Snap Judgment: Beyoncé's ''Ring the Alarm''

Aug 9, 2006, 12:57 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: Music

104351__beyonce_l The indispensable beautynthebeat blog has a link to Beyoncé's new single, ''Ring the Alarm,'' and let's just say that, like that damnable first morning sip of Swiss Miss that scalds your tongue and renders your taste buds useless for the whole day, this track is H-O-T. (Yes, readers, so en fuego, in fact, that I've been reduced to overwrought similes -- ones that, no doubt, leave me open to scathing remarks about my taste level in general.) Anyhow, while I won't dispute beautynthebeat's opinion that there's something a tad Kelis-like about Beyoncé's rant, how can anyone deny the sparse urgency of ''Ring the Alarm,'' or the unforeseen sense of fury Ms. Knowles brings to the track? C'mon, it's unlike anything she's released to date. The only thing that could make this better would be a video featuring a gargantuan Beyoncé taking it to the streets, Godzilla-style, to wreak havoc on her do-wrong man and the other woman. Stomp the sh-- outta them, B! Are you with me, PopWatchers?

ya r all hatin 2 da fullest....ya kno damn ryte well dat she worked hard 4 everything she has....She earned it all cuz of her talent....n i luv Rihanna.....she cud dance, she cud sing, and she's madd pretty, but she aint nuttin compared 2 B....yea mayb she is tryna b a lil too gangsta, but so what....u kno dat 1/2 dese rappers say dey gunna do suttin but iv yet 2 c dem do it....so 1nce agen...STOP HATIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feodor Tue, Sep 26, 2006 at 09:06 AM EST

I think that B is one the best singer Iever heard but her new album is totally wack. No music, no class. All latest material is just singing over the sample.
The alarms and shouting over the ring the alarm is so annoing. If she doing one more record like that she won't last. First week by sales shows that she have quite big fan database but so many extected something better then 1st record but this is complete disaster. Album drop in 2 weeks from 3 to 38 place in UK what could I say more ? Would it be multyplatinum- I really doubt. Would people listen it after few weeks in charts - I am not sure. I listen bonus track like Creole, Lost yo mind and something else and it is same bullshit.
I thik that best albums with ms b is written on the walls, because she wasn't write or produce that album and couple of songs like Independent woman and Crazy in love. She want to do more growing material why not collabarate with David Gamson or Brian McKnight.
She said she want to be a long term artist - is it the best way to do that is to do wacko records ?
I buy her album immidiatly and I listen it twice, first - I didn't believe my ears and second just to be sure if I miss something. Now I don't know if I should put it in the garbige or just put it on the shelves between too records of the same value - PCD and Mariah latest albums.

deandra Sun, Sep 10, 2006 at 01:20 PM EST

whack. beyonce is trying to scare yall because she know she can't fight. this song is not about rihanna. i read in a recent star magazine that rihanna beyonce and jay-z had handled on that part in a restaurant. if anyone she trying to scare us off like she can fight. if she really wanted to do somethign to rihanna she would have been talking to rihanna through the hold entire song. instead she wanna ride fake hydrolics thats not there. like she's a gangsta or some thing. truth is any body gangsta or not could scream and holla in a song about anything. any high school drum major can do that same performance on a school football pep rally. or any one who wants ot . the performace is whack and doesn't make anysince. she 's trying to scare everyone off. but she 's not scaring me. i know all those awards she wins are fake and are cheated for and her father pays the awards show to give her the award. it's all fake rihanna is a much better performr now.

Allissa Fri, Sep 1, 2006 at 02:58 PM EST

Even tho I LOVE Beyonce, I have no clue what she is doing with her career at the moment. I don't know maybe she's just trying something new. I thought Deja Vu was pretty good but ring the alarm is pretty bad! Although the new album has just come out, that is not what the media is focused on at the moment. The lyrics to ring the alarm are what have shock most I think. In one of the parts in the song she states 'She's sold half a million - Gold' which directly matches to Rihanna to stay away from Beyonce's man! People, I think we have a celebrity fewd brewing right here!

christy Fri, Sep 1, 2006 at 11:23 AM EST

you guys are the biggest haters that girl danced her behind off get it established!

Marie Sat, Aug 26, 2006 at 10:15 AM EST

It doesn't get any better,Ï luv her songs, new album, all of it. People have something to say because its crazi to see à young beautiful woman continue on her journey of sucess without messin up people are hating really hard, even with deja vu...beautiful,ppl saying something about that because its different but Ï bet its still bumpin in your car....hhhh Λ₦Ð leta not start on ring the alarm because she put à little intensity in her voice that makes its bad,plz......haterz,is the only werd Ï can use.

