Why NBC won't cancel 'Joey'

Nov 9, 2005, 06:22 PM | by Michael Slezak

Categories: Television

18654__joey_lTo paraphrase an old Concrete Blonde song, ''Joey, if you're hurtin', so is... NBC.'' So how come, even though ratings for the Friends spinoff are down 42 percent from its less-than-electrifying freshman year, NBC hasn't pulled the plug? Well, as Lynette Rice reports in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly (on newsstands Friday), ''it's cheaper for the network to keep the series on the air.''

How so? According to Rice's story, series star Matt LeBlanc collects his approximate $700,000 per episode paycheck ''no matter what.'' Even worse, NBC would have to pay ''stiff penalties'' to Joey producer Warner Bros. in the event of an early cancellation. Ouch!

Rice, however, suggests a lemons-to-lemonade approach: Create a comedy block of My Name Is Earl, Joey, Will & Grace, and Scrubs on Thursdays. Heck, as NBC proved years ago with Jesse, ''must-see'' can be a pretty loose adjective on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. -- as long as there's actual laughs to be found at 8 and 9.

How would you fix NBC's Joey problem?

i miss joey. it was funny and the show had a un fufille ending. it was awesome

irwan Thu, Sep 6, 2007 at 01:37 AM EST

I've just started seeing Joey, its hilarious, although Friends or will & Grace was more established and funny, but Joey is a good show which can mature into a great comedy, give back Joey to the people of the world

Cong Nguyen Thu, Jul 12, 2007 at 10:54 PM EST

This is how my day start out. I wake up and go to class from 8am to 1pm and I put roughly 10 hours in a day worth of studying just to come home to watch Joey on NBC. I deep-down heart broken, that saying this the only show that keeps me going day after day, without losting my mind. The first time i heard that joey was canceled, it made me feel the pain, the pain in your throat that swells when you can't get what you want type of pain, and the pain to see another great show go by. I'd shed in tears that FRIENDS was over, all the time i spent watching and to the greatest TV show every made to see it end. Its hard enough to see FRIENDS go, just amagine what i go through with JOEY. It is within time the show finds itself and discover itself and the potential and the momentum. Risk it like you do when you play a serious game of texas hold'em, all-in and wish for the best. I am making a pledge now as of july 13 of 2007, I will never touch a TV agian until Joey is back on NBC.

shan Wed, Jan 10, 2007 at 09:49 AM EST

I dont want them to cance Joey either it was funny. I also want some guest appearences from the Freinds cast to see what happened to them!

alex Wed, Jan 3, 2007 at 07:55 PM EST

Bring Back Joey!!!!

Joey was hilarious!
It was so much better then Freinds where all you would hear was a sarcasm based joke every 40 seconds. After 10 years it started to get REALLY annoying.
Joey had all the strenghts of Friends included with all the faults taken out.

I think Joey should be brought back, it was the only decent thing on nbc, now we're stuck with Earl!
oh yeah,...how great! there, a sarcasm joke..how hilarious...

(excuse bad spelling)

Kendra Sun, Sep 24, 2006 at 02:27 PM EST

I loved Joey! One of the last aired episodes was hysterical! The one where he and his new sidekick (the African American actor, sorry, don't remember his name) went to Mexico and ended up getting married. LOL! I laughed soooo hard! Friends wasn't an instant hit either, I think Joey should have been given more of a chance! LOVED THE SHOW!!! BRING IT BACK!!!!

