont cancel it. Please!! FRANCE loves JERICHO!!!!

Holly Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:44 AM EST

I just watched the video and I can't believe this is replacing Jericho. These kids are going to have some major mental problems after this show gets canceled. This show does not strike me as interesting at all-they just kept shouting at each other! Bring back Jericho!

keith Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:43 AM EST

why ruin a great show like jericho for THIS.

Henk Visser Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:41 AM EST

MESSAGE from the Netherlands:
A lot of people here in the Netherlands watch Jericho. How stupid can a TV station like CBS cancel a show like this. Al lot of great game shows are greated in the Netherlands (deal or no deal, big brother, weakest link, etc etc). We, the ducth people know when a show is GREAT. JERICHO is one of them. CBS will cut itself in the fingers!! There is a big fanbase here, and CBS shows and DVD's will be boycotted if JERCIHO wont air next season.

Have a nice day!

Rosalea Eldridge Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:38 AM EST

The only show we ever watched on CBS was Jericho, cancel it and we'll never have your network on at all. We love the show, it is very intelligent and well written with lots of suspense, try doing that with Kid Nation. Please reconsider, because this show is worth giving another chance. The fans of this show are fighters, we won't give up that easily! Keep Jericho! It Rocks!

melissa schurr Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:38 AM EST

Am and viewer from Australia and just wanted to add my extreme displeasure that Jericho has been cancelled so that yet another ridiculous reality TV show can be put on.

Jericho is an outstanding show that deserves the chance to hook more viewers once they see that it has a second year (I believe many, many people don't get invested in new shows anymore as they disappear so very quickly). The long break in the middle of the season must have hurt the ratings tremendously.

Please, please reconsider giving Jericho a second season!!!

camille ney Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:36 AM EST

Not a show my family will be watching. We don't need anymore (un)reality shows. I consider myself an intelligent person and above "junk-food" t.v. Bring back Jericho!!! There's a show that excercises the mind

keith Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:34 AM EST

why rune a great show like jericho for THIS.

Boo! Don't cancel Jericho you fools.

Aleckale Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:05 AM EST

Jericho was by far one of the best shows on television, and it got cancelled for THIS garbage? Not only am i outraged by this slap in the face, but im definetely going to be submitting an article to my editor saturday to get this murderous crime published by sunday's paper.

Kate Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:05 AM EST

No thanks! No CBS show will be seen in my home ever again. CBS replaces Jericho, with 'Kid Nation'? I guess that makes sense. Let's replace an intelligent and relevant show that actually makes you think, with more reality mindless drivel. CBS is a joke.

Krystal B. Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:04 AM EST

I will not watch Kid Nation. I feel slighted by CBS's decision to cancel Jericho, and I'm ready to give up on them.

They pit Jericho against American Idol, they take a 10 week break in the middle of the season, they do very little advertising for the show in the first place, and then they are SURPRISED when the ratings take a dip?!? Even seasoned shows like LOST dropped significantly in ratings after their extended mid-season break. Heck, Jericho did darn good in ratings, all things considered. How can CBS punish the fans for their own terrible mistakes? I don't think the ratings system even counts the huge number of people who watched the episodes online, or the people who taped/Tivoed the show to watch later.

I do not trust CBS to keep good television around anymore. They present us with wonderful storylines, encourage us to invest our time and our emotions in their dramas, and once we're hooked, they rip them away without so much as a proper conclusion.

Monique Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:03 AM EST

Bring back Jericho and we will leave this show alone!

Mircea Fri, May 18, 2007 at 05:00 AM EST

BKJ Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:57 AM EST

CBS, its only a matter of time before you will be taking Kid Nation OFF the air and putting Jericho back ON. We will not stop lobbying until Jericho is back on the air. You have opened Pandora's Box.

SI Arnold Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:48 AM EST

Cancel Jericho for THIS??? Jericho was the only CBS show I watched, and one of the few shows I watch regularly. I'm boycotting CBS. NUTS to CBS!!!

Andy Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:44 AM EST

My family and I are Boycotting CBS since they choose to cancel Jericho. We are not even going to watch CSI, NCIS, The Unit or Shark.

All Jericho fans should contact the CBS advertisers and express their displeasure, NO JERICHO, NO PURCHAES!!!!

George Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:37 AM EST

Without JERICHO in the fall line-up I see no need whatsoever to give another moment of my time to viewing anything on CBS. I especially will not be watching any more (so called) realityTV clones or mindless sitcoms. Television may indeed be a "vast wasteland", but my family and I were able to find an oasis in the "Desert of Dreck" that is network television, and that oasis was a fictional small town in western Kansas...JERICHO. I am the father of 4 children ages 12-20, and without fail we were all home and tuned to CBS on Wednesday evenings when JERICHO aired, never missed a single episode. It was the only intelligent, mature program that I could watch with all of my kids, and after every episode we would spend hours over the next week discussing what we thought was going to happen next or who was responsible for what. It was a FAMILY DRAMA, a rare commodity in this day and age of mindless programming. No Retreat, No Surrender. To CBS I say NUTS!

Jeff Fri, May 18, 2007 at 04:15 AM EST

I am very dissapointed that Jericho has been cancelled, this act has made me lose faith in CBS as a network. I will not be watching anymore shows on CBS unless Jericho is ressurected. Bring back Jericho!

When you "empower" kids into thinking that they can handle any situation by themselves without adult supervision, you either end up with a spoiled brat or a picture on the back of a milk carton.
And yes, I was a fan of Jericho and CBS has lost me as a viewer.

Jordan Williams Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:28 AM EST

Dont we have enough Reality in our lives. How about some escapism. Such as the cruelly cancelled CBS Hit Jericho. Of course if you insist on watching Kid Nation and you dont like it or it gets cancelled, perhaps you could tune into CBS's other new family friendly fall show about the Stoned wife swapping hippies. Maybe it would be more to you and your childrens liking. CBS Sucks

Joe Rhea Fri, May 18, 2007 at 03:18 AM EST

Dont we have enough unsupervised kids running their own lives allready?? I cant see where this show will have any real entertainment value. And more than likely CBS will cancell it halfway thru like they did with the Best show they had in years Jericho.

goady Fri, May 18, 2007 at 02:53 AM EST

If this show is supposed to sway American Idol viewers over they don't realize how it is a drug for these people and abandoning an entirley new fan base that is just barely getting tapped into. More reality shows? My college buddies and I will pass. bring back Jericho.