Kee Thu, Aug 24, 2006 at 01:02 PM EST

Beyonce is really doing her thing. Deja Vu was hot, but Ring the Alarm is hotter!!! I lovvvved Ring the Alarm from day one. She's on fire. For those of you who don't like her new singles, I'm not going to call you haters, I'll just say it's not your cup of tea. But you shouldn't bad mouth the songs like that b/c I'm sure there are some songs or artists you like that other people don't like.

Everyone know B has always done it big and there's no stopping her now. Obviously people love her or she wouldn't be in the spot light. If I was a performer I would be doing the same thing she is doing.

For those that dislike Beyonce or her singles I bet you will be watching the MTV Awards just to see her perform it rather you like it or not.

As for me thats my girl. KEEP DOING IT BIG!!!!

JamaicanNatty Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 12:47 PM EST

I love Beyonce, but seriously what is this crap. If the rumours about the inspiration of RTA are true... why would she now put her business out there when she has kept the rest of her relationship private? But that's beyond the point, didn't her management review this song? Honey this is for a underground mixed tape not for an album! Beyonce, how did you go from inspiring songs like Independent Woman, Survivor and the playful Check on It to this woman scorned I'll burn your house down crap? Don't you make enough $ to buy your own VVS diamonds and chinchilla furs? And please leave the bajan sistren alone. I doubt she would get herself in any public mix-up with that thick lipped camel.

Romise Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 11:46 PM EST

I wasn't to crazy about Deja Vue when I first heard it but it eventually grew on me. Thats how it goes sometimes. However Ring The Alarm is hot like fire. I saw the video and I am like wow!!!. B really did it up big time. I have never seen her with so much profound anger. This girl is truly a musical genius, an originator. This track is so unique and relatable to women I loved it immediately so all the haters just need to bow out and give Beyonce some damn respect.

catherine Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 05:37 PM EST

btw I don't know if it's true, maybe it's just a rumor, but I hear RTA is about Jay-Z and Rihanna...not that it's any of my business, but Rihanna better keep her hands off Beyonce's man. They're the hottest couple out there and I really hope they stay together...

catherine Sun, Aug 20, 2006 at 09:10 PM EST

I like Beyonce and I LOVE Ring the Alarm, its so different from anything she's done before but I like that and it think the song and the video are hot. U don't have to like the song but everyone who is picking on her and hating on her is just jealous. Please, Beyonce-haters, go get a life! Christina's ok but she's not as good as Beyonce. Beyonce's the best!!!

shay brezzy comin soon Sun, Aug 20, 2006 at 06:06 PM EST

beyonce is great she's doin a wonderful job with entertaing her people she is outstanding so all u haters need 2 fall back because she is hott and she kept her word with staying in the game ..... so get it gurl and do u and i will see you soon !!!!!!!!!!

Taran Sat, Aug 19, 2006 at 06:53 PM EST

Beyonce is my favorite artist ever! Deja Vu is the bomb, and so is ring the alarm. Anything done by my girl Beyonce is gone be off the chain of course!

diamonds on my butt Fri, Aug 18, 2006 at 05:06 PM EST

This song is HOT. If you don't like it - you're crazy. Beyonce is stepping up her game like she usually does and being unique. Trust me, in two months this will be at the top of the charts and once they remix itj . . you'll all be on the bandwagon big time. People like me know real talent when we see it. Mark my words, this song is hotter than the hottest track out there right now.

Jyoti Kaija Fri, Aug 18, 2006 at 02:38 PM EST

Jeeze, leave Rhianna outta this. She's not going after Jay-Z.

kitty Fri, Aug 18, 2006 at 09:53 AM EST

Her Last Album was much much much better.

chelseabarbie Thu, Aug 17, 2006 at 02:28 PM EST

i just saw her video it's fire she kilt it go B it your B-day that the best to date get girl "i be dam if i see another chick on his arm " that is so over LMAO

AJ Wed, Aug 16, 2006 at 08:21 PM EST

I think her new material was rushed. I am a fan, but these new singles are not up to par. I think she is starting to become overexposed.
Maybe she should take a break and work on her acting chops.

briana Wed, Aug 16, 2006 at 07:54 PM EST

wut up it's that girl briana from dallas but repin' kilgore anyways i love this song and video Beyonce' is really doin' her thang and showin' all you haters that she is on top of her game like always. Beyonce' is my favorite singer so i'm always down with what eva she do! but on the real i think that this song is about her bein' fead up with "J" messin' round with Rhianna! i hope that "B" and "J" don't break up cause to me they is the hotest couple of all time! well at least until i come out and me and Chris Brown start datin'! lol i'm out that grl Briana AKA Lil Miss Briounce' (Beyonce')