S.G. Thu, Aug 17, 2006 at 07:09 AM EST

Joey is or was your best Prime time Show.
Why I can't see it?
Cheers

sam Thu, Aug 10, 2006 at 02:40 PM EST

I like to say "I TOLD YOU SO!" but I won't do that because I'm a classy guy. I called in the after watching the third episode and realized where this show was headed.,,,Cancelation! The first episode was very funny but after that I realized the show started to fizzle and it seemed so like Joey lost that natural funniness that made him so lovable in the Friends sitcom. Joey seemed acting to be funny rather than just naturally funny. I don't think it's he's fault entirely. I even called the NBC station and complained that they need to get rid of some of the cast members because Joey is not funny enough by himself to carry the show when his cast members are ruining it for him as well. I don't recall the names but this is virtually what I told the NBC when I called: The sister of Joey was not funny at all! She's not a natural comedian actress. She infact has a mean face if you look at her. She's probably good with drama acting or others but not comedy. Then you the "kid", so they tried to protray him as (ridiculous), the nephew of Joey that is. He's not funny at all! He's character doesn't fit the role of Joey and the fact that he moved in with him was even dumber and his mother the sister of Joey always hanging out in their apartment wasn't convicing at all! Now you have the most un-funniest of all! The blonde neighbor of Joey. She suppose to be a lawyer but gradually through out several episodes she started to act a like a bimbo with no brains. It's not so much of that but she doesn't have that funny/comedian face either! You see the fact that Friends were so successful was that Chadler, Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe and Monica (from the funniest to the least, respectively) all had some natural comedian characters about them and they worked well together. With Joey you don't have those characters other than the female agent for Joey. So my conclusion was that they needed to replace all the other casts, except for Joey and his agent. But did they listen to me? Need I say more. Thanks for reading. (please excuse my spelling and grammer, I didn't have time to edit)

brett Fri, Aug 4, 2006 at 06:24 AM EST

joey is one of the greatest show ever is my perspective!! please replace a boring show on nbc to put back joey!

leetmeat Mon, Jul 3, 2006 at 12:02 AM EST

I think the office is funny and has earned a spot on NBC. I also think joey is funny. But NBC approached a Friends spinoff in the wrong way I think. They should try to keep the same kind of formula. Keep all of the main characters adults, kids on most sitcoms are usually unbelievable(genius kid always smarter then the parents type of thing). Get better writing. NBC already has a large chunk of the former Friends audience watching Joey, they just need to reel in other people by making the show believable. Don't overhype it. They made a huge mistake by overhyping Joey and putting it on the season just after Friends ended. They should of waited another year to build anticipation and left the commercials and hyped reviews to a minimum. Lots of people expected this show to be Friends II from what they hyped it as and they were dissappointed to find out "hey this is a different show!" Have cameos. Bring in some of the old Friends co-stars. Maybe have Joey keeping an E-mail or IM corrispondence with his old "friends." Do something to recapture some of those old working partnerships. Maybe bring in some of the lesser well-known people from friends like gunther or phobe's sister(it is lisa kudrow, i know), do something unexpected. They should try to go where Friends could not, explore the lives of some of the characters that people kindof wanted to know more about or see more of. Make the show it's own. The writers need to recapture some of the Friends aspects with cameos and the like, but they also need to give people something different. Joey needs to be it's own show. It cannot just live off of the loyal former Friends views. It needs to pull in a new audience of viewers. The former Friends viewers can only carry the show so far. In the end it does come down to ratings and Joey was planned and put forward in a way that it just could not deliver the incredible results that execs wanted it to. They need to rethink the show, and then relaunch it for another shot. I think that NBC will infact give Joey another chance on the air with at least another season. It's up to the writers to pull through though. And us to watch of course.

we want joey!!!! we want joey!!! we want..

Phil Fri, Jun 2, 2006 at 12:37 AM EST

Joey is a truly amazing show!! and it is so much better than friends. Joey is a light which he lights up in all of us whenever we see him. I think the Idea that Joey has been pulled is just, well, WRONG. I hope WB take the show to some other network because this show has the potential to evolve into something BIG and long lasting.

6omba7la Mon, May 29, 2006 at 07:45 PM EST

PLEASE LEAVE JOEY ON THE AIR , IN KUWAIT WE ALL LOVE THAT SHOW, I ONLY WATCH FRIENDZ PUT SFTER IT STOPPED I STRATED WATCHIN JOEY I LOVE THE SHOW SOOOOO MUCH PLESE PUT IT BACK ON THE AIR

rightresellebooks Thu, Apr 27, 2006 at 05:34 PM EST

I like Joey! Some episodes were not as funny as some were, but show me a comedy that all are. I think the time slot was wrong to begin with. Joey where are you? You were supposed to be back new after the Olympics!

HoSSaM_NewmaN Thu, Apr 20, 2006 at 09:40 PM EST

Don't know what they Should Do ! I Watch Joey Through the Internet Cuz I'm in Egypt and All the Fans here hated NBC 4 that !

