10832__cheech_l Quick! First one to find a coherent thread between the following three news items wins my undying love and respect. (Not that I couldn't find a thread myself, because, um, it's clear as Victoria Principal's dewy complexion.)

- Cheech Marin (pictured, right, with Jorge Garcia) has been cast as Hurley's dad on Lost (scroll down), which sounds intriguing enough, as long as he's woven in to the story a little more delicately than, oh, Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro.
- Ruben Studdard has explained to US magazine why he decided to give up eating meat, and for some reason, I'm overcome with the urge to order a "vegetarian reuben" for lunch. (I just totally cracked myself up. Sorry.)
- The progressive folks at All My Children are adding a male-to-female transgendered character this week -- yay! -- and DListed makes the astute observation that Jeffrey Carlson, the actor who's portraying Zarf, looks a little like Sandra Bernhard.

Oddball stoner note: Both Cheech Marin and the guy who plays Hurley have previously played pot dealers before. Cheech and Chong sold herbs in "Next Movie" (noted Chong: "We won't go broke with me smoking our stuff. I am my own best customer"), and "Hurley" sold Larry David an ounce of shwag on "Curb your enthusiasm". Cheech was also the record holder for Celeb Jeapardy for ever. I don't know if he still has the title or not, but it speaks against Dr. Sanjay Gupta's assumption that stoners have no short term memory...

Obvious Common Thread- Slow Pop Culture News Day

Lorenzo Mon, Nov 27, 2006 at 03:31 PM EST

Mmm.....let's see. What's the common thread between the three? Oh, I know! THEY ALL SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheech Marin? Really "Lost"? Really? What the F**k are you thinking? You're pissing off your fans to the breaking point. Ruben Studdard has givin up meat? Who wants to bet that he's just gonna get the surgery anyways? We all know that the veggie thing lasted about 5 minutes. He's probably eating Clay Akien as we speak. And even though the "male-to-female" thing is good for the gay community, "All My Children" will always suck!

Let's see... could it be that they are all singers and actors? Ruben has had several albums and acted in a few sitcoms. Cheech has been in numerous movies and TV shows, and was also featured on "Celebrity Duets." And Jefferey is a veteran singer and actor on Broadway, film, and TV.

So does Paddy win the everlasting Slezak love?

Lost is better than ever this season, and with Cheech Marin playing Hurley's dad, it will get even better.

Lost is really getting bad this season. Now, add Cheech to the list of current atrocities.