Eugenia Wed, Aug 16, 2006 at 03:58 PM EST

I like the song I think she is trying to tell us something about her big lip a*s man. I like the song I can relate I just dont like the video.

browneyes Wed, Aug 16, 2006 at 11:52 AM EST

Beyonce's Ring the alarm is what a lot of woman are feeling about their relationships and the passion and feeling you hear from her, you know this is personal..I am so certian B'day is going to be a comparable to Mary J blige's my life album...an insight into Bee's life that so many women are going to be able to relate to and feel. Ring the alarm is raw and real...it's relatable. Who would have thought someone as beatiful can have issues with her man...that what the public needs is to see that everything ain't what it seems even for those who seem to have everything...that is why the song is hot and her album is going to be hot..women can relate....Don't hate, give Bee her props for this one.....

bee Wed, Aug 16, 2006 at 03:22 AM EST

What is she doing? the song and video is bad, bad, bad.

fresh18 Wed, Aug 16, 2006 at 01:31 AM EST

man...is something wrong with everybody ears? this song is off da chain..its so un-Beyonce...she so surpasses her usual on this one.....haters go ahead and kill yourself cause B still gonna do her thang ....i can bet the thick chain that Jay-Z got the hottest girl in the game wearing that u gonna buy her new cd B-Day...damn ducks stop QUACKIN

P. Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 02:02 PM EST

Oh, and "Ring The alarm" is a masterpiece. It's flawless. Haters put down the Hater-aid for a minute, and just admit. Listen to everything else out and listen to "Ring The Alarm". Lord Forgive Me....Bottom line anybody who don't like the song is a FOOL.

P. Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 01:55 PM EST

Ya'll Muthaf****s is Stupid. At First it was Latoya, now it's Kelis. All you guys are doing is showing how good Beyonce is. She is so good that you're trying to find little sh** so ya'll can talk about her. Ya'll act like, because Kelis was screaming in one of her songs, nobody else can scream in a song. If Ciara, Alicia, Christina, or anybody else screamed in a song, it wouldn't be a big deal. It wasn't like she was screaming the exact same words, Kelis was screaming.

If that's how ya'll feel about the situation, Then no other female artist should hit a high note in their song, Because beyonce always hits high notes in her songs...........Now see how stupid that would sound if I was serious. But that's how you guys look. A suggestion..... Before you bad mouth Beyonce over Kelis listen to Kelis's song 'Till the Wheels Fall Off".... Her A** ain't bossy on that sh**, She sounds drunk.

HaHa, Christina A., Are ya'll for real. Just cause her song is doing good on TRL, ya'll think ya'll got a right to say she sing better than Beyonce. First of all where is Christina on the Billboard Charts. I don't never hear that sh** on the radio. And Beyonce was #1 on more than just TRL. She was holding it down on Sucker Free for a while. Where was Christina. And Christ. was always getting her a** knocked from the #1 spot because of Beyonce. Oh and live Christina struggles when she sings and she cracks, Do your research. And I don't want to do it but I have too. FERGIE!!!!! This Bi**h look like a Gremlin. She is not sexy, at all. I might be wrong but, Isn't fergie's name the same as the thing who made the Gremlins when it got wet!!! I mean c'mon please..... Just accept it. Beyonce is the best, and there is no one better.

J.D Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 12:09 PM EST

yoo!! stop hatin on "B". YO I LOVED DEJA VU! IT WAS THE SPARKED THAT SET THE HOUSE ON FRIE AND NOW IT'S TIME TO "RING THE ALARM!" YO WHEN I HEARD IT I WAS LIKE LIL JON.."WHAT!" YO B IS GONNA MURDER B@TCHES WITH THIS SONG HEAR...IF THEY SCARED SIT DOWN BUT IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN GIVE "BEYONCE" SO COMP, BY ALL MEAN STAND UP...BUT YOU WILL BOW DOWN TO THE QUEEN!! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!! B......E.....Y.....O.....N.......C.....E!!!!!!

Ricky Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 10:23 AM EST

Haters need to back down from Bee! Ring the Alarm is Beyonce's Best song to date in my personal opinion. All you haters need to stop it! This song is Off the meat rack! I like the beat, the style of the song and that crazy ass scream, Kelis maybe the first to scream on a track, but Beyonce's Rebel Yell is not animated or coached. The song is so Gutta and straight up Hood, it's not like Beyonce thats what makes the song so great! This will soar up the charts once it actually drops, I heard she may not release but it she does'nt her record sales may plummit during the first week, this will set the soundscan on fire, if it is released as the second single the company will be pretty happy on the positive and negative response it will get. I can not wait to see her perform the song on the VMA's on August 31, please real beyonce fans, let's work for our girl, she is doing so well, and DEM HATERS are trying to bring her down, Like they say you can't keep a good Woman down and that's what's up!

