The latest in celebrity widgets

Categories: Apropos of Nothing, Web/Tech

As much as it pains me to admit this, I am insanely jealous and admiring of Rolling Stone's Pete Doherty Arrest/Rehab countdown widget, which tracks the cracked-out whereabouts of everyone's favorite former Libertine and Kate Moss stumbling block.

But I can't say I buy into Radar's Fame-O-Meter, a ''Real Time Buzz Index,'' which is currently telling me that I care more about Barbara Walters than I do about Rosie O'Donnell (ooh, Rosie isn't gonna stand for that), or that Jack Black is like 500 times more famous than Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, etc.  Um. Somehow I don't buy it. First of all, the Tenacious D trailer is just not that good. Second of all, Radar folds like a cheap ping-pong table every three months, so I'm not sure their information can be trusted.

Any other widgets you kids would like to see? Grey's Anatomy Brawl-Tracker? Nicole Richie Snack Counter? Number of Celebrity O-Meters O-Meter?

Stephanie- 100% agreed about Ugly Betty.

It's a straight up Telenovela, just done with a decent budget in English and with better scriptwriting. It's pretty funny and a little infectios. I am now dying to get myself a guadalajara poncho.

Oh, and I've got one for popwatch! you could do up a board that lists how many decent zingers frequent participants have come up with (brandon K, Stephanie Travitsky, Tom Brazelton), how many times a commentator made some grandiose point of fact statement that turned out to be totally wrong (I'd be at the top of that chart) and the number of times the writers do their thing. For example, number of times Scott Brown makes fun of himself, # of super duper insightful thoughts that Whitney Pastorek makes all easy but that make us feel stupid for not noticing them, etc.

Watch Ugly Betty. To pay homage to the Spanish Novella, every time Betty comes home to Queens, Telemundo is on with a "slapopera".

I missed them other shows, but am glad to be catching that wave now as this show helps me understand the broad appeal of telenovelas in Latin America. I can't seem to peel myself away from all the face slaps, divorce papers and pies in the face.

Ep, that's what made Dynasty, and Melrose Place phenomenons. It was not about the dialogue, it was about pulling hair, wine splashed in the face, and how many divorce papers can be filed within one single episode. Speaking of divorce, Rob Estes and Josie Bissett are officially splitsville.

Fashion House Smack o-meter.

Is this show anyone else's guilty pleasure? I can't stand to listen to (and always fast forward through) the cheeseball dialogue, but the smack downs, face slaps and food fights (most seem to involve Morgan Fairchild or Bo Derek) make this soooo worth tivo'ing.

So, the time says 6 AM Thurs, but looks like this was posted around 6 PM Wed... you guys might want to check that out.

(oh... and I don't care about stupid 'widgets' and hope you guys aren't considering more for your site or magazine -- they're lame! [with a few exceptions here and there, just not often])

How about the "I can't think of anything else to say meter"?

How many times Paris says "That's Hot!"

Or the "Brit bun o' oven counter". How many times can Brit birth a kid until finally she gives Kev the Popazao papers?