But we fan of Joey Die and NBC the Killer

Cecilia A. Thu, Apr 20, 2006 at 05:31 PM EST

Please do not cancel!! I think even though Joey is different, for a lot of us it fills the Friends void!! I am planning on buying Joey's complete first season (as i have all the friends seasons) in May when it comes out on DVD. Please consider how many sitcoms are out there that are bad and think about how well Joey is compared to them!!!

Faisal Israr Thu, Apr 13, 2006 at 12:48 AM EST

It would not be a good idea to cancel Joey. Thousands of us here in Dubai simply love the show. I am paying a lot of money to subscribe to Orbit just because of Joey, this is the only comedy I watch. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE SHOW....Rgds....Faisal Israr

JJ Wed, Apr 12, 2006 at 11:54 PM EST

Don't cancel Joey My daughter and I love it. Having some of the Friends drop in would be great like a mini reunion and Joey and Alex actually getting together would probably not hurt either.

Yusra Fri, Apr 7, 2006 at 03:08 AM EST

I love joey, please don'r cancel the show. it's funny, his character is graet ... the whole show is funny and it should go on. we must not keep comparing it to "friends" . In JOEY, Matt Leblanc is alone and he succeeds in cracking us up......... I LOVE JOEY

Kim Thu, Apr 6, 2006 at 08:40 PM EST

DON'T CANCEL JOEY!!! I love Joey. It seems that there are so few sitcoms left. There are plenty of loyal Friends viewers who watch this show. A guest appearance from one of the Friends' gang would help boost ratings every now and then. It seems like NBC was trying to kill it by moving it to Tuesday without any announcement and putting it up against American Idol. Was this deliberate?

Nikki Fri, Mar 31, 2006 at 11:42 AM EST

Keep Joey on the air. I love it! There are plenty of people who love it too.

If they want some old friends watchers back they need to start have guest appearances. I'll watch no matter what, but for other not as loyal Friends fans they need something to reconnect "Joey" with "Friends."

Sandra Thu, Mar 23, 2006 at 11:28 PM EST

I watched Joey the first season, even though I did not find it even remotely funny as its predecessor show. But I stuck around out of loyalty. But it has gotten so bad that it hurts to watch. I have given up on Joey.

Dan Angelus Thu, Mar 16, 2006 at 05:49 PM EST

I love Joey! I do wish that they would perhaps make an episode with Matthew Perry guest starring or something.. Joey and Chandler together.. anyway I think it would be an extremely bad idea to cancel Joey, perhaps placing it between two well liked TV shows would help get more people interested, but certainly dont cancel it!!

deedee Wed, Mar 15, 2006 at 03:31 AM EST

I think Joey is funny, specially his agent. She doesn't even have to say anything. The problem is they picked a bad timeslot for a newcomer. Trying to compete with an established show like Survivor is a deathwish. Joey was goofy in Friends but it's Chandler Bing who was the funny guy. And he still has to proved himself. So I think their timeslot choice hurt the show. I'd watch Joey but that or Survivor? It's a nobrainer.

Cory Tue, Mar 14, 2006 at 09:22 AM EST

Joey is my favorite sitcom. It cracks me up. I really like the characters, the storyline, the humor. It would be a mistake for NBC to pull the plug. There's so much crap on TV, I'm surprised more people haven't recognized this show for its quality.

Cindy Willis Wed, Mar 8, 2006 at 09:46 AM EST

I love Joey! I want it to continue since its the only sitcom that I enjoy watching. Believe me, I am a sitcom fan, that's all I like to watch. As far as I'm concerned, its my favorite!

steve Wed, Mar 8, 2006 at 08:26 AM EST

Just caught the show last night after it's long fall break. I think it's a great show and really hope they keep it around.