Dizzie Sat, Aug 12, 2006 at 09:16 AM EST

U know wat the joke is wid all the haterz, u know u lyk it b-cuz u wuldnt go out ur way jus to try on bring her dwn yes i admit dat deja vu wasnt the bst but she killed it with ring the alrm, n comparing christina, yes the girl can sing but its about the triple threat and dats what beyonce has christina cnnt dance to sve her life or her career, B is guna be hear 4 a lng tym so get used 2 it!!!!!!!!!!! n big up 2 gisele!!!

Phil Fri, Aug 11, 2006 at 08:53 PM EST

Beyonce's "RING THE ALARM" video, directed by Sophie Muller, is set to debut this Tues. on Yahoo Music, the same day as the "DEJA VU" maxi single and vinyl single hit stores. Its also been announced that Beyonce will be performing "RING THE ALARM" on the VMAs on Thurs, August 31st.....

Beauty Fri, Aug 11, 2006 at 02:27 PM EST

Michael this is BEAUTY, creator and owner of Beauty N The Beat. I really wanna thank you for the support you give to my site. This is like the 3rd time if not more that you show me love, and I'm sooo thankful for that. When I saw this post I couldn't believe it. Thank you and keep up the great work!!!

Jenn Fri, Aug 11, 2006 at 01:33 PM EST

Deja Vu was ok nothing special really but Ring The Alarm is some HOT ish. Come on people me and my girls will be killin this at the club, lovin it!

Naomi Fri, Aug 11, 2006 at 01:13 PM EST

Scorching. this is her best cut yet to my ears. she's finally talking about something real, ya know? not all that fantasy pop crap!

PLEASE MAKE THE VIDEO HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ACTUALY SONG, BEYONCE!!! AND NO QUIT EDITS AND ALL THAT MESS. A good detective story with sirens, a cop uniform and a few hot dance steps would be the lick!

'iANA Fri, Aug 11, 2006 at 12:38 AM EST

when i first heard "ring the alarm" i hella thought of kelis's "Caught Out There"... I like the song...

LeTrea Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 10:24 PM EST

Wait, Xtina, or Jazztina, doesn't shake her butt? LMAO!! Good one! I like Christina, but to be honest, I have to strain to remember any of her performances. She's got pipes (LOUD pipes) but not really the "It" factor. I don't find her charismatic at all. I think she knows this too so she tries hard to be edgy and stand out.

and i am sorry but i will co-sign Beyonce handling the Star Spangled Banner better than Christina. Some compare Christina to Whitney, but honey, Whitney never butchered the anthem the way Christina ALWAYS does. Christina may have a strong voice but I prefer Beyonce's southern-fried stylings. Like butter, baby. lol And Beyonce is peerless in the performance area. Let's get real no one her age can hang with her right now.

I didn't like most of Beyonce's songs off her first CD other than Crazy In Love, but I may check out her newer material. I'm starting to feel her more for some reason. Oh, what is the topic? Ring the Alarm. I went on a different site and got a clear copy of the song. It's really different for her...a needed change...I'm so tired of her cooing over some man. She sounds fierce on this one, like she old Bills Bills days!...Sounds like she wants to put a hurtin' on someone lol

Tinah Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 05:13 PM EST

On the Christina/Beyonce argument...let's get one thing clear: Christina can sing typhoons-not circles-around Beyonce with one easy riff. Their is no vocal competition there. Beyonce puts on a good show and shakes her ass like a pro (Shakira and Jlo have taught her well), but there's nothing original or impressive about what she does to me. And About that MTV awards show Christina AND Beypnce's performances were forgotten b/c all anyone really remembers about that year is Britney and Madonna's kiss performance. period. Beyonce did good at the grammy's but her Prince performance was predictable:short, short dress, more booty shakin... nothing new. Her ballad was delivered beautifully, but Christina still sounded better. Beyonce hits one decent note and people swoon whereas Christina blows from the opening to the closing of a song and people take it for granted because they're used to her hitting impossible notes. Lots of people say Xtina is the best singer of the younger generation-nobody says that about Beyonce. I like Beyonce, but I'm not brainwashed or won over by a glamorous image. In the words of her man Jay "she's aight, but she's not ill (or real)."

cj Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 03:08 PM EST

i'm worried

guinevere Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 02:39 PM EST

i know that most of you guys are probably a little too young to understand this phrase, but i think beyonce is almost at her "jump the shark" moment. all i know about the deja vu song is that it's always on my top 20 on 20 channel on xm and it's definitely not one of my top 20s. i hope she doesn't jump the shark because she's a gorgeous girl and i do enjoy some of her music (mostly pre-dc breakup stuff, but still), but in my book, it looks like she's getting there. :( sorry 'yonce.

