Sean Penn had some harsh words at a press event for his Haiti: Carnival in Cannes fundraiser on May 17, TheWrap reports. “The reason we have Haiti fatigue is because there was never a commitment in the first place,” Penn said.  “It’s not only celebrities who went for a day. It’s the whole f—ing world. It’s all of you.”

Penn also called on President Barack Obama to step in once again. “It is time for our formidable and elegant president to stand side by side with the new president of Haiti.”

The two-time Oscar winner was joined by supermodel Petra Nemcova and Oscar winner Paul Haggis, whose own charities – the Happy Hearts Fund and Artists for Peace and Justice, respectively — will benefit from the Armani- and Chopard-sponsored event. Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, Gerard Butler, and David Schwimmer are expected to attend. Haggis called Penn an “honest-to-God hero” for his unflagging commitment to Haiti and his vision to set the impoverished country on the right course.

Penn held another event in support of the Haitian disaster at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, when he was promoting This Must Be the Place. Robert De Niro, Ryan Gosling, Uma Thurman, Jane Fonda, Rosario Dawson, and Harvey Weinstein attended that event, at which Penn was in less ornery spirits. Video for today’s press conference has not yet been released.

A representative for Penn had no further comment.
