So j/k but anyways, I think this is a bold move for him. I like the films but feel the other young actors have grown more acting wise than him. If he wants to be around for a while I think this is a step in the right direction. But this and Dakota Fanning's movie make me want to seek refuge in an episode of That's So Raven.

Well, as I remember it, the original production was publicised with photos of Peter Firth riding naked on the back of another actor who was wearing a horse's head. So, y'know, it's tradition, OK?

Yeah - I actually emitted a gasped, 'Oh my God!' when I first saw these photos this morning, but once I got over my initial shock and regained consciousness, I was more like, 'Wow! More power too him - here's hoping the intensity of his performance matches these photos - Hooboy!'
I've been aware that Daniel was taking on this demanding, disturbing lead role in 'Equus' since early last year and at the time I first read about it, I was like, 'Ooo, that's a bold step! Hope it works out in his favour!'
These photos only add more credence to his commitment to the darker role and now I suppose the reviews of initial performances will be the ultimate deciding factor as to whether taking on this role in a controversial play like 'Equus' was a truly smart move or a career damager.
Here's hoping it'll turn out to be the former outcome!

My thoughts exactly, Chuck. Yeah, what if it were Emma? With Dan, it's still very shocking; however, the response seems to be more hilarity than anything else. If it were Emma, there'd be scandal. Probably not an enormous one as she'd be doing a serious play instead of posing for a men's magazine; however, there'd still be backlash.

There is a disturbing quality to this...as a female fan of HP, I can enjoy the sexual appeal. Dan's not looking too shabby...but I couldn't say that I'm very attracted, it is too much like looking at my little cousin all grown-up. Looking at Dan has the same appeal for me as looking at a hot chick...I can enjoy it for the aesthetic appeal. But if I were a male, heteosexual HP fan, I can see how these pics would be very weird. So I feel you Slezak. But I'm still going to 2nd Jess and everyone along those lines of thinking...good for Dan to try and build a long term career. What a gutsy move...and he might as well look good doing it.

I would love to see the play, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the squealing in the audience when Daniel disrobes would completely and utterly shatter the experience. Do I think he looks hot in these pics? Hell yeah. But if that's the lone experience you expect/can take away from "Equus," then you shouldn't be permitted to see it.

Yes, nudity is only a "small" part of Equus - but it's in the pivotal, climactic scene in the play. (Stop smirking that I wrote "climactic" while looking at nudie pictures of Harry Potter!!) My point is, the play completely hinges on a disturbed young man who has religious-psycho-sexual issues that involve horses (that's really simplifying things, but how else can you explain it) and these pictures are a beautiful representation of that theme. These type of images would be appropriate for this play whether Daniel Radcliffe was playing Alan or not. Are the producers also using the "Potter nudie pics" to their own advantage? Well, duh. I'm sure they'd like it if people actually, ya know, came to see the show.

OK, now for the emotional reaction - YOWZA!!! They are hot hot hot and yes, I'm old enough to be his...babysitter. So Slezak, why do they make you want to die inside? Can't you appreciate the beauty of these photos? Or does it disturb you that he's 17 and "Harry Potter"?

I appreciate the fact Daniel Radcliffe is branching out and getting ready to shake off his days as Harry Potter (only 2 more movies to make!) and this play certainly seems like the right move to make to do that. However, in my mind, right now, he's still Harry Potter and I just don't want to see Harry naked looking like he's about to have sex. Hot poker. Eyes. You get the picture.

I agree with Jess, Equus is a really difficult play. The nudity is minumal compared to Shakespeares "A Midsummer's Nights Dream" where the Fairies, and Robin Goodfellow were all nude or semi-nude (depending how it is staged). I think he looks fine nude, but I don't think that is what people should be focusing on. Then again it is the old University club senario. How do you get students to join a club? Pizza and beer. In this case, Harry waves his wand.

EQUUS is a notoriously difficult, dangerous play, where the nudity is only a minor part of the show. It's a shame that the PR stunt of Radcliffe's nudity (YES, however yummy it may be) is overshadowing what is a smart young actor challenging himself in a very difficult, wonderful play.
