To celebrate Cinco de Mayo — a holiday celebrated by Mexican Americans to commemorate a small Mexican militia unexpectedly defeating the French army in the Battle of Puebla in 1862 — we’re sharing five fun theme songs given a Mariachi makeover. Doubting it can be done? Click below!

1. The “Gerudo Valley” theme song from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Geek weddings are the stuff viral videos are made of, and this video of a Mariachi band playing the “Gerudo Valley” theme song from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time soundtrack is no exception.”My friend, a huge fan of Legend of Zelda, got married this weekend,” wrote YouTube user Christian Martinez. “His wife had a little surprise for him.”

Check out the groom’s delighted face once he realizes that his favorite video game theme song is being played in full-out, Mariachi-style.

2. The Pokémon theme song

What kid growing up in the ’90s didn’t obsess over Pokémon? Whether you played the Nintendo video game, watched the cartoon, or waited hours at your local theater to score tickets to the midnight premiere of the feature length film, one thing’s for sure: pretty much everyone knows the theme song. Which of course, makes this Mariachi-meets-electronica riff on the Japanese cartoon theme pretty much mind-blowing.

3. Disney’s “It’s A Small World”

There’s very little that Disney hasn’t made its own — and that extends to Mariachi music, with this rendition of the Disney classic “It’s A Small World” put together for the attraction’s 50th anniversary. Check out the five piece Mariachi band – notice how smiley they are?

4. “Theme of Laura” from Silent Hill 2

Mariachi – a type of Mexican folk music that’s influenced by European musical styles, including the polka – is a favorite on both sides of the border, and as it turns out, a favorite genre of Japanese video game soundtrack composer Akira Yamaoka. Yes, really. Check out his performance of the “Theme of Laura” tune from the Silent Hill 2 video game with a full Mariachi orchestra.

5. Battlefield

It turns out YouTube is a goldmine for totally out-there Mariachi makeovers of video game theme songs — but this acoustic Mariachi cover of the Battlefield theme song might be one of the best out there. It’s arranged and performed by guitarist Benedikt Mendzigal. Take note: If you’re planning a geeky game wedding (see video #1), he might just be available.