Phil Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 12:38 PM EST

Miss TLC you've got me snickering over here alluding to those rumors that Beyonce is kinda pressed over Jay spending time "nurturing" young Rihanna's career..hehe

Anyways, "DEJA VU" ain't quite done yet folks, so don't be so quick to be readyto "RING THE ALARM"...the maxi and vinyl singles for "DEJA VU" including the club remixes are set to be released next Tuesday, August 15th....

In other Destiny's Child related news, I was told that the new Kelly Rowland disc was in fact put on hold til next year beacuse Sony executives were afraid to release the project when Letoya was jumping up the R&B charts back in May. (No, I do NOT work for Letoya's record label, Capitol.) They had already released Kelly's frist single, "GOTSTA GO" featuring Da Brat, and even had her begin to do promotional appearances, such as the Mtv Asia's VMA's, & then put the album "on hold til 2007", and yet they rush out Beyonce's "I recorded this new cd in 2 weeks without anyone knowing" disc, "BDAY" cause she was the lead singer in Destiny's Child...

I am by no means a Beyonce hater. I'm just informed, and I'm aware that most fans are not privy to alot of inside info. but should at least TRY & get facts straight before they go praising an artist for visionary accomplishments, when alot of it is just good PR spin. "DEJA VU" was alright, its a hit, whichever way you slice it, but it was by far nowhere near her best work, as its only really been on the charts for almost 2 months. I'm looking forward to the club mixes of "DEJA VU", and for those fans looking for a more R&B leaning track like "ME, MYSELF & I" peep the track "WOMAN LIKE ME" from "BDAY".

Rishi Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 12:22 PM EST

Beyonce has no talent, just good agents

GRACE Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 11:42 AM EST

Sing girl, sing the hell out of that song! LOVE IT!

Miss TLC Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 10:23 AM EST

This is by far one of the WORST songs I've heard EVER. (And I work in the music industry and have had been exposed to hot garbage many-a-times.) Beyonce is clearly on the way to a breakdown and I feel bad for her. Hopefully "Dreamgirls" will save her because this album and the promotion surrounding it is a true disaster.

Is Rihanna getting to someone? ;)

Tauwan Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 03:01 AM EST

I'm gonna go ahead and say it: I absolutely love Deja Vu and unfortunately the adoration that came with a quickness the first time I heard it just ain't happening with this one. But I'll keep givin it a chance til it sticks cause sometimes you just gotta do it.

http://lastnightadjsavemylife.blogspot.com/2006/08/like-bottle-of-fine-wine.html

Cici Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 02:09 AM EST

I could only tolerate 18 seconds of this song. It's a HOT MESS. I must be insane because I do not understand the appeal of Beyonce. She is pretty but she cannot sing.

Ray Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 01:25 AM EST

That was extremely immature Gisele. However, I'm laughing because it was such a dumb thing to say.

So, all people who dislike Beyonce's music.. is a "roach." Not everyone is going to like the same thing. I'll be sure to call you a roach on the music I like and you might dislike. Loser.

jason Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 12:58 AM EST

i love deja vu and i love ring the alarm. maybe i'm weird.

univgurl Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 12:41 AM EST

c'est garbage.

gisele Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 11:13 PM EST

If you hate the song you definitely lack a musical ear. This girl is a genius! she definitely set the bar higher than it was, listen to all the boring songs out there right now none has been able to capture people just by listening to it for the first time. All you haterz know she did it again so don't hate actually I have a new name for all the haterz beyonce fans you guys need to remember this one they are now called ROACHES lol yep roaches and guess what we do to them?? oh yeah SOMEBODY RING THE ALARMMMMMM WE NEED TO KILL 'EM ROACHES!!! hahahahaha I love the way Bee is making y'all scared so much that y'all rushed over here, googled this just to say something negative...lol wow shouldn't you roaches be on some Janet or ciara or something fan board planning on how to try and get them to number 1 or something?? lol the beauty about miss B is that her fans don't need to TRY her music speaks for itself and even you haterz WILL buy and JAMMM to her songs you know it don't lie hahahha somebody RING THE ALARMMMMM!!!!

