Snap judgment of Kim Kardashian's wedding dress: Classic with a dash of crazy

If you couldn’t tell by the recent Keeping Up With the Kardashian marathons and a media circus that nearly rivaled the April nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Kim Kardashian got hitched in Santa Barbara, Calif., yesterday, and though official photos from the event are being kept mostly under wraps, some images have been released. (Us attempted to get first dibs with this photo, in which Kim and step-dad Bruce Jenner resemble two snowmen.)

In this gallery are images of the $20,000 cake and bridesmaids dressed in white — a move she totally stole from Middleton — and, of course, the dress! (See left!) Based on the details so conveniently leaked into the press, we knew the reality star/mogul/model/ubiquitous spokesperson would don a gown by family friend Vera Wang, who designed sister Khloe’s dress in 2009. But what would it look like? READ FULL STORY »

'Teen Mom' season 3 premiere: Did you watch?

teen_mom_farrah

Last night, Farrah, Maci, Catelynn, and Amber returned for another season of Teen Mom, the show that made them (semi-)household names — and consistent tabloid fodder. And clearly the notoriety has infiltrated the lives of some more than others. READ FULL STORY »

What will Bella's Carolina Herrera wedding dress look like?

twilight

If you’re a Twi-hard, then you understand that every ounce of Breaking Dawn news is like lion to a lamb. And in the latest announcement (via Twilight‘s official Twitter page), Summit Entertainment revealed that Bella’s wedding dress has been designed by couture queen Carolina Herrera. We saw mere glimpses of the white dress in the recently released trailer — lace! a strapless cut! — so we took a look at Herrera’s previous bridal creations to see what design elements Bella could wear come Nov. 18. MTV Movie Awards 2011: Tell us what you think!

MTV-Movie-Awards-Sudeikis

The MTV Movie Awards air tonight, and to keep track of all the popcorn trophy shenanigans MTV is famous for (see: Bruno-Eminem fiasco of 2009), check in here when the show kicks off at 9 p.m. ET for a recap on all the festivities. Reese! Rob Pattinson! Potter! Kids, we have a big night ahead of us. (This post is written in real time; refresh for updates.)

Host Jason Sudeikis opened the show in typical MTV fashion—with a good ol’ movie spoof. This time around, Jason, and Hollywood hotties like Taylor Lautner and Eva Mendes joined forces for their own spin on The Hangover, weaving in clips from The Social Network, 127 Hours and the girl-on-girl scene from Black Swan. Oh, MTV. Some things never change.

For his opening monologue, Sudeikis broke out with riffs on Arnold Schwarzenegger, MTV programming and Twilight. “My heart says Jacob but my wiener says Edward. My balls are indifferent.” Brownie points for mentioning the weird, wacky and utterly disgusting film Human Centipede. “How did Human Centipede not get nominated for Best Kiss?”

A few awards down the line—and one flawless Ryan Gosling later—Jim Carrey took to the stage in a green screen suit to introduce the Foo Fighters, who rocked the crowd, and in particular, Emma Watson and a super glittery Brooklyn Decker, who both clapped and swayed their way through the set. The new arbiters of rock ‘n’ roll?

And then…Bieber alert! The follicilly gifted pop star surprised presenters Aziz Ansari, Danny McBride and Nick Swardson along with, ya know, thousands of screaming girls, by appearing on stage to accept an award for best jaw-dropping moment. Seriously, would the Biebs miss an opportunity to wear blazers and high-tops?

In the second Twilight moment of the night (the first being Pattinson’s Best Actor win), Pattinson, Xavier Samuel and Bryce Dallas Howard took home the popcorn trophy for Best Fight and managed to beat the gravity-defying brawl scene in Inception. Adding salt to the wound, Pattinson accepted his trophy, saying “I won!” only to follow by telling the expectant Howard, “I ripped your head off, and now you’re pregnant!” Even Kristen Stewart thought that one was awkward.

But this being the MTV generation, those weren’t the only Twilight moments. Pattinson and Stewart of course won for Best Kiss, making all those Twi-Hards, which apparently includes Selena Gomez, positively giddy with delight hoping the camera-shy real-life couple would seal the deal on stage for millions to see. Shocker! They didn’t. Instead, Pattinson ran off stage to give a (faux?) smooch to category loser Taylor Lautner. Not sure how Team Edward and Team Jacob are going to take that one.

As a side note, I’m totally loving these Google Chrome commercials, and the Lady Gaga one playing during the breaks is no exception. How does ad for a search engine manage to make me well up with tears?