Steve Tue, Feb 14, 2006 at 12:17 PM EST

We love Joey - one of the few FUN shows, period. I want to bitch-slap the idiots who claim it sux while praising this "Earl" fodder. Yeah - it aint perfect, but it's just starting to spread it's wings (Joey). We laugh our butts off in every scene - his agent (what a great comedic actress!) - yes, the writers have made mistakes (the new neighbor; Joey's too-rapid rise-to-fame) perhaps it was Matt - but all-in-all, we love this show. To a decent writer, Joey is a gift from God (think about it folks) - NBC: STICK WITH IT. More and more Friends fans will tune in - as they see what other crap is on to replace their favorite... stick with it and you'll have a new "Friends" in a couple years, called "Joey". - Just a fun sitcom, something we need more of, not less! Coming from a professional with a Masters in engineering by the way (not in lit. obviously) - wife and I love Joey - and hope LeBlanc fights for it. Hell, if NBC don't want it - let UPN or WB pick it up. But, NBC - let those guys dish out the OC-ish crap and stick with Joey - it could easily go the distance if you stick with it and pay for the good writers.

Delilah Schafer Thu, Feb 2, 2006 at 11:10 PM EST

I do agree that it would be fun for a few of the other "Friends" cast to make an appearance once in a while, or to at least make references to them. As for bringing all of them back for a few more seasons, most of the actors and actresses made it clear that as much as they loved the series, they are ready to do new things. I watch Joey whenever it is on, more out of my support for Matt LeBlanc than anything else. Joey was a good character on friends where he wasn't the main focus, but on his own he seems to shallow and the jokes to predictable. Television is supposed to be an escape from the work of the day, not a reminder of the flaws we find in the people around us: Overly-flaunty Gina, stereotypical "genius" son etc...

Jeff Mon, Jan 30, 2006 at 01:03 PM EST

I think the writers, producers and NBC dropped the ball with "Joey". Joey's character is fantastic, this show could have been great...Instead of creating a family element with the Sister and Nephew..they could have just brought Joey to L.A. and recreated a new group of "Friends" for Joey to play off of. Having any of the "Friends" cast make an appearance is a no brainer!! Again NBC, Producers and writers dropping the ball big time. Make it happen NBC. The Office and Earl please!! Those shows are not Thursday night worthy at all!! There is a reason your network sucks right now you need to fire all the decision makers for this network. I think a great Friends spinoff would be "The Bings" Monica and Chandler in the suburbs!!! I think you should just offer the Friends cast a ton of money to do two or three more seasons. It's obvious your glory days on Thursday nights is OVER...Wake up NBC!!!

Jamie Fri, Jan 27, 2006 at 10:19 PM EST

Joey is good, Everybody Loves Chris it terrible. I like a nice, easy-going, funny show. I love how genuinely good his character is, and he is just the right amount of stupid to make him lovable. Until some executive sees the light and finds a slot for Joey, Scrubs will be the only funny show on television.

HowYouDoin Thu, Jan 26, 2006 at 04:00 PM EST

When did Joey stop asking..."How You Doin'?" If they want the show to succeed, they need to let Joey be Joey. And why hasn't he so much as picked up the phone to call Ross or Chandler? If they want all of the old Friends fans to enjoy the show, they need to incorporate more things frome the old show. Like, what happened to that big white dog that Joey had? You don't just leave stuff like that behind. Make this Joey feel like the old Joey!

Joey Thu, Jan 26, 2006 at 03:43 PM EST

Why must they always mess with a good thing? Sure, Joey will never be a good as Friends, but it's still a good show, with believable characters in believable situations-unlike My Name is Earl and the Office. What the heck?! Who watches that? That crap should not be in a Thursday 'MUST SEE' line-up. Put Joey back where he belongs and put those losers somewhere else.
I also agree that occasionally having an old 'FRIEND' stop by once in a while would definately help boost the ratings. There are a ton of Friends fans out there who would love to tune-in to see the reunion of Joey and his Friend.

jmt Sun, Jan 22, 2006 at 11:38 PM EST

OK! I'm a Joey addict, and I don't mind admitting it! While I didn't expect any spin-off or new show to top Friends, I found myself looking forward to Thursday nights again because of Joey. I wasn't sure if the Joey that we fell in love with on Friends would still be the same on the spin-off, but Matt LeBlanc did a marvelous job bringing Joey back into our living rooms! While the first few episodes seemed a little weak, the series eventually became one of the funniest sitcoms in a T.V. lineup that is all too loaded with "reality" shows. Yes, Joey was a simple and silly show that may not have measured up to some people's idea of a true "classic," but Joey succeeded in making me smile, laugh, and escape from "reality" for a while. I hope that NBC gives Joey back to us; I need my Joey fix!