Tyler Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 11:12 PM EST

All her music sounds the same to me. However, the only different thing this time around is her screaming.

brandon Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 11:10 PM EST

this song is pure fiyahhhhhhh! phew! I can't stop listening to it. it may not be for everybody, but i'm really diggn' the direction this girl is going in.
she's not afraid of taking risks.

TAC Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:57 PM EST

The song is all over the place. It's terrible!

Brea Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:55 PM EST

SORRY, I DIDN'T FINISH MY THOUGHT ON THAT LAST POST LOL

I MEANT TO SAY, I'D PUT RING THE ALARM RIGHT UP THERE WITH CRAZY IN LOVE IN TERMS OF THE RUSH YOU GET...THE URGENCY. THEY ARE OPPOSITE SONGS, AND USE DIFFERENT WAYS TO LIGHT IT UP--CIL USES HORNS, WHILE RTA USES SIRENS, POTENT AND HONEST LYRICS, AND HEARTFELT SINGING--BUT THEY BOTH SATISFY. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF 'YONCE'S BEST. I CAN'T FRONT.

james Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:54 PM EST

"In my opinion, Beyonce's 0 for 2. My ears felt like they were bleeding 30 seconds into it.

I predict she'll have a tough time on radio, given Deja Vu's lackluster performance...the new Radio and Records charts came out today and DV falls from #24 to #35 in its 8th week on CHR/Top 40 (1,055 less spins than last week). I guess it could be worse - Janet and Nelly appear to have fallen out off that chart altogether..."

I decided to quote this, because I agree. What is Beyonce doing?

Brea Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:50 PM EST

THIS IS MY SMACK RIGHT HERE!!! THIS SHOULD'VE BEEN THE FIRST SINGLE. SHE SOLD ME ON THIS ONE. "DEJA VU" SMOLDERED, BUT THIS ONE BURNS.

THIS IS EASILY 'YONCE'S BEST TRACK. I'D PUT IT UP THERE WITH CRAZY IN LOVE IN TERMS OF

AND ANYONE WHO SAID CHRISTINA AGUILERA OUT-PERFORMS BEE IS LOOPY. HAHAHA! CHRISTINA'S PERFORMANCES WERE ALL BUT FORGOTTEN THAT YEAR THAT BEE PERFORMED "CRAZY IN LOVE." AND CHRISTINA KISSED MADONNA DURING ONE OF THE PERFORMANCES. REMEMBER THAT? NO. AT THE GRAMMYS, BEE COMPLETLEY STOLE THE SHOW WITH PRINCE AND THEN WITH "DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE." AND DON'T EVEN COMPARE THEIR VERSIONS OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEMS! BWHAHA. CHRIS IS GOOD, BUT SHE HAS NOTHING ON BEE ON STAGE. NOTHING.

Janet Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:32 PM EST

What is she yelling about this time? ewww, my ears.

Sue Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 10:30 PM EST

This new song is horrible, and "Deja Vu" wasn't good either. I like Beyonce, but I don't smell anything good coming out of the kitchen this time around.

Thad Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 09:25 PM EST

Like nails on a chalkboard. AKKKK! Another screamer in my opinion. That is 2 bady singles in a row. Will Janet Follow?

d Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 09:00 PM EST

It doesn't surprise me to find out that Janet Jackson's crap ass song "call on me" has fallen off the radar. Note to Janet - STOP POSING FOR ALL THOSE MAGAZINES AND START CREATING BETTER MUSIC! I swear, that's all she does; she flies all the way to London to do a photo shoot. Janet, have you heard of doing the photo shoot here and emailing the pictures over the pond?! Spend more time listening to the music you make and judge whether it's going to be liked or hated.

If her next single comes out and it's just as dumb, I don't think her album will do good at all, here's hoping ;)

Fatima Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 08:31 PM EST

Oh my god do people think Deja Vu is performing poorly!?

Thank god I read that latest comment because I must have just missed the other 25!

Oh my god you guys it only made #4! I have to tell you all that!

Honestly people, we get it, you think its failing. Does it deserve to be posted a bagillion times>?

beb Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 07:58 PM EST

In my opinion, Beyonce's 0 for 2.

I guess it could be worse - Janet and Nelly appear to have fallen out off that chart altogether...

What I don't like about Beyonce is that she takes on too much at one time. What happend to the time when a singer use to concentrate fully on their record. Instead, we get Boucey trying to rush this album so that she can have full concentration on Dream Girls. She doesn't even bother promoting this album, I didn't even know up until today that Deja Vu was part of a new album coming out - didn't she just release on like 2 seconds ago, or was that Destiny's CHild. Who knows, it's hard to keep up. Either way, she just churns out songs to be faithful to her contract.
Beyonce, you need to give it a break girl and let some of your otha sista's from DC have a turn, stop hogging all the spot light.
I get the impression Bouncy doesn't want to let a second go by without being noticed for something. She's either releasing a movie, video, clothes line, parfume, single, album and jay-z - enough already!

