'Hell's Kitchen': Who's going to win?

Aug 8, 2006, 06:30 PM | by Michael Endelman

Categories: Reality TV

11552__hells_kitchen_l After countless knife cuts, grease fires, and barked cries of “Yes, Chef!", Fox’s sensationalist gastro-reality elimination show Hell’s Kitchen is down to two contestants: abrasive, crazy-eyed Heather, the sous chef from New York, and blubbery, crazy-for-Gordon Virginia (pictured), the salad chef from California. Poor wigga Keith. The egg-shaped, slack-mouthed cook couldn’t keep his attitude in check and Ramsay sent K-Greasy packing. Keith may have had bad leadership skills–and bad posture, and bad grammar, and bad choice of jeans, and bad manners -- but he was entertaining as all hell. When right after being eliminated, Keith mouthed back at Ramsay -- “I think you have the ‘blankity-blank’ hots for Virginia!” -- I thought our Scottish drill sergeant might julienne his scalp with a Wüsthof.

Even though this season started with a surfeit of talent -- remember hopeless marketing exec Gabe or waddling fishmonger Larry? The final two seem to be somewhat capable, though I still think that any of the contestants from Bravo’s Top Chef could cook Heather or Virginia under the butcher’s block. The final pair represent a good balance: Heather clearly has the better cooking mechanics, she’s a bulldog who can survive the pace of a hot kitchen, and could run a kitchen competently. Still, she’s an annoying micromanager and know-it-all who rubs everyone the wrong way. Virginia has a better palate, a more finely tuned sense for flavor combinations and understands what Vegas high-rollers expect for  $30 an entrée. In the speed of a kitchen, she’s still kind of an amateur, and she’s immature, needy, and acts like a besotted schoolgirl in the presence of Mr. Move-Your-Ass. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to eat at a restaurant that had either Heather or Virginia running the joint. If I’m gonna go to a reality-chef bistro, I’m picking this place.

Questions for the finale: Did you think Gordon picked the right chef? Does Gordon have the hots for Virginia? Will Heather and Virginia be able to control the sloppy crew of discarded cast members who are returning next week? And most importantly, who will win?

i think marco need a hair cut xx

Sharon, it's Bonnie against Rock for the final show. The two of them went to Vegas and had to cook something for several prominent chefs from Vegas restaurants. The chefs chose Bonnie's dish slightly over Rock's. Then, Gordon gave each of them a restaurant, which they're supposed to decorate, make out a menu for, and run like their own for the final show.
Bonnie was more decisive and seemed to know exactly what she wanted, while Rock had a harder time putting into words what he wanted. Both contestants are good, but I'm pulling for Rock to win since he has a family.
Besides, I get a feeling that Bonnie gets special treatment when she bats her eyes at Gordon. It always makes him smile!

At first I was so happy for Julia getting a chance to attend culinary school but after her behavior on the last show (8-6-07) I'm sorry she got such a terrific opportunity. I'm scared to death to see the behavior of these women next week and whether of not they will step up to the 'plate' and be an asset to Bonnie or 'burn' her.

Klapaucius Tue, Aug 7, 2007 at 08:50 PM EST

Sharon: The winner has not been announced yet, we will know who wins next week!

sharon Tue, Aug 7, 2007 at 08:45 PM EST

People I missed the last episoid of this season, can someone pleassse tell me who won, was little sweet Bonnie or was it Rock? I'm dying to know!!

Sue Mon, Aug 6, 2007 at 11:54 PM EST

Bonnie is the better Chef. She walked into that Kitchen and called out her menu while Rock couldn't even think what he wanted on the Menu!

i love virginia she is the better and the best and the most good cook in the univer and in the world to i love her im 17 years old

Sally Tue, Jun 5, 2007 at 11:45 AM EST

I am glad Heather won, she really had a gift and a great talent for becoming a chef. She deserved it. Virginia was good too, but maybe not good enough. She was too much of a suck up to me. And I really think Virginia and Gordon had a thing going on between them. It might not have been too obvious, but I am positive that I caught Gordon making googlie eyes at Virginia during the last couple of episodes.

t3hdow Tue, Jan 23, 2007 at 11:30 PM EST

Whoa...I didn't even know a Hell's Kitchen popwatch existed. I was looking for one all summer long. It offered far more entertainment than any of the other awful reality shows last summer.

