Wanted: Clips of the Kevin Costner Band

Jan 25, 2007, 05:26 PM | by Mandi Bierly

Categories: Film, Music

I tend to forget how much I love Kevin Costner until about 3 p.m. on the Friday he has a movie coming out. Then, without fail, I find myself overcome with the desire to see him again. (I also, undoubtedly, discover that my friends and cornered colleagues all have "other plans.")

I've heard about the Kevin Costner Band before, but it wasn't until I was forwarded this link -- announcing that they'll play a pre-race concert at Feb. 25's Auto Club 500 at California Speedway -- that I remembered I really need to hear them. (Guess that means he's not going to the Oscars.) According to the press release (which also names the Oscar winner the Grand Marshal of the NASCAR Nextel Cup race), his six-piece rock band "made its public debut in August 2006 at the Field of Dreams film site in Dyersville, Iowa, drawing thousands of fans. Since then, they have played numerous venues across the country." And yet, no one has posted a clip on YouTube? How can that be? Seriously, Iowa. Hook. Me. Up.

I heard Kevin's band and he can't sing! PLEEEEASE... Good Lord, he sings like he acts... monotone. The worst part is Kevin THINKS he's a great singer, like he THINKS he's a great actor. Too, many butt kissers in this man's world.

Kevin Costner and his band are playing in Eugene, OR this Fri-Sat. May 30-31 at 8:00pm both nights at the Hult Center.

I have only seen clips of kevin's bands on youtube. yer they sound ok. As long as he is having fun who cares what people think!!!!! i think it's fab that he is moving into other things not just acting but for his acting is what we love him for!!!

I saw Kev's band, Modern West, last month in Canada. Great concert, well worth the trip from North Carolina. Plus, there was some big water fall. LOL

Interesting how several comments I've read about Kevin's bad have been hateful and negative....but they haven't heard the band....simply supid! Heard Kevin's band play in K.C. on Sunday. Wasn't sure what to expect, but WOW, He interacted well with the audience and we enjoyed the music very much! Original and entertaining! GO KEVIN! Also, he didn't charge for his autograph...

I saw the Kevin Costner band in Greenville where he played in the BMW Pro-Am charity golf tournament. His band gave a free concert in Greenville that night, and I must say, they were not at all bad. When Costner saw the gorgeous new moon with a brilliant star beside, he stopped the concert for everyone to turn around and look. He then told about how when he was a child, his mother told him that was God's fingernail. It was nice to see a star of his caliber pay tribute to our Heavenly Father and His star.

I went to the Auto Club 500 on February 25, 2007 and saw him perform with his band. I didn't know he had a band before that. I thought he was good and very entertaining. I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised.

I have seen Kevins band and think they are great!
He seems to be having fun, has good original songs and the band is the real thing!
Rock on Kevin!

Dam it. I am going to the auto club 500 and found out her is playing on the main stage. Listening to his stuff, i have to say, "Is this a joke?" He can't play guitar, and he definately can't sing. It's anyone in his camp going to be honest with him and tell him not to embarass himself? I am kind of mad that they don't have a real act for the race. Sammy Hagger is playing the day before. I wish he would play on Sunday.

Is his music overly preachy and boring?? Does he play every song in the same key?? Does he croon whilst brooding?? If so than its exactly like all of his movies since Bull Durham. Somebody tranquilize me if I ever have to sit thru that.

WendyD Thu, Jan 25, 2007 at 07:09 PM EST

I was there! I totally have clips that I forgot about. I'll get them up tonight!

mike Thu, Jan 25, 2007 at 05:56 PM EST

If Costner's band is like acting career, it'll start out great. Then, he will sing a song about wolves and the rest of the set will mostly be unlistenable.

EP Sato Thu, Jan 25, 2007 at 05:51 PM EST

If his band is like his acting, then every song will sound exactly the same and will be about the same theme. I'm just sayin'