TuMadre Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 06:44 PM EST

Dayum!!!

I thought she was gonna come back hard after Deja Vu but no dice.

I didn't even like Deja Vu that much and thought maybe her second single might be better but damn, I'm disappointed.

In the imortal words of Whopi Goldberg in Ghost...

Beyonce, you in danger girl!

diddy Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 06:30 PM EST

this guy who writes this column better be getting a big paycheck from the knowles. deja vu is crap, it fell from #4 to #6 this week. fergie went to #1 after 3 weeks. deja vu wont touch #1. after the raving reviews you gave it and this one which is also pure crap. you better be gettig a big pay check dude.

I LUV CICI Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 06:29 PM EST

GARBAGE!

erin Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:45 PM EST

So, I guess every single that wasn't immediately released to download on itunes and didn't rocket to #1 on airplay alone is a failure? Please, people. More artists than just Beyoncé do it!

I loved "Déjà Vu", but I love "Ring the Alarm" even more. It shows a new, different side of Beyoncé and it's fierce and unstoppable. Go head witcha bad self, B!

Tinah Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:12 PM EST

I dislike "deja" and the way it's been spoon-fed and forced down my throat via the radio, BET and MTV. This song however has smash HIT written all over it. If she can bring it home with her performance at the MTV awards, she'll have another Crazy in Love on her hands. However, if Christina performs and outsings her (as she often does), it might put a damper on B's "fire" and silence that alarm. The beat and melody are infectious though...can't see this one floppin. And you know it's good because I wouldn't say so if it wasn't. I am so tired of Beyonce! I wish she would sit those big, vaselined legs down for 2 minutes! Just can't deny that "Ring the Alarm" is irresistable-just gotta give her this one. Dang!

Do it now Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:11 PM EST

Why are people acting like she committed some cardinal sin by releasing her song on itunes and any other outlet that allows you download a song ditially. The music landscape and tracking of hits is changing. Therefore like in the 90's when people bought the single on cassette to boost the number one single. The landscape has changed and now Billboard hot 100 has to factor in digital downloads. There hasnt been a number one single this year that hasnt benefited from thier song being available on digital download. Beyonce chose not to release her song for download she only released to radio. Same for Janet Jackson. Her choice. Had she chose to release the song to radio and digital download at the same time. It would have been number 1 by now.

C Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:09 PM EST

Feh... I didn't care for it. The alarms are what did me in. Once or twice is ok, not all though the song. I hope she does something similar to "Me, Myself, and I" again because that was one of her better songs.

Phil Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:06 PM EST

I'm glad Graeme said it so I didn't have to. "DEJA VU" was stalling on airplay alone, so to get a bump on the Billboard charts Beyonce & her label Sony released the song on iTunes as a pre-order for her entire album "BDAY", so she not only jumped to the #4 slot on the Hot 100, but everyone who wanted the track had to pre-order her entire cd, CONVENIENTLY ON THE SAME EXACT LEYOYA'S FULL LENGTH CD WAS RELEASED...hmmmm....

Anyways, Its ironic that "RING THE ALARM" calls to mind Kelis, since her new cd, "KELIS WAS HERE" also comes out 2 weeks prior to Beyonce's on August 22nd. The song is for sure fire, but I don't think its set to hit radio until the album drops, and she has properly introduced the entire world to it via the MTV VMAs half a week prior on August 31st.

Also for you DreamGirls fans, there is a song on rotation on WKTU called "ONE NIGHT ONLY" that is also Beyonce singing, but Sony sent a promo vinyl out last week, crediting it to B's character, Deena Jones. This song is rumored to NOT be on "BDAY" and will not be released until December on the "DREAMGIRLS" soundtrack, so I can't help scratching my head wondering why a station in NYC is playin it now in August....talk about THINKING AHEAD.......

Ray Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:03 PM EST

"Deja Vu" did bomb. It was at #32 last week on Billboard and it's been on for 7 weeks now. It's at #4, the highest it's ever been, because it was just released on itunes.

.. but yeah, this song stinks.

Samantha Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:38 PM EST

Wow I rarely ever say this because usually you and I don't agree but I completely agree with what you said in this blog! The song is SMOKIN! I can't stop listening to it. I think Miss Knowles got another hit on her hand.

