Elizabeths Perkins and McGovern -- what year is it?

154350__weeds_blog_l_1 Until the fall TV season begins, the blogfather's viewing has been limited to a little bit of Entourage, a little bit of Runway, and a little bit of weed, er, Weeds. Sunday night, however, I came across an odd little show called Three Moons Over Milford on ABC Family (admittedly not often my network of choice). It's not particularly good, but here's what stood out about it: Elizabeth Freakin' McGovern is the star!

Remember Elizabeth McGovern? She was Kevin Bacon's cutie-pie wife in She's Having a Baby, and for a few years in the late '80s, she snagged some A-list roles (Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America with De Niro and James Woods and Racing With the Moon with Sean Penn), and then pretty much promptly disappeared.

To the blogfather, however, she was best known as "the one who isn't Elizabeth Perkins," who also snagged some A-list roles (About Last Night..., Big, He Said, She Said -- incidentally, with Kevin Bacon) in the late '80s, and then pretty much promptly disappeared. And now she's back, as Mary Louise Parker's acid-tongued sidekick on Weeds (pictured). Coincidence?

What's next? A career resurgence for Ellen Barkin? (Oh, right.)

Which other '80s face deserves a comeback?

I miss Craig Sheffer. I haven't seen him in much since "A River Runs Through It", which is still in my top 50 films, and although I enjoyed him in One Tree Hill, I hate the show itself.

Someone find him a role on LOST! He can play castaways/possible Others with Maureen McGovern!

duy Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 03:32 AM EST

Elisabeth Shue. Kathleen Turner. Jasmine Guy.

Danny Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 01:49 AM EST

Craig Sheffer! (He's a personal friend of mine, so I gotta push him.) Or what about the Coreys?

****** Tue, Aug 22, 2006 at 01:48 AM EST

I would also love to see more of Molly Ringwald.
Good call on Jasmine Guy on a show like Housewives. I might start watching it again.
If some one would give Bronson Pinchot another role where he could ad lib like in BHC, I'd watch.
John Larroquette, other than his show in the early 90's I haven't seen much of him.
Michael Schoeffling a.k.a. Jake Ryan. No explanation needed, I hope.
But my all time 80's fave that I'd like to see again....She-Ra. It was a toss up between her and Jem, but the Princess of Power wins over Synergy.

Mary Stuart Masterson! (Of "Fried Green Tomatoes", "Benny and Joon", and "Some Kind of Wonderful" fame)

Cato Chris Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 03:12 PM EST

What about Matt Frewer? I always liked Max Headroom.

Christopher Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 02:11 PM EST

McGovern was in one of my favorite movies of all time: Ragtime.

Rosie Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 02:05 PM EST

Seriously, Three Moons is cute and weird and quirky... just like Gilmore Girls. It's such a copy! In that case, it will need to start getting really boring soon after initially winning and warming my heart (even though its stars will just get more adorable).

does anyone watch that show with Jamie Gertz??? no? i didnt think so either... so please don't give her any more work.

blackpower Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 01:10 PM EST

Dwayne Wayne from A Different World

GOB Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 12:55 PM EST

I was hoping Justine Bateman's cameo on Arrested Development would lead to more projects.

lizzbert Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 12:51 PM EST

Elisabeth Shue!

Ed Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 12:44 PM EST

I'm waiting for "cha-chee" to make a comeback. I saw him the other day on T.V and as an older man he's kinda sexy.

I do have to agree with EpSato, Johnny Drama will make a huge comeback!

Reuven Malter Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 12:23 PM EST

And Liz McGovern was nominated for an Oscar for Ragtime.

Ep sato Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 12:22 PM EST

Seems like the new trend is that you are hot for a decade, gone for another decade, then come back in some ironic role that reinvigorates your career. Observe:

Travolta. Hot in the late 1970's-EARLY 1980's. Disapears until 1994, then has the role in Pulp Fiction.

Neil Patrick Harris- Cool in the late 80's-1993 or so. All but disapeared until Harold and Kumar go to White Castle in 2004.

What does this mean for other 80's stars? Your decade has arrived! Expect to see a lot more work with Jonnie Drama in the next few months.

GeeMoney Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 11:57 AM EST

Corey Haim! Even though he's completely wacked out on drugs, he sure was hot.

Jamie Gertz is on Still Standing... she's already back.

paige Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 10:07 AM EST

please don't bring back jamie gertz... i really do hate her.

Ron Mwangaguhunga Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 10:03 AM EST

Jamie Gertz might be nice ...

Bruno Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 10:03 AM EST

I would like to see Jasmine Guy again. She could do well on a show like Desperate Housewives.

Ron Mwangaguhunga Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 09:59 AM EST

Irene Cara.

Beetle Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 09:58 AM EST

Great call on Corin Nemec. Loved him in Parker Lewis, and made a point of catching his run on Stargate SG-1 a few years back. He's been in acting purgatory of late in SciFi Channel movies ("Hey! Mansquito!"), but the guy deserves better.

Ep sato Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 09:45 AM EST

Molly Ringwald. I really dug the red hair and felt she got a bad rap once "townies" became her comeback vehicle.

Ed Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 09:16 AM EST

Valerie Cherish, she was all the rage in the late 80's with "I'm It", then she just disappeard.

bg 17 Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 09:13 AM EST

Oops, my bad. I just visited the IMDb to check out Corin Nemec career, and realized that PLCL was a '90's show.

bg 17 Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 09:07 AM EST

Corin Nemec from Parker Lewis Can't Lose. I know he's been working rather steadily since, but he needs a standout role in something notable.

mike Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 08:19 AM EST

Wasn't McGovern in Ordinary People?

bridget Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 08:00 AM EST

I love cheesy TV on ABC Family (Kyle XY and Falcon Beach, anyone), but even I had a hard time sitting through Three Moons over Milford. Milford is like the poor man's Stars Hollow.

Brad in Edmonton Mon, Aug 21, 2006 at 06:53 AM EST

Valerie Cherish.