Melisa & Ulysses R Sun, Jan 22, 2006 at 08:19 PM EST

Joey is the funniest show around. We would suggest keeping it with the Thursday lineup, it's definitely still worth staying with Must-See. Bring JOEY Back!

DonaldaG Sun, Jan 22, 2006 at 11:56 AM EST

I don't know WTF with the Joey show. I really like his character, but they messed up with the rest of the cast. The only funny ones are his agent and the neighbor, Alex. Joey does need people to play off of. He's a foil, they should allow him to foil someone. Also, he's from a big Italian family, it would have been nice to meet some of these people to help develop his character more. And someone mentioned the friends. He should definitely still be in contact with them even if only by phone or getting letters or something. It would even be funny if the minor characters from friends stopped by like Gunther or Janice or Rachel's shallow baby sister. I think the show isn't working because they aren't giving Joey enough depth. A little more depth and some conflict of some sort either with himself (maybe he's not really as confident as he appears because he'll always be that scrawny little momma's boy he was as a boy?) or someone else. This would give the writers more comedy to play off of besides what we usually expect of Joey.

private Sat, Jan 21, 2006 at 01:02 PM EST

You people are insane. Joey is not a good show but then you all are probably the ones watching that dumb ass show my name is earl. What the hell is wrong with the comedies of today? The solution to nbc's Joey problem is exactly what there doing now. Hopefully it will stay gone! Now they should do that to the rest of there thursday lineup.

whatever Sat, Jan 21, 2006 at 07:59 AM EST

Bring Joey back you NBC idiots.
It's a great show and it deserves at least two more seasons.

Dana Sat, Jan 21, 2006 at 12:51 AM EST

I think the whole Joey show was great. And what I really can't beleive is that they took it off without a final goodbye for those of us that love it so much. I miss it and hope there may still be a slight possibility of its return. I think they should give it at least one more season maybe two.

Barbara Fri, Jan 20, 2006 at 11:36 AM EST

Will NBC get to see these comments? If not such a waste of time and effort. I hate the new Thursday night line-up. Will & Grace OK, the rest utter junk. BRING JOEY BACK. Who makes these decisions? He/she should be fired! Finally Joey's sister was of some interest. Joey was just coming into his own. You take this off and leave the rest of the crap on. Bring back an enjoyable Thursday night.

Asa A. Gregory Fri, Jan 20, 2006 at 12:34 AM EST

I think it's INSANE that NBC didn't include Joey in the comedy block lineup of Thursday. What would have been wrong with Will & Grace at 8, Joey at 8:30, My Name Is Earl at 9 and The Office at 9:30??? Why do you have to throw in an UNTESTED NEW SHOW in MUST SEE TV??? Doesn't NBC OWE IT to MATT LeBLANC and the spirit of FRIENDS to keep JOEY on the air??? I think it just SUCKS! Joey is the ONLY comedy show I look forward to each week. I tape it if I can't watch it's original broadcast.

I personally think JOEY was JUST getting good! If NBC had cancelled CHEERS when it had poor ratings before COSBY SHOW came along to rescue its ratings, just THINK about how much revenue NBC would have lost!!! I think NBC needs to fire whoever is in charge of programming and hire me, because they obviously HAVEN'T a clue if they have cancelled JOEY!!! BRING JOEY BACK!!!

James Gartland Thu, Jan 19, 2006 at 10:27 PM EST

Joey was the best show on tv and now you take it off, what is wrong with this country, all I see is replacing good shows with bad. nbc your ratings are going to fall like a leaded balloon. all the shows that make you laugh have a good plot and good characters, always seems to get cut like ED, AMERICAN DREAMS, JOEY, just to mention a few. Get your act together and get rid of office, my name is earl,4 kings, and bring joey BACK, he was just getting better than friends, and he is way better than office. thank you for your time.

