Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence aren’t feuding. Just ask Jessica Chastain.
The actress, whose nervy performance in Zero Dark Thirty earned her an Oscar nomination, took to Facebook to dispel rumors that she “hated” her similarly nominated, similarly nervy colleague.
Chastain wrote: “Why do we support the myth that women are competitive and cannot get along? I think all of the actresses recognized this year have given incredible performances.”
She went on: “Please don’t allow the media to perpetuate the myth that women aren’t supportive of each other. Everytime [sic] an actress is celebrated for her great work, I cheer.”
The rumor originated on ShowbizSpy with the headline, “Jessica Chastain Hates Jennifer Lawrence?” and claimed that Chastain was upset by the fact that Lawrence kept winning awards and that the Silver Linings Playbook actress made a joke at her expense when she hosted SNL.
Both claims, as per Chastain’s Facebook statement, are bogus: “I’ve done two photo shoots with Jennifer Lawrence over the years and have found her to be utterly charming and a great talent.”
This comes as a relief for fans of good film work and haters of badly sourced gossip stories. Meanwhile, our dreams of a Jessica-and-Jennifer collaboration — J&J’s Jams? Jen and Jess’ 24/7 Juice Factory? — remain intact.
