But obviously, it’s the Artists category we flipped to first. 'Lost' countdown, a week ahead: Who will take Jacob's job? Plus: Monkeys!
Image Credit: Mario Perez/ABCThere’s an episode of Lost on ABC tonight, but I won’t be watching it. Why? Because I hate Lost. I just decided this. It’s stupid and silly and irritatingly pretentious with its pseudo intellectualism and shallow spirituality and allegedly cutting-edge extrapolation of theoretical physics that those nerdy crackheads at Wired love to slobber on about, and if one more mouth-breathing geek asks me “What would you see in your flash-forward?”, I’m going to punch them… wait… oh. Oh! Sorry about that! I got my TV shows messed up there for a second. Lost! I love Lost! I’m obsessed with Lost! I write crazy theories about Lost! I write epic and incoherent recaps about Lost! But not tonight. The show is taking a breather this week in advance of its final four episodes in May, so tonight, we get a repeat of “Ab Aeterno,” the instant-classic that gave us the backstory of Richard Alpert and Jacob’s metaphor of The Island as a cork on a bottle keeping a toxic brew of evil from sloshing out into the world. If you haven’t seen the episode, then by jove, make sure you make time to watch it tonight, because it’s massively important, and there is absolutely no other way to see it anytime sooner or at any other point in the future. 'Lost': What should the actors do next?
Image Credit: Mario Perez/ABCYou may not want to think about Lost ending, but you must. The actors sure are. Take Daniel Dae Kim. After shooting the Hawaii Five-O remake pilot opposite Alex O’Loughlin, he’s set to star in the feature film Deathgames, with Samuel L. Jackson and Twilight‘s Kellan Lutz. According to the Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision blog, he’ll play a prisoner, like Lutz, forced by a big bad (Jackson) to fight in a modern gladiator arena to entertain the online masses. His character is described as “an artist who happens to be a master of kendo (samurai-style sword fighting), a skill that comes in handy when he competes for his life and his wife’s.” It sounds a little Gymkata-y, but who wouldn’t want to costar in a film with Jackson playing an evil mastermind. The scenery will be chewed, and it will be delicious! Plus, he gets to kick a little ass, show his emotional side, and only wait two hours to know how the story ends. Well done, I say.
What would you like to see the stars of Lost do next? Get creative. Write them a role in an existing show (like how about Jorge Garcia doing a guest arc on The Big Bang Theory next season as some kind of nemesis for Sheldon?), or put them in a film that’s been announced but has yet to be cast…. 'Lost' countdown: Willy Wonka, U2, and the return of Jack vs. Locke!
Image Credit: Mario Perez/ABCLast week’s episode of Lost had several moments that got us all buzzing around the virtual water cooler. Desmond hitting John Locke with his car in the Sideways world. The Monster throwing Desmond down a well in the Island world. And then, there was the Willy Wonka promo for tonight’s episode. Now that was an evocative and provocative bit of marketing communication! As many readers have pointed out to me, season 6 does seem analogous to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The candidates are golden ticket winners, eligible to win the redemption factory that is The Island from retiring Jacob, but first they must pass various tests of character as well as the temptations of Mr. Slugworth, i.e. the Man In Black. The promo made use of the scene from the 1971 Gene Wilder film in which the eccentric confectioner takes his young would-be successors on a surreal boat ride and recites a creepy tone poem that expresses the kids’ intensifying anxiety and discombobulation as they journey deeper into a world where the rules of order and laws of reason are becoming increasingly unclear if not irrelevant. PopWatch Confessional: Have you ever been too jealous to enjoy an on-screen relationship?
As all of us House fans read yesterday over on Michael Ausiello‘s blog, executive producer Katie Jacobs is acknowledging that a Thirteen-Chase union could be a possibility in the future. Of course, they’re not confirming anything yet, but I can’t help but angrily eat some office chocolate and mourn this possibility while using Adobe to craft a Thirteen dartboard. Because, in my delusional world, Chase is mine. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m lucky enough to have a boyfriend who bears a resemblance to Jesse Spencer (yes, I’m bragging, sorry), which makes me brim with jealousy whenever I see Chase romancing any of his coworkers. I’m even pretty sure that back when Cameron was hooking up with Chase, I actually screamed at my television, “Cameron, back off my man!” before realizing I was talking about fictional people who exist inside a television set that does not respond to my angry comments.
Of course, since the person I’m currently dating looks like Chase, my jealousy does seem a teensy, leeettle big logical, right? But what if I told you I have felt the same jealousy towards people I’ve never met who do not look remotely like anyone I’ve dated? I’m crazy, right? I totally am. Because, as a child, I couldn’t bear to watch the Home Improvement episodes featuring Randy’s girlfriend Michelle, because did she ever defend JTT’s looks in the great sixth grade debate of who’s hotter: JTT or Taylor Hanson? I was the one college girl who didn’t tune into Newlyweds because it would make me feel the sting of knowing my 13-year-old crush, Nick Lachey, had already found true love with someone else who thought 98 Degrees and Rising was a totally catchy album with awesome spoken word verses. (For the time being, at least.) And then there were those kinky, difficult-to-watch cage scenes involving Lost‘s Sawyer, who just didn’t deserve that Kate, because he belonged to this Kate. At least, in my Davidoff Cool Water-scented dreams. (I will, however, let his relationship with Juliet slide. I’ve hit the seventh stage of acceptance when it comes to that hook-up.)
What about you, PopWatchers? Have you ever found yourself too jealous to enjoy an on-screen relationship? (Come on, Office fans. You know that you wanted to throw up in that this-is-so-not-fair kind of way after watching the Jim-Pam kiss on Casino Night.) Please tell me I am not alone here. For my psychological well-being.

'Lost' Exclusive: Team Darlton on remaining mysteries, post-finale 'radio silence'

For some fans, the podcast is an important part of their Lost experience. For other fans, such as myself, the podcast is an invitation to crash a computer. Seriously: for some reason, my technology routinely fails me when it comes to listening to the podcast. I am beginning to suspect sinister forces at work in the world, denying me access to the secret knowledge that Damon and Carlton are sharing with the world. It’s true, isn’t it? Tell me!

TV series finales: Do your favorite characters need to hook up for you to feel satisfied?

Daniel?), on last night’s Ugly Betty series finale (SPOILER ALERT!), we watched our bespeckled heroine end up with…no one. Kind of. Maybe. I think. Okay, here’s what we know: Daniel and Betty were going to go out for dinner in London. That’s it. No kiss, no lingering stare. (Well, maybe a little one courtesy of the former Mode editor.) If you ask me, the ending was pretty genius: Supporters of the Daniel-Betty union will choose to believe the duo were going on a date, while Daniel-Betty haters will simply believe the pair has an extremely co-dependent friendship.

'Lost' countdown: Everybody loves Hurley! PLUS: George Clooney, Carl Sagan, and Pink Floyd explain 'Lost'

The title is a reversal on Hurley’s season 2 episode “Everybody Hates Hugo;” you can refresh your memory of the story by reading the synopsis at Lostpedia, or EW.com’s recap of the episode, which I think you’ll find to be an informative, insightful, and entertaining narrative.
