94320__scarlett_l Remember when I was afraid to say certain celebs' names out loud? Well, a new fear has taken hold.

In honor of tonight's 2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee (the championship round airs live on ABC from 8-10 p.m.), I'd like everyone to line up against the wall and nominate the celebrity whose name you find hardest to spell. I'll get the ball rolling with my selection, Scarlett Johansson, whose tricky arrangement of consonants (two Ts! two Ss!) and vowels (sen? son?) sends me scrambling to IMDB to fact-check myself every time. Someday, hopefully, I'll master her thorny moniker, but until then, I'll do whatever is necessary to spare you from encountering the dreaded ScarJo abbreviation on the pages of PopWatch.

Now it's your turn: Ladies and gentlemen, submit your nominees in the comments section below!

I miss the days of Hollywood moguls changing everyone's names...sigh...Cary Grant...John Wayne...Joan Crawford...Judy Garland: so much easier than Archibald Leach, Marion Michael Morrison, Lucille le Seuer, and Frances Gumm....

Leslie Fri, Jun 2, 2006 at 08:38 AM EST

Definitely Mr. Eko (or "Triple A" as I like to call him) and M. Night. But what about the "trick" names like Cate Blanchett??

ndmovies Fri, Jun 2, 2006 at 12:22 AM EST

Liev Schreiber
Always ties my fingers in knots typing it. Never looks correct.

Mak Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:15 PM EST

The ones that I have a hard time spelling that I have actually attempted to spell in the past are Matthew McConaughey and Gyllenhaal. I'm not even gonna try to spell Adewale's (Mr. Eko) name.

bad spellar Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:03 PM EST

Alannis Morrisette... Yeah, I probably spelled it wrong.

Martin Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 08:17 PM EST

This is kind of lame-o, but the Courts (Cox-Arquette, Love, et al.) always get me: Is it Courteney or Courtney? And what last name follows which?

Kate Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 07:16 PM EST

What David said! I love the guy, but he'll just always be "Mr. Eko from Lost" as I can neither pronounce nor spell his name confidently! I don't know how to say Famke as in Famke Jannsen either.

Selina Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 04:52 PM EST

Um, yes...definately Mr. Ecko. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje

Ceballos Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 02:54 PM EST

Aish....Rai (of Bride and Prejudice) That attempt was pathetic, i know.

dmac Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 01:40 PM EST

Um, This Name Always Gets Me.. The Chic From BadBoys I, and Jurrasic Park.

T-E-A L-E-O-N-I

Howard Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 01:28 PM EST

Zeljko Ivanek, and Melina Kanakeredes. Seems like she's not the only Greek given us fits, though, is she?

BTW, It's Katherine "Heigl" - no second 'e'.

JC Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 01:17 PM EST

Famke Janssen... I usually just refer to her as Jean Gray or Phoenix from X-Men. I don't think I'll ever get her name right.

Amazing Larry Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 01:15 PM EST

O-T-M-S-H-A-N-K! Tara, you rock! He's a huge star in India.

RaLoren Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 01:01 PM EST

Mahershalalhashbaz Ali from The 4400... I get lost everytime I try.

Crystal Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 01:00 PM EST

Gyllehaal and Saarsgard.....and that guy from Lost who plays Mr. Eko and that's right, I'm not even attempting it.

Carlos Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 12:49 PM EST

Even though he's not exactly A-list (although he should be), I recommend comedian Zach Galifianakis (he's the bearded dude in the Comedians Of Comedy who was also on Out Cold and he's gonna be on that new Comedy Central show 'Dog Bites Man').

Debra Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 12:47 PM EST

Prince, who became a symbol for awhile - where is that symbol on my keyboard?

djm Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 12:28 PM EST

I don't find myself spelling the names of celebrities very often - my current job is pretty much free of any fun. However I do find myself responding to Michael Slezak every so often and damned if I don't scroll up to the article EVERY time to make sure I am spelling his name right. Other than that, there are some great ones in other people comments.

Ragna Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 12:20 PM EST

Carmine Giovinazzo (CSI: NY, for those who don't know who he is). The sad fact is that I'm not the one who needs to go look it up anymore but most of my friends who are fans do.

B-r-a-d P-i-t-t.

Terribly difficult to remember, I find. ;)

Darby Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:44 AM EST

Adewale A-A is the toughest one! I've chosen to give up trying to spell it or SAY it and have decided to forever call him Adebisi!

Bill Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:20 AM EST

Rebecca Romijn gets my vote.

Tasia Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:19 AM EST

Mariska Hargitay... wait... actually it sounds just like its spelled! Who knew!

Joe C Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:15 AM EST

No celebrity name, Michael; I'm just happy to see that you're coping well in the first few weeks of post AI, 2006. Soul PatroL! oops.....

tara Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:13 AM EST

O-T-M S-H-A-N-K

Anyone get that? HAHAHAHA!! :)

Jakeem Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 11:09 AM EST

He's a sports celebrity, of course, but I still have nightmares trying to spell the name of Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski!

pitchmeister Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:57 AM EST

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje all the way or how about Chazz Palminteri or even one as easy as rai phines (Ralph Fiennes)

sal Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:45 AM EST

M. Night Shamalamadingdong

brandonk Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:37 AM EST

Matthew McConnaughaey...it's hopeless. I can't remember which letters are doubled in the Gyllennhaall siblings' name, either.

KBizzle Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:32 AM EST

I'm really upset other people are calling her ScarJo - I was certain I made it up!

Katharine Heigel...is that even right?

Howard Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:29 AM EST

Thirding David and Finn. Second place goes to Shohreh, 'cause at least the last name is like it sounds.

Ioan Gruffudd - I have a difficult time spelling and saying it correctly.

Christina Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:27 AM EST

MeShell Ndegocello

But really, who cares if you have nothing better to offer than your name... :-)

Amber Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:12 AM EST

Mary Lynne Rajskub (rice-cub)-Chloe from 24. Maybe that one is just hard to pronounce.

Larry Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:09 AM EST

Writing Djimon Hounsou's name always messes me up, although the ones everyone else has said are really tough.

Adam Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:04 AM EST

We are liveblogging the whole thing with Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes at http://throwingthings.blogspot.com. Join us.

For this, I'll nominate the deceptively difficult Meredith Vieira.

Melanie Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 10:00 AM EST

You can't bear Agbaje, but Stellan Skaarsgaard is pretty tough too.

I'm seconoding David. It doesn't get much more difficult than that.

Let's just cut the bullcaca and say what we're all thinking: A-d-e-w-a-l-e A-k-i-n-n-u-o-y-e A-g-b-a-j-e

Melanie Thu, Jun 1, 2006 at 09:14 AM EST

Matthew McConaughey... I can never remember how to spell that last name.
