'Desperate Housewives': Kyle MacLachlan joins the cast

17227__kyle_lWhat's Kyle MacLachlan doing starring in a guest arc next month on Desperate Housewives, playing a dentist who's a love interest for Susan (Teri Hatcher)? Sure, as an exposé of the dirty secrets behind suburbia's manicured lawns, Housewives owes a debt to Blue Velvet, but if you're going to hire a freaky alumnus of that movie, isn't Dennis Hopper the obvious choice?

But the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I mean, after that traumatic swimming pool sex scene in Showgirls and his role as Charlotte's libido-free husband on Sex and the City, MacLachlan can handle whatever sexual kink or dysfunction Marc Cherry saddles him with. After riding giant sandworms in Dune, handling klutzy trainwreck Susan should be a breeze. Also, MacLachlan was once attached to the role of George Reeves in a biopic of the 1950s TV Superman, so why not pair him with the 1990s TV Lois? Finally, look at the photo in TV Guide's MacLachlan story, and you'll see that the actor is still rockin' the McVinci, so he's the ideal appetizer for Patrick Dempsey an hour later on Grey's Anatomy.

I am sorry to learn INJUSTICE won't be back on! What a shame! Does anyone know the name of the song from the episode where a woman is set free and there is a beautiful song she left the prison to with the words "hit the ground running"? Anyone know the name of it? I checked the obvious,(hit the ground running) and couldn't find it. Please let me know

What happened to Injustice? I hope Kyle MacLachlan appearance on DW isn't a signal that the show has been canceled. It's original, great cast, good stories. The reviews I've seen have been pretty decent.

Sob! Sob! Why Tom Cruise when I wanted Kyle last night on InJustice. Pass the Kleenex! Is it true that ABC may not pick up the show? No, leave it as a Friday night feel-good hour. Carolyn in Olympia

As for Kyle and IN JUSTICE, I saw him on some program Friday night -- IJ filmed their 12 scheduled shows and now they're waiting to see if ABC picks it up as a regular feature. Let's hope so. I love the show and watching Kyle is just a delight.

Meanwhile, let's enjoy Kyle on DH. I really hope IN JUSTICE gets picked up. Great show and a different slant from a lot of others.

Hope In Justice has not be cancelled. It's a good show.

Why, oh WHY does Kyle have to be a dentist, especially after the mad pharmacist. Couldn't he just be a together business man or someone who could straighten out poor Bree. She CLEARLY needs a strong man in her life, someone who cares for her, beyond the bodice ripping in the next episode! Although the dude is sorta hippy hot!

Seriously, I haven't watched last night's epi yet so I don't know if Dr. Ron is out of the picture, but ANOTHER love interest for Susan? This is getting kind of ridiculous.

I don't think InJustice is dead--is it?
I'm hoping that McLachlan just taped DH after finishing InJustice, until ABC announces what it is picking up for the fall....

EW--can you shed light on the future of InJustice?
LOVE that show!

Kyle will be good on DH, but I really like him on In Justice. Why do they give up on shows so quickly?

Angela Sat, Mar 25, 2006 at 08:56 AM EST

Great idea --Maybe he can breathe some fun and interest back into this show!

Matt Fri, Mar 24, 2006 at 10:36 PM EST

Seriously, this show ran smoothly when it was just the original cast. They don't need to keep adding more people. The opening credits of the cast's name is gonna look more like a list of all memebers of the SAG.

but..."InJustice" is so much better...

Thad Fri, Mar 24, 2006 at 09:22 PM EST

Susan, ANOTHER love intrest??? Why oh why? an you say jump the shark already, and its only season 2.

So, is "In Justice" headed for the recycle bin, or will MacLachlan be pulling double duty?