Awkward Pattinson moment #2 came so quickly whilst honoring Witherspoon with this year’s Generation Award.” It’s probably best to just erase the whole mess from your memory, but to recap, Pattinson rehashed playing Witherspoon’s son in Vanity Fair—the scene later got cut—and then said he “f—–” her in Water for Elephants. He actually messed up the punchline, which Witherspoon later corrected with much better timing when she took to the stage, and in more Reese-related awesomeness, she stuck it to MTV with some advice for young girls, who think scandal is the route to success. “It’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show.”

To round out Twilight‘s utter (and expected) domination, Stewart picked up a Best Female Performance award, and, to match her beau, gave us an equally awkward acceptance speech, proclaiming to fellow nominee Natalie Portman that the popcorn was hers. I’m sure Nat is just fine with her Oscar, thanks.

And the show’s oddest pairing award goes to the stars of Monte Carlo—Gomez, Katie Cassidy and Leighton Meester—who introduced Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz. I love hearing Gomez talk about a rapper’s “flow.”

Finally, Twilight takes home Best Movie, confirming MTV’s position as the Jersey Shore-pregnant teen-Twilight network. Also, Gary Busey in a bubble!

What did you guys think of the ceremony? Did the winners pan out the way you expected? How about Sudeikis in his first-time hosting gig? And what was with that Fern Gully-themed set?

Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson launch tween fashion line: See the clothes

jessica_simpson_clothing_line

Yesterday came news that pop star-turned-billion dollar designer Jessica Simpson and younger sister Ashlee would branch out with a tween collection, and today, we get a sneak peak of the products — faux fur, printed leggings and all — which will be available at 400 retailers, including Macy’s and Lord Taylor, this fall.

Simpson’s designing style has always been trendy without turning customers into crazy-patterns lady. But with this tween line, consisting of sportswear and jeans geared towards girls sized 7 through 16, the line looks more Rachel Zoe than Jessica Simpson, who has already made quite a name — and billion dollar empire – for herself. That credit (or blame?) should probably go to sister Ashlee, who, unlike her big sis, is known for more grungy, vintage-inspired ensembles.

What do you guys think of the looks? Will you be buying the clothes for the little lady in your life?

Gail Simmons blogs the 'Top Chef: All-Stars' season finale

Gail-Simmons As told to Archana Ram.

I think we accomplished exactly what we set out to do this season. We brought back 18 of the most talented chefs on the show who did not win to get them back in the kitchen to see how they did, but also we stretched the show even further — took the challenges further, made things more complicated, exciting and delicious. I’m really amazed, looking back, at how much great food there was, how much I learned about the chefs, and how much I learned about food. I think every chef on this season has a lot to be proud of. We made them work for it, that’s for sure. READ FULL STORY »

Gail Simmons blogs 'Top Chef: All-Stars' episode 15

Gail-Simmons As told to Archana Ram.

Antonia, Richard and Mike had stayed consistent and strong throughout the season. Each of them had won a ton of challenges and kept moving. Each of them individually wowed us. It never plays out quite how you think, but I was really glad they were the final three.

The whole Quickfire was absurd. We knew it was absurd. We just kept piling it on to see how they’d react. They all did really well considering all the twists they were given. They all delivered edible food, which I think is a pretty big accomplishment at that stage. Mike had one pot and nothing else. You never how someone else will react to the challenge you give them, and they also never knew there would be a second twist. Cooking with one pot is a challenge but a realistic one. But cooking with one hand behind your back or tied to someone else isn’t. Simple challenges can be the hardest, and I think it’s because they over-prepare. They’re not able to stand back and simplify. They get caught up in trying to do too much. But in this case, the three of them are actually really good at restraint. READ FULL STORY »

Gail Simmons blogs 'Top Chef: All-Stars': Episode 14

Gail-Simmons As told to Archana Ram.

For the Quickfire, I actually think Antonia and Tiffany had a better plan than Richard and Mike gave them credit for. Padma never told them they had to make something incredibly complicated. Obviously, there needs to be some thought and cooking, but they just wanted it to taste good. But both teams were smart to cook in large batches. Everything was the same, and that’s really important. Otherwise, you risk consistency.

Richard and Mike’s dish was more complex in terms of the cooking process. They needed to cook the vegetables and meat, which perhaps takes a little more finesse. On the other hand, Tiffany and Antonia’s dish had several more plating components. Richard and Mike, all they had to do once the sauce was made, was make the pasta, toss it all together and dump a spoonful onto the plate. There was no garnish, plating or presentation. Tiffany and Antonia, as much as theirs might’ve been a simpler plate from a cooking standpoint, it was a more complicated plate from a presentation standpoint. They had a dressing, a salad, which involved prepping the vegetables, and the meat placed on top. That took time and operational skill. I think they did a good job. I can see why they won. It was appealing as a small plate and a smart way to go about the challenge. READ FULL STORY »