Alicia Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:35 PM EST

I'm just not feelin' this one. "Deja Vu" is okay, but nothing special. This new one is all over the place. The fire alarms would have been okay if they weren't peppered througout the whole damn song. It gets annoying after a while. She needs to leave the angry R&B girl stuff to Kelis (whose "Bossy" is much better than both Beyonce songs).

Do it now Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:32 PM EST

The song is fire. Haha. I think im bout to ring the alarm becuz its such a HOTT SONG!

grace Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:32 PM EST

Deja Vu did not bomb and Ring the Alarm is wonderful mater piece, her singing or vocals are great the music instruments are great. I love this song.

Danny Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:23 PM EST

This song is so amazing it's not even funny. You described it perfectly when you said it's like the hot swiss miss that stings your tongue for the rest of the day. I want to beat a man's ass when I hear this song and I'm a man myself! I love both songs she's put out so far and I can't wait to get the album.

Graeme Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:11 PM EST

"Deja Vu's" #4 position on the Billboard charts in no way reflects how unpopular the song really is. The song flat-out bombed at radio and peaked very early. The song only made it to #4 this week because it was released to iTunes so a decent amount of people downloaded out of curiousity. The song still has no airplay (its BB position before iTunes was #34). It'll fall big-time this week and disappear on the charts in a couple weeks...which is why she is releasing this 2nd TERRIBLE single.

Tyler Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:09 PM EST

Terrible.

Aaron Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:08 PM EST

I think this song if very hot. I especially like that its different from anything that she has ever done, and its different form anything playing on the radio nowadays. And seeing how she will be performing the song at the VMA's, it's not really early for her to be releasing the song. Last point, the song hasn't been officialy released yet anyway.

Tiny Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:07 PM EST

This song is fierce! I'm with you, simply HOT!

Kelly Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:05 PM EST

People De Ja Vu did not bomb. Last week it was number five on the charts which was a jump of over 25 spots from the previous week.

Vin B Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:01 PM EST

No melody, no memorable hook/sample, no typically melliflous, smooth vocals from Miss B. Where's the catchiness of "Crazy in Love"? It's obvious she's trying to be her generations Tina Turner by mixing harsh instrumental (sirens and other alarm sounds that have no flow with the song's attempt at melody; this is not techno, electronic, not even heavy metal) with R&B.
She needs to go back to ballads and gospel-inspired R&B. Her last decent song was "Check on Me."

Fatima Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 03:59 PM EST

B is on fire. and she wants to kill us all. which is in its own way kinda hot.

Noelle Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 03:57 PM EST

This song is wickedly hott....infectious and dangerous all in one...Ring the Alarm is a MONSTER!!!!!!

She is a GENIUS...

Emily Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 03:37 PM EST

This song is pure GARBAGE, just like deja vu

jon Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 03:18 PM EST

Like they taught me in school, I'm not going to say anything at all if I have nothing nice to say. But I can at least say that I have nothing nice to say about "Ring the Alarm" or Beyonce's general trend away from songs that are coherent and have some positive musical qualities in them. Oops, I guess that counts as saying something.

I'll keep the hateration brief. Likes: Beyonce's strength. Dislikes: Everything else. When's "Dreamgirls" coming out again so I can like Beyonce again?

JohnnyinBoston Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 02:53 PM EST

Deja-Vu sounds too much like a deja-vu of Crazy in Love even jayz's rap sounds pretty much the same.) It's a copy of a copy that fades with each printing. If she's releasing this second song so quickly, it's because no one really liked the first one and now, Beyonce won't have none of that especially since LaToya debuted so high on the charts with her solo album and post-Destiny Child's days . Hmm.

Lorenzo Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 02:47 PM EST

She ripping off Kelis and yet, I love this song. Beyonce should thank her beau former rival's girl (speaking of which, how long do you think this Jay-Z and Nas thing is going to last?) for her this song because it's going to be a hit!

Amber Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 02:13 PM EST

This sons sucks. Just like Deja Vu.

Dee Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 02:13 PM EST

All of Bey's songs are busy. I would have thought that most of Bey's fans would like this. Don't know why she is rushing out her 2nd single. Her Deja Vu song is doing well. It's not number one (it's number 4). Did she expect number one on every song.

the sponge Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 01:58 PM EST

Personally, I am feelin' this song. Beyonce's taking some risks, and these news songs are fresh... at least they've got some life to 'em (unlike, say, the offerings from Cherish or Cassie as of late).

That said, I'm not sure these songs can really catch on to the mainstream since they're so take-'em-or-leave-'em. Her loud screaming and the intensity of the tracks may just be too much of a turn off to too many people... I'm hoping "Ring the Alarm" catches on though.

Horrible.