It is a sad day in TV when an underappereciated show like Joey is canceled. Office suck, My name is Earl is some of the most brutal writing ever done and four kings might have been better named Four Queens, I also have nothing good to say about Will and Grace. Somewhere out there some one recieved some good money to let Joey go...Bring Joey back! Bring Joey Back! Bring Joey Back!

kevin maull Thu, Jan 19, 2006 at 04:33 PM EST

Joey may not be as funny as friends, but it sure tops the office, my name is earl, and will and grace! If NBC thinks their new thursday lineup is the best they can come up with, then they surely are in trouble. ER is now the only quality program NBC has to offer and the last couple of years it's been getting worse!!!

Robert Wed, Jan 18, 2006 at 09:46 PM EST

What a bummer! Joey was a funny good humored show that my wife and I thought was alot better than most others. BRING IT BACK!

Ellen Tue, Jan 17, 2006 at 10:25 PM EST

I can't believe you have taken off JOEY! What a huge mistake! First of all, Will and Grace are so over and Not funny and the OFFICE is lame and really reaching for
comedy. And My Name is Earl makes me want to hurl...
It's not only not funny but too hard to figure out what is going on when and putting those all on on the same night is just too weird. Actually, I've gone back to ABC on Thursdays because you took off Joey and I used to watch it all night just so I wouldn't miss it....I even gave up Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. You made a big mistake! I loved Joey so much! I'm so bummed!

Walter Mon, Jan 16, 2006 at 11:15 PM EST

Put Joey back on in the "Office slot". Drop the "Office" as it is quite lame.

Lisa Sat, Jan 14, 2006 at 11:31 AM EST

CANCEL JOEY! They gave the wrong character on friends a spinoff. Its stupid and not funny. Matt LeBlanc is not a good actor. The only bright light on the show is Jennifer Coolidge. NBC needs to can of all there comedies, they suck! (not including Will & Grace since its there last season)

Karen Bush Thu, Jan 12, 2006 at 07:55 PM EST

I have to say I loved the show Joey. It was very funny and I love the characters together. Some of you people have to let it go and accept that Friends is over and not coming back. Move on, Joey is a new program and I love it and don't think it should be cancelled. It will be an injustice to tv if the show is cancelled. Please, I mean if you make me watch Debra Messing on Will and Grace, now that is torture.

Deb Thu, Jan 12, 2006 at 05:47 PM EST

The characters are too stiff. They don't fit together at all like the Friends characters did. They're trying too hard to make us believe and it just doesn't work. Drea (Gina) does not work as the sister. She's not likeable. The relationship Joey's developing with Andrea (Alex) isn't bad but it also doesn't work (altho I like the way she's been revamped for season 2). The best thing about Joey is Jennifer Coolidge - a fine actress and perfect for this role. As much as I love Friends (maybe their biggest fan?), I think a better spin off would be one about Bobbie's life as an agent and all the crazy people she meets/represents. The 'guy who eats paper' from Friends (Estelle's funeral) in his 2 minutes of fame was funnier than the rest of the Joey cast put together. So sad. I wanted it to work more than anyone.

Kristina Wed, Jan 11, 2006 at 01:24 AM EST

I don't know if anyone mentioned this before me because I didn't read all the entries....But, maybe they should just move Joey back to New York, that way they could incorporate the old "Friend's" cast here and there and make the show more believable. The show would still be based on Joey but he would still near Monica, Chandler, Phobe, Rachel, and Ross who would drop in once in a while. God I miss Friends!! :(

Aaron Sun, Jan 8, 2006 at 12:19 AM EST

i think NBC needs to bring a friend or two back for an episode. I can see them waiting until Joey became its own show, but in the real world wouldn't you visit your friends that you have spent 10 years of your life with? wouldn't you talk about them. It seems like joey forgot about them. Also, joey isn't the best show, but i would continue to watch it just because i loved friends so much.

Karen and Mike Thu, Jan 5, 2006 at 07:12 PM EST

Joey needs to get rid of his current "sister". She doesn't fit the bill. They need to get the one that played his sister on "Friends" that was pregnant. I think she would fit much better and provide a better flow. No offense to the current sister; but, she doesn't mix like all the other characters do.

T Thu, Jan 5, 2006 at 03:07 PM EST

PLEASE take the Office off the air and put back Joey on Thursday nights at 8:30 instead.