Personally, while I thought Heather could run a kitchen better than Virginia, her rival has better tastes and a more interesting palette. Still, I thought none of them could run their own restaurant. They're competent chefs, but you need more than that to succeed with your own restaurant. Heather is more appropriate at this moment and deserved to win over her opponent, but Virginia in the long run will exceed her. She simply lacks experience. The fact that Virginia won nearly all the challenges, but almost got eliminated week after week is saying something.

No one else wanted Rachel to win?

Helen Wed, Nov 8, 2006 at 03:58 PM EST

Only straight people would think Heather & Rachel weren't atractted to each other.
They were all over each other. Get a room .Puleeease!!!!

Stephanie Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 03:55 PM EST

I am soooo glad that my girl heather won.. she kicks ass

mira Tue, Aug 15, 2006 at 01:05 AM EST

I only caught tonights episode of Hells Kitchen. I think what it comes down to is: If you had a restaurant, who would you rather have running it? An ass kisser who thinks you're beneath her and lets you know it and whos only motivation is to make herself look good or a team player, who lets you know that your efforts are sincerely appreciated? Every platoon needs a good "leader". She had the motivation to win and a spirit that won't die. Her energy keeps a busy kitchen running smoothly. Go Heather go!!

Kevin Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 10:58 PM EST

Here's some drama. Did anyone else run the scene of Virginia in the boxers getting out of bed? And I thought hair restraints were required

h-dawg Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 10:46 PM EST

HEATHER WON!!!

Maybe she'll hire Virginia

Canoe Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 09:56 PM EST

Heather is a crybaby that doesn't have the common sense of a gnat. Running a good restaurant requires a sense of the uncommon, and most of all a sense of taste;its part art, some presentation and a little good food. But most of all a sense of what's good and above the common. Heather is stupid and very common. She doesn't have the skills to manage a cat in a sandbox. Virginia ,with a little more training, could do great things with a restaurant. She has good taste, a touch of class and she is smart enough to learn. Heather would be good at serving eggs in a greasy diner. She fits right in. Chef Ramsey may be a good cook, but as a judge of people with potential he sucks in a major way. He really should stick to just cooking.

Virginia is soooooo annoying on the show!! And i hope Heather wins!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah Mon, Aug 14, 2006 at 11:26 AM EST

Well, I agree with Keith that chef is acting a little to affectionate for Virginia! I like Heather and i think she's a good leader and cook!...though she doestend to panic soemtimes. And Keith is coming back on the show for the finale to work for heather! How embarassing! Why would you return to the show after what he said! I hope Heather wins!!!!!!!!! i don't like Virginia.

Kelly Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 08:27 PM EST

Virginia is a huge ass-kisser and suck-up. I can't stand her -- but she does have a good palate, apparently. I'm rooting for Heather. I think of the two, she's just got more "intestinal fortitude" than Virginia does. Go Heather Go!

Bill Scurry Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 05:15 PM EST

I have to agree, neither a Virginia- or heather-run restaurant have any appeal. It's irrelevant who wins. Actually, when V sunbathes, we all win.

I think Keith looked like Sloth from "The Goonies."

Lilly White Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 04:40 PM EST

Lola's insult towards us women in the kitchen aside, I don't believe either will be suited for the job being offered as the prize. Heather is strong but doesn't have enough confidence in herself as a chef. As a line cook and boss, yes. As a chef, no. One of the reasons for her lack of palette could be her smoking. Virginia doesn't smoke. Keith does. So did Rachel and a few others. Only when you have a clean or sensitized palette can you being to create by taste alone. Virginia may be a hapless twit who says dang (much to my annoyance) but she could be a top chef based on creative talent and luck alone. Like someone has already pointed out, when you're a chef, you don't do the line cooking. You create, you dictate and you schmooze. A great kitchen staff will help either one of them tremendously. But, I do think Heather will be able to control a kitchen far better than Virginia. That may be her downfall. As for molding, Heather acts like she doesn't have much to learn from any other chef out there, but in fact the opposite is true. A chef continues to learn by inspiration, creation and experimentation. If Heather isn't up to that task, she should just get a job as a short order cook and call it a day.

Sara Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 03:23 PM EST

I don't think Heather and Rachel had anything going on. I mean, this is FOX. FOX! The same people who made "Paradise Hotel". If anything interesting had happened between those girls, you know they'd have shown it.

Garrett liked Heather, he acted like a third grader around her. And when they weren't in the kitchen, she seemed vaguely interested in him, as well.

