On the scene: An evening with the '30 Rock' writers

What the what?! Sadly, 30 Rock ended its seven-season run in January. But that doesn’t mean we’re ready to stop talking about the beloved Tina Fey comedy. Thankfully, the Paley Center agrees. Last night, Fey, Robert Carlock (above), Colleen McGuinness, Josh Siegal, and Dylan Morgan were all on hand in NYC for the panel “Hey Dummies…An Evening with the 30 Rock writers.” I’m sad to report our favorite dummy, Dennis Duffy, was not there. But the good news is the writers did share some fun tidbits about their time working on the show. '30 Rock' is over: Discuss the series finale!

“Dark times are these.” You’re right, Liz Lemon. Dark times, indeed. We’ve finally come to the end of this seven-season journey. Liz Lemon & Co. have said their final goodbyes. 30 Rock will live on in syndication, our hearts, and frequent night cheese tributes. So let’s recap how it all went down:

In “Hogcock,” part 1 of the finale, Liz was trying to acclimate to her new role as a stay-at-home mom. Jack tried to convince Lemon that she would go crazy without an outlet, but she was sure she could make it work. Further complicating matters, Liz started an all-out message board war with an anonymous Internet nemesis on the website, GothamMoms.com. As it turned out, her nemesis was her own husband, Criss, who was equally struggling in his new role as a working dad. So they decide to switch: Criss would stay at home, and Liz would pitch a new show to Kenneth. “John Hardly. He loves his family, but he hates the rat race. He’s: Hardly Working.” Kenneth turned her down, and instead gave her one last chance for TGS to make America say, ‘What? Why?’” A stipulation in Tracy’s contract required that he appear in at least 150 episodes of TGS, or the network would owe him $30 million. They’d only done 149, so Kenneth insisted that Liz come back and do one more show. READ FULL STORY »

'30 Rock': Willy Wonka and the NBC factory

30 Rock is going out with a bang. Or a least with a wonderful tribute to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. In an effort to find his successor, Jack reinstated Kenneth the page to give a special VIP tour to the five final candidates for the position. The contenders (conveniently named Charlie, Veruca, Mike, Augustus, and Violet) were led to believe the tour was just a formality, but it was really the last part of the interview. '30 Rock': Jack and Liz take Florida!

It’s the final countdown! In “Florida,” Jack was still riding the high of defeating Kaylie Hooper to claim his rightful spot as Kabletown CEO. But since the promotion wasn’t official just yet, he was tying up some loose ends. That included a trip to Florida to take care of his mother’s estate. He invited Liz to accompany him, and she agreed in an effort to be more spontaneous. But the mentor/mentee got quite a shock when they discovered that Colleen’s live-in nurse, Martha, was much more than a nurse. At first, Jack believed his mother had been scammed. But twist! Mrs. Silly Colleen had really taken a female lover, and just failed to tell Jack.  READ FULL STORY »

The end is nigh, nerds! As a part of her lifelong quest to have it all, Liz started fertility treatments. But of course the hormones from the injections made her extra crazy and forced Lemon to reconsider her options: She could go it the old-fashioned way, wait at least another four years to adopt a newborn, or adopt an older child. (An older kid? Gross!) Ultimately, with some unlikely help from Tracy, she decided that maybe she could handle an older child. Liz Lemon tied the knot last week proving there’s hope for everyone in this strange world. So will she get pregnant with little Rufus T. Barleysheath before the series finale? Only time will tell. Until then, Lemon can bask in the glory of her 80 Under 80 award. While riding her marriage high, Ms. Elizabeth Lemon — she’s keeping her name — found out she’d been named one of the women in entertainment who aren’t Betty White. There’s hope for us all! Elizabeth Lemon and Criss Chros finally tied the knot. If you didn’t even know they were engaged, don’t worry. The whole thing—engagement to “I Do’s”—happened in the course of “Mazel Tov, Dummies!” Here’s how it all went down: Liz and Criss ran into mayhem Dennis Duffy and discovered that he was married. (Who would marry Dennis? Megan, maiden name Duffy—hopefully no relation. That’s who.) Dennis also happened to have an adopted son named Black Dennis. And that was just too much for Liz to take. '30 Rock': Aunt Phatso vs. Jack Donaghy

Woah! Before we get into tonight’s episode, let’s talk about that invitation to Liz Lemon’s wedding in two weeks! Yup, it looks like Elizabeth Miervaldis Lemon will wed Criss later this month. Discuss! But Lemon had more important things to worry about in “Aunt Phatso vs. Jack Donaghy.” See: her aching bunions. (Actually, don’t see it. It’s probably gross.) Her podiatrist said the only possibly explanation was that one of her ancestors mated with a dinosaur. Naturally. Anyway, Lemon needed quadruple bunion surgery, a procedure that would require her to stay off her feet for three weeks. Liz knew she couldn’t accomplish that working with the less-than-helpful TGS staffers.

'30 Rock': Unwindulax because Jenna's picking the next president!

The final season of 30 Rock is certainly taking advantage of the presidential election. I mean, if it weren’t for the current political landscape, we would live in a world without Baseball Mitt Romney and Barack Ollama! With the election just around the corner, Jack was doing all he could to raise money for his Republican Super PAC, Americans for an American America. Since his lady friend was unable to attend his fundraiser, Jack convinced Lemon to go with him as his chum. But let’s be honest, he didn’t have to do much convincing once she learned there would be shrimp there.
