Ouch. This past week certainly hasn’t been easy for those of us who are a little too unhealthily involved in the lives of television characters. Glee, How I Met Your Mother and Grey’s Anatomy all had major relationship shake-ups, just a few weeks into the fall season. (SPOILER ALERT! for this past week’s episodes ahead). On Monday, after an episode-long tease over who exactly would break up, Barney and Quinn called it quits over on How I Met Your Mother. It was hard to feel too sad about that one, though, not with an ending that had Barney and Robin off on a “sometime in the future” lunch date.
Sunday finalized decisions we knew were coming with regard to Revenge — Daniel and Emily are done, and we now know he’s moved on to Ashley (which, side note, gross. Wasn’t she at one point allegedly Emily’s BFF?). We got a brief bright spot on Tuesday’s New Girl, when Nick and Jess had a heart-to-heart without it being a serious heart-to-heart about their mutual attraction to each other.
Wednesday saw the breakup of the media and President Obama after the first debate, and then Thursday night television happened and it seemed like any and all relationships fell apart. In addition to the blood bath on Glee — in some form, Blaine/Kurt, Finn/Rachel, Will/Emma and Brittany/Santana are all done — we also got a flashback breakup on Grey’s when Mark broke up with his girlfriend before he died.
It wasn’t just romantic relationships, either. Chantal and Claudia won’t be seeing too much of each other on Gallery Girls post-finale, and that’s a tragedy we all suffer. I’m going to be honest. I don’t think my heart can take much more. What else could be in store for us during unofficial break-up week?
There better not be any surprises on Shark Tank tonight.