Veronica Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 03:20 PM EST

I completely agree with "roel". Keith simply gave Gordon a piece of his own medicine. I used to like and respect Chef Gordon, but now that he has shown his weakness for Virginia's "chicken breasts" one too many times, I have to say that if V wins, I WILL NOT be tuning in next season. Also, regarding V's unabashed flirtation with Gordon, did anyone catch the scenes for the upcoming ep? One of the 'reporters' asks Virginia what her "husband thinks of her being on the show?" Yeah, that's right. She's married. Hmmm...But so is Gordon...with, like, 5 children. Maybe it's all 'made for T.V.'. Go, Heather!!! And Keith wherever you are, my man!!

Josie Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 02:38 PM EST

Last Season, was personally better. There was more potential in the bunch. But this season? I'm kind of disgusted. When it comes down to it, Heather SHOULD win, depsite her lack of creativity and palate when it comes to creating dishes, she is much more appropriate in the position of running a kitchen and a business.

Virginia has proved time and time again that she can flirt her way out of elimination. That and her strong palate are what has kept her there. She's not quick to learn the ways of the kitchen, and she proved that Monday night when she couldn't keep control over the kitchen.

If anyone deserved to win, I'd have given it to Keith, he wasn't completely hopeless, and yes he had a terrible attitude but didn't want to degrade people in his kitchen. He pushed out great dishes and had really proved himself...

Virgina will most likely win...

T&A Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 02:00 PM EST

Heather will win. Then, Chef Ramsey will take Virginia away to an Island Holiday Adventure, which they both clearly need (badly).

Dee Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 01:57 PM EST

Keith was a goober and a sexist along with his ex convict friend. He blew it because he couldn't act like he was even awake talking to people. I use to like Heather now I think Chef Ramsey should start over because I don't think any of them are ready for their own kitchen. Heather doesn't have the palate and need to lay off the coffee to calm down. Valerie has a palate but she's awful on the line.

roel Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 01:20 PM EST

give it to the lesbian!

The Donger Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 12:51 PM EST

Heather has been far more consistent throughout the entire season. She may not have Virginia's palate, but I think she could adapt to being a head chef far easier than Bosoms McGrovel. Besides, Virginia has been nominated six -- count 'em six -- times. How the hell can she even be considered as a finalist? K-Grease was seriously robbed. That guy kept pumping out money food. So glad he gave it to Gordon when he was eliminated. That whole scene with him telling off G-Ram was slammin'.

smacky Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 12:48 PM EST

I've thought all along that Heather should win....Keith looked like someone from "Deliverance" and Virginia is a whiny crazy person who slobbers over Gordon. The comment about Heather getting together with Garrett doesn't make sense to me....I think she and Rachel had the hots for each other!

Scott Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 12:48 PM EST

I was watching this one episode the other week of that show Hell's Kitchen, it was awesome, the British guy started yelling at everybody, it was great. It wasn't like the rest of the episodes of that show at all. I'm not sure which one it was though.

Gretchen Weiners Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 12:15 PM EST

I was actually disappointed that Keith was kicked off. Yeah he was unrefined, but the man knew how to run a kitchen. I don't like Heather or Virginia, but think the latter will win. Heather is one good Ramsay hazing incident away from crying and curling up in the fetal position.

lola Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 12:12 PM EST

GR DOES have the blankety-blank hots for Virginia, and she has made ample use of her ample rack during her challenge wins with GR -- but she also has a more refined sense of taste. Still, I'm rooting for Heather. Cooking is a man's world, and she hasn't had to stick her chest out to make it to the final two.

Sara Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 12:12 PM EST

But I love Heather. I hope she and Garrett hook up after the finale. She just gets annoyed when people (VIRGINIA) don't know what they're doing, and start to melt down. Virginia said it best - "If I can't run a veg station, how could I run a whole restaurant?"

That being said, Virginia has come up with some good dishes, and Executive Chefs don't have to cook as much as sous chefs and line cooks. She could possibly get away with it... But she'll need to realize what's feasible and what's not. Remember create-your-own-menu night, with the overly complicated dishes that they had no hope of completing?

Heather's just a stronger leader. Virginia sounds funny trying to lead the kitchen, and she doesn't have the tenacity for it. And she really does hit on Gordon too often.

Amanda Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 11:47 AM EST

I agree about Heather. She always looks clueless and terrified. Also..nice choice with Harold...he was my fave from Top Chef.

Lisa Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 11:46 AM EST

I want Heather to win, but believe Virginia will. Virginia is so smug and annoying, an ass kisser. I believe Heather is more capable and has more potential.

beachpup Wed, Aug 9, 2006 at 11:39 AM EST

I think Virginia will win. She's easily moldable by Ramsay, and she displayed some impressive order giving. Heather always looks like she's going to sh!t her pants.
