Taylor Swift dishes about her love life with Katie Couric

Breakup queen Taylor Swift discussed her own love story today on Katie. The interview, which was taped this Monday before her alleged breakup with Conor Kennedy, acted as a pseudo therapy session, with Katie Couric serving as psychiatrist (Couric even joked about being Lorraine Bracco from The Sopranos).

Wearing her best “awww, shucks, you’re here for me?” face and patterned, hemline dress, the songstress explained that she’s oblivious when it comes to love. “I don’t know how to have a normal relationship because I try to act normal and love from a normal place and live a normal life, but there is sort of an abnormal magnifying glass, like telescope lens, on everything that happens between me and anybody else. So I don’t know how to do that correctly or anything. I don’t really know that much about love, it turns out.” I think her millions of record-buyers would disagree.

Because she’s “blindly optimistic” in relationships and incapable of screaming and throwing tantrums when she’s genuinely upset, she sorts her emotions through song. “The dust settles and I go to my own corner and actually figure out what I thought about [the relationship]. Sometimes I don’t actually know how i feel about it until a write the song.”

The “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer also discussed the ramifications of her hit single. “Did he get the message?” Couric asked. “I haven’t heard from him since. I think I was just insistent enough this time,” Swift responded with the understatement of the year. She also inadvertently confirmed speculation that actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who she briefly dated two years ago, is in fact, the person she’s never ever getting back together with. “I didn’t know that that was a thing that people had figured out,” she said after Couric mentioned that fans made that quantum leap based on the scarf she wore in her music video. (She also wore scarves on her dates with the actor.)

The conversation shifted to another ex-boyfriend she memorialized in song — John Mayer. When Couric quoted Mayer saying he felt “humiliated” by her hit “Dear John” (off of Speak Now), the pop star retorted, “Oh, come on.” She also revealed that some of her exes she writes songs about reach out to her with “really long emails.”

The most endearing part of the interview was Couric’s fangirlism. From referring to Swift as “one of the few things that me and my 16-year-old agree on” to answering fan questions on her behalf, Couric seemed just as happy to interview Swift as the singer pretended to be.