Lonna Thu, Jan 5, 2006 at 02:53 AM EST

i can't believe nbc changed the thursday night line-up! i was so sad to see joey wasn't on and figured they moved it to another night, but to no avail??? get some of the other "friends" to drop by, maybe that'll help pick up the ratings...anything? but c'mon you can't take it away with the cliff hanger of alex kissing the other guy - at least let joey find love like the other friends all did. then at least all the die hard "friends" fans can put joey to rest, without feeling cheated of a finale?

MARC Mon, Jan 2, 2006 at 10:13 PM EST

JOEY SHOULD NOT BE CANCELED PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maggie Thu, Dec 29, 2005 at 10:15 PM EST

I think that joey is awesome! i love to watch it, i think that it is an excellent spin off of friends! please dont take it off the air, i also think that you should swap the time slots of will & Grace/ joey, and the office completely sucks it is awful! please reconsider this..

Paige Thu, Dec 29, 2005 at 06:55 PM EST

I think Joey has room to move. Please don't cancel it!! My husband will be devastated. I am a Friends Fan through and through (I am talking never missed a show the entire 10 seasons AND have every season on DVD AND cried for 2 weeks BEFORE the final episode...sad, I know!) and my husband really latched on to Joey before the sitcom came out. I think we need to keep it on because, frankly, I am SICK of REALITY TV!! Keep the SITCOM alive!!! Plus, Joey is precious and funny and we crack up every Thursday when we watch it. It's good, just needs a little tweaking.

billy Thu, Dec 8, 2005 at 05:19 PM EST

Joey is awesome but it needs to have Monica and Chanler and their twins in the show. This show would get a whole lot more viewers and it would be a better show. Maybe you could even get the whole gang back together, but that may be a stretch. the main thing it needs is Monica and Chanler back. Joey is an AWESOME SHOW and NBC PLEASE DON'T CANCEL IT.

Jane Wed, Dec 7, 2005 at 11:36 AM EST

People who think the Office deserves to be cancelled deserve dreck like Joey.

The Office is the best show on TV.

Tracy Tue, Dec 6, 2005 at 09:56 AM EST

Joey blows. Earl Rocks! Can we move on from the whole mistake of friends and spinoffs and see what is fresh and new out there? nobody cares about Joey anymore. Earl is where it's at! you dig?

rodrod Fri, Dec 2, 2005 at 09:02 AM EST

I think that Joey is a disgrace to all sitcom television. He just isn't that funny people... NBC just wanted to try to give viewers a taste of what they were missing once friends went off the air. Personally, I thought that Friends was a horrible show with very uninteresting storylines and terrible actors, LeBlanc being one of the worst. His cheesy lines that minic someone with severe mental retardation make me sick. NBC should kick Joey in the nuts like he deserves and send him packing.

JoeyFan Sat, Nov 26, 2005 at 02:22 PM EST

Joey is easily the best comedy on Thursday on NBC. People have not given this show a chance. Season 1 started out good, but season 2 made such a HUGE comeback and is even BETTER than season 1. They have developed the characters more, gave everybody a storyline, introduced Zach - adds a great character to the show and he has hilarious jokes. People have to realize of course 1/6 people from a full cast ensemble from friends isn't going to be AS strong but is making the same effort and probably even more hard work into the show. I do have to say NBC is doing a poor job of not putting up promos for this show. It's just not getting the attention it needs. Will and Grace follows Joey at 830, and IMO is the WEAKEST show. It did not deserve 7 emmy noms, and thank goodness its going off the air. Then, you could put My name is Earl or some other sitcom right AFTER joey. Joey deserves more credit because Matt LeBlanc, Drea, Andrea, Michael, Jennifer, Miguel, etc. are doing a FANTASTIC job. Give Joey some credit and watch the show!

SJ Fri, Nov 25, 2005 at 09:48 PM EST

Joey is a great funny show.I don't get why people critize is as they do.I don't think people give it much of a chance because they except it to be Friends.Joey is Joey wheter on Friends or Joey he is the same funny entertaining character.

