Meet 'Lost''s new mystery hunk

17515__rodrigo_santoro_l They didn't want to spoil his role, but Lost producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have revealed to TV Guide that the island's newest mystery man will be Brazilian hottie Rodrigo Santoro. Though he's little-known stateside (works of his that have screened here include the Brazilian art-house hit Behind the Sun and an English-language role in Love, Actually, as the object of Laura Linney's office crush), but he's apparently a star of Cruise/Crowe proportions in Brazil. Aside from giving Josh Holloway a run for his money in the shirtless-dude-on-the-beach sweepstakes, I have no idea what Lindelof and Cuse have in mind for Santoro, but I'm willing to cut them some slack. After all, the last time they gave us a striking-looking international actor as a mystery man, the result was the marvelous Mr. Eko. So let's toast Mr. Santoro's arrival on the island with a caipirinha and a tub of Dharma ranch dressing.

Yea, this man is gorgeous and this pic sucks!!! I am also from Brazil and he's simply the best. You have got to see Behind the Sun to get a sense for his acting chops!! Go Rodrigo! Loved the caipirinha comment at the end of the author's comments!!

I saw this picture and thought...EW!! Then I googled him to get a better look. OH!! ROWR!!

Liza Wed, Jul 26, 2006 at 08:39 PM EST

I heard Kate was getting a new love interest in the first 6 shows of season 3. Which probably means he's an "Other"

Where did this photo come from? This man is gorgeous and was much better looking wearing his sexy, intelligent glasses in Love, Actually. I'm happy I'll get to see him in all his glory on LOST. My eternal gratitude to the casting directors.

This guy looks like Fisher Stevens when he was in Short Circut.

So I don't actually watch "Lost"... But I read the Popwatches on it, and I'm always amazed that these people are stranded in the middle of nowhere, and nobody knows where they are, and they can't get home, but somehow very attractive people just appear out of thin air. It's like they have pretty-person-magic.

Yea, anyone who's seen Love, Actually or the Chanel commercials knows he's much prettier than this picture here.

Can't wait for Lost even more now!

cj Wed, Jul 26, 2006 at 09:54 AM EST

he's really better looking than this picture.

bridget Wed, Jul 26, 2006 at 09:18 AM EST

Hee hee!!

Good one about the steakhouse comparison, daisyj. Or maybe they're at Sardi's!

Wait, is Sardi's a steakhouse? Oh well, it's a fun theory.

tim Wed, Jul 26, 2006 at 08:46 AM EST

he is soooo HOT! Great eye candy

Will Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 09:39 PM EST

Hmm...they hired an actor whose native language is Portugese, the same language spoken by the two men in the ice station in the season 2 finale. It's a safe bet this new character is an islander or an other, but it would still be fun if they connected him to the station techs in some small (or not so small) way.

V.M.L. Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 09:27 PM EST

Oooh, he's sexy!

Simon Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 08:59 PM EST

I loved him in Love Actually (small role but great part). Also, I loved him with Nicole Kidman in the Chanel No. 5 ads that come out a couple of Christmases ago. Sigh - I have not watched Lost before but will start now!!!

Renato Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 07:24 PM EST

I'm actually brazilian, and I gotta say, he's a great actor. Really. Like one of the best of his generation.
I hope "Lost" writters do him justice, but then again there's nothing that makes me believe that they won't.

nikkinad Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 07:18 PM EST

that picture doesn't do him justice....he was drop dead gorgeous in Love, Actually.

tina Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 07:05 PM EST

no way! i loved loved loved him in love, actually. that movie was the best and now i'm so excited for next season's lost!

Kate Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 07:03 PM EST

Oh wow....I thought he looked familiar!

"Life is full of inconveniences and complications," and then you find yourself crashed on some wack-job island.

It'll be interesting to see what the Lost writers have in mind for him. Maybe he's there to make Charlie feel jealous!

Jessica Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 06:51 PM EST

Don't foget his shirtless beach scene in the (otherwise forgettable) Charlie's Angels 2.

daisyj Tue, Jul 25, 2006 at 06:45 PM EST

I'm sure he's really a very attractive man, but in that picture his head looks way out of proportion with his body, like a caricature or something.

Hey, maybe that's the secret- they're all trapped in the pictures on the wall of some old-time steakhouse!

Or not.