Christine Thu, Nov 24, 2005 at 09:41 PM EST

Personally...I love the show Joey. Yeah it doesnt compare to Friends but as a hardcore fan of it I must watch the spin off. I think that some episodes are a little weak than others but its a great show and I think that as the plots and relationships thicken a little more, it will begin to progress to a great show like Friends did. I really think that they should keep it on the air because come on its number 3 in its time slot. If it was bombing it wouldnt even make the top ten right? so PLEASE NBC keep it going!

Kristy Fri, Nov 11, 2005 at 11:36 AM EST

They should cancel Joey and make a Monica & Chandler sitcom instead. It would've been a better show.

dan Fri, Nov 11, 2005 at 10:53 AM EST

you would think after 10 years of Friends , they would be able to make a more fluid and believable sit com, than Joey! Its almost too hard too watch, the dialogue is stiff and not funny.Put it out of it's misery.

jordan Fri, Nov 11, 2005 at 08:42 AM EST

I used to to watch Joey last season. Now I watch Everybody Hates Chris, its much funnier. Now cmon NBC knows it needs to go back to must see tv, its been working even since The Cosby Show premiered in 1984. Cancel Joey, Stick Will and Grace at 8, Earl at 8:30, Scrubs at 9:30 and a new comedy at 9. As for The Office, love that show, but they need to move it from Tuesdays at 9:30 before American Idol comes back. Did you see all the comedies coming on in 06, NBC should have a Tuesday comedy block with Office leading off. Who knows it might be the next NBC Tuesday main stay comedy like how Fraiser was.

andy Fri, Nov 11, 2005 at 07:10 AM EST

They should have more of Joey at "work", more situations with Howard and a complete lack of any kind of situation with Zach, who is arguably the most annoying sitcom character ever.
The Joey-Alex situations are just horrible.

Katie Fri, Nov 11, 2005 at 12:18 AM EST

I would cancel Joey, and if I were at NBC I would fight tooth and nail to acquire Arrested Development from Fox since Fox appears close to cancelling it. They could block it with The Office, My Name is Earl and Scrubs and finally promote the hell out of the four best sitcoms on tv.

Chad Thu, Nov 10, 2005 at 08:07 PM EST

I think that Joey is better than ever! Last week's show was one of the funniest I have seen of that show. They need to make Joey a little like he was on Friends. I know he is "matured and moved away" but it he doesn't seem to be the stupid, loveable Joey that America fell in love with. Move Scrubs and Earl and Will & Grace and turn it back into Must See TV. Give Joey a break, although it may not be great, has anyone watched Desperate Housewives' lately. Give it time, and it will mature like a fine wine!

Jerry Thu, Nov 10, 2005 at 02:48 PM EST

Okay NBC, here's the plan: bump the tired The Apprentice and the fading Joey to Tuesdays; this will free up the Thursday at 9 slot for Earl. Use Will & Grace to lead off the night at 8:00.... then, slot your most promising new sitcom (Max Mutchnick's Four Kings, maybe?) in the Will / Earl hammock... and then promote the hell out of it. Finally, get Scrubs out of those hiatus mothballs and into the Earl lead-out slot at 9:30.

Jason Strong Thu, Nov 10, 2005 at 02:34 PM EST

My Name is Earl, The Office, and Scrubs all need to be on the schedule. Will & Grace needs to end, and soon. Joey may be unfixable, but I don't care if they make it part of the comedy block I will probably watch. The main problem right now is they have one too many comedies to make their schedule work...

John Hewitt Thu, Nov 10, 2005 at 02:29 PM EST

What Joey needs is a more subversive spirit. Its a shame that the idea of pretending to have a reality show was already done by a 'friend' because it would have worked great with Joey. Still, how about putting him in more absurd situations. I don't mean slapstick. I'm thinking that Joey runs for Governor or Joey becomes the spokesperson for mensa. It would be much more fun if the people in L.A. never actually realized Joey was dumb as a box of rocks. After all, it is L.A.

Jimbo Thu, Nov 10, 2005 at 02:02 PM EST

Like the comedy block suggestion, but it would be much stronger if you replaced "Joey" with "The Office", and replaced "Will & Grace" with a half-hour block of commercials or reruns of "Saved By The Bell"
